3. Skip

Young (2 years 5 months) · Male · Beagle / Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

At just 22 pounds, Skip is full of love and affection! He loves to cuddle and be close to his humans so much that he would live under your skin if he could! Whether you're relaxing on the couch or going about your day, Skip wants to be right by your side. There’s never a dull moment with this sweet guy!

Skip can be a little anxious when meeting new people, but once he feels safe, his loving personality shines through. He is potty trained, knows “sit” and “stay,” and walks on a leash once he has a few minutes to adjust. We believe he is a Jack Russell Terrier mix, and despite his terrier roots, he rarely barks!

Finding the Right Home

Read more about Skip

Skip currently lives with two dogs of different sizes and a toddler. However, finding the right home is especially important because Skip was involved in an incident that resulted in the death of a cat. He needs a home without cats or other small animals. His compatibility with other dogs and children should be carefully assessed to ensure everyone's safety.

Skip will thrive with a patient adopter who understands his anxiety, gives him time to adjust, and helps him feel safe and secure.

A Note About His Health

Skip is currently heartworm positive and receiving ongoing treatment. If you're looking for an affectionate little companion and can provide Skip with the safe, loving environment he needs, he may be your perfect match!

5. Sammy Stings

Young (5 months 27 days) · Male · Hound / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet your new best friend!

If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup, please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application. Our team will review your application, and if it is a good fit, we will be in touch!

At just 5–6 months old and already 45 pounds, this handsome boy is a big bundle of love with one of the sweetest personalities I’ve ever seen in a puppy.

Read more about Sammy Stings

What makes him so special isn’t just his adorable face or oversized paws, but his incredibly gentle, easygoing nature. He’s an old soul in a puppy’s body. While he certainly enjoys playing, exploring, and having his puppy moments, he’s just as happy relaxing beside his people and soaking up their company.

And for being such a young puppy, he’s already got some pretty impressive manners!

Potty trained and doing wonderfully with his house manners!

Crate trained and sleeps through the entire night like a champ!

Walks beautifully on a leash and genuinely enjoys spending time with his people.

Great with other dogs and loves having canine friends!

A friend to everyone! Every person he’s met so far has been greeted with nothing but sweetness.

One of my favorite things about him is how content he is just being part of the family. He doesn’t need constant entertainment or excitement. Sometimes all he wants is to lie down near you, chew on a favorite toy, or quietly watch the world go by.

He’s still a puppy, so he has plenty of growing and learning ahead of him, but he already has such a wonderful foundation. I truly believe he’s going to grow into an incredible companion for someone lucky enough to call him theirs.

Homes with kids 8 and older are preferred - as is a fenced in yard or an active family

The adoption fee of $500 will include spay/neuter, microchip,

age-appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm, and any other necessary medical treatment to ensure

a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe the breed, since our pups all come from shelters, we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed!

9. Esther

Young (1 year 5 months) · Female · English Coonhound / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Esther!

Esther is a petite lemon beagle/foxhound mix with a heart as soft as her coloring. At about 35 lbs. and roughly 1 to 2 years old, this sweet girl is ready to find the family who will help her blossom.

Esther is quite shy. The world still feels big and uncertain to her, and new people, places, and sounds can be a lot for her to take in. But underneath that shyness is an incredibly sweet, people-loving dog. Once she feels safe, her affectionate nature shines through, and she'll quietly win your heart.

Read more about Esther

Esther needs a patient family who will let her move at her own pace and gently show her that the world isn't such a scary place after all. With time, consistency, and kindness, she'll gain the confidence she needs to truly thrive.

Another dog makes all the difference for Esther. She takes comfort and cues from canine friends, so she'll need a playful resident dog in the home to help show her the ropes. As a beagle/foxhound mix, she also has a hound's nose and instincts, so a securely fenced-in yard is a must.

Esther's ideal home:

A patient, understanding family willing to let her adjust at her own pace
Another playful dog in the home
A securely fenced-in yard

If you have the patience and love to help a shy girl discover how good life can be, Esther may be the perfect addition to your family. Submit an application today!

Hazel is a beauty. She is an even tempered friendly girl. She is not too energetic, but no couch potato either. She likes looking out the window. 11. Blinky

Young · Female · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 22 mi from Joliet

Blinky is a 1.5-2 y/o old female Lab mix who weighs in at 40 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $400. If you are still interested, please read more below.

