Meet Willow – A Petite Pup with a Big, Bright Spirit!
Breed: Boston Terrier mix
Sex: Female
Approximate date of birth: Late July 2026
Current weight: About 5 lbs
Energy level: Medium to high
Willow may be small, but she’s packed with personality! This little sweetheart is curious, clever, and ready to take on the world one tiny paw at a time.
Willow is a quick learner who already understands mealtime manners. Hold her bowl up by your chest and she’ll sit nicely and wait for her food. She’s coming along well with house training too. She uses her pee pad and is going outside more often to potty, especially after she eats.

Car rides are no problem for this girl. She travels like a pro in a doggie booster seat or crate and is happy to tag along wherever you go. She’s doing nicely on leash for her age and is easygoing about baths and nail trims.
Willow loves to play and explore, but once she’s worn herself out, she’s happy to settle in for some sleepy cuddles. She’s not a full-time lap dog, but those snuggly moments are extra sweet.
Willow would thrive with:
A loving, engaged home ready to enjoy the fun of puppyhood and help her learn and grow. Willow loves other dogs and would happily share her home with a friendly canine companion, but she’ll do just as well as an only dog..
Care notes:
Like many small breed puppies, Willow eats 3–4 small meals a day and she uses a slow feeder at mealtimes.
If you’re ready to welcome a pint-sized bundle of fun into your life, submit an adoption application for Willow today!
I kept the same traits as Freya’s bio since they’re fostered together. If any details differ for Willow, like her house training, leash skills, or energy level, let me know and I’ll update the listing.
The adoption fee of $550 will include spay/neuter, microchip,
age-appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm, and any other necessary medical treatment to ensure
a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe the breed, since our pups all come from shelters, we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed!

Breed: Terrier mix
Sex: Female

This clever pup already knows how to sit politely for her meals. Hold her bowl up by your chest, and she’ll plant her bottom and wait. Freya is making great progress with house training. She reliably uses a pee pad and is heading outside more and more to do her business, especially after meals.
Freya is a fantastic travel companion. She rides beautifully in the car in a doggie booster seat or a crate, so she’s ready to join you on outings. She’s doing well on leash for a young pup and takes nail trims and baths in stride.
She has plenty of puppy energy for play, but when she’s finally tuckered out, she’ll happily curl up for some snuggles. She’s not a typical lap dog, but those sleepy cuddles are worth the wait!
Freya would thrive with:
An active, loving home that’s ready for puppy training and play. Freya gets along well with other dogs and would especially benefit from a confident, friendly dog at least 2 years old who can show her the ropes and help her grow into a well-mannered companion.
Care notes:
Like many small breed puppies, Freya currently eats 3–4 small meals a day. She uses a slow feeder at mealtimes.

3. Ava
Puppy (5 months 9 days) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Ava! Ava is so sweet and affectionate, loves to cuddle, and incredibly smart. At just five months old and around 35 lbs, she’s already eager to learn and picks up new commands incredibly quickly. She is potty trained and has down all the basic commands, and is eager to learn more. She loves making her people proud. She loves to play fetch and explore, but is happy to lay down and snuggle with her people too. Like any puppy, Ava has a few typical puppy behaviors and is still learning about the world around her. 6. Charlie
Puppy (4 months 5 days) · Female · Terrier / Border Collie / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Charlie
is a 4-month-old puppy who has been through more in her short life than most dogs face in a lifetime. When she was only a few weeks old, she was attacked by another dog, and her front leg had to be amputated.
Through all of it,
Charlie
has stayed the sweetest, most gentle puppy you will ever meet. She doesn't let anything slow her down. She gets around well on her remaining front leg, though she tires easily, so long walks aren't her thing. She's more of a "patio princess" who loves soaking up the sun outside, then settling in for a cuddle.

