Dogs for Adoption in Geneva, IL: 20 Dogs Looking for a Home

Atlas is a happy, affectionate boy who truly loves everyone he meets. He does well with other dogs and enjoys having canine friends to play with. He already knows basic commands, and we are continuing to work with him on leash training and calm, slow-approach greetings. Atlas can get a little excited when meeting new people because he just wants everyone to know how happy he is to see them!

Atlas was surrendered to a rural pound when he was around 7–8 months old after his family's circumstances changed. Despite that unexpected start, Atlas has remained a loving, playful, people-friendly boy who is eager to please and ready for his next chapter.

His favorite things include walks, car rides, playing with other dogs, chasing and playing with his ball, and of course plenty of snuggles with his people.

Atlas would do best with a loving, active family who will continue his training, keep him well socialized, and give him plenty of opportunities to learn, play, and be part of the family. With continued guidance and love, Atlas has everything he needs to keep growing into the very best boy he can be.

Could Atlas be the happy, goofy, loving addition your family has been waiting for?

Atlas' adoption fee is $400.00. This includes completed wellness, age appropriate vaccines, and completed spay.

Nova is housebroken and will tolerate a crate, although she’ll be the first to tell you it’s not her favorite place! She walks well on a leash but can be reactive when encountering new or unfamiliar experiences, so she needs a confident, patient adopter who will continue working with her and help her build confidence.

Nova would do wonderfully as the only dog in an active household, where she can soak up all the attention. She can do well with other dogs, but introductions need to be slow, controlled, and thoughtful. Because of her energy level, reactivity, and need for structure, we feel she would be most successful in an adult-only home with no cats.

This girl has plenty of German Shepherd energy and needs room to move! Nova is not a candidate for apartment or condo living and will require a large, securely fenced yard where she can safely exercise and play. An active family who enjoys walks, training, outdoor time, and keeping both her body and brain busy would be a great match.

German Shepherd or similar working-breed experience is strongly preferred. Nova isn't looking for someone who expects a couch potato—she needs someone who appreciates the intelligence, loyalty, energy, and personality that come with the breed.

Nova does have pannus, a chronic eye condition that requires ongoing care. She currently receives two eye medications twice daily. Her future family will need to be comfortable continuing her eye-care routine and veterinary follow-up.

Nova's Ideal Home

Adult-only home

No cats

Preferably the only dog, although another dog may be possible with slow introductions

Large, securely fenced yard

No apartments or condos

Active household

German Shepherd/working-breed experience preferred

Someone willing to continue working on her confidence and reactivity

Committed to her lifelong eye care

Nova may need a little more structure and understanding than the average dog, but for the right person, she has the potential to be an incredibly rewarding companion. If you love German Shepherds and are looking for an active girl to become your loyal sidekick, Nova might just be the one you've been waiting for.

Nova’s adoption fee is $400.00. This includes completed wellness, age appropriate vaccines, and completed spay.

Moose was released from a puppy mill and he is amazing! His personality couldn’t be better. He is approximately 100 pounds, but looks smaller than that. He loves to roam around in the back yard—sniffing everything or just laying in a sunny spot. He really wants to be with his foster family. He loves being petted, butt scratched, ears massaged—he is relishing all the attention he is getting from his foster family. He is very good (and patient) with his 3 and 5 yr old house humans. He is good with other dogs from 7# to 140#. You just can’t ask for better. He crates well at night or if you are leaving the house. He is picking up housebreaking quickly. He is available for adoption. Don’t wait—he will be adopted quickly!

Ella is settling into her routine beautifully. She is eating her meals well and has enjoyed some tasty treats, too! She sleeps quietly through the night, and during the day, she often chooses to retreat to her open crate for a peaceful nap. She seems to appreciate having a cozy space of her own where she can relax and recharge.

Ella is a gentle girl and she will likely be good with children, however, her foster does not have young children. She does enjoy cuddling on her foster mom's lap!

Ella is now potty trained, walks very well on a leash, and enjoys going to the park.

One of Ella’s most endearing qualities is her love for other dogs. She truly lights up when she sees them, and she would do best in a home with another friendly canine companion. Whether her new friend is big or small, having a dog buddy to share her world with would bring Ella so much happiness.

