BIO: Toby was turned over to us by another rescue after being returned for a severe ear infection. The infection has been fully treated, but they felt we could better find him a forever home due to his Dachshund mix. We are conducting a DNA test to determine his exact mix.

Toby gets along well with other dogs but can be hand-shy when someone reaches over his head. This may be due to past experiences, so his adopter should be patient and understanding. Since joining our rescue, he has grown more trusting and is becoming less fearful. He loves to play ball and enjoys the game, even if he doesn’t always bring it back.

Our must haves for Toby are:

A fenced in yard
Another senior dog to hang around with
Someone that is retired and can spend time with him as he loves his humans once he trusts
No apartments, high rises or condos and he does like to bark at things

If you think you can give this sweet boy a home, then reach out to the rescue. He deserves a good home because we are not sure he’s had that.

BIO: This little guy just can’t seem to catch a break. Artie originally came from North Carolina, and since arriving, we discovered he is heartworm positive and has a mild back condition. His new adopters will need to ensure he avoids jumping and stairs, and stays at a healthy weight. His heartworm treatment will be complete by the end of December, at which point he will be ready for adoption.

When Artie first arrived, he was quite shy. After nearly a month in rescue, he has really come out of his shell and become very social with people he knows. Adopters should expect him to be a bit shy initially, but with a little time, he will become a loving and playful companion. He loves playing games, which includes playfully stealing items like dryer sheets, toys, or paper so you will chase him!

Artie currently uses a doggie door. If his new home does not have one, he will need to be taken out to potty on a regular schedule. Artie is crate trained so or if you were going to be gone crating him would be fine.

Our must haves for the little man are:

A fenced in yard is a must
Another small adult dog for him to hang with
Someone that can be home more than not
Please no apartments, high rises or condos

If you think you can give Artie a great forever home then don’t waste time. Fill out our application. He’ll be waiting for you to take him home the end of December. Thank you for thinking of rescue and wanting to help the homeless one rescue at a time.

BIO: Meet Roxy. What a sweet girl!!
Roxy is such a sweet girl! She is a retired breeder, but that hasn’t stopped her from exploring her new surroundings and learning new things.
Roxy will need another small dog in the home to help her continue learning how to be a dog. Her adoptive family must understand that she will need time to get comfortable with her people, but watching her progress will be incredibly rewarding.
Being all dachshund, she will bark at strangers until she knows they are friendly and willing to give her some attention. Roxy is crate trained and uses a doggie door to go potty outside. She loves being outdoors, exploring all the smells, and is doing great walking alongside two big neighborhood dogs

Male · Shih Tzu

Lil Dickens is five years old and weighs about 14 pounds. As of last week, he is up-to-date on all of his vaccines and shots and even had him groomed this week. He is a very loving baby. and loves nothing more than sitting with his mama in the recliner. He would be best with an older person and to be the only dog. I do not know how he reacts with cats, but I know he gets very jealous if another dog comes around his mama. He does love children.Available dogs are met by appointment only and pre-approved adopters ONLY.Our dogs are currently in a foster homes which can answer your questions better than anyone else.

THIS BOY IS GORGEOUS!! He's also a goof ball!
BIO: Winston came from a severe hoarding situation where he was locked in a kennel with three inches of waste. Considering everything he has been through, he’s a friendly boy that loves people (once he warms up within minutes) and toys. He will also play with other small dogs but is also fine with bigger dogs as well.
His only issue is he does have some separation anxiety so he would need to be crated should you leave the house. We think that’s why it’s important to have another dog in the household and you to know how to help him over his anxiety. This boy is so worth the effort. He’s a happy and loving boy and would be great with several children over the age of 8 yrs. Younger than that he might knock them over in his joy of playing or just happy to be a part of a family. Give him a chance, won’t you?
Our must haves for him are:

16. Kon+

Male · Rat Terrier

This has to be the luckiest unlucky dog ever.Kon was being given away in a parking lot to anyone. As luck would have it he was picked up by someone who contacted Russell Rescue to help him. That was his good luck. Now the bad luck. Precious one has a shin issue because of neglect, parasite issue and the worst luck is he is heart worm positive. Can you imagine if he had ended up with someone who did not take him to a vet and take care of all these issues. His bad luck would have been the death of him.But Kon still has the luck of the Irish and he is getting the best of care. Russell Rescue will positively be sure his luck will only be good from now on.Help Kon now by being his foster or better yet his adopter.

