1. Sailor
Adult (5 years 11 months) · Male · Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Meet Sailor!
Sailor is an approximately 6-year-old Lab mix with a big personality, a love of adventure, and an even bigger love for his people. He’s looking for a home where he can be someone’s loyal companion, adventure buddy, and couch potato—all rolled into one.
Sailor absolutely lights up when he realizes he’s going for a walk, a car ride, or an outdoor adventure. He gets adorably excited at first, then settles right down once he’s on leash or in the car. He would be an amazing match for someone who enjoys hiking, exploring, or spending time near the water.
Read more about Sailor
And water is definitely Sailor’s happy place. He LOVES swimming, playing fetch in a pool or lake, and enthusiastically “attacking” the spray from a garden hose. He does great on a pontoon boat and would probably take well to paddleboarding or canoeing with a little training. On trails, he has excellent recall off leash and loves getting out to explore.
For all his adventurous energy, Sailor is just as happy relaxing at home. He loves being near his people and curling up on the couch. He is crate trained and willingly goes into his kennel—often choosing to rest there on his own. He also rides calmly in the car, including on long trips.
Sailor has had three weeks of professional sleep-away training and knows a great list of commands, including heel, sit, stay, down, place, kennel, here, “leave me alone,” and more. He walks nicely on leash and is very food motivated. His all-time favorite treat is hard-boiled egg yolk; he can hear the little “tap tap” of an egg on the counter from practically anywhere in the house and will come running! He also has excellent house manners and does not chew things that aren’t his toys.
Sailor would thrive best as the only pet in the home. Cats are far too intriguing and, in his opinion, clearly meant to be chased. He has done well with some smaller dogs, particularly more submissive females. On walks, he is generally easy to redirect around other reactive dogs, although he may respond if another dog surprises or challenges him through a fence.
Most of all, Sailor loves being part of his family. He wants to be included, whether that means heading out for an adventure or hanging out together at home. He would do best in an adults-only household or a home with older teenagers.
Sailor’s current family loves him deeply and is heartbroken to be looking for a new home for him. Before they adopted him, Sailor had spent about two years living in a kennel. Sailor is comfortable with affection from adults—even big hugs—but he is uneasy about being touched by young children, likely because of something in his life before he joined the family.
Because their children understandably want to love on him, his family has made the difficult decision that Sailor deserves a home where everyone can feel comfortable and where he can truly thrive.
Sailor has already been through a lot, and he has so much love, fun, companionship, and adventure left to give. In the right home—one without young children and preferably without other pets—he is going to make someone an incredibly devoted best friend.
Please share and help us find Sailor the home he deserves.

3. Dante
Young · Male · Pug / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Meet the cutest boy in town -Dante!
How this little guy ended up on the euthanasia list instead of cuddled up in someone’s lap we will never understand.
Dante is PRECIOUS! And is loads of fun! He is the happiest little guy but does spook at some things that we are still trying to identify, welders are definitely scary but rightfully so. When he does spook just a little reassurance and the cutie is back.
Dante was picked up as a stray by Harris County and fortunately we were able to get him just in time.

4. Mina
Young · Female · Husky / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Meet Mina
Mina may not be a Scout’s Honor dog, but we are honored to courtesy post her for our friends at Friends of BARC because this precious girl deserves the world.
At only a year and a half old, Mina has already faced challenges that most dogs never will. She has a neurological disability that gives her a wobbly little walk and some adorable quirks, but if you ask us, those things only make her even more special. They are part of what makes Mina, Mina.
Read more about Mina
This sweet girl doesn't know she's different. She wakes up every day ready to love, play, and enjoy life. She has the happiest spirit and the kindest heart. Mina absolutely adores other dogs and would love a playful canine sibling who can be her best friend. Watching her play is enough to make anyone smile.
Mina does have some special needs. She struggles with potty training and may never be fully potty trained, so she will need a patient, understanding home that can love her exactly as she is. Someone who sees past the challenges and sees the incredible dog underneath.
Because underneath it all is a young girl who just wants what every dog wants—a soft bed, a loving family, and someone to tell her she is perfect.
We know taking on a dog like Mina may not be for everyone. But we also know there is someone out there whose heart is big enough to fall in love with her wobbly walk, her silly quirks, and her endless capacity for love.
Mina deserves a chance. She deserves a foster home. She deserves a forever home. Most of all, she deserves someone who will love her for exactly who she is.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Mina, please let us know and we will connect you with the Friends of BARC team.
Sometimes the dogs who need a little extra help end up giving the most love in return!

