2. Petey
Senior · Male · Terrier · 11 mi from Frisco

Meet Petey, a 5-year-old gentle giant who is happiest simply being close to his people. Petey is loving, affectionate, and incredibly easy to bond with. His love language is absolutely "your shadow," and if you are nearby, that is exactly where he wants to be. He is potty trained, crate trained, leash trained, and currently lives with two small dogs who he loves to play with. In his previous home, he also lived successfully with five cats, and he does well with kids too.
Read more about Petey
Petey has a nice balance of playful energy and calm downtime. He enjoys gentle wrestling, chasing around the yard, going for walks, chewing on bones or toys, and joining in whenever another dog wants to play. Once the fun is over, he settles easily and is perfectly happy lounging on his mat as long as his family is nearby. He is inquisitive, loves a new adventure, and seems to feel most secure when he knows he is part of the action.
Petey's story has had some unexpected turns. He was once scheduled for euthanasia at Dallas Animal Services before being adopted, but when his previous owner later lost his housing and could no longer care for him, Petey once again found himself needing a safe place to land. Through it all, he has remained an incredibly gentle, loving dog who bonds easily with both people and other pets.
His ideal home would include plenty of companionship, room to play, regular walks, lots of snuggle time, and possibly another dog or two to share life with. If you are looking for a sweet, social dog who wants nothing more than to love his family and be included in everything, Petey may be your perfect match.

4. Cooper
Senior · Male · Rottweiler · 11 mi from Frisco

Cooper came into his foster's care after his previous owner could no longer care for him, and since then, he's been getting a chance to experience more of what life as a beloved family dog can look like. He's curious, affectionate and an absolute goofball who wants nothing more than to be close to his people. In fact, Cooper's love language is definitely quality time if you're looking for a dog who will happily be your shadow, you've found him.
Read more about Cooper
At home, Cooper loves pets, attention and simply laying next to his people. He has a moderate energy level, so he enjoys getting outside to explore and play but is equally happy settling in for some downtime afterward. He's treat-motivated, enjoys toys and is already potty and leash trained.
Cooper has also done well around other dogs with appropriate supervision. He is currently intact, so some of his behaviors around other dogs may change once he is neutered. His foster has noticed that Cooper can become fearful if voices are raised or hands are lifted

5. Ophelia
Senior · Female · Pekingese / Mixed · 11 mi from Frisco

Meet Ophelia: One-Eyed, Opinionated & Officially Retired
At 9 years young, Ophelia has entered her retirement era - and frankly, she thinks she's earned it.
This charming Pekingese mix is looking for a home where the schedule is flexible, the laps are plentiful, and no one expects her to participate in unnecessary nonsense. Ophelia enjoys relaxing, being adored, and sharing her opinions when she feels they are relevant. (Spoiler: she generally feels they are relevant.)
Read more about Ophelia
Ophelia is an independent woman who knows what she wants. She doesn't need constant attention, but when she decides it's time for affection, she makes an excellent lap dog. Her ideal family will understand that sometimes a lady just needs a little space to herself - and sometimes she needs your entire lap immediately.
Yes, Ophelia only has one eye, but don't worry: she can still spot foolishness from across the room. We think it simply adds to her distinguished, slightly mysterious charm.
Like many sophisticated ladies of a certain age, Ophelia takes a few daily medications to keep her feeling her best. She considers them part of her wellness routine and would appreciate a personal assistant willing to keep up with her regimen.
If your idea of the perfect companion is a low-key senior lady with a big personality, an independent streak, and excellent lap-dog potential, Ophelia may be ready to grace your home with her presence.
Ophelia isn't looking for someone to change her. She's looking for someone who appreciates the masterpiece she already is.

6. Remi
Senior · Female · Terrier · 11 mi from Frisco

Meet Remi, a 9-year-old sweetheart who somehow manages to be calm, goofy, gentle, and full of joy all at once. Her foster family describes her as truly "the sweetest dog," and it is easy to see why. Remi loves being around her people, meeting new friends, lounging nearby while you go about your day, and soaking up the sunshine. When she comes back inside nice and warm from sunbathing, her foster family lovingly calls her their "baked potato."
Read more about Remi
Remi is potty trained, crate trained, leash trained, and rides well in the car. She does wonderfully with kids, including toddlers, and is gentle, polite, and never pushy. She also does well with other dogs, especially calm dogs her size or smaller, and after a little time to warm up, she is happy to play and share toys. Cats are still an unknown. Indoors, Remi is quiet and easygoing. She rarely barks, settles into household routines easily, and is perfectly happy napping in whatever room her people are in. At night, she likes sleeping nearby on her big fluffy dog bed, complete with the occasional snore and little dream "woofs."
Don't let her age fool you, because Remi is still active, healthy, and always up for a walk, some yard time, or a new adventure. She is also a major treat fan and performs an adorable little "dinner dance" when mealtime rolls around.
Remi's story almost ended far too soon when she landed on the euthanasia list at Dallas Animal Services. Her foster family saw her profile, said "absolutely not," and brought her home. Since then, she has shown them just how special she is. Loving, joyful, goofy, polite, and endlessly sweet, Remi is the kind of dog whose smile and helicopter tail can brighten an entire room.
Her foster family jokes that she does not have a "you're in trouble" full name. Instead, she has a "you are being ridiculously precious" name: "Remitha Marie". If you are looking for a gentle companion who wants to be your shadow, soak up the sun, and love your family with her whole heart, Remi may be exactly who you have been waiting for.