Their previous owner told us they’re 11 years old, but I’m going to need her to check her math—because there is NO WAY. These two have more pep and personality than dogs half their age. Marley is about 13 pounds and runs around like a puppy. He’s happy, healthy, and just an all-around fun little guy. He loves going for walks, snuggling, eating (of course), and settling in for a good nap when the excitement is over. And then there’s Chloe—or Chloe 2, as we call her—because she looks almost exactly like a Chloe I fostered for well over a year. She’s a tiny 7-pound ball of spunk. She runs along the back of the couch, prances around the house, loves her treats and munchies, and happily entertains herself with toys. Both are great with other dogs and have settled in beautifully. They even slept comfortably in separate crates. Ideally, we’d love to see Marley and Chloe adopted together, but unlike some bonded pairs I’ve fostered, they don’t seem overly dependent on each other. I do think they could be happy adopted separately into the right homes. They are seriously the funnest, sweetest little things—and apparently no one has told them they’re supposed to be seniors. Chloe/Lightning is the female/spayed. She weighs approximately 7lbs. Her only issue currently is she does need MPLs on both knees....though she still gets around well, though sometimes stairs prove a bit difficult.Available dogs are met by appointment only and pre-approved adopters ONLY.Our dogs are currently in a foster homes which can answer your questions better than anyone else. FOSTER HOME: Diane allamericandachshundrescue@gmail.com

BIO: We can’t say enough good things about this little girl. She came from rural TN and was bred every time she came into season but lucky for her a Good Samaritan saw her plight and stepped in to take her. The Good Samaritan was driven to save her but could not keep her so she reached out to us for help. Rosie is all sunshine and roses and she SMILES! If you talk sweetly to her, she’ll give you her sweet smile. You can see it in one of her pictures.

Rosie didn’t know how to play but she is learning and would be fine with another male or female pup around her age that is socialized. She craves attention because she never had any and she loves it.

Sadly, she came to us with heartworms so she will go through treatment for those and will not be available until the 28th of November, just in time for the holidays. Don’t let the heartworms scare you. She is light heartworm positive and she’ll be clear of them when she goes to her forever home. This delay will give you plenty of time to plan for Rosie and shop for her for the holiday.

Our must haves for this little one are:

A fenced in yard
Another brother or sister to learn to play with, young and small - no big dogs
Someone that can be home more than not
Please no apartments, high rises or condo

If you want years of devotion, then you can’t go wrong with this Rosie. Apply, get approved, and we’ll keep you posted on how she is doing with treatment. If you live close enough, you can come and visit her when approved.

BIO: Dolly and Patsy came from West Tennessee when the owner went through a major life change and could no longer keep them. Several dogs were surrendered to us that day, but Dolly and Patsy just have to stay together.

They love each other, play together, and sleep together, though they cannot eat together (Patsy eats with a slow bowl; Dolly eats slowly). They do everything together, and we just could not separate them, so if you are looking for a pair/instant family, you have found them. They are both happy and friendly; it might take a minute for them to warm up, but not much longer than that.

They love playing with toys and seeing what trouble they can get into, so pick up anything that falls on the floor because it will be theirs. They love doing zoomies in the fenced yard in the morning and running in and out of the house; it would be great if you had a doggie door.

If you want these two to be yours, fill out the online application and select their names from the drop-down box.

Our must-haves for this dynamic duo include:

A fenced yard
Someone who is home more often than not
If you have another dog, then he/she must be 3 years and under since both these ladies love to play
No apartment, high-rises, or condos (anything with shared walls)
Active family ONLY, as they are not couch potatoes

If you decide to adopt these two and you are approved, this will be the best thing that has happened and will happen in your life. They will give you years of enjoyment, fun, and laughter!

23. Cj

Irish Wolfhound / Jack Russell Terrier

CJ was born on December 10, 2021. He is currently 20 lbs and is current on all his vaccinations, including Bordadela for boarding purposes. We have taken exceptional care of him. He has been a mouthy dog since puppy. Of course we thought it was just puppy bite but we soon found out that he grew into it. We did everything we could to train him until after 3 years we took him to a very reputable Veterinarian Behaviorist. We worked with her for a year. All kinds of meds, different foods. He was on Farmers Dog for a long time then developed allergies so we put him on prescription food from the vet.