5. Bella
Adult (5 years 3 months) · Female · Shepherd / Carolina Dog / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Bella does not need everyone to love her. She needs one person willing to give her enough time to believe them.
Bella was adopted as a puppy, but somehow, at about 5 years old, she has already ended up at the pound twice. Whatever happened in between clearly left a mark. She is not the kind of dog who runs into a stranger’s arms five minutes after meeting them. She watches. She worries. She needs time to decide that you are safe.
And really, who could blame her?
When Bella was surrendered the last time, she spent her days watching every door and every person who passed, searching for the people she knew. They did not come back.
Read more about Bella
Now she is safe with Scout’s Honor, but she is living in boarding while we look for the right foster or forever home. She is about 5 years old and 55 pounds, a beautiful Shepherd mix with those wonderfully expressive ears and the intelligence and loyalty that come with them.
Bella is gentle, sensitive, and cautious. New people and unfamiliar situations can scare her at first, so she needs someone who understands that trust is not something you demand from a dog like Bella. You earn it. Quietly. Consistently. Without rushing her.
And then you get to see the real Bella.
Once she realizes she is safe, the fear begins to soften and her sweet, loving personality comes through. That is the reward with dogs like her: you know the affection is real because she chose to give it to you.
Bella is not looking for a chaotic household or someone expecting instant perfection. A calmer home without very young children would likely suit her best, and she needs a person who can give her structure, patience, and the time to settle in at her own pace.
The good news is that Bella does not need some extraordinary dog expert to save her. She needs someone dependable. Someone who will not take her hesitation personally. Someone who understands that a scared dog is not a broken dog.
She has already been uprooted enough.
What could change Bella’s life now is actually very simple: one home where she is allowed to exhale, one person who keeps showing up, and enough time for her to learn that this time, nobody is leaving.
If you are the kind of person who believes the dogs who take a little longer are worth the wait, Bella may be waiting for you.
Scout’s Honor covers all expenses associated with fostering as needed.

6. Suki
Young (1 year 3 months) · Female · Boxer / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Meet Suki! One look into those big, soulful eyes and a few happy tail wags from her shelter kennel, and we were completely smitten.
When we first met Suki, she was happy to come up to us, but the moment we clipped on a leash, she froze. So, like the princess she is, we carried her over to our dog temperament testing area. And honestly? She made herself right at home!
To no surprise, Suki was wonderful with every dog she met. She was ready to play, make friends, and show off her fun personality. In fact, her shelter name was Rockstar because she was the rockstar of her playgroup—and we can absolutely see why!
Read more about Suki
Suki is around a year old, possibly even younger, and still has all that adorable puppy energy. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and believes that hugs are one of life’s greatest gifts. If you’re looking for a dog who will shower you with love, Suki is your girl.
She absolutely adores other dogs and would love a playful canine companion to romp around with. Whether she’s making new friends or snuggling up for attention, Suki’s joyful spirit shines through in everything she does.

7. Jasmine
Young · Female · English Setter / Spaniel / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Sweet Jasmine’s story is one we wish we didn’t hear so often. She found herself at Harris County Pets and landed on the long-stay list, where time was running out.
We spotted her during a shelter pull, but with so many lives to save and not enough hours in the day, we had to leave without meeting her. We couldn’t stop thinking about Jasmine, so first thing Sunday morning, we went back.
We hoped she’d be as wonderful as we imagined. To be sure, we introduced her to another dog we planned to save, and Jasmine passed with flying colors. No surprise there!
Read more about Jasmine
Jasmine is a people girl through and through. Her favorite place is as close to you as possible, preferably curled up in your lap, soaking in all the love and attention. She has a gentle, affectionate nature that makes it easy to fall for her.
Jasmine is dog-friendly and enjoys playtime, including with younger, high-energy dogs. She also loves cuddles and being close to her people. With her sweet, easygoing personality, she could be a wonderful fit for just about any loving home.
She’s settling in beautifully, discovering the safety and kindness she deserves. Now she just needs a foster or forever family to make her happy ending complete.

8. Ruby
Young (2 years 4 months) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Coonhound / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Meet Ruby - one look at that smile, and you’ll understand why everyone falls for her.
Ruby was found as a stray alongside Fletch. They’re said to be siblings, though they look nothing alike. Maybe they came from the same home; maybe they found each other while surviving on the streets. We may never know. What’s clear is that they leaned on each other, and now Ruby is ready for a loving person of her own.
At about 2 years old and 55 pounds, Ruby is a happy-go-lucky girl who seems delighted to meet everyone. She was wonderful with every dog during temperament testing: ready to play, soak up attention, and give plenty of love right back.

Ruby’s bright eyes and joyful expression match the sweet spirit we’ve seen in her. She’s up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and ready for the next chapter: a safe, loving home where she can share all that happiness.

