1. Cassie

8 Years 11 Months · Female · English Setter · 1 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

If you are looking for a devoted companion who will completely commit her heart to you, Cassie is ready to answer the call! At nine years young, this beautiful English Setter is a classic “Velcro dog” who loves human affection and forms an incredibly deep, loyal bond with the woman of the house. Cassie is a perfect blend of a calm house companion and a middle-aged Setter explorer outdoors.

Inside the house, Cassie is all about comfort. She believes furniture privileges are a must and loves curling up on couches, chairs, or snoozing right alongside you in bed.

Read more about Cassie

When you go outside with her, Cassie taps into her Setter drive and she loves patrolling an interesting yard, flushing birds, and chasing squirrels. She’ll go outside on her own and do her business, but if you aren’t with her, she’s ready to come right back inside. She needs a home with a secure yard with 4 foot fences to keep her safe while she explores. She doesn’t need a large yard or hours of outside time, just enough to stretch her legs and work her Setter instincts daily.

Cassie does have a strong preference for women. She attaches quickly to females and tends to ignore men in the household. She will thrive in a quiet household where the primary caregiver is a woman who loves the constant companionship of an affectionate Setter. Cassie is a confident lady who knows what she wants, and she prefers to be #1 with her Mom so she’ll do best as an only dog or a laid-back, quiet canine companion who gives her space and doesn’t question her spot as Queen Bee. Cassie lived peacefully in a temp foster home with a confident cat. We haven’t assessed her with kids so we think she would be best suited for a home with older, respectful teenagers or an adult-only home.

Typical of field ES, particularly our confident girls, she can be a bit stubborn at times, though she is a quick learner who knows her name, responds beautifully to the command “Here,” and is doing well with her house-training. Cassie is a great traveler who loads easily into the car and enjoys riding along for the trip. She’s a good eater and a slow feeder works best. Cassie does experience separation anxiety when her beloved human is out of sight, which can result in barking or whining. She is starting anxiety meds to help her feel more secure and help her settle into this new life as an inside dog. The first 9 years of Cassie’s life were spent mostly in an outside kennel. Following the 3/3/3 rule in rescue, where dogs need 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn their new routine and 3 months to know this is their home and safe place, Cassie is making good progress daily and we are hopeful that this gets better when she can trust that she is in a forever home.

Cassie is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and tests. She does have a heart murmur that is genetic; she can be as active as she wants and she is doing well on maintenance medications. Cassie is looking for an adopter who can offer patience, consistency, and a quiet routine. If you are a woman looking for a loyal, shadow-dog companion to patrol the yard by day and snuggle on the couch by night, Cassie is ready to fill your home with love.

2. Roz

7 Years 1 Month · Female · English Setter · 1 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Roz is a 7-year-young English Setter and, in her North Texas foster home, she is blooming into the beloved companion she was always meant to be. She found her way to SWESR when her previous owner in Oklahoma could no longer care for her, her brother Boe, and her mother Cassie, who were all rescued together. Roz has beautifully proven the "3 days, 3 weeks" rescue dog acclimation rule entirely true, adapting wonderfully from her past life as an outdoor kennel dog to the comforts of home living.

Read more about Roz

Roz is a soft, sensitive, independent and sweet soul. She can be a bit timid and shy at first, but she is treat-motivated and eager to please. She already responds well to routines, coming when called by her name and a clap of the hands. Roz is a quiet and polite houseguest; she does not bark at the doorbell, visitors, or outside noises, and she is completely non-destructive. While she is permitted on the furniture and nothing is off-limits, she has not yet ventured onto the couch on her own. She is very affectionate and looking for pets and love, but prefers receiving affection when she invites it. Thanks to her structured routine, Roz is now house-trained and has had no accidents in her foster home! She is great in her crate, staying there contentedly for 2 to 4 hours during the day when her humans are away and sleeping soundly crated through the night. Typical of many field ES, Roz has a bit of anxiety about loud noises and thunderstorms so she is looking for a quieter, non-hunting home.

