1. Bandit
Young · Male · Carolina Dog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Bandit!
Bandit is a 1 year old, neutered Carolina dog and Labrador mix who was saved from euthanasia in a high kill TX shelter. He has been fostered for 3 months in Lebanon, TN. We are looking to rehome him in the next two to three weeks because our resident dogs do not get along with him despite our best efforts.
Read more about Bandit
He is eager to please, intelligent, playful, medium energy, affectionate and curious! He is good with people of all ages, including children 5 and older, and gets along well with dogs when he is properly introduced. We think Bandit would do well in a home with other dogs that match his playful energy. He would also do well in a home as a solo dog.
We do not recommend him for a home with cats given his prey drive towards small animals.
Bandit is house/potty trained, crate trained and walks well on a leash. He currently knows "sit", "leave it" and “wait” and will patiently wait at doors and for his meals. He is very treat motivated and responds well to a clicker during his training. He has received some obedience training and continues to learn new skills each week.
Bandit loves to play fetch, loves squeaky and chew toys and playing chase with his foster siblings.
Bandit is 41 lbs, in perfect health, neutered, fully vetted, up to date on all vaccines and rabies, heartworm negative, microchipped and current on heartworm preventive.
Foster will provide Bandit’s food, all vet records and rabies certificate for his new adopter.
If Bandit sounds like the kind of companion you've been missing, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com. Be sure to include your city and state so we can learn a little about where this handsome fellow might be headed for his next chapter!

8. Jolene
Adult · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Miss Jolene is all ready to find a place to call home! She is up to a healthy weight and her skin infection is all healed up! Jolene is about 2-3 years old and a beautiful brindle with the coolest markings. Jolene enjoys being with her people - she would love a lap to lay across or someone to take her for casual walks so she can sniff the ground. Jolene has done great with the female dog in her foster home after a proper shutdown. Her preference would be a laid back dog should she have to share space with another 4 legged friend. Jolene went from a dog starving on the streets of Philly, to a dog enjoying the warmth of a home. We are still working on her housebreaking as she occasionally still has accidents in her crate. Now that her body is properly processing her food, she is able to hold it longer. Jolene will be spayed next week and is up to date on vaccines.

9. Krypto
Young · Male · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Krypto!
This handsome boy is ready to find his happily ever after, and we think someone is going to hit the jackpot with this kid!
Krypto came to us from ACCT Philly a few weeks ago after being diagnosed with pneumonia as a result of the respiratory infection circulating through the shelter. Thankfully, he's on the mend and ready to start enjoying the good things in life!
At approximately 8 months old and 45 lbs, Krypto is the perfect combination of goofy puppy and professional snuggle bug. Here's what you need to know about this handsome newcomer:
Dog friendly! Krypto enjoys the company of other dogs.
Read more about Krypto
Almost housebroken! He's about 90% there. You just need to pay attention to his signals. When he starts walking in circles, that's his way of saying, "Ummm, I need to go outside!"
Toy destroyer extraordinaire! If it squeaks, crinkles, or looks remotely fun, consider it a goner. Indestructible toys are definitely going to be your best investment with this guy!
Puppy zoomies included! He's still a youngster, so expect some silly antics and bursts of energy.
️ Crate trained! He knows how to settle in when it's time for a break.
❤️ Professional snuggler! And this is where Krypto really steals your heart. After all the zoomies, toy demolition, and puppy shenanigans, what he wants most is YOU. Human contact, cuddles, and being close to his people are his favorite things.
Krypto is still a puppy, so he'll need a family willing to continue working with him, provide plenty of playtime, and help him grow into the amazing adult dog we know he's going to be.
If you're looking for a best friend who will make you laugh, keep you entertained, and happily take over your couch (and probably your heart), Krypto might just be your guy!

