1. Papito
Adult (3 years 1 month) · Male · Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat)

DOB 10/1623, weight 16 #
Hey there, everyone! I’m Papito, a black and tan Jackshund (Jack Russell/ Dachshund mix) fella. I was happily situated in my adoptive home until my owners encountered financial difficulties. Unfortunately they had to downsize to a smaller home and couldn’t take me with them. Thank heavens my new foster mom welcomed me with open arms until I can find a new home. I get along great with the visiting grandkids, other small dogs, and even the cats in my foster home, although I’m nervous around large dogs whom I meet on walks.
Read more about Papito
Because my previous household was quiet, when I first arrived in my foster home, I was very fearful and shy because of the robust dog and cat activity. Fortunately, Foster Mom knew that it would take time and patience for me to adjust into my new “digs,” and with her gentle voice and affectionate touch, she has been showing me that I am securely loved, and --voilà! – watching me blossom has been something truly special for her. My prior owners had not trained me well, but Foster Mom is helping me work on my housetraining and crate-training – let’s just say that I’m a work-in-progress.
Now I’m looking for the family who will welcome me into my forever household. If you have a quiet home and a little patience, I think we might be exactly who each of us has been waiting for. Arrange to meet me today! My heart has so much love to give – all I need is YOU!
HOPE ID D26-1016-0055
Papito’s $200 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, basic vaccines, microchip and registration, testing for heartworms, negative fecal test, and preventative treatment for heartworms and fleas.

2. Boy
Young (2 years) · Male · Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier / Cairn Terrier / Mixed (medium coat)

DOB 10/16/24, weight 22 pounds
Hey there, everyone! I’m Boy, a happy, friendly, and calm grey-cream Wheaton/ Cairn Terrier mix fella who weighs exactly in the middle of these two breeds! What a perfect size I am to be devoted to all ages of hoomans in my foster home – adults and grandkids. Plus I get along great with the cats and other small dogs! I’m already crate- and house-trained, which is another bonus.
Read more about Boy
I was happily situated in my adoptive home, along with my little buddy King, until my hooman mom was hospitalized and my elderly hooman dad could not care for the two of us. Thank heavens my new foster mom opened her arms and home to both of us until we can find a new home. If you’re looking for a sweet scruffy terrier who’s just the right size – not to small and not too large – I’m the loving boy made to order for you. Arrange to meet me today, and see if I don’t cause love and laughter to echo throughout your house among you and your kids.

3. Dash
Adult (6 years 5 months) · Male · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat)

Dash (originally named 'BESO' by CAP) was pulled from CAP after he showed 'kennel cough' symptoms. Since there are so many unvaccinated/young dogs in the shelter, it was not safe for anyone to leave him there. ALL of our dogs are fully vaccinated against kennel cough, so bringing him into our care was safe. He went straight to our vet, where they told us he showed NO sign of kennel cough. (Probably just the irritation of the trachea from his trach tube during his neuter surgery!) This little boy is a delight.

4. Meliyah
Adult (8 years 11 months) · Female · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat)

Meet Meliyah—a tiny girl with a big love for lap time!
This sweet Yorkie mix weighs just 6.24 pounds and is happiest cuddling with her people. Her previous owner describes her as affectionate, playful, gentle, and eager to please. She enjoys comfy dog beds, couch time, and making sure you know when someone is at the door!
Read more about Meliyah
Meliyah is reported to be house-trained, leash-trained, and a good car passenger. She gets along with other dogs, but she would also enjoy being the center of someone’s world. She needs a home without cats or toddlers. Her former owner reported that she growled or snapped when a toddler handled her roughly, so gentle handling and respect for her small size are essential.
Her family surrendered her out of concern for her safety after rough toddler interactions and another dog’s food aggression toward her. Now she’s looking for a home where she can relax, feel secure, and soak up the affection she loves.
Since coming into rescue, Meliyah has been spayed and received a dental cleaning, vaccinations, and parasite prevention. She tested negative for heartworms.
Have room in your heart—and on your lap—for Meliyah? Apply to adopt through Yorkie Rescue Houston!
She is on a 'sensitive stomach' food and owner reports success with that.