Like many female ES, she can be a bit bossy with her brother Boe when she has a highly valued toy or food so her foster parents feed Roz and Boe separately. Roz does not resource guard towards humans, and once the initial meal is done, she doesn't mind sharing and will happily swap bowls with Boe to finish up every last bite. During her veterinary exam, it was noted that Roz has a heart murmur; it is genetic and inherited from her mother Cassie who has the same condition. There is no concern regarding her daily high-energy activity levels, her forever family will want to monitor it regularly with your DVM.

When it's time to head outside, Roz turns on her true English Setter engine. She loves to self-exercise as much as 4-6 hours a day, staying very active, curious, and playful while patrolling the yard or resting on the porch with her foster parents nearby. Roz has a medium prey drive, typical for a field English Setter; she loves to track crickets in the mulch and "hunt" frogs near the pool, though she prefers to just watch the birds rather than give chase. She has a blast engaging in energetic, friendly games of "tag" through the open fence line with the neighbor's Vizsla, Golden Doodle, and German Shepherd. While she isn't fond of swimming, she did accidentally fall into the pool early on and was successfully taught how to find the stairs, and she can safely navigate her way out on her own. Roz rides well in the car and is a calm passenger with no history of car sickness.

Roz is friendly and social with people. She has been introduced to 16, 8, and 2 year old grandkids and she was fine; during a party in her foster home, when things got more busy and loud for her liking, Roz put herself in her crate which is left open during the day. When meeting other dogs, she is social and friendly. Cats are unknown, but her mother Cassie has proven to be cat-safe and they lived on the same property together her whole life.

Roz would make a good first English Setter for a family new to the breed. While we think she would be content as an only dog (provided she gets plenty of human attention) or with a dog that would appreciate her somewhat bossy girl personality, she is already a wonderful dog match with her brother Boe who is in the same foster home. They can be adopted separately, but our preference is to adopt them together; they love each other and it would be great for them to transition to their forever home together. They will make a wonderful bonded

3. Boe

7 Years 1 Month · Male · English Setter · 1 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Boe is a 7-year-young English Setter and, in his North Texas foster home, he is becoming the beloved lap dog he was always meant to be. He found his way to SWESR when his owner in Oklahoma could no longer care for him, his sister Roz and his mother Cassie, both rescued with him.

Boe has proven the "3 days, 3 weeks" rescue dog acclimation rule entirely true, making steady progress towards being a house dog in his foster home. He has shown no signs of previous abuse, fear, or separation anxiety, and he is ready to find his forever family.

Read more about Boe

Boe is a certified sweetheart, an absolute "lover," and a true "Velcro" dog. Like a typical sensitive ES, Boe’s feelings are on full display and he loves nothing more than crawling right up onto the couch to melt into your lap or get full-body pets. While he enjoys furniture privileges, he is respectful; if you tell him "no" or ask him to get down, he will happily curl up on the floor right next to you. Boe saves all of his typical Setter energy for the great outdoors; inside the house, he is calm, not-destructive, and does not bark at the doorbell, people, or noises. He is a fantastic houseguest who is treat-motivated and a quick learner. He comes running when you call his name and clap your hands.

Because Boe spent his first seven years living outside, he is still perfecting his house manners. He is great in his crate—happily resting there for 2 to 4 hours during the day when his humans are gone and sleeping beautifully crated through the night. He has only had one true accident in 5 weeks, though he does still have an instinct to hike his leg and this happens less than once a day. He wears a belly band like a champ to prevent accidents, and he is consistently improving as he adapts to his new, structured indoor routine.

Boe doesn’t guard resources and he doesn't mind sharing food or toys with other dogs and he will happily swap and finish up bowls with his sister Roz when she is finished and allows him to share.

When it's time to head outside, Boe turns on his true English Setter engine. He loves to self-exercise and with his foster parents nearby, he happily spends 4-6 hours a day enjoying the fresh air, patrolling the yard, and resting on the porch. He has even figured out how to use a doggie door that leads to a climate-controlled outside shop! He has shown no interest in climbing or jumping fences and has a low escape drive, though standard safety precautions keeping gates and doors closed should be taken since he can be curious and most Setters will happily take the opportunity for a “run about” if given the opportunity.

