1. French Toast
Young (1 year 1 month) · Female · French Bulldog (short coat) · 37 mi from Ithaca

French Toast came to us from Manhatten ACC after being brought in with a painful and horrible ulcer in her eye and ear infections. She was seen by our vet right away and put on medications for both her eye and ear and is doing much, much better and we are pretty hopeful she can keep her eye! We were so worried she would lose it and it’s now looking just so much better.

It honestly blows our minds that Cherry is still waiting for a family to call his own.
From the day he left the shelter, he has been pure joy, big laughs, and total goofball energy. Introducing Amelia — The Miracle Pocket Pitty! Some of you may already know Amelia from our Facebook posts. This little girl came to us in dire straits, having suffered the effects of multiple stab wounds and a severe beating. An infection followed suit. It was touch and go for a while, but Amelia rallied, fought the infection — with the help of medical professionals and dedicated staff — and won the fight. Her many stab wounds have healed, the fur is growing over the scars, and perhaps most importantly her resilient spirit has allowed her to trust in the humans surrounding her and move on from what was a deplorable lot in life. Our dear little friend has emerged completely from her ordeal as the beloved shelter spitfire! She enjoys her playtime and walks and is good on leash except for dog reactivity.

15. Nanook
Senior · Male · Labrador Retriever / Husky / Mixed · 49 mi from Ithaca

From Nanook’s current foster family:Nanook is a 9-year-old husky/shepherd/lab mix VERY deserving of a loving retirement home and comfy couch. He has come into our home from an uncertain past but has proven to be sweet and calm. His eye area is still healing from a previous injury. He walks great on a leash and rides well in a car.We started him in a kennel when we weren't home, but we quickly realized he wasn't going to destroy anything so once he settles in he is safe to be trusted out of a kennel. He is great with his foster brother, they mostly ignore each other. Like a true sibling he just wants equal attention.

He sometimes gets excited when he meets other dogs or takes a minute to warm up. We've seen no food aggression at feeding times. Nanook is very good with our child — gentle and loves to cuddle on her. We have seen no bad triggers with any kind of a person for him. Needs a home that understands husky behavior and noises, such as the-old-man-grumbles and the cute mini-howls when he wants something. Will need long-term medicine for his eye and anal fissures. Takes pills and receives eye drops without any problems. He is a perfect blend of an old man dog with bouts of a happy and playful soul!To set up a meet & greet or ask questions about Nanook, you can contact HumaneCNY at (315) 457-8762 or info@humanecny.org; or you can begin the adoption process for this great dog right now by filling out an application on our website, www.humanecny.org.Contact HumaneCNY if interested in this animal. Adopting a dog in Ithaca
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
