1. Zara
Puppy · Female · Siberian Husky / Terrier / Mixed · 85 mi from Canton

Looking for a big, dainty, princess of a puppy? If so, stop scrolling and let me tell you a little bit about myself...My name is Zara, and I am a 10-month-old blue-eyed beautiful girl weighing in at around 55 lbs. (and likely to continue to grow a bit). As you can see, I am extremely cute and cuddly with silky soft and fluffy fur. You would be surprised how little I shed (for now, anyway.) I am told I am a husky mix. I look much more like a husky than my brothers did, but I surely don't act much like a husky. I don’t howl, dig, or try to escape. I am, however, a picky eater -- not just with food, but you also better feed me using my favorite bowl and I will only eat when I feel like it!Along with my two brothers, I was rescued from the streets of West Virginia.

We do all love being outside but certainly appreciate the beds, couches, covers, meals and treats we have become accustomed to too. But mostly we love our people!Favorite hobbies include walking, playing with plush toys, people and dog watching and relaxing. I love to play and often entertain myself by throwing my toys and zooming to get them. I like to make a game of taking a sock or slipper here and there, but I don’t destroy them. I am very interested in human food and will jump on the counter to make sure you didn’t forget anything but I promise I won’t jump on you. Other than that, for such a young pup I am calm, cool, and collected. Unlike other dogs my age I know what personal space is. I will let you cuddle me but won’t nag you for cuddles. I take treats so gently. I don’t know many commands or tricks yet, but I am such a good girl. A little training will go a long way. I don’t bolt out of the door or steps, I’m patient and know how to wait, and I’m getting better at drop it and leave it. I am amazing on a leash (if I do say so) ...just to name a few of my best qualities :)Things that need work: I’m friendly, but reserved when meeting new people (especially children). Everything is very new to me. The shelter I was rescued from said I don’t like cats, but my foster mom says I just look at them and don’t seem to want to chase. I’m interested in birds but haven’t explored chasing them.Things I’ve (mostly) perfected: I am house trained and crate trained. I’m very friendly, but need a moment to warm up with most people, and my foster mom has labeled me as a wonderful companion. If you are interested in having an all-around good girl, a sweet dog to adventure with, hug, play and walk with, apply for me today!Available through Paws Across Pittsburgh, Sprindgale, PA KL #16182

Meet Lambchop! This adorable pup has a big personality and a wonderful mix of playful energy and lap-loving sweetness. His new family should continue a consistent potty routine and expect occasional accidents as he learns. He currently eats three meals a day and is always enthusiastic about treats! Leash walking is still a work in progress. Some days he’s eager to try, while other days he prefers backyard fetch. A securely fenced physical yard is required so he has a safe place to run and play while he builds confidence on walks. Loud noises can make him unsure, so his new family should focus on this area with patience and understanding. A calm, supportive home that can gently help him build confidence and feel secure will be the best fit for Lambchop. Lambchop has no known medical issues. His ideal family will embrace his puppy energy and provide daily exercise, positive-reinforcement training, and plenty of love as he grows. If your idea of a great day includes backyard games, puppy antics, and a tired little dog curled up in your lap, Lambchop might be your perfect match! Lamb chops adoption fee is $750, and he is being fostered in central Ohio. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines, and started on heartworm, flea, and tick prevention.

7. Penelope
Puppy (10 months) · Female · Shih Tzu / Mixed (long coat) · 89 mi from Canton

Meet Penelope, a happy, energetic young girl who will celebrate her first birthday on October 10th! Penelope loves people and enjoys the company of other dogs. She has a joyful, enthusiastic personality and approaches life with all the excitement and curiosity you would expect from a puppy. She loves Nylabones and other durable chew toys and is always ready to play. Because of Penelope’s energy and exuberant play style, she is best suited to a home without young children. She is still learning appropriate puppy manners, including how to trade an item she has for something of higher value. She can occasionally be possessive of food or special chews around other dogs, so these items should be carefully managed while her training continues.
Read more about Penelope
A young, energetic companion dog is recommended, provided the dogs meet beforehand and are a good match. Penelope’s enthusiasm may be overwhelming for an older or more laid-back dog. She has been around a dog friendly cat and does well with him. Penelope requires a securely fenced yard where she can safely run, play, and burn off her puppy energy. She is comfortable sleeping in her crate at night and resting there when her foster family is away. She also does well for the groomer and has no known medical concerns. Penelope is looking for an active, patient family that will continue helping her develop good manners while embracing her wonderfully happy puppy personality. With positive guidance, plenty of activity, and lots of love, this cheerful girl will bring fun and affection to her forever home! Penelope’s adoption donation is $750, and she is currently being fostered in the Central Ohio area. She has been spayed and microchipped and is current on her rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella, and bivalent canine influenza vaccines. She has tested negative for heartworms and is on monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention.

Adopting a puppy in Canton
Puppies usually go to their new homes from about eight weeks old, once they're weaned and have had their first vaccinations. Most rescues spay or neuter them before adoption, or include it in the fee.
Ask the rescue how big the puppy is expected to grow and which breeds they think are in the mix, so you can plan for the dog they'll become.
Puppies need a lot of your time: house-training, a few minutes of training every day, several small meals, and someone home often enough to let them out. A puppy class is a good way to start.