With her gentle nature, curious personality, and sweet disposition, Ella has so much love to give. She is looking for a loving forever home where she can continue to learn, feel safe, and enjoy the companionship of both her people and a special dog friend.

Could Ella be the little companion your heart has been waiting for?

Ella is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housetrained, and spayed. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Hazel is a beauty. She is an even tempered friendly girl. She is not too energetic, but no couch potato either. She likes looking out the window. She barks every now and then, but it never lasts long. Hazel knows her name, will come when called and will "sit" on command. She walks nicely on a leash. Hazel gets along with everyone. She plays nicely with the resident dog in her foster home. She has a beautiful tan coat that will require brushing. She settles into her bed at night by herself. Hazel is a pleasure to have as a companion to both human and dog.

Hazel is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and spayed. She is mostly housetrained with the occasional accident. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.

Blinky is a sweet, gentle girl who is looking for a patient, loving home. Once she feels safe, Blinky is affectionate and loves being petted and staying close to her people.

Blinky is a sensitive girl who can be nervous in new spaces, around loud noises, and when getting into the car. Her crate is her safe place, and she does best when given time and patience to build confidence. She settles well in the car once she’s comfortable.

Blinky slowly learned to make friends with other dogs. She was very nervous at first, but she has made great progress with her foster family’s two dogs and learned how to play and interact without being scared.

Blinky loves going outside and walks well on a leash! She is now potty trained, after very few initial accidents. She will do best with someone who will let her take things at her own pace and give her the reassurance she needs to blossom. She would do great as an only dog but would also be okay with other dogs once she gets comfortable with them. Blinky has not yet been tested with cats or children. Given her nervous tendencies, a home with older/respectful children would be best, if children are present.

Blinky is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housetrained, and spayed. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Julia was abandoned with her brother, Caesar, in a park by her human about 1 month ago. After a short stint at the local animal control as a stray, she and her brother were claimed by a very kind person who knew the dogs and gave them a temporary home to keep them safe until they could find their forever home(s). Julia is a low-key girl but she insists on getting the lion's share of attention when love is being handed out. She is confident and happy, loves naps and people. Julia enjoys children age 10 or older due to her larger size and exuberance. She has not been exposed to cats and is yet to be tested with other dogs other than her brother. She was housetrained but with the upheaval and uncertainty in her life recently, there have been mishaps. With a routine schedule, she should be reliably trained again quickly. She has not yet shown that she understands commands and needs work on leash-walks. She is eager to please and treat motivated, so additional training on these should be a breeze and will be an opportunity to form a solid bond with her person/people! Julia is the leader for her brother, Caesar, when they are together but they can be adopted separately. She is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative. As with all dogs, she will need to be placed on a heartworm preventative during mosquito weather to keep her healthy.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Once your application has been processed, the owner will contact you to arrange a meeting. The owner will be asking for a donation from adopters of $225 each or $375 for both.

Caesar was abandoned with his sister, Julia, in a park by his human about 1 month ago. After a short stint at the local animal control as a stray, he and his sister were claimed by a very kind person who knew the dogs and gave them a temporary home to keep them safe until they could find their forever home(s). Caesar is a sweet, loving guy who stays very close to his person(s) for a sense of security. He is curious and loves chew toys. He is less out-going than his sister and looks to her for confidence at times. Caesar enjoys children age 10 or older due to the sometimes unpredictable behaviors, movements and vocals of younger children. He has not been exposed to cats and is yet to be tested with other dogs other than his sister. He was housetrained but with the upheaval and uncertainty in his life recently, there have been mishaps. With a routine schedule, he should be reliably trained again quickly. He has not yet shown that he understands commands and needs work on leash-walks. He is eager to please and treat motivated so additional training on these should not be difficult, and this is an opportunity to form a solid bond with his person/people and increase his confidence and your enjoyment! Caesar's sister, Julia, is currently his "go-to" for comfort when they are together but they can be adopted separately. Caesar is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative. As with all dogs, he will need to be placed on a heartworm preventative during mosquito weather to keep him healthy.