12. Rambo
Adult · Male · Shih Tzu / Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed

Meet Rambo, a 13-pound Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix guy with a big personality and a heart that is just beginning to figure out how wonderful it can be to belong to someone. At around 4–5 years old, Rambo arrived at a small-town Tennessee shelter as a stray, and it didn't take long for him to stand out. He's a handsome, happy, good-natured little character who seems to be discovering, perhaps for the first time, what it means to be safe, loved, and somebody's very own dog.
Rambo is a work in progress in the sweetest possible way. He genuinely wants to please, is smart, and picks up on new concepts quickly.
Read more about Rambo
In just two weeks in foster care, he has made wonderful strides. He's learning household manners, responding to verbal corrections, figuring out doorways and curbs, and discovering that walks can be fun. He still looks to his people for reassurance when something is unfamiliar, but he's learning to trust that someone is there to help him navigate this big new world.
And then there's the affectionate side of Rambo that really makes you smile. He loves pressing his little head against you, and he's beginning to understand that cuddling isn't something he has to be suspicious of. Recently, his foster mom was able to hold him close for a long, peaceful snuggle. He would drift off to sleep, suddenly wake and look around as if checking that everything was still okay, then settle right back in. It was one of those little moments that tells you just how much this boy is learning to let his guard down. He's not completely relaxed yet, but every day brings a little more progress.
Rambo has embraced the comforts of home, too. Soft blankets, fluffy pillows, cozy beds, and toys have quickly become some of his favorite things. He has a crate he considers his own little safe place, and if he decides a toy is especially wonderful, he'll carry it right inside. He's also learning that a little structure goes a long way. His foster family has found that giving him a designated pillow to settle on helps him calm down when his excitement gets the better of him. He can get a little mouthy when overly excited or too familiar, but he is responding to gentle, consistent verbal correction and learning better ways to interact.
He is doing well with the other dogs in his foster home, who have been helping him learn the ropes. One is showing him the fun side of being a dog, while another is keeping him mindful of boundaries. Rambo is still learning that food will be available regularly, so he does best eating separately to keep mealtimes peaceful. He's also a little nervous about stairs, but he's perfectly willing to let his favorite human carry him when needed. At the vet, he was a social, happy little fellow whose tail hardly stopped wagging.
We suspect Rambo may not have had much experience with the kind of patient, unconditional affection every dog deserves. He's still learning that he doesn't have to look out for himself all the time, that his bed will still be there tomorrow, and that a gentle hand can mean comfort instead of uncertainty. Watching him make those discoveries has been incredibly rewarding.
Rambo needs a person who will give him time to settle in, offer clear and consistent guidance, and celebrate the little victories along the way. In return, you will get a clever, affectionate, entertaining companion with so much potential and a growing desire to be close to his people. He's already making progress in foster care, and we think the right person will help him blossom even more.
Rambo may not arrive knowing all the rules of being someone's beloved little dog, but he's eager to learn. And just imagine how wonderful it will be when he finally realizes that he's home for good. Please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested. He is in Nashville, TN in a foster home and we transport to the northeastern corridor of states and have designated transport stops every weekend. We have been transporting d

15. Brittany
Young · Female · Beagle (short coat)

This beautiful purebred Beagle girl called Brittany is our pride and joy to offer to a Beagle loving family. Her story is sad and one that will make you sad and mad all rolled in to one roller coaster of emotions. A young newly wed couple were driving from their home in Chattanooga, on their way to a honeymoon in Nashville, TN. Out of the corner of their eye while driving, they saw a truck pulled over and pushing this girl out onto the side of the road and then drive away. They owned two dogs of their own and it broke their heart to see such meanness. She was in a desperate situation. They pulled over and took her in to their car and then started making calls to shelters and rescues in the Nashville area where they were destined to arrive in a few hours.
Read more about Brittany
They got Critter Cavalry on the phone and we stepped up to take her in immediately and we would make sure she had a future family who would never do such a horrible thing as to abandon her. What we have found out with Brittany is that she is a happy and inviting girl who loves to play with other dogs and who loves to spoken to with kindness. She craves love which we are sure she got little of before. Her fav game is to chase a ball. She is young as in probably a year or 2 at the oldest and she weighs 26 pounds. She is being spayed 10/23 and has already started her shots and worming. She is picture perfect if you want a Beagle or small dog that is not tiny but resilient and fun and loving. We know she loves couches and dog company for playtime and hanging out. She’s housebroken and will definitely need a fenced yard to keep that Beagle nose safely within sight of your back door.