Now that Blinky is comfortable in her foster home, her goofy and fun loving personality is coming out!! Blinky absolutely loves to play with her foster family's dogs, loves to shake toys as hard as she can, and enjoys sprinting around the backyard at top speed. She will take any opportunity to crawl in your lap and smooch your face, and although she prefers to sleep in her crate, Blinky is happy to snooze on the couch cuddled up to you.

Read more about Blinky

Blinky is a sweet, gentle girl who is looking for a patient, loving home. Once she feels safe, Blinky is affectionate and loves being petted and staying close to her people.

Blinky is a sensitive girl who can be nervous in new spaces, around loud noises, and when getting into the car. Her crate is her safe place, and she does best when given time and patience to build confidence. She settles well in the car once she’s comfortable.

Blinky slowly learned to make friends with other dogs. She was very nervous at first, but she has made great progress with her foster family’s two dogs and learned how to play and interact without being scared.

Blinky loves going outside and walks well on a leash! She is now potty trained, after very few initial accidents. She will do best with someone who will let her take things at her own pace and give her the reassurance she needs to blossom. She would do great as an only dog but would also be okay with other dogs once she gets comfortable with them. Blinky has not yet been tested with cats or children. Given her nervous tendencies, a home with older/respectful children would be best, if children are present.

Blinky is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housetrained, and spayed. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! 12. March

Adult (3 years 1 month) · Male · Boxer / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Hi, my name is
March
!

I'm a 3.5-year-old 70lb sweetheart looking for my forever family. If you're searching for a loyal best friend and a professional cuddle buddy, I might be your perfect match! I absolutely love being close to my people and will happily soak up all the pets and snuggles you have to offer.

When I'm not cuddling, you'll usually find me playing with my favorite squeaky toys or hanging out outside. Being outdoors is my happy place! I love watching over the yard and keeping an eye on everything going on around me.

Read more about March

I'm a good listener, too. I come when called and know my basic commands. I'm eager to please and enjoy spending time with my humans.

I've worked hard to become the confident boy I am today. New things like hardwood floors, elevators, and loud noises used to make me nervous, but with patience and support, I've learned that those things aren't so scary after all. My journey has helped me grow into a brave and resilient dog who keeps getting better every day.

What I'm really looking for is a family to love. In return, I promise endless cuddles, unwavering loyalty, and lots of happy moments together.

Love,
March

Adult (2 years) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Hazel!

Hazel is a sweet, smart, treat-motivated 2 yr old girl who is ready to find her forever family! At approximately 2 years old and around 45 pounds, Hazel is a medium-large German Shepherd mix (best guess) with plenty of personality and lots of love to give.

Hazel loves her people, including kids, and her favorite things include treats, cuddles, zooming around the backyard, spending time with her humans, and keeping an eye on the house. She’s a smart girl who is eager to please and very trainable when treats are involved! She is still working on her manners and may need a reminder not to jump up when she gets excited to see someone.

Read more about Hazel

Hazel is potty trained, does well on a leash, and is comfortable sleeping in a crate, although she’d much rather be close to her people.

One important thing to know about Hazel is that she has a strong prey drive and does not do well with small animals, including small dogs. She will do best in a home without small pets. With slow, appropriate introductions, she can do well with dogs who are similar in size or larger.

If you’re looking for a smart, affectionate girl who will happily trade cuddles and companionship for a few tasty treats, Hazel may be your perfect match!

Young (6 months) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Tilly!

Tilly is a 6-month-old orange and white terrier (born mid-March 2026) who is 8 pounds of pure delight! This charming, bright, and wonderfully silly girl is the definition of social. She loves other dogs and thrives on playful interaction, but she's also quite independent and happy to entertain herself with toys or a good game of fetch. Tilly is a bundle of energy — she loves car rides, exploring the backyard, and those glorious moments of running full-speed zoomies — but she knows how to balance her busy days with cuddle time. Once she's played her heart out, she'll happily curl up for snuggles until the next adventure calls.

Read more about Tilly

Tilly will thrive best in a supervised home with a gentle canine sibling or pack, where she can play and learn with other dogs. A fenced yard is recommended — she's small, fast, and absolutely fearless, which means she needs a secure space to safely burn off that terrier energy. She's currently working on house training, so she'll need patient, consistent guidance as she continues to learn.

If you're ready for a delightful, playful girl who will bring joy and laughter to your home and your pack, Tilly is ready to meet you!