5. Heath
Puppy (6 months) · Male · Great Pyrenees (long coat)

Meet Heath, a wonderfully sweet "badger boy" with a beautiful, slightly curly coat who is looking for his perfect forever family! As part of our "Sweet Treat" litter born right here in our rescue care, Heath has been raised with hands-on love from the very beginning, making him remarkably calm, smart, and responsive to human affection. He is a gentle soul who is perhaps a bit more thoughtful and reserved than his energetic littermates, making him an absolute dream for someone who loves a balanced pup. 17. Lola
Puppy (5 months 11 days) · Female · Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat)

DOB 5/6/26, weight up to 15 lb. at maturity
Hey there, everyone! I’m Lola, a very sweet, feisty, and very playful wire-coated Russell Terrier mix gal who looks like a plush toy come to life! I may have some Chihuahua mixed in because I’m mostly black with white paws and vest, and Russell Terriers are always mostly white with black markings. My dark, almond-shaped eyes and mobile V-shaped ears exhibit the Russell’s hallmark intelligent expression.
Read more about Lola
I have an adorable personality – although I rarely like to be held -- and I love to run and have fun. Although I’d probably be good around kids, Foster Meowmy prefers my forever family to be toddler-free. I’d probably be good around cats, but I can’t promise that I wouldn’t chase them! I get startled by large dogs, so Foster Mom is insisting that I be adopted into a home with no large dogs. Actually, I'd shine the most if there's only a small, male dog to be my buddy or if I'm an only dog-child.
Foster Mommy noticed that my sisters, Lili and Luna, and I were kept outside by my owners. After expressing her concern to them that we weren’t meant to be strictly outdoor dogs, she was able to persuade them to surrender us to her. They admitted that they couldn’t financially afford to keep us anyway. I weighed 8 pounds at 3 months old and should weigh up to 15 pounds at maturity.
Now I’m ready to become the jaunty, lively new addition to my forever family. In fact, I dream about running around in the backyard with everyone and then collapsing in their laps while we watch TV together. Could that be you? Arrange to meet me today! I promise we’ll fall head over paws in love with each other the instant we meet!

Young (2 years 4 months) · Female · Dachshund (short coat)

Sadie is a new arrival to CTDR after being surrendered by her owner who could no longer keep her. Sadie became a little jealous of a new dog on the home and it was best to have Sadie find a new home. If so, please complete an application at www.ctdr.org.

19. Samu
Adult (5 years 4 months) · Male · Boxer

Hi! I'm Samu, I’m a complete gentleman with soulful eyes and a heart way bigger than my wrinkly forehead. I'm looking for my forever family, and I promise I'm worth it.
My résumé:
• Potty trained (nailed it)
• Crate trained (I’m sometimes reluctant, someone has to protect the human beds)
• Great eater. I'll finish my bowl, then politely ask what's on your plate
• Toy enthusiast. Squeaky, fluffy, ropey, I love them all
• Expert snuggler, especially on beds. Yes, I know which pillow is yours.

My social life: My foster brother Jax and I are tug-of-war besties, and we could play all day. I'd probably be happiest in a home with another playful pup to wrestle with. I also met some neighbor kids and was a total gentleman!
Still working on: Leash walking. The world is just SO exciting, and I'm learning that we don't have to sniff all of it at once. A patient human and some practice will help me get there.
If you want a goofy, loving sidekick who will make you laugh, follow you everywhere, and keep your couch warm, I'm your guy.

Adult (5 years 5 months) · Male · Boxer

Hi there friend, my name is Jaxon! Are you ready to have a paw-sitively amazing life? Because I am fur-real looking for a couch to call my own!
Honestly, I'm not sure who I love more: other people, or other doggies, but I love meeting new friends, whether they are two-legged or four-legged. I really just cannot wait to meet YOU!
I really love going to the park and getting to play and run with the other pups, but I'm also just as happy to lounge around on the couch with you. I really just want my family around so we can all love each other. I'm still learning what kind of toys I like, but I will be sure to get back on here and update you.

