1. Windy October
4 Years · Female · Dachshund / Mixed · 36 mi from Redwood

Windy October is a pretty wire haired dachshund mix. She is the mama to Dusty and Gusty. She and her family were owner surrendered to an animal shelter. Windy is about 4 years old and while she is shy, she is very loving and loves to be held and cuddled. She will let you carry her like a baby all day if you want to! She likes to be in the same room as you are and will follow you around.

Windy loves being outside and sunbathing. She also likes sleeping on the couch beside you. She likes to play with her foster Mom and also likes to play with the other dogs in her foster home!! Windy is like a puppy, very playful! The foster Mom thinks she would be good with kids since she has gotten so calm and has been very sweet. She is no longer so scared at her foster home, she just may need a little time to trust her new environment!
Windy has now been spayed and her puppies are old enough to be without her now. They will be going into their new homes very soon.

2. Cosmos Finn
2 Years · Male · Dachshund / Mixed · 36 mi from Redwood

Meet Cosmos Finn. He and several others were were surrendered to a shelter. One of our volunteers saw them and asked if we could help. Cosmos is estimated to be 2 years old. and only 12 pounds. They are believed to be wire haired dachshund mixes. We were told possibly wire haired dachshund/schnauzer mixes. Cosmos was pretty shut down when he first went into his foster home but is coming out of his shell and showing his personality. He can be nervous/shy with meeting new people and may try to hide but once he warms up to you he is a love bug! He will be your shadow, he wants to have you in his sight.
Read more about Cosmos Finn
He is good with other dogs and is already playing with the dogs in his foster home. He will just need a home that gives him a little time to warm up and to understand he has been through a lot but is totally worth the wait. Another playful confident dog would help him to trust quicker and someone that is home more often would be good too. Cosmos is housebroken, loves snuggles and his kennel is his safety place when needed. He might be ok with older kids that will give him a little time, not sure he would do well with littles. If he sounds like the dog for you, put your application in today!

I came from the very south edge of Texas. I love taking walks, cuddling in a pile of blankets, snuggling with my human, riding in the car, playing with toys, wrestling with fellow foster dogs, and getting treats! I can sleep in a kennel or squish beside my human in the big bed. I love making new friends whether they be human, canine, or feline. And I'm a true gentleman in a harness and leash and do my business outside.

5. Bailey Boo
Adult (3 years 7 months) · Female · Dachshund (short coat) · 36 mi from Redwood

Bailey Boo is a 6-year-old sweetheart with a big personality and a whole lot of love to give! At 18.5–19 lbs, she's a little on the fluffy side (okay, maybe a lot!), so she's officially starting her weight-loss journey to get down to her goal weight.
Read more about Bailey Boo
Bailey knows what she likes and isn't afraid to show it! She does well in large crowds and will try to steal some attention from you or your guests! She's an absolute sweetheart and cuddle bug with the people she knows and loves. With that being said, she is a little more reserved and may take a little longer to warm up with men. She's great with dogs of all sizes and enjoys having other pups around. She need at least one dog friend that will keep her company when you are busy or gone from home. She's also comfortable sleeping in a kennel with other dogs or alone and seems to do well with potty training so far!
We're still figuring out how she feels about cats, but she may be a little intimidated by them. Bailey is looking for a loving home that understands she may need a little time to warm up. In return, you'll get a devoted little girl who loves attention, enjoys the company of other dogs, and has plenty of personality to keep you smiling!

7. Chloe Rae
Adult (9 months) · Female · Dachshund / Basset Hound / Mixed (short coat) · 36 mi from Redwood

Chloe Rae is an 9-month-old puppy who needed a miracle - and got one. After spending over eight agonizing hours trapped in a ditch, a hero rescuer brought her to safety, and arrangements were quickly made to bring her to DDRTX.
Read more about Chloe Rae
Following a long trip from South Texas, Chloe Rae went straight to our vet. Along with her puppy shots, microchip, and heartworm preventative, her X-rays revealed the source of her severe pain and limp: multiple pelvic fractures and a broken femur. To give her the best chance at a pain-free life, she underwent a Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) surgery after letting her fractures heal for a month. Her surgery was a success. We know what you're thinking... but we believe she is a "bashund" - basset on the outside, dachshund on the inside! At 22 pounds of pure sweetness, Chloe Rae loves cuddling, exploring, and playing with her foster dog brother (a DDRTX alum!) and foster cat sister. She’s already learned to sit, wait patiently for her meals, walk nicely on a leash, and sleep soundly in her kennel (though she certainly won't turn down a nap in the big bed). She is still working on housetraining. Since she has come into rescue, she was confined with limited movements until surgery and then again while recovering. She was confined for awhile and we had to give her time to heal before worrying about everything else. She has learned so much already!