Boe’s prey drive is medium/typical for a field ES and he is endlessly amused by the little things, whether he is "hunting" frogs near the pool, tracking crickets in the mulch, or running through the grass to stir up the birds. While he isn't fond of swimming, he did accidentally fall into the pool early on and was successfully taught how to find the stairs, and he can now safely navigate his way out on his own. Boe is good in the car and a calm passenger with no history of car sickness.

Boe is social and friendly with everyone he meets and he loves attention. He can often be found underfoot and between your legs. He recently enjoyed a party with 20 guests, as well as a 5-6 hour visit with grandchildren aged 16, 8, and 2, and he was completely engaged, gentle, and friendly with all of them.

Boe is great with other dogs. He can be a bit submissive if another dog gets pushy. He has a blast engaging in energetic, friendly games of "tag" through the open fence line with the neighbor's Vizsla, Golden Doodle, and German Shepherd. Cats are unknown but Boe’s mother Cassie has proven to be cat safe, and they lived on the same property his entire life.

Boe would make a good first English Setter for a family new to the breed. While we think he would be content as an only dog (provided he gets plenty of human attention) or with a dog of a similar personality, he is already

Puppy · Female · Chihuahua / Pug (short coat) · 12 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Welcome Josie to CCPAL Rescue. Josie is a Chug (Chihuahua/Pug) puppy. She weighs 4 pounds and is 9 weeks old. She will be a small dog full grown. She should be 12 pounds or less. She is very sweet and has an adorable rounded head. She likes to be held, is good in a crate, goes on a wee pad and loves to play with toys. She was born at the Rescue. They took in a stray female and she was pregnant. This means the puppies get lots of attention and are very used to being in a loud and rowdy environment. Josie would be best in a home that the person doesn’t work all day every day. She needs to finish up her puppy training. Social pups make great adults and now is the time for her to spend time with her family and to go places and let people pet her. She is an AMAZING puppy. She would be fine with children. Due to her small size, we would like children to be 8 or older. She is getting her puppy vaccines and will have 3. She will then be ready for spay and adoption. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

11. Blanca

Adult · Female · Rat Terrier (short coat) · 12 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Welcome Blanca to CCPAL Rescue. She is a 2 year old Rat Terrier mix. She came in from a hoarding situation. We received 3 dogs from this case. One was adopted already and one had to go to a specialized trainer in another Rescue. Blanca has started opening up and allowing people to pet her and hold her. She never got any attention in her original home, the hoarder. She is good with other dogs and causes no issues. She is kennel trained and her response to being afraid is to run and hide. She is a timid girl and not the social butterfly. She would be perfect with a person that is more introverted and wants a pet that is also similar. Blanca would be satisfied being at home with you all the time. A small walk in the yard would be fine. She until now, has not walked on leash. She is learning to do it at our Rescue. She would like a patient owner and a quieter home. An older couple or older single person would be great. Someone with a quieter home. She would be fine kenneled away if you had a party or people over. She is not very vocal and prefers to blend into the woodwork. She is really a great dog for the right family. She is getting her vaccinations, nail trims and will be spayed soon and ready for her forever home. She could be adopted locally in Texas or we could work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. . Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

12. Daisy

Adult · Female · French Bulldog (short coat) · 12 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Welcome Daisy to CCPAL foster program. Daisy is a 4-year Frenchie (French Bulldog). She has been a breeder dog and the breeder is no longer going to use her so she is now looking for her forever home. This awful in our eyes, but we are happy to find Daisy a real forever home where she can be loved and cherished and doted on. She is a wonderful dog. She is good with other dogs, potty trained, not too active, not too vocal and does good with children. She is getting her spay surgery with CCPAL. She is current on vaccinations and will also get her heartworm test. She has lived in a house so she knows the rules and structure of living with a family.