Read more about Cj

When nothing really worked, the recommendation was that we euthanize him. Our hearts were broken and we decided to give him a second chance at life. We knew he was a good dog and just needed something more. He needed leadership, direction and protection. Of course we didn't know this as we never had a Jack Russell before. We then found a behavioral trainer in TN who has had CJ for 5 weeks. The transformation has been nothing more than amazing. He is so well trained now. He has become quite the celebrity on Instagram. People are following his progress and routing for him. It's been wonderful to see. An entirely different dog. We will continue the training virtually until the end of September. This was the best decision we ever made for him. We also purchased all the tools that he is currently getting in training. New kennel, new bed, his new food.(Raw Variance). Slip lead we will get from his trainer. CJ needs a loving environment where he can live out the rest of his life happy and healthy. He will still need to adhere to all of the training he received otherwise our concern would be that he will more than likely revert back to his old habits. CJ is just not compatible for us and now more than ever my husband has some major health issues that we have to deal with and we cannot give him the attention he deserves. BIO UPDATE (9/28/2026): It has been such a joy to watch sweet Roxie settle into her foster home and blossom. She is happiest outdoors, running through the yard, playfully chasing squirrels and birds, and barking when she sees deer in the woods. She shares a special bond with her foster sisters and truly enjoys being with them. Since coming into foster care, Roxie has lost 2 more pounds and is looking slimmer and healthier but losing maybe another 1 ½ lbs would be perfect. She may always have her sweet, sturdy little build, and that is one of the many things that makes her special.

BIO: Roxie came from Alabama. She is a shy girl at first, but once she warms up to you, she’s your friend for life and will follow you all over the house and yard. Roxie is a bit of a picky eater but may have been fed table food, which is why she’s not crazy about dog food.

Roxie is great with other dogs, male and female, but we do not know about cats. So it is best not to try to adopt her if you have a cat. She has been accustomed to her previous owner being home all the time, so she may have to adjust if you work out of the home. It would help having another small, young dog for her to hang with.

Our must-haves for pretty Miss Roxie are:

A fenced yard
Another young small dog
Someone who can be home more often than not
No apartments, high-rises, or condos

If you think Roxie would be a good fit for your home and you meet our requirements, please apply to adopt her. She truly is a sweet girl, but you must be willing to help her lose the weight she needs to be at her best weight.

29. Sunny DD

Female · Corgi / Rat Terrier / Mixed

Sunny is one of those dogs that will be the one in a lifetime friend. She will be you children’s best friend. Their Nanny dog. She love being outside the best but in side she will watch any tv station without asking you to hangs the channel. Sunny loves car rides and I bet would like the boat just s much. Hiking will bring out here search and rescue skills looking for a good time. Please do not over look Sunny. You will never regret having her as you next best friendI am now fostering Sunny, a beautiful midsized and very sweet girl 3 year old girl. I just got her yesterday so we are just learning about each other, but I wanted to get a picture of her on here and tell you what I have learned so far.

Read more about Sunny DD

She loves children and other dogs, but I don’t think she cares for cats. She’s young with perfect teeth and good breath and high energy. She loves chasing a tennis ball but if you leave it with her, she will chew it up in about an hour. So I got a textured rubber ball that will withstand the chewing and she’s having a great time with it. She comes when she’s called most of the time and we are working on that. She shows no interest in jumping my fence and loves the backyard. Her fur might be the softest I’ve ever touched. Although I have a cover and allow her on the sofa, she has decided she likes the large dog “muddy mat” bed even better. These beds have a removable cover for washing. I can only foster till Sept 17th so help us find her forever home before then so she won't have to go back to boarding!!Introducing you to Sunny! Attention all Jack Russell lovers! Sunny Remington is a Jack Russell mix weighing in at 35-40 lbs. She is up to date on all vaccinations. She has typical Jack Russell characteristics: full of energy, prey-driven, loves jobs, loves companionship with her person. She will protect you, play fetch with you (hours upon hours) and love you (snuggles under blanket beside you). She would do best in a home with no small children and no other animals (she is the queen). Sunny is house trained and crate trained. Her best trick is bouncing the ball herself and catching in her mouth. Serious inquiries please. 2023 - Sunny is a 5 month old JRT mix! She is currently in a foster home through our MS team, has received two rounds of vaccinations/dewormer/prevention, and is thriving! Sunny was rescued off of the side of the road by the garbage truck crew. An owner reached out to claim her, but never came to get her. She was terrified at the shelter, but thankfully a foster stepped up to temporarily house her! She’s dog friendly, and loves to play!! We would love for Sunny to be able to hitch a ride on our transport to RR this coming up Saturday, but would need a foster and/or potential adopter to do so! Please reach out to the Russell Reacue Team if you’re able to help Sunny! This is Sunny! Sunny is a 5 month old JRT mix and weighs 15lbs. She’s dog/cat/kid friendly, kennel trained and has been doing well on potty training. She’d do well with an active family — she loves to go on walks! Adopting a dog in Lincoln County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