She is a social girl who walks great on a leash, and rides wonderfully in the car, making her the perfect companion for neighborhood strolls and weekend road trips!
She has perfectly mastered the balance between outdoor fun and indoor relaxation time. One of her favorite pastimes is exploring every nook and cranny of a fenced backyard. When she isn't on backyard patrol, she is usually proudly carrying her favorite squeaky toys around the house like tiny prizes. Once she has successfully burned off her playtime energy, Mini Hufflepuff expects her payment in full: epic belly rubs. She will gladly roll over and let you scratch her belly for as long as your hand can manage!
The Ideal Home:
Mini Hufflepuff is a social butterfly who fits beautifully into a family dynamic. Thanks to her upbringing, she is friendly with other dogs, coexists wonderfully with cats, and does great with older children, 7 and up, who can respect her space and join in on her toy-tossing fun. She would do best in a home with a fenced backyard where she can safely explore, sunbathe, and trot around with her toys to her heart's content. She is past the chaotic puppy phase, completely house-trained, and packed with a lifetime of love to give. In other words, she is perfect!!
If you would like to meet sweet little Mini Hufflepuff, please fill out an adoption application at http://www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention her name!

19. Professor Knox
Adult · Male · Doberman Pinscher (short coat)

Professor Knox.... my oh my what a beautiful soul this Doberman is!!! What you feel from Knox when you meet him is hope and an energy that he wants to learn and grow in to a phenomenal Doberman. Born on Christmas Day of 2025 this sweet puppy had all the hope in the world of a great life ahead. Somehow the stable future got sidetracked and he was not treated well in his first adoptive home. What happened next was a kind young couple heard of his plight and need for a new place and eagerly took him home without doing all the homework on the needs of a smart Doberman. They could not give him the big fenced yard and the time that a Doberman of his caliber needs. They have tried to be what he needs but they realize he needs so much more. With love they are asking Critter Cavalry Rescue to help them find his forever home soon but with much scrutiny. This 70 pound boy at just 10 months must not be placed in hands that are not capable and knowledgeable of the breed. Professor Knox is a sweet soul that has no aggression or fear. He is still so innocent in his time to learn and a sponge to be shaped and molded in to greatness. Professor Knox is a boy that needs more time out and about in the world so that he can be a great Ambassador for his breed. He loves cats and has his "own" cat in this second home that he is in now. He needs a dog to play with . The current dogs in his home are old and over the excitement of youth. Knox deserves a youthful playmate. He is housebroken, crate trained and knows how to manage a doggie door. Professor is a lover and not a fighter but if someone he does not know comes to the house and he greets them, he will stand between the visitor and his owner. Natural Doberman character. He is truly not leash savvy at all. He will need a new owner to train him on that and perhaps a harness will work best. He is not a chewer but he will gather things from around the house and put in his dog bed. This boy has the nature of a protector and a lover. A smart dog that is the best of his breed. He is still young and learning and we want a Doberman savvy family to adopt him and polish his nature talents to the fullest shine!!!!

If you have a fenced yard, time, experience and love for the Doberman breed, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com Professor Knox is ready for the new forever chapter of his life to begin. It has been a journey in this first year while in the hands of a few families. His destination is now in our hands at Critter Cavalry and we will be very careful and caring to find the perfect landing for him.

20. Riggs
Adult (3 years 3 months) · Male · Shih Tzu (medium coat)

Meet Riggs! A Little Gentleman with a Big Heart!
Say hello to Riggs, (affectionately known as RIGSBY by his foster famiy) is a handsome 3-year-old Shih Tzu who is discovering that life beyond the kennel can be pretty wonderful! ❤️
Riggs came from a commercial breeding facility, so he’s still learning all about the joys of being a beloved family pet. Toys, leash walks, and house manners are new adventures for this sweet boy, but he’s catching on one little step at a time!
One of Riggs’ greatest teachers has been his canine friends. He looks to them for reassurance and guidance, and you should have seen him on just his second day in his foster home — watching his buddies and happily following along on a leash! Having a friendly, confident canine companion in his forever home would help Riggs continue to blossom and build his confidence.
Riggs gets along with cats, too! He loves to cuddle and is a very sweet, loving little fellow. Because the world is still new to him, he can be a bit skittish if approached too quickly. With a gentle approach, patience, and a little understanding, he’ll have the chance to feel safe and let his loving personality shine.
At night, Riggs settles into his crate, and he’s already making wonderful progress as he learns the routines of home life.

