Puppy (3 months 1 day) · Female · German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat) · 16 mi from Newark

Meet Mila! A Little Survivor with a BIG Future!

Mila’s story started in the most heartbreaking way. At just 2 weeks old, this sweet German Shepherd mix puppy was dumped in a box in rural South Texas in August, when temperatures are absolutely scorching. These tiny babies were helpless and far too young to survive on their own, but thankfully, someone found them just in time and took them home to foster until our rescue could step in.

Read more about Mila

Thanks to that amazing act of kindness, Mila and her siblings got their chance to live! ❤️ They were bottle-fed around the clock, lovingly transitioned to puppy gruel, and are now 8 weeks old, thriving, chubby, healthy, and full of puppy goodness!

And the best part? Their foster mom says these are the BEST foster puppies she has ever had! They are incredibly social, playful, smart, and soaking up everything the world has to offer. Mila is growing into a happy little girl who is ready to take her next big step toward a forever family.

These babies have come so far in such a short time, and we want their next chapter to be just as wonderful as their rescue story deserves. We are looking for foster homes and foster-to-adopt homes to help Mila and her siblings continue to grow and prepare for their forever families.

Could you be the safe landing place this little girl needs? Whether you can open your home temporarily or think Mila might be your future best friend, you could make all the difference in her world.

6. Odin

Adult (3 years 2 months) · Male · Alaskan Malamute / Mixed (long coat) · 16 mi from Newark

Meet Odin!

Big, fluffy, handsome—and an absolute sweetheart! ❤️

Odin is a 3-year-old Alaskan Malamute who is one BIG boy with plenty of floof to go around! This handsome guy came to us from the Fort Worth shelter, and honestly, we’re still trying to figure out how such a well-behaved dog ended up there!

Odin is a total gentleman in the house. He is crate trained and potty trained, although he doesn’t need a crate because he is on his very best behavior when left home alone. He gets along wonderfully with his foster family’s two other Huskies and loves meeting new people.

Read more about Odin

One of Odin’s favorite pastimes is sitting on the ledge in his backyard, watching the world go by. He’ll just sit there taking it all in like he has very important business to observe.

He walks well on a leash, although this big guy can occasionally put a little muscle into his walk when something catches his attention. Nothing unusual for a big Malamute!

And then there’s the pool… Odin accidentally took a little dip and quickly discovered that a swimming pool is apparently bottomless! He has decided that was enough aquatic adventure for one lifetime and has no intention of repeating the experience. LOL!

Odin is the kind of dog who is easy to love. He’s sweet, well-mannered, social, and just a big lovable ball of floof looking for the family he can finally call his own.

Odin is currently accepting applications for his forever home! ❤️

Adopting a dog in Newark

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