I am really a lover-boy at heart. I am a world champion at wiggling my whole body with excitement. I'll show you the best of my wiggling abilities every single time you walk through the door and say hello to me again! I also show off my wiggling to new friends; did I mention I love meeting new people?
I would really love to be in a home with another dog. I really feel safe and comforted in the presence of a good friend, and possibly future sibling! I also love kids too, so if you have little ones in the family, I am very patient and promise I would be a fantastic brother to them. I have not spent too much time around kitty cats, but I don't have much of a prey drive. I'll let you know soon if I think I'd get along with your kitties.
I am fully house-trained and crate-trained - my crate is my safe and cozy space and I love to go in there to relax. I do need some guidance when walking on a leash, but I don't pull whatsoever!!
Thanks for reading about me so far, and I promise I will be back on here soon with more info for you! I hope I get to meet you and have a chance to show you some of my world class wiggles. If you have any questions so far, please reach out and ask to get in touch with my paw-sitively amazing foster, Riley.
Fur-real though, you're paw-some for taking the time to learn about me! I'm staying paw-sitive and hoping we can be friends fur-ever! HAVE A BOXER-RIFIC DAY!

21. Gigi Grace
Young (5 years) · Female · Dachshund / Cavalier King Charles Spaniel / Mixed (long coat)

Gigi Grace--or Grace, as we call her--can be calm and is always affectionate, once she gets to know you. She is my shadow. She follows me everywhere, and when I sit down, she jumps in my lap. She loves to nap curled up next to me. If she's not on my lap, she is on the floor right next to me. However, she is also very playful, especially lately, since she is now used to us and fully recovered from her surgery (spaying). After breakfast, she likes to play with our other dachshund. She also has a particular toy that she likes. She will shake it and run around with it and play tug-of-war with me. She LOVES to run around the yard.
Read more about Gigi Grace
She tries to get the collie to chase her, and she loves to chase the ball. Grace is pretty much house trained. The only time she's had accidents is when we leave the house for a few hours. I am working on getting her to use the pee pad during those times. It's going well, but she's not 100% perfect yet. Grace does not seem to have any separation anxiety, but she has two other dogs here to hang around with when we're gone. No destructive behaviors (like chewing); no excessive barking. The only time she barks is when someone comes to the house. She is good on the leash and in the car. We have really loved having her with us. She has been really easy to take care of.

24. Sailor
Adult (5 years 11 months) · Male · Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Sailor!
Sailor is an approximately 6-year-old Lab mix with a big personality, a love of adventure, and an even bigger love for his people. He’s looking for a home where he can be someone’s loyal companion, adventure buddy, and couch potato—all rolled into one.
Sailor absolutely lights up when he realizes he’s going for a walk, a car ride, or an outdoor adventure. He gets adorably excited at first, then settles right down once he’s on leash or in the car. He would be an amazing match for someone who enjoys hiking, exploring, or spending time near the water.
Read more about Sailor
And water is definitely Sailor’s happy place. He LOVES swimming, playing fetch in a pool or lake, and enthusiastically “attacking” the spray from a garden hose. He does great on a pontoon boat and would probably take well to paddleboarding or canoeing with a little training. On trails, he has excellent recall off leash and loves getting out to explore.
For all his adventurous energy, Sailor is just as happy relaxing at home. He loves being near his people and curling up on the couch. He is crate trained and willingly goes into his kennel—often choosing to rest there on his own. He also rides calmly in the car, including on long trips.
Sailor has had three weeks of professional sleep-away training and knows a great list of commands, including heel, sit, stay, down, place, kennel, here, “leave me alone,” and more. He walks nicely on leash and is very food motivated. His all-time favorite treat is hard-boiled egg yolk; he can hear the little “tap tap” of an egg on the counter from practically anywhere in the house and will come running! He also has excellent house manners and does not chew things that aren’t his toys.
Sailor would thrive best as the only pet in the home. Cats are far too intriguing and, in his opinion, clearly meant to be chased. He has done well with some smaller dogs, particularly more submissive females. On walks, he is generally easy to redirect around other reactive dogs, although he may respond if another dog surprises or challenges him through a fence.
Most of all, Sailor loves being part of his family. He wants to be included, whether that means heading out for an adventure or hanging out together at home. He would do best in an adults-only household or a home with older teenagers.
Sailor’s current family loves him deeply and is heartbroken to be looking for a new home for him. Before they adopted him, Sailor had spent about two years living in a kennel. Sailor is comfortable with affection from adults—even big hugs—but he is uneasy about being touched by young children, likely because of something in his life before he joined the family.
Because their children understandably want to love on him, his family has made the difficult decision that Sailor deserves a home where everyone can feel comfortable and where he can truly thrive.
Sailor has already been through a lot, and he has so much love, fun, companionship, and adventure left to give. In the right home—one without young children and preferably without other pets—he is going to make someone an incredibly devoted best friend.
Please share and help us find Sailor the home he deserves.

