All dogs are located in NY/NJ area All our puppies need puppy play dates/doggy facetime so we recommend homes with other pups or daily interactions to keep them tired out, happy and social.
Facebook: Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (weekly adoption event info posted there) Twitter: zanisff Instagram: zanisfurryfriends
Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies vaxed, and microchipped (not Lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it!) All are in the NY/NJ area but we will adopt out of state to the purrfect home and in some cases, we can arrange transport. Please go to our site https://zanisfurryfriends.org fill out an application
Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application early Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.
Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!

Bodhi miraculously survived a hit-and-run car accident, and through it all, he has remained incredibly sweet and people-oriented. As a result of his injuries, Bodhi needed a tail amputation, but he has healed beautifully and is now in excellent physical shape. His resilience is matched by his joyful, lively personality.

17. Beetle
Young (2 years 10 months) · Male · American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 24 mi from New York City

Meet Beetle!
Beetle is a handsome, 2-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix weighing about 60 lbs, and he is truly one of a kind. He’s neutered, house trained, and an absolute love with people.
Beetle is a big, lovable goofball who has a way of stealing everyone’s heart. He joins his foster family on walks to and from school and has become quite the local celebrity. Families, kids, and even crossing guards have fallen for him—and some people now bring him treats! He loves attention and happily shows off his “paw” and “down” skills for an audience. One person even dubbed him the “Prince of River Edge.”
Read more about Beetle
When he’s calm, Beetle is a total love bug. He is extremely people-oriented, loves being close to his humans, and enjoys soaking up affection. He can also be a hilarious character.
Beetle is making progress with his leash skills. He has shown some reactivity toward other dogs while on walks, but his foster family is working hard with him, and they are seeing improvement. They are practicing “stop,” “sit,” and “look,” teaching Beetle to check in with his people for direction. He is now looking at his foster much more frequently on walks and has even started sitting and looking up for guidance without being asked.
Because Beetle is a strong, 60-lb dog, a home with older children would be best. His adopters should be prepared to continue working with him on leash skills, basic training, and appropriate behavior around other dogs. He has lived with another dog previously, but they were not bonded.
And while Beetle is very much a 60-lb bully-breed dog with a big personality, he doesn’t particularly enjoy getting wet—rain and sprinklers are definitely not his favorite things—and while he tolerates a bath, he wouldn’t exactly call it a spa day.
Beetle is funny, affectionate, smart, and full of personality. He needs a family willing to give him structure, consistency, continued training, and plenty of love. In return, you’ll have a loyal companion who will keep you laughing and make friends wherever he goes.
Beetle’s owner was no longer able to care for him, and he is now looking for the forever home where he can continue to grow, learn, and be the wonderful dog we know he can be.

MEET ANN!
Sweet Ann is an adorable 8-month-old, 35 lb girl who is ready to find her forever family!
Born on February 9, 2026, Ann is still a puppy, and her personality continues to blossom as she settles into her new foster home. After about two weeks with her foster, we're learning even more about this sweet girl!
Ann's affectionate side is really shining through. She loves to give kisses, cuddle up with her people, and sit in your lap. While she enjoys her independence, she also loves being close to the people she trusts.
Read more about Ann
One thing Ann REALLY loves is the company of another young dog! When her brother, Fred, visited this week, the two played continuously in the backyard for about 30 minutes. Ann would do wonderfully in a home with a young canine companion who could be her playmate and help keep her entertained.
Like any puppy, Ann is still learning and growing. She isn't a fan of the crate just yet and tries her hardest to get out, so she'll need patience and positive reinforcement as she learns that her crate can be a safe, comfortable place. She's also in her teething stage, so plenty of appropriate chew toys will be a must!

30. Gracie
Young · Female · Unknown breed / mixed · 8 mi from New York City

Gracie (GA) Needs Someone to See Her Worth When Gracie was rescued, her condition was nothing short of heartbreaking. At just 2 years old, this sweet Doodle girl should have been enjoying life, playing, loved, and cared for. Instead, she was found painfully emaciated, her body telling the story of neglect no dog should ever endure. Her coat was so severely matted that it hid the beautiful dog underneath, while her eyes carried the sadness of a soul that had been forgotten. But through it all, Gracie never stopped being gentle. Despite everything she has suffered, she still looks to people with hope.

Gracie has survived what no dog should have to survive. Now she needs someone willing to help her heal, continue to blossom, and learn what it truly means to be cherished. She doesn't need a perfect family. She just needs a compassionate one. Every rescue dog deserves a second chance, but Gracie's story feels especially urgent. Why adopt an adult dog in New York City
An adult dog's personality is fully formed, so the rescue can tell you how they are with people, other pets and busy households. Many have lived in foster homes and are already house-trained.
Grown dogs need less supervision than puppies and often know the basics, like sitting and walking on a leash, which suits people who work or have young children.