22. Snowy TX
Young (9 months) · Female · Pomeranian / Husky / Mixed (long coat)

MEET SNOWY! Beautiful, Blue-Eyed and Looking for a Fresh Start!
Snowy is an absolutely gorgeous Pomsky (Pomeranian/Husky mix) who will celebrate her first birthday on Christmas Day! Weighing under 20 pounds, this fluffy little girl has stunning blue eyes, a beautiful coat and a whole lot of personality!
Unfortunately, Snowy’s life hasn’t gotten off to the best start. Through no fault of her own, she found herself needing a new home when her owner’s circumstances changed. Living in an RV with a young, energetic puppy simply wasn’t providing the space, exercise or stimulation Snowy needed.
Read more about Snowy TX
Snowy is a sweet, affectionate girl who needs an active, patient and committed home willing to provide the exercise, structure and guidance that a young Pomsky requires.
Now, here’s the important part.
Snowy has demonstrated resource and space guarding behaviors around smaller dogs and has gone after them when she feels her space is being invaded. For this reason, we believe Snowy would do best as the only dog in the home. A home with a larger, compatible dog may be considered with careful introductions and appropriate supervision.
Snowy needs room to run, opportunities to play and, most importantly, someone willing to invest the time in helping her become the best version of herself. She’s still just a puppy, and with the right environment, consistency and guidance, we hope she can thrive.
Snowy doesn’t need perfection. She needs someone who understands her needs and is willing to give her a chance. Please share Snowy’s story and help us find the home she deserves!
If you think Snow would be a good fit for your home, please complete an adoption application at http://www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention her name!
23. Pebbles
Young · Female · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat)

Pebbles is the cutest, sweetest, gentle little girl. Smaller and cuter than she appears in photos. She is only 3 years old, under 40 lbs, and has not had a great life. Bred several times (probably not on purpose) and not well cared for, this happy, silly girl is a love, once she comes out of her shell (takes a day or so). A touch timid with new people, but then super playful, affectionate, and a bit goofy, once she knows you. She should have a fenced yard (or experienced people), since she is a touch skittish in new situations, and on leash. Good with dogs and cats. Pebbles truly is a happy, silly girl, who just wants to be with her person/people. A must meet, for again, so much cuter and smaller in person and she will steal your heart, for sure.

24. Molly
Young · Female · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat)

Molly is the cutest little thing. Just a sweet, mini-cattle dog. She is only about 1.5 years old and 22 lbs of an adorable and playful little herder. Molly is super friendly and social and good with dogs, and cats (but with cats, she needs correction from time to time). She is truly such a good little girl and so easy to work with and train, and such a happy, bouncy, fun, companion dog, although a touch timid at times, with some new people. BUT, she is a cattle dog and needs folks who understand what this means, so she can get the home she will thrive in. Way smaller than she apears in the photos and SO adorable! Knowing this type of breed is a must, for her to get what she needs, and so folks understand what a little dog like this is all about.

25. Reece
Adult · Male · Australian Shepherd / Mixed (long coat)

Our handsome boy Reese is an Australian Aussie mix boy who is approximately a year and a half old, weighs 38 pounds, and is fully vetted—he is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, and heartworm negative. Reese has a friendly, easygoing temperament and gets along wonderfully with everyone, including children of all ages, other dogs, and even the cats. He is definitely a rare Australian Shepherd who does not display the usual alpha temperament that most males of his breed do. He is a happy boy that delights in going for car rides and going for walks with his person. We do ask that his new forever home have a secured and fenced yard. It is best for his breed who loves to explore and be active. We think that he is ideal for a first time dog owner, families with children over 5 years of age and certainly singles who want an adventure buddy in life. He can fit right in to so many different family lifestyles.

Young · Male · Wheaten Terrier / Poodle (unknown type) / Mixed (medium coat)

Ralphie is a goofy, silly, playful, affectionate pup. He is only about 1 year old and about 43 lbs. He is smart and easy to work with, but a fenced yard and continued training would make him even better than he is now. He is affectionate and loves to play with other dogs. could be trained around cats, but would need an experienced person to guide him. Ralph is good in any situation and truly just a wonderfull, hypoallergenic buddy. A must meet, for this boy is so much cuter than the photos show. Great active (not hyper) companion. Guessing at his breeds, but this is what he looks like to us.

