She's very smart and seems to have potty training down and has not had an accident inside while I've had her. That being said, I do have a doggie door so she can let herself out, but I'm confident she will learn quickly to ask to go out, especially if she as an older dog to show her the ropes. She likes her crate, and will put herself in the crate to nap. I have it in my bedroom and she has not cried at night at all. She sleeps 8 hours without incident. THE MASTADORS: When our rescue partner Washington Health Outreach sent a desperate please from a Washington property with 90+ dogs and several recent litters of Lab Mastiff mixes (aka Mastadors) we had to help. We have taken in 11 and counting. Animal Information: Meet Philo, an estimated 9 month old male Labrador Mastiff mix with a gorgeous sleek brindle and soulful eyes. He is around 70 lbs and growing. He has no aggressive tendencies toward humans and has lived with a large number of other dogs. We will share more info after he decompresses and we get to know him in foster care. Notes: Philo has been staying at our rescue community center while awaiting foster placement.

We pull dogs from kill shelters and place them with fosters or trial adopters. All adoptions have 2 week trial. Adoption donation is made after trial period and certificate of ownership is issued. We also bring animals from owner surrenders into our organization so that they never enter the shelter system. We check references for all applicants and complete home checks. A great deal of our dogs are transported from CA to Seattle once we have found a foster or trial for them.

Applications are accepted online, then a home visit is scheduled unless the potential adopter does not qualify. After the home visit evaluation form is filled in online, we generally approve and the Adoption Team begins trying to match the humans with a "best fit" mal. We send dog bios to the adopter, who agrees to meet or passes on a particular dog. The adoption fee is $300 ($200 for seniors) which we collect at the time of adoption and hold for two weeks (sometimes longer) until the adoption is finalized.

Adopting a dog in Maltby

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