THIS IS A COURTESY POST ONLY. THE SURRENDERING OWNER, NOT A.R.F., IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL INFORMATION PROVIDED, AND FOR COMMUNICATIONS WITH AND APPROVAL OR DENIAL OF APPLICANTS FOR THIS DOG.

Julia is a 4 year old female Red-nosed Pitbull who weighs in at approximately 60 pounds. Her brother, Caesar, is available as well. If you are still interested, please read more below.

Read more about Julia

Julia was abandoned with her brother, Caesar, in a park by her human about 1 month ago. After a short stint at the local animal control as a stray, she and her brother were claimed by a very kind person who knew the dogs and gave them a temporary home to keep them safe until they could find their forever home(s). Julia is a low-key girl but she insists on getting the lion's share of attention when love is being handed out. She is confident and happy, loves naps and people. Julia enjoys children age 10 or older due to her larger size and exuberance. She has not been exposed to cats and is yet to be tested with other dogs other than her brother. She was housetrained but with the upheaval and uncertainty in her life recently, there have been mishaps. With a routine schedule, she should be reliably trained again quickly. She has not yet shown that she understands commands and needs work on leash-walks. She is eager to please and treat motivated, so additional training on these should be a breeze and will be an opportunity to form a solid bond with her person/people! Julia is the leader for her brother, Caesar, when they are together but they can be adopted separately. She is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative. As with all dogs, she will need to be placed on a heartworm preventative during mosquito weather to keep her healthy.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Once your application has been processed, the owner will contact you to arrange a meeting. The owner will be asking for a donation from adopters of $225 each or $375 for both.

Sassy is a
12lb
Terrier mix, approximately two years old. She
will
be shy and jittery when meeting new people, so she’ll need time, patience, and understanding to feel comfortable. Sassy has some fears and insecurities to overcome, but once she learns to trust you, her loving personality truly shines.

Read more about Sassy

This sweet girl is affectionate, playful, and absolutely loves playing fetch. Throw the ball, and she’ll happily bring it right back—and even drop it when asked!
Playing fetch is the best way to introduce Sassy to new people. It provides her with comfort. Her little ball is her warmth.
When she isn’t playing, Sassy enjoys snuggling, chewing her favorite toy, and staying close to her favorite person.
She will follow her person room to room. She has the saddest look when her person leaves the room.

Sassy gets along well with other dogs and cats, but she
prefers to be the
one-and-only. She would do best in a calm home with older children and adopters who understand the needs of shy or sensitive dogs. With time, consistency, and trust, Sassy will become the most lovable and devoted companion.

If you’re ready to help this special little girl come out of her shell, Sassy may be the perfect match for you!

Young (8 months) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Taylor! Taylor is a smart, joyful, and affectionate Terrier puppy born December 14, 2025. She may be a mix with a Great Pyrenees—and she’s 100% lovable! She has a big personality, a playful spirit, and plenty of love to share. Taylor adores people, kids, and other dogs, and her happy, social nature makes her a wonderful companion.

Read more about Taylor

Taylor is an eager learner who loves having a job to do. She already knows commands like sit and down and is learning to wait patiently for her “OK” before enjoying her meals. She thrives with a routine and will even let you know when she thinks it’s time to get back on schedule with her adorable little “talking.”

Taylor is pretty much potty trained and just needs occasional reminders to head outside. As a growing puppy, she is active and curious and will do best with a family ready to provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, chew toys, training, and opportunities to explore.

21. Michelle

Adult · Female · French Bulldog (short coat) · 22 mi from Joliet

Michelle is a 6 year old female Frenchie who weighs in at 20 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $400. If you are still interested, please read more below.

Meet Your New Sweetheart

This sweet lady is a gentle soul who may be a little shy at first, but give her some patience and a little time, and you’ll see her personality blossom. She’s the kind of girl who quietly follows her favorite person around, happy just to be near you.

Read more about Michelle

She does best with soft, calm affection and would love a cozy space of her own where she can retreat and feel safe. She doesn’t need long to open up when she knows she’s in a patient, loving home. Once she does, you’ll have a devoted little companion by your side.

She’s potty trained as long as she gets regular potty breaks, and she walks very nicely on leash. She enjoys short walks and exploring at her own pace. Loud, fast-moving cars can still make her nervous, so she’ll appreciate a little reassurance and understanding while she continues building confidence.

She is wonderfully friendly with children, as well as both dogs and cats, making her a great fit for a home with furry siblings.

Michelle has been treated for heartworm and will have no lasting negative health effects.