She is beautiful inside and out and we cannot believe anyone could give up a dog this fantastic. We would love someone that knows this breed. She has the shortened nose so this breed cannot tolerate heat well. Anyone that has had a Frenchie knows this. She would be fine with a moderately active family. She can go with children as well. We like them to be 8 or older. She is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally. We can work with one of the wonderful transporter to help her get to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. 13. Pickles

Female · Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Black Mouth Cur (short coat) · 12 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Welcome Pickles to CCPAL Rescue. Pickles is a 2 year old. She is a small Terrier/Black Mouth Cur is our best guess. She is a medium sized dog that weighs 28 pounds. She is full grown and she was found on the streets with her puppies. She is a great momma dog. She is friendly to people she knows and trusts and warms up slowly to new people. She will be a great alert dog for an older couple or someone that is home alone and wants to feel that the dog has your back. She has never shown aggression but she does bark when things are out of the ordinary or someone she doesn’t know has arrived. She would be best for at least a moderately active family. I would think someone with a more quiet home that wants a loyal companion to join the group. She has a short coat and not a huge shedder. She is good with other dogs and has been off leash with a number in play groups here at CCPAL. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. She is getting spayed soon, all her vaccinations, heartworm negative and will be ready for her forever home in a week or two. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. 14. Maverick

Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Dachshund (short coat) · 12 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Welcome Maverick to CCPAL Foster Program. Maverick is a 4-year-old Chiweenie. He weighs about 19 pounds. He is good on a leash, good in a car. He is potty trained and very loyal to his person. He knows “go for a walk”, “stop”, “leave it”, “It’s the neighbor” and a few other commands. He is in a home and the owner is having some very big financial issues and need to find Maverick a new home. Maverick has some allergies to food and the food that he can is a Duck and Potato kibble. He has some allergies to grass. He has taken Apoquel successfully to handle the allergies. He warms up slowly and is very loyal and bonded once he has bonded. He would be great for a senior couple or single wanting a companion. A nice yard for him to get exercise in would be nice or someone that could have the time to take him on a couple of walks would be great. He isn’t the social butterfly that some dogs are so a matching owner would be the best fit. He would be a great dog to alert you to someone at the door or something being off in the environment. He is good on walks and would help a senior be more active. He is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. He could go with children but we would like them to be teens. I think a quieter home would be best for this boy. His adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. 15. Priscilla Prissy

Puppy · Black Mouth Cur / Labrador Retriever (medium coat) · 12 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Welcome Priscilla “Prissy” to CCPAL Rescue. Priscilla is a 10-week-old sweetie. Lab/Black Mouth Cur mix is our best guess. She should be a medium sized dog 28 pounds or less. He is sturdy and has longer legs then her stubby legged brother. Her mom is Pickles and she is also medium sized. She is getting lots of attention at the Rescue and she is social, good with other dogs, good in a crate, learning wee pad manners and is over all a very nice puppy. The kennel staff usually bathe and clip toenails on a regular basis as well. She will be fine with grooming. She has a soft fluffy coat and adorable expressions. She was found as a stray with her mom who is Pickles. She is getting all 3 sets of his puppy vaccinations and will be spayed soon. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Prissy would be fine in a family with children. We like them to be 8 or older. A puppy is always best with someone that is not gone all day every day. A puppy needs to bond with his humans and to go places to remain and grow up to be a well-rounded dog. Priscilla will also need to finish her puppy training. She would be great in a doggy daycare as she gets time playing off leash with other puppies her size. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. 16. Toby

Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Dachshund (short coat) · 12 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Welcome Toby to CCPAL Rescue. Toby is a 6-year old Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix). Toby lost his owner in death and the immediate family live on a farm with farm animals. They worry about his safety with those animals so they turned him over along with another dog for rehoming. We are happy to have Toby. He is outgoing, good on a leash, good with people including strangers. He weighs 13 pounds and is potty trained. He is learning to be crated and is a lovely dog. He will be with us while we look for his new forever home. He is neutered and will get all his vaccines all current while he awaits his new family to fall in love with his photo and video online.