25. Chiki
Senior (8 years) · Female · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat)

Chiki — 7 Pounds of Love, Opinions & Main-Character Energy
Meet Chiki, an 8-year-old, approximately 7½-pound spayed little lady whose former owner described her as a Yorkie/Maltese mix. She has spent all eight years of her life with the same family, so finding herself in rescue is a very big change for this tiny girl.
Read more about Chiki
Chiki wasn’t surrendered because she did anything wrong. Her family welcomed premature twin girls at only 27 weeks, followed by a 95-day NICU stay. One of the babies developed chronic lung disease and needs to be kept away from animals and other potential triggers. Chiki consequently had to begin living separately from the family she had always been accustomed to being with, and her owner recognized that Chiki deserved a home where she could once again be part of someone’s everyday life.
And being with her people is exactly what Chiki wants.
She’s a people girl
Her former family describes Chiki as affectionate, playful, a lap dog and a toy lover. She wants attention and closeness, and she especially enjoys people who are generous with affection.
There is, however, a little Yorkie-sized security department operating inside that 7-pound body.
Chiki is territorial and vocal. She barks. A lot. She takes a little time to decide whether a stranger has been cleared for entry into her inner circle, but once she knows you, the affection comes out. Her former owner was very clear that although Chiki is a barker, she is not aggressive.
Translation: Chiki has opinions, and she believes the neighborhood should hear them.
Her surrender paperwork also notes separation anxiety, which makes sense for a dog who spent her entire life closely attached to one family. An adopter who is home frequently and wants a genuinely companion-oriented dog may be an especially good fit.
Potty training: we're going to be honest
Chiki’s owner reported that she is not housebroken.
That means her adopter needs to be prepared for potty training — not merely hope she magically figures it out after moving into yet another unfamiliar environment. Consistency, routine, supervision and patience will be part of the deal.
If pristine floors are your highest priority, Chiki is probably not your girl.
If helping a little senior learn a new routine doesn't scare you, keep reading.
Cats? Nope.
Her surrender form specifically identifies Chiki as not cat friendly, so we are looking for a home without cats.
The medical glow-up
Chiki came into rescue at a beautifully appropriate weight. At her veterinary visits she weighed approximately 7.4–7.5 pounds, with an ideal body-condition score.
Her intake examination was otherwise reassuring: her eyes and ears were clear, heart and lung examinations were normal, her abdomen was comfortable, her skin and coat looked good, and she was walking normally without observed lameness. Her fecal testing was also negative for parasites, Giardia and Coccidia.
The big item on Chiki’s medical to-do list was her mouth.
She arrived with moderate dental disease, and rescue took care of it. Chiki underwent a full dental cleaning with dental X-rays and had nine teeth extracted. Her pre-anesthetic bloodwork was reported as normal.
So yes, girlfriend got the full dental spa package.
She is also microchipped, is reported as up to date on her core vaccines, received ProHeart heartworm prevention and Bravecto flea/tick prevention, and had her nails trimmed and anal glands expressed while getting established with rescue.
What Chiki needs now
For eight years, Chiki knew exactly where she belonged.
Then life changed around her.
Now she needs someone willing to give her the time to understand that she belongs somewhere again.
Her ideal adopter will appreciate a dog who wants closeness, won't be rattled by some barking, understands that she may initially be suspicious of newcomers, and is willing to work patiently on house training and separation anxiety.
Chiki isn't the dog for somebody looking for a perfectly programmed