7. Layla
Senior · Female · Terrier · 11 mi from Frisco

Meet Layla, an 11-year-old sweetheart who has been through more change than any senior dog should have to face, yet somehow remains gentle, loving, and completely open to everyone she meets. After her owner passed away, Layla and her two brothers were surrendered to a shelter. Her brothers were adopted, leaving Layla behind until a volunteer met her, fell in love, and made sure she had a safe place to land with Dallas Pets Alive.
Read more about Layla
Layla is truly an easygoing girl. She is potty trained, walks beautifully on leash, loves car rides, and enjoys a leisurely stroll of about a mile before settling in for one of her many naps. She is wonderful with people, has done great with children and dogs of all sizes, and even calmly walks away when another dog is less than friendly. Her previous notes recommend a home without cats. Layla may also be experiencing some hearing loss, but she takes it all in stride. She does not enjoy being crated, though she does wonderfully free roaming or relaxing in a bedroom while her people are away.
More than anything, Layla wants to be close to her people. She is a professional shadow with a velvet-soft coat, a gentle spirit, and just enough playful energy left for toys and the occasional burst of silliness between naps. After losing her person, her home, and her canine brothers, Layla deserves to spend the rest of her golden years knowing she is home for good.

17. Greta
Senior · Female · Terrier · 11 mi from Frisco

Greta's a grand ol' gal who enjoys a calm day today, tomorrow, and for years to come. This ten-year-old lady enjoys dogs, cats, and kids who are equally relaxed. She'll play with her ball in the yard, which will be followed by a fabulous nap.
In her history, Greta developed a taste for food - any food, every food - and is notorious for sneaking into cabinets and cans to get her paws on some. She's good in her crate and it's a smart place to keep Greta out of her mischievous ways when she's home alone. Softer foods may be best for her senior teeth.

Greta's vision is limited so being close to her family keeps her calm and feeling safe. Her bright smile every morning brightens her home as much as the rising sun. During her sunset years, having a cozy, calm, and caring home will bring her as much joy as she'll bring you.

18. Janet
Senior · Female · Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 11 mi from Frisco

At 12 years young, Janet has perfected the art of the good life: slow sniffy walks, cozy beds, and staying as close to her favorite human as physically possible.
Janet is a calm, gentle senior girl who loves everyone she meets. She's good with dogs, pretty much ignores cats, and is great with kids. She's potty trained, crate trained, walks beautifully on leash, and has absolutely no interest in making life complicated. Toys? Eh. A cheeseburger? Maybe. Curling up in bed with you and following you from room to room? Now we're talking.
Read more about Janet
Janet was once sitting in a shelter with no interest and at the top of the euthanasia list. Thankfully, her foster saw that sweet face and knew she still had so much life and love left to give. She arrived nervous and unsure, but watching her learn to trust again has been pretty special. Now she sleeps in her foster's bed, curls up in their lap, and happily follows them everywhere.
Janet doesn't need much from her forever home. Give her a comfy place to sleep, a leisurely sniff walk, plenty of cuddles, and a human to call her own. She'll take care of the rest by being your sweetest little shadow.

Golda is available for ADOPTION OR FOSTER. Golda is currently in a foster home call the shelter to schedule a meet and greet!
At 9 years old, Golda is proof that senior dogs still have so much love to give. She came to the Richardson Animal Shelter after concerned citizens found her unable to walk and covered in sores. Thanks to weeks of dedicated care, she's now walking, thriving, and ready to find her forever home!
If you're looking for a dog with a big heart who just wants to share love and joy, Golda is waiting for you. She deserves a home where she can be cherished and cared for.
Read more about Golda
Golda is a sweet, gentle girl who is potty trained, walks well on a leash, and has a calm, loving personality. She loves spending time with her people and will make a wonderful companion. She has also met a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old and did wonderful with both, showing just how gentle and loving she is with children.
Golda does have a medical condition: squamous cell carcinoma in situ, a type of skin cancer. While her tumors may continue to grow, they are not expected to spread beyond the skin. She recently had the largest tumors removed to keep her comfortable, and future monitoring will be important. Golda should avoid spending time in the sun, but otherwise she's happy and full of life.
Golda would do best as the only pet in the home and should not live with other dogs or cats. She's ready to soak up all the love and attention for herself.
After everything she has been through, Golda deserves a safe, loving home where she can finally relax, be loved, and be spoiled. ❤️

22. Knox
Senior · Male · Shepherd / Mixed · 11 mi from Frisco

Knox is a fella' that knows what he wants, and what he wants is a forever home with lots of cuddles and lots of treats! He's not too picky either! He'll take a place with or without kids. He'll cuddle you on the couch, on the floor, on the go, wherever you want is good with him.
For treats? Just about anything will pass the test as long as it's good. He likes toys, but they're not the love of his life. He likes making new friends, both canine and human, but isn't prone to playing too rough. More of a socializing in a chill way sort of guy as opposed to the bloke who joins a league sport.