He is good with other dogs and would be fine with another dog or as an only dog. He is here in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washinton, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. He would be fine with a moderately active family and would be a great companion for a walker. He loves to walk. He would also be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older. His adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

17. Sean

Young · Terrier / Dachshund (short coat) · 12 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Welcome Sean to CCPAL Rescue. He is a 10-pound small Terrier/Dachshund mixed pup. He is 4 months old. His mom is Monica. Monica was on the street as a stray. We took her in to find out she was pregnant. The puppies were born in our Rescue. They have gotten lots of interaction. They are very social and friendly. Sean is one of the middle- sized boy pups. He looks the most similar to his mom. He is good with other dogs and loves to play in the water. He is cute and has the most adorable expressions. He likes being held and is very trusting of all people. He should be 15 to 18 pounds is our best guess full grown.

He should be small enough to take with you in a doggy sling or bag. He is a fun pup to pet because of his coat. He is full of personality and very good with his litter group. He goes on a wee pad and is good in a crate. He likes all people and is not shy around strangers. Her mom is 15 pounds. Our guess would be 10 to 12 for him. He is not a big shedder. He will make some lucky family a good pet. Anyone who adopts a puppy should not work all day every day because a puppy needs to be with their family and not home alone all day. He needs to finish up his puppy training. He will be a great dog for a social person wanting a matching puppy personality. He would be fine in a smaller condo size yard. He would be fine with other dogs. He can go with children. We like them to be 8 or older. He is getting neutered, vaccinated and he will be ready for his forever home. He is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally. We can also use one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. His adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states. Welcome Butter to CCPAL Rescue. He is a 2 year old Chihuahua mixed dog. He weighs 12 pounds. He loves sitting on your lap and he is good with all the different personalities of dogs at the Shelter. He has slow growing Tcell lymphoma. The treatment would be hard on him and our vet says he has a number of very good years ahead of him. He is good on a leash. He is fine with strangers and all the small dogs at the Rescue. He would be good in a doggy daycare situation and is very social. He would be great traveling to Starbucks or any other place because he likes people. He would be fine being a companion dog at home too.

A smaller condo sized yard would be fine. He would be perfect for a senior or senior couple looking for a nice little companion dog that doesn’t require much to be happy. He loves to sit on your lap so if you want a snuggle bunny, he is your dog. He is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. 19. Daisey Mae

Puppy · Female · Chihuahua / Dachshund (short coat) · 12 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Welcome Daisey Mae to CCPAL Rescue. She came in with her mom Layla. We think her breed is Chiweenie. She is 13-weeks old and she weighs about 5 or 6 pounds. We think full grown would be 25 pounds or less. She is beautiful and looks a lot like her mom. She was fun to take photos of at the photo shoot. She is good in a crate, good with other dogs, playful and sweet. She is smart and trusting of people. She would be great with a family that is moderately active to highly active. She would be best with someone that is not gone all day every day and can spend some time with their puppy to keep her social and to finish up her puppy training.

She would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older as older children can be taught to respect and be careful with their dog. She is sturdy and would make a great walking companion. She is social and would be fine taking her out places that have lots of people or a doggy daycare. She is up on her vaccinations and will be spayed soon and ready for her forever home. She is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states. 20. Foxy Lady

Young · Female · Corgi / Cairn Terrier (medium coat) · 12 mi from Fair Oaks Ranch

Welcome Foxy Lady to CCPAL Rescue. She is a Corgi/Cairn is our best estimate on her breed. She is 15 months old. She has a longer coat and weight about 25 pounds. She should be full grown and if anything may fill out some. She will be a small dog full grown. She is good with other dogs, good in a crate and getting used to Rescue life. She has an adorable underbite and her teeth are in great shape. We think her best home would be with someone who has had a Corgi and has the time to finish her training. I would say moderate to active family is best. She could be with kids. We think 8 or older is best.

She likes the women at the shelter and warms up more slowly to new people. She readily accepts women. She will be worked with on her leash manners and she has ridden in the car without problems. Her best home would be a more quiet one that she can get more one on one attention. She would be great for an older couple, or single person that wants a nice companion. She doesnt seem to be the social butterfly but very content with being home. If you think this sounds like a good fit for you, put in an application. She is a wonderful dog and a head turner for sure. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Adopting a dog in Fair Oaks Ranch

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