9. Selma
Adult · Female · Hound / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Meet Selma—the big, goofy girl who just wants to be close to you.
Formerly known as Indara at Harris County Pets, Selma is beginning a new chapter with Scout’s Honor. She shared a kennel with our sweet Patty and showed us what a kind, loving girl she is.
The shelter estimates Selma is around 6 years old, though we think she may be a little younger. Whatever her age, she has plenty of love to give—and she’d make a wonderful couch buddy. Selma may be a big girl, but her favorite place is right beside her person.
Read more about Selma
She can be a little unsure at first and may need a moment to take in a new situation. With patient guidance and a little reassurance, her loving, goofy personality shines through. Selma is dog-friendly and could enjoy a canine companion; she likes a little time to figure out a new dog’s play style before she settles in.
Selma deserves a home where she can feel safe, loved, and close to her people. Could you be the one to give this sweet girl her fresh start? Please consider fostering or adopting her.

Don’t let his size fool you—Taz has enough personality packed into his little body for a dog twice his size! This handsome terrier mix was pulled from Harris County alongside his kennel buddy, Mac, during our recent shelter rescue mission, and we’re so glad he’s finally getting his chance to shine.
At around 2 years old, Taz is the perfect mix of fun and laid-back. Hello beautiful -- Introducing Lisa!
Lisa is one of the sweet girls from our shelter pull this weekend. She was surrendered by her owner to Harris County, though we don’t know the reason why. We do know one thing though…this mama has clearly had puppies recently, but sadly they were not turned in with her.

Goose (f/k/a Lenny) was our second medical case from our shelter pull, and this sweet Chocolate Lab has been doing amazing at VERGI! We are tackling each of his medical issues in order of importance, and thankfully he is on the right track and ready to be discharged.
Despite everything he’s been through, Goose is exactly what you’d expect from a Lab — happy-go-lucky, loving, goofy, and just an all around chill guy. We truly cannot understand how this handsome chunk sat in the shelter for so long unnoticed, but we are so grateful we realized something was wrong and were able to rush him to the emergency vet when we did.

16. Lucius fka Shuppo
Adult (4 years) · Male · Mastiff / Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Lucius: Those Eyes Tell a Story. That Tail Tells You Who He Is.
Lucius is only about 3–4 years old, but he has already been through more than any dog should. When we first met him at Harris County Animal Control, he was painfully thin, missing patches of fur, and carrying a deep scar around his neck from a heavy chain. After his owner passed away, Lucius was reportedly beaten by officers responding to the home.
He cowered in the corner of his kennel. But when we came close, he wagged his tail.
That’s Lucius. Even after everything, he kept looking for someone to love.
Read more about Lucius fka Shuppo
With patience and care, he began to come back to life. The frightened dog we first met became a joyful, affectionate boy who loves to play. Then, after slipping away during a veterinary trip, Lucius spent 29 days missing. We never stopped searching, and we were overjoyed when we found him and brought him home.
Now Lucius is ready to make up for lost time. He’s full of life and energy, loves to play ball, and enjoys playing with other dogs. Those eyes may break your heart, but his happy, bouncing spirit will win it right back.
Lucius is looking for a foster who can welcome his playful energy and give him the love he has always deserved. Scout’s Honor Rescue can cover all fostering expenses as needed.

17. Tito
Young (1 year 1 month) · Male · Border Collie / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Introducing Tito!
Read more about Tito
Tito was known as Rocky at Harris County, but without the amazing support from Tito’s Vodka, we may not have been able to pull him. Tito’s played a huge part in helping us reach our goal for our shelter pull, and we felt it was only right to name one of these deserving dogs after them! Tito came into the shelter as an owner surrender, though the reason remains unknown. What we do know is that he is in great shape, absolutely adores people, and deserves a second chance at the life he’s always deserved. Now, he’s safe with us forever. This handsome boy is incredibly sweet, loving, and ready to find his place again. Tito gets along wonderfully with other dogs and loves to play, making him the perfect addition to just about any home! We are currently looking for a foster for this special guy. 18. Moo Deng
Young (4 years 3 months) · Female · Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Bulldog / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