28. Hank
Adult · Male · Great Pyrenees / English Shepherd / Mixed (long coat)

Hank is the best boy! He was found wondering the streets, either left behind, or lost, but no one showed up at the shelter to claim him. He is so friendly and affectionate and gentle. We believe him to be only about 3 years old and a lean, 70 lbs at this time. He could use a good grooming, but all in all, is jsut an incredible family dog, for folks who like the bigger breeds. Hank is good with everyone he meets and with dogs - we can cat test. SO handsome in person. A must meet, for this great dog will steal your heart, for sure. 29. Harry
Adult · Male · Miniature Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat)

Harry is the cutest guy, and super sweet and silly. His owner got sick, so he ended up at the shelter. His coat was a mess and his hair was almost glued over his eyes, but he is a lot better now and on his way to a beautiful coat (will take several more months of good nutrition). He has clearly been fed junk and not cared for very well for a long time. He has a little vision and hearling loss, but gets around fine and will follow us everywhere. He is a diamond in the rough, for sure. Harry is 7 to 9 years old and 17 lbs of affection. Harry is so gentle and loves being in the yard or going for a walk, and would do best if not alone all day without his humans. He does not shed and loves being with his person/people. Not an ounce of agression, but we prefer no very young kids who are not super experienced with smaller dogs. He is good in most any situation and good with dogs, and cats. A must meet, for this adorable little hypoallergenic boy is just the best. So much cuter than these photos. Sweater photos show him with his face groomed up a bit. Harry will steal your heart, for sure.

30. Dr Knox
Adult · Male · Cocker Spaniel (medium coat)

Meet Doctor Knox! And yes, he is every bit as handsome as his name suggests. This gorgeous blonde Cocker Spaniel has soft, wavy hair, a happy little wiggle, and a personality that lets you know he's arrived. He'll be turning 4 years old in November and weighs a healthy, trim 33 pounds. He's a wonderful age, past the puppy craziness but still young enough to enjoy plenty of playtime, walks, toys, and adventures with his people.Doctor Knox also comes with his own built-in home security system. He likes to announce when someone new comes around, so there's no need to spend money on a monthly alarm subscription.
Read more about Dr Knox
Just keep his food bowl filled, his toy basket stocked, and remind him how handsome he is. He considers those perfectly reasonable household arrangements!Knox loves his toys, especially his chew toys, and enjoys his morning or evening walks. He is happy to entertain himself with a favorite toy and can often be found stretched out on his dog bed, contentedly passing the time. He's currently enjoying life in a foster home with other dogs and plenty of activity. He has opinions about his canine housemates and isn't a boy who takes much sass from anyone, but he's also learned to settle in and enjoy having company around. His story is a little sad. For nearly four years, Knox was the king of his castle and had a home and person of his own. Unfortunately, his owner eventually decided she no longer had the time to spend with him and surrendered him to rescue. It took him a little while to adjust to the change, but he's found his footing again and is showing everyone what a happy, loving boy he really is.What Knox wants most is a person or family who genuinely enjoys having a dog around. He loves his people and would do best with someone who understands the Cocker Spaniel personality: affectionate, clever, sometimes vocal, occasionally opinionated, and always full of character. He needs a kind, confident leader who will give him consistency, attention, and a place where he can feel secure and loved. If you've ever loved a Cocker Spaniel, you probably already know what makes these dogs so special. And if you've never had one, Doctor Knox might just be the fellow who introduces you to the joys of the breed. He's handsome, happy, playful, and ready to be somebody's special boy again. He's had a home once, and he'd really like to have one for keeps this time.If Doctor Knox sounds like the kind of companion you've been missing, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com. Be sure to include your city and state so we can learn a little about where this handsome fellow might be headed for his next chapter!

How to adopt from Northstar Pet Rescue
Potential adopters will submit an adoption application. The adopters information will be screened including veterinary and personal references. After the first round of screening they will get the chance to meet the pet. If it is a good match, as deemed by NSPR volunteers, the adopter will complete an adoption contract and pay the fee of 375.00. All animals will be spayed/neutered and fully vetted prior to adoption. The only exception would be small puppies in which case the adopter will submit an additional deposit refundable upon proof of spay/neuter. In the event an animal is no longer wanted, the adoption contract will stipulate that the animal always gets returned to us, and is never sold, given away, or surrendered to another rescue or shelter.

Adopting a dog in Monroe County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
