17. Garlic
Adult · Male · Labrador Retriever / Boxer / Mixed

Birthdate: 04/20/2022Breed: One of a kindWeight: 66.1 lbsCheck out My Video: Rollin’ into happinessMeet Garlic – Your New Best Friend with a Heart of Gold! With a muscular build and a perfectly imperfect off-centered forehead stripe, Garlic is the picture of charm and character. This stoic yet sweet pup has a goofy streak that’ll steal your heart in an instant. He’s the kind of dog who reminds you to slow down and enjoy the little things—like sniffing every flower on your walk or soaking up the sun with a smile on his face.Garlic is a total toy enthusiast, showing off his gentle manners and his impressive Olympic-worthy jumps whenever his favorite ball comes out.
Read more about Garlic
And when playtime’s over? He’s all about leaning in for some back scratches and good company.Grateful for every friend he meets, Garlic is ready to find someone who’ll love strolls, sunshine, and snuggles just as much as he does - and a hike with endless scents and sights? His dream come true! One of our lovely volunteers wanted to share a little bit more about our Garlic. "Garlic is a sweet, gentle boy, who would play all day if you let him. He enjoys fetch and will almost hand the ball back to you . He also likes to play tug. Garlic walks nicely on the leash, and loves to sit beside you to enjoy lots of pets, he is the best boy ever!" If Garlic were a destination, he’d be Italy — bursting with life, color, and curiosity at every turn. Like Italy, he’s full of joy and warmth, always inviting you to slow down and savor the moment. He has that irresistible charm that makes you fall in love without even realizing it. Exploring with Garlic is like wandering cobblestone streets and sunlit hills — every corner holds something new, vibrant, and full of heart. Once you’ve experienced his companionship, you’ll carry the memory with you forever. A note from Garlic's rescue Buddy: His favorite things are playing catch in the play yards with balls and stuffy toys. He's really good at letting you know if he wants to play tug of war or fetch. He does not guard at all when we are out and if you simply stop tugging on a toy, he'll give it right up since he knows you'll toss it. He's also been doing well on the trail - we had a biker fly up behind us very close (almost hit us) and I got startled and shouted, but Garlic didn't even bat an eye - so proud of him! He walks like a dream on leash, and only pulls a bit when he sees a dog he wants to pull toward. Walk-ins are welcome! Stop by during our open hours to meet our available dogs!!Before you can adopt, please complete an adoption questionnaire on our website at https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/36924/generic. 21. Berti
Male · Terrier / Mixed

**Berti is a courtesy post and is not located at or affiliated with Paws Crossed Animal Rescue Meet Berti - a 5 to 6 year old pup who is ready to steal your heart! Berti came to PAWS-LI via a high-kill shelter in NYC after being left behind in a vacant apartment by his previous owner, with only his favorite toys and treats packed up in a bag to go along with him.Berti has been diagnosed with rear leg paralysis, (he wears a diaper for dual incontinence) but with his happy, loving, and playful demeanor, you'd think he didn't even notice. He scoots around well with his upper body strength, quite easily and very quickly! When he needs assistance leaving (or returning to) the house, his foster mom helps him with his harness so he can spend time just lying around or exploring outside and taking in all the scents.
Read more about Berti
If it were up to him, he'd spend hours outside just lazing in the sun, sniffing the air.He is very emotionally intuitive, appearing at his foster mom's side when he senses she's feeling down. He loves to rest his head on everyone's lap, and better yet, would love to lie in your lap if you sit on the floor with him! When it comes time to change his diaper, he assists as best he can, lifting his hips to make it easier for you.He rides great in the car and loves sticking his nose out the window or resting his chin in-between the 2 front seats. He is good with other dogs (very forward and friendly), and unknown with cats at this time, as he has not met one since being taken in by his foster mom. He loves children, especially those who will tug on his rope endlessly with him!He is fine with being left alone in the house and has no separation anxiety whatsoever. Upon returning home, his foster mom receives the most heartfelt greeting! Sometimes his enthusiasm causes him to nearly fall over backwards! He just can't contain his happiness! Also while being left alone, he has not once "relocated" or destroyed a single thing. There is never a need to crate him.Caring for a disabled dog may not always be the easiest undertaking, but the love and appreciation (and laughs!) that Berti has to give you will definitely make up for it.If interested in learning more about him or meeting this sweet boy, please contact adoptions@paws-li.org.

30. Charlie
Adult · Male · Poodle (Standard) / Terrier / Mixed

*Charlie is a courtesy post and is not located at or affiliated with Paws Crossed Animal Rescue A message from Charlie's caregiver - Charlie is 6 years old, neutered, and healthy. We rescued him from a shelter when he was about 6 months old. In the 5+ years we've had him, he's been a good, loyal, energetic, and well-fed boy. However, after we had a baby, circumstances became much more challenging. He's perpetually anxious, jealous, and often possessive/triggered by our toddler/her toys. We want to expand our family, but can't with the on-going stress of not being able to leave Charlie unattended around babies. As much as we love him, we think he would be happier in a more peaceful home without young kids.

It's a very sad situation for us because we love him. We want to find him a caring new owner and make sure he's loved. Thanks for reading and please message me if you think you'd be a good match for Charlie, or know someone who is.Please text Irene's cell: 914-374-8732

Adopting a dog in Westchester County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