Every once in a while, a dog comes along who quietly works his way into your heart.
Mason is that dog.
He is the kind of companion who simply wants to be by your side through every moment life has to offer. Once you meet him, it's almost impossible to imagine life without him.
Read more about Mason
Mason is a breathtaking Golden Retriever mix with a gorgeous soft fluffy coat, an adorable curly tail, and the sweetest expression you've ever seen. People often stop to admire how handsome he is, but it's his incredible personality that truly steals the show.
Affection is Mason's love language. He lives for snuggles, belly rubs, and simply being close to his people. If he needs a little extra attention, he'll gently put his paws around you for one of his famous hugs. It's impossible not to smile when this big teddy bear decides it's cuddle time.
Mason also has plenty to say! He's quite the conversationalist and isn't shy about "talking" to his family. When it's time to go outside, he'll happily let you know by chatting with you as he heads toward the door. His funny little conversations are just one more thing that makes him so incredibly lovable.
When playtime rolls around, Mason is always ready for an adventure. He loves every kind of toy and will enthusiastically chase after a ball or his favorite stuffed toy. Bringing it back? That's not really his style! Mason's favorite game is getting you to chase him instead, turning every game of fetch into a fun game of tag that will have everyone laughing.
If there's water involved, Mason is even happier. Sprinklers, the garden hose, splashing around on a warm day—he absolutely loves it all. Watching him play in the water is guaranteed to brighten your day.
And if you're wondering how to win Mason's heart even faster, it's simple: boiled eggs! They're his all-time favorite treat, and he'll happily show off his wonderful manners for one.
Speaking of manners, Mason is an absolute gentleman. He's fully house trained; crate trained and walks beautifully on a leash. Whether you're exploring the neighborhood, heading to the park, or relaxing at home, Mason is an easy companion who simply enjoys sharing life with his family.
Mason is looking for a home where he can truly thrive. He will need a cat-free home, as cats just aren't his thing. He also prefers female canine companions that are his size or larger. That said, Mason would also be perfectly happy being your one and only dog, where he can soak up every bit of love and attention all for himself.
More than anything, Mason is searching for someone to love forever. Someone who wants a loyal shadow, a cuddle buddy, a walking partner, a conversation companion, and a best friend all wrapped into one incredibly handsome dog.
If your home feels like it's missing something, it might just be Mason. He's the kind of dog who doesn't simply become part of the family—he becomes part of your heart.

27. Fleetwood
Senior · Male · German Shepherd Dog / Mixed · 11 mi from Frisco

Hi, I'm Fleetwood! I'm a sweet old man looking for my final forever home. I may have a few aches and pains, but that won't stop me from playing fetch with you all day long. When I'm not being your shadow, I'm usually either snoozing nearby or happily picking up and dropping a tennis ball over and over until someone throws it for me.
Read more about Fleetwood
I do great on a leash and I'm not bothered by squirrels or rabbits at all. There are just a couple things I take very seriously, I do not like other dogs while I'm on leash or people on bicycles, and I will absolutely protect you from them with my life. Despite that, I really do love my walks and would be happiest with a couple short walks each day.
I haven't been exposed to other dogs, cats, or children off leash yet, so my foster mom isn't sure how I'd feel about them in a home environment.
I'm diagnosed with spondylosis and take pain medication, but don't let that fool you! I'm still mobile, playful, and love being involved in whatever you're doing. I can go up and down stairs, go on walks, and play fetch just like any other dog... I'm just a little clumsy sometimes! I'm also a pretty lazy guy overall and love naps and couch cuddles. I never get on the couch without permission, but when invited up I'll happily curl up right beside you.
Oh, and I do great in a crate too! My foster mom works during the day, but I'm perfectly content snoozing and playing with my Kong until she gets home.
All I really want is a comfy place to rest, someone to throw my tennis ball, and a family to love for the rest of my days.

Adopting a senior dog in Frisco
Older dogs are usually calm, affectionate and happy with shorter walks, which makes them a good match for older adults and first-time dog owners.
Ask the rescue about the dog's health and vet history. Many rescues charge less to adopt a senior dog.
Many small dogs live to 15 or older, so a senior dog can still be part of your family for years.