8. Coco Button
Senior (15 years 3 months) · Male · Dachshund (short coat) · 36 mi from Redwood

Look at this handsome frosty face! My name is CoCo Button, I weigh in at 8 lbs and I'm about 15 years old, but I'm young at heart!
I came to DDR after my mom was no longer able to care for me. My foster mom says I'm about the sweetest, most calm little guy she's ever seen. I have lots going for me....I'm house trained and crate trained, I can either sleep in the big bed or on my floor bed. I don't much care for playing with toys....I'm much more interested in my snacks! I get along with other pups but I'm not sure about cats. I would love to be in a home where someone is home much of the time as this is what I'm used to.

9. Rio Miles
Adult (2 years 3 months) · Male · Dachshund / Mixed (short coat) · 36 mi from Redwood

Rio Miles is a 13 pound Chi-weenie with the heart of a puppy and enough love to last a lifetime. Although the vet estimates he's around 2 years old, you'd never know it from his playful, goofy personality and endless enthusiasm for life. Rio loves to play with his toys--especially anything he can happily chew on--and while he's mostly learned that toys are for chewing, he still occasionally mistakes a sock for one. He's also an expert kisser and will happily shower you with affections until his tongue falls off! He's done great with dogs of all sizes. He knows how to use a dog door. When Rio was found he was underweight and covered in fleas, but those days are behind him.

He absolutely loves food and is already working hard on gaining back to a healthy weight! Just to be prepared to keep an eye on your own meals--Rio firmly believes that whatever you're eating must be just as good as what's in his bowl. If you're looking for a fun, affectionate little sidekick, who will keep you laughing, cover you in kisses and happily curl up with you after a day of play, Rio might just be your perfect match!

11/1/2026Tonka II is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Tonka II! I am a handsome 2 year old brindle boy that is an owner surrender due to my family moving and my breed not being allowed. I am described as friendly, active, noisy, playful, affectionate, and obedient! I currently live with an older lab but am said to be dog friendly with dogs of all sizes. I currently live with 3 kids (ages 19 month to 13 years) and am gentle with the baby and like to play rough with the older kids.

I'm a happy guy and have only met one person I didn't like out of the many people I have been around! I am house trained, crate trained, and can be picky with some of my favorite food depending on the day. At night I sleep with the kid or in the kennel with the other dog. I don't do well sleeping alone and will cry and scratch at the kennel if left by myself to sleep. If the humans must be away, I will cry and bark in the crate and will chew on the furniture if left to roam. When outside I do not attempt to jump fences/gates but am curious what is under the grass and will dig to find out. I am scared of water, baths, being alone, and being left outside too long due to having a heat stroke in the past. Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, chewing on toys, playing fetch, toys, being outside, cuddles, love, smiling when I want something, hitting the humans with my paws when I want something, nudge and paw the food container when it's time to eat, being in the human's lap, and dog treats! If you think I would make a great addition to your family, contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you!

I am house trained, crate trained, and eat High Point All Life Stages dog food in a slow feeder. At night I sleep in the bed with the humans and if they must be away from the home, I am fine being crated or else I will get into things I shouldn't.

I am a beautiful 1 year old flashy fawn girl that is an owner surrender due to my owner being a truck driver and not having the time for me and life on the road is not ideal for me. I am described as friendly, active, smart, noisy, and playful! I do not live with other dogs but it is said that I am dog friendly. I do not live with cats or kids, so it is uncertain if I am cat or kid friendly. I know basic commands, am house trained, but would need assistance with crate training if that is required in my forever home. I eat Healthy Choice puppy food from Tractor Supply and at night I sleep in the bed or recliner with the humans. I do sleep on my dog bed, but that is a very rare occasion. If the humans must be away, I am good but I have never been left alone for more than 2 hours. When outside I have good behavior and do not dig or attempt to jump fences/gates. I am fearful of fireworks and do not like being told no, getting too hot, or being crated/locked in confined spaces. Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, tire with rope toy, squeaky toys, chewing on plastic bottles, catching water from the hose, sleeping by the humans feet or under the blankets, 'argue' or 'talk back' when I don't' get what I want, playing with dogs my size, and treats! Adopting a dog in Redwood
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