If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle companion who will happily follow you from room to room and become your little shadow, this girl is your gal. Give her the patience to come out of her shell, and she’ll reward you with a whole lot of love.

Michelle is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and spayed. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! 23. Jam

Adult (3 years 2 months) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Jam — a 3-year-old, 40-pound Pittie mix with a compact “pocket pittie” build, a big personality, and an even bigger love for people!

Jam is one of those girls who truly enjoys being part of the action. She’s social, affectionate, and happiest when she’s spending time with her people. During her time in Kentucky, she lived around children and did very well with them. She can be a little enthusiastic with her greetings, so we think kids 8+ would be the best fit for this happy, exuberant girl.

Read more about Jam

Jam has also shown that she can do well in a home with other pets. She previously lived successfully with cats and has gotten along with dogs ranging from just 10 pounds all the way up to 110 pounds! She could absolutely be a wonderful addition to a multi-dog household with appropriate introductions.

One thing Jam takes very seriously is backyard security. Squirrels, raccoons, and other little critters definitely get her attention, so she should not live with small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, or similar pets.

What Jam really wants is a family of her own — people who will include her, love her, continue working on her manners, and appreciate her fun, affectionate personality. She has so much love to give and is ready to show someone just how special she is.

Jam is even better in person, and we would LOVE for more families to come meet her. Sometimes all it takes is one meeting to realize you’ve found your dog.

Come meet Jam and see for yourself. Complete an application today — this sweet pocket pittie is ready to find her people!

24. Buddy

Adult (1 year 6 months) · Male · Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Small, spunky, and full of personality, this 1-1/2year-old possible Jack Russell mix male pup is ready to wiggle his way into your heart! Buddy loves toys, zoomies, making new friends, and soaking up attention from everyone he meets. Whether it's a game of fetch or a fun training session, Buddy is excited to be part of the action.

Read more about Buddy

Buddy is house trained; crate trained; and knows the sit command. He sleeps through the night quietly in his crate. He’s working on not jumping when greeting people and walking on a leash. Buddy has been diagnosed with early arthritis in his front leg from an old injury; however, that doesn't stop him from enjoying life. Keeping Buddy at a healthy weight (27 lbs.); on a joint supplement; and balancing activity with rest will help him stay comfortable and happy.

He may not be training for the Dog Olympics, but he's absolutely going for gold in cuddling, making you laugh, and stealing your spot on the couch. If you're looking for a pint-sized comedian with a huge heart, this little guy is ready to be your favorite sidekick. Buddy is dog/cat friendly. He would do best in a household with older respectful kids, if any and a secure fenced-in yard.

26. Mikey

Adult (2 years 4 months) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Don't let his old name fool you. There's nothing spooky about Mikey except how quickly he'll steal your heart (and possibly your shoe). This handsome guy is about 2 years old, weighs around 50 lbs, and is one of the sweetest souls you'll ever meet. He is probably a mix of many breeds, lab, spaniel etc...

Read more about Mikey

Mikey wakes up every morning bursting with joy, and when his people come home, he's so excited he can hardly contain himself. He even greets you with little love nibbles. It took him some time to open up and feel safe, and he's still nervous when new people come into the house. Mikey likes to do things on his own terms, so he needs a patient family who will let him settle in at his own pace. Once he feels secure, he is a total love bug.

Mikey loves to play with his toys, his dog brothers, and even his cat brother! He's always up for a good tussle, but he's very gentle about it. He also does wonderfully with calm, respectful kids.

This boy has a big appetite for life, and an even bigger appetite for food! He's extremely food motivated, which makes him a great student, and his favorite treat in the world is cheese. Mikey is fully potty trained, does well in a crate, and walks nicely on a leash. He isn't destructive, but if a shoe goes missing, check Mikey's spot first. You'll probably find it there.

Mikey's ideal home:

A quiet, calm household. A busy home with lots of noise and people (including kids) coming and going would be too much for him.
At least one other dog to help build his confidence and keep him company.
A patient family willing to let him warm up on his own timeline.
Calm, respectful children are fine. He is cat-friendly too!

If you have a peaceful home and a little patience to give, Mikey will repay you with a lifetime of love (and morning nibbles). Apply today to meet him!

Why adopt an adult dog in Joliet

An adult dog's personality is fully formed, so the rescue can tell you how they are with people, other pets and busy households. Many have lived in foster homes and are already house-trained.

Grown dogs need less supervision than puppies and often know the basics, like sitting and walking on a leash, which suits people who work or have young children.