You do not need a pygmy hippo. You need Moo Deng.
Moo Deng is short, wide, mighty, and approximately 60 pounds of pure personality. She is built low to the ground, shaped a little like a coffee table, and somehow manages to be both powerful and completely ridiculous in the best possible way.
She’s about 3–4 years old, heartworm negative, loves people, and did beautifully meeting dog after dog during our shelter pull. She is social, confident, funny, and extremely easy to adore.
And then there is the ball.
Read more about Moo Deng
Moo Deng loves playing ball more than just about anything in the world. The good news is that she is not one of those Labrador types who will make you throw it until your shoulder requires medical attention. She plays hard, has a blast, and then is perfectly content to clock out and resume her other favorite activity: hanging out with her people.
She likes other dogs, too, and has several friends she gets to play with at boarding. Unfortunately, because she is in boarding, those playdates are sporadic. There are only so many opportunities for her to get out, play, and simply enjoy being a dog.
And Moo Deng really enjoys being a dog.
She is a rough-and-tumble player, so she would likely love a canine friend who appreciates the same kind of enthusiastic play and can comfortably match her style. She is not looking for a delicate little wallflower. Think less afternoon tea, more friendly backyard wrestling match followed by a mutual collapse on the floor.
That is also why we would love to get her into a foster home. Boarding keeps her safe, but it cannot give her the regular walks, ball games, playtime, routine, human companionship, and couch lounging that a home can.
Her wish list is pretty reasonable: a ball, some room to play, people who think her ridiculous little body is as fabulous as we do, and perhaps a dog buddy who can appreciate a good romp.
Scout’s Honor covers all expenses associated with fostering as needed. You provide the home and a little of your time. Moo Deng will handle the entertainment.
Apply to foster or adopt Miss Moo Deng at www.scoutshonor.org.
Please share her, too. Somewhere out there is someone whose life is missing a short, wide, ball-loving house hippo. We just need to find them.

19. Hope
Adult (2 years 11 months) · Female · Rhodesian Ridgeback / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Hope has spent enough of her life being somebody’s mama. We think it’s time she finally got to be somebody’s baby.
Hope is only about 3 years old, but when we first met her, her body told a much older story. She had clearly been bred over and over again, and she arrived looking like a dog who had spent far too much of her young life giving everything to everyone else.
Read more about Hope
We met her during one of our shelter pulls. Her kennel sat right beside the small yards where we were evaluating dogs all day, which meant constant barking, movement, strangers, and dogs coming and going. Hope never made a fuss. She simply watched us, wagged her tail, and waited patiently for someone to come over. When we did, she pressed herself against the kennel gate so hard trying to get closer that her sweet little face practically smooshed through the bars.
That calm, loving nature has only become more obvious with time.
Hope is incredibly smart, knows basic commands, listens well, and has a wonderfully patient temperament. She loves people, gets along beautifully with other dogs, and carries herself with the kind of steady confidence that makes her easy to have around.
And now, she is healthy, spayed, at a good weight, and happy.
The dog we first met has blossomed.
Hope no longer looks like a dog who has been used up by life. She looks like a dog who is ready to live it.
She enjoys affection, walks, companionship, and being included. She is sweet without being frantic, playful without being wild, and affectionate without demanding every second of your attention. She is simply a really lovely dog.
Yes, Hope is a bully mix, and we know those dogs are often overlooked. But anyone who spends time with her quickly sees what the label misses: she is calm, intelligent, social, patient, and deeply loving.
She has already done the hard part. She survived, healed, gained weight, got healthy, and learned that life can be good.
Now she needs the part that matters most: a foster or forever home where she can finally belong.
Scout’s Honor covers all expenses associated with fostering as needed. If you have been considering fostering or adopting, Hope is ready.
It is time for Mama Hope to stop being everybody’s mama and finally be somebody’s baby.

20. Fletch
Young (2 years 3 months) · Male · Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Bunker Hill Village

Now this boy is a total goofball… meet Fletch!
Fletch was found as a stray alongside his brother, who looked just like him, and sweet Ruby, another girl we pulled during our shelter pull. His brother was lucky enough to get adopted, but Fletch and Ruby were left behind and getting closer and closer to euthanasia. Thankfully, they’re now safe with us forever.
Read more about Fletch
Fletch is estimated to be around 2 years old, but honestly he could easily be closer to 1 because this boy acts just like a puppy. He’s goofy, energetic, playful, and absolutely full of life. Fletch definitely thrives with exercise, structure, and having rules in place. Truthfully, he just doesn’t seem like he was ever taught much before now.
What he does know is how to love. Fletch loves every single person he meets and is always ready to make new dog friends too. He’s the kind of dog that will keep you laughing daily with his silly personality and puppy antics. We know once he’s getting consistent exercise, has structure, this boy is going to settle into being such an awesome companion.
Fletch is doing great in boarding, but we would LOVE to get a foster lined up for him as we head into week two. Somehow he hasn’t come down with any shelter crud, and we are crossing our fingers it stays that way!
Please consider fostering or adopting this handsome goofball. We know his person is out there somewhere