27. Hazel
Senior (14 years 4 months) · Female · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (medium coat)

Est. DOB 4/26/12, weight 9 lbs
Meet Hazel!
Hazel is a sweet, spunky little girl with just the right mix of independence and affection. She has a personality all her own, but once she decides it’s time for some love, she wants to be right next to her person—or better yet, held like the baby she believes she is!
Hazel is a pretty mellow girl who enjoys the quiet life. Give her a soft bed, a cozy blanket to burrow under, and a person willing to cuddle, and she’s a happy pup. She’s great with people, dogs, and cats, and she’s not much of a barker, making her an easygoing companion.
She’s also a low-maintenance girl when it comes to day-to-day life.
Read more about Hazel
Hazel is house trained, does well in her crate, and is happy to settle in and relax. She is hard of hearing and mostly blind (but it doesn’t slow her down at all!) and requires daily OTC eye drops for her "dry eye," but these are an easy part of her routine.
Hazel was found roaming in the middle of a street, and we’re so glad she’s now safe and getting the chance to show everyone what a wonderful companion she can be. She would love a calm home where she can enjoy the simple things in life: a cozy spot, some cuddles, and a person to call her own.
If you’re looking for a sweet, quiet, easygoing companion who can be independent one minute and a total cuddle bug the next, Hazel may be your girl!

Hazel’s $200 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, basic vaccines, microchip, testing for heartworms, negative fecal test, and preventative treatment for heartworms and fleas.

28. Hershey &-wags
Young (1 year 1 month) · Female · American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Est. DOB 8/19/25, wt. 58 lbs
Meet Hershey! Hershey is a beautiful young American Staffordshire Terrier girl with a big smile, a big heart, and a whole lot of personality! She is incredibly sweet, smart, playful, and loyal—and she is ready to be someone’s best friend. Hershey is an affectionate and loyal girl who loves being close to her person. She wants to be part of the action, whether that means playing, running around, showing off her toys, or simply hanging out with the person she loves.
Read more about Hershey &-wags
Hershey is SMART! She knows commands including sit, stay, come here, shake, “get your bone,” and “get your toy.” She loves to play, play-wrestle, run (and she is FAST!), and have a blast with her favorite stuffed toys. She is also housetrained. When Hershey first came to us, she was very nervous, and it appeared that she may have been dumped. But as soon as she realized she was safe, her personality quickly came shining through. And what a personality it is!
Because of what appears to be some trauma in her past, we do have concerns about Hershey living with other animals or being around children, so she would do best in a home where those things aren't part of the picture. We think she deserves a person who can give her the attention, structure, and love she clearly craves.
Hershey is such a beautiful, intelligent, fun, and playful girl. She has an amazing smile, a goofy side, and so much love to give. Her rough start doesn't define her—the happy, silly, loving dog she is today does. Hershey is ready to find her person and start the next chapter of her life

29. Spring
Young (1 year) · Female · Carolina Dog / Mixed (short coat)

DOB 9/1/25, weight 31 lb.
Hey there, everyone! I’m Spring, a very sweet, calm, and very friendly Carolina Dog with four white paws and vest. Although a DNA test would reveal my heritage, I look like the ancient breed of Carolina Dog because of my large, upright ears, “fishhook” tail, and foxy-looking snout. Do you think I look like an Australian dingo?
A Good Samaritan saw me and my buddy Briar wandering for days in Spring Branch. That's why she named me Spring! She finally started feeding me until she could rescue and deliver me to my wonderful Foster Mom. I was so relieved to be in a safe haven because the hardscrabble life is no place for me.

Foster Mom assumes that I was someone’s lost or abandoned pet because I’m great with kids as well as the resident cats and I’m already housetrained. With my engaging disposition, it's no surprise that I’m ecstatic when I see her!
Now I’m ready to bring my winsome personality and relaxed tranquility to bless my forever family. Could that be you? Arrange to meet me today! I promise that we’ll fall head over paws in love with each other the instant that we meet!

Adopting a dog in Harris County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