Pooh Bear is one happy, cuddly pup!
Born at the beginning of July, Pooh is currently in a foster home with his sister, Roo. Pooh loves playing with his sister, chasing a toy, or romping with the Chihuahua in his foster home. But when playtime is over, his favorite place is right in your lap. He is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and eager to learn. He is already picking up his training quickly and knows sit, touch, and “eyes on me.”
Pooh loves everyone he meets, dogs, people, and kids. He is always ready to make a new friend and is respectful of the senior dogs boundaries.
Pooh came to Starfish from an overcrowded shelter in Kentucky, so he is still learning that he never has to worry about where his next meal is coming from. He has no problem with people being around or touching his food, but he doesn't appreciate his sister trying to take it. He does great sharing treats and toys. His future family should simply be patient and continue helping him build confidence around mealtimes.
At night, Pooh currently sleeps with his sister in a playpen, although if given the choice, he would much rather snuggle up with his person!
Pooh is also working hard on his potty training and is making progress every day. He is a puppy so we are still learning the difference between furniture and toy.
This sweet boy would thrive with a family committed to continuing his training and helping him grow into the wonderful adult dog he is meant to be. With his affectionate personality, love of people, and eagerness to learn, Pooh Bear is going to be one very handsome and loving boy.

Puppy (4 months 11 days) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Pineapple Upside Down Cake – "Pineapple" for short!
Estimated date of birth: mid-May 2026
Weight: 18 lbs (and still growing!)
Pineapple is as sweet as his name! This handsome boy is sleek black with a white chest, white toes, and a little white tip on his tail. He's all long legs and a long, happy tail, so he may have some growing left to do.
Pineapple is a super sweet pup who loves other dogs. Playtime with his canine friends is one of his favorite things, so he would do best in a home with another playful dog to keep him company and help teach him good manners.
Read more about Pineapple
Like most puppies his age, Pineapple is going through a mouthy phase and is very nippy right now. He'll need an adopter who is ready to keep up with consistent, positive-reinforcement training to help him learn better ways to play. Because of this, we're looking for a home with children 8 years and older.
He's doing great with his house training! Pineapple goes potty outside and will let you know when he needs to go. If you miss his cue, he'll use a pee pad. He's also a champ in his crate and sleeps through the night from about 10:30 pm to 6:30 am.
Pineapple is still dealing with some itchy skin, along with some missing fur on his right ear and a few spots on his body. His foster family is keeping an eye on it, and his adopter should be prepared to continue following up with their vet as needed.
Pineapple would do best with:
A home with another playful dog, children 8 and older, and an adopter committed to positive puppy training.

Puppy (2 months 28 days) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Marcie, a 10-12 week old Pitt/ Hound mix, currently weighing in at 24#. Marcie hitched a ride on the freedom van just in time before being pulled for euthanasia. She has been adjusting to life in a home and learning how to be a dog. Marcie has been in a foster home with kids age aged 12 - 15 years old, a 100# dog, 2 cats and a guinea pig. Marcie is a social butterfly and loves humans of all ages. She also thrives on the companionship and direction of another dog and is learning how to play appropriately during her teething era. She is pleasantly curious about cats, but has been respectful and takes their cues. As a puppy, Marcie has been doing great with potty training and is slowly adjusting to a crate, which will need to be continued in her forever home. We are also working on her learning to use her inner voice instead of barking when she wants something. This has been improving with exercise outdoors, enrichment toys and working with her on practicing patience! If you are ready for all things puppy, then Marcie is your gal!

Meet Mickey!
Mickey is a 13-week-old terrier mix boy (born mid-June 2026) with a sweet and playful spirit that's just beginning to shine. He spent his early weeks living under a porch with no human interaction, so he comes to us a little timid at first — but here's the wonderful part: he warms up quickly once he realizes he's safe and loved. Mookie is as cute as they come, with a beautiful brindle coat that makes him stand out from the crowd. He is curious, sweet, and full of that classic terrier spirit, always ready to explore and see what's going on. Even though he's small, he has plenty of personality packed into his little frame!

Mookie will do best with a family who is home often and can give him lots of time, attention, and positive experiences as he grows. Meeting new people, seeing new places, and getting used to everyday sights and sounds will help him become a happy, confident, well-rounded dog. A family who enjoys including their pup in daily life will be a perfect fit for this little guy.
Like any puppy, Mookie is still learning his puppy manners and working on his potty training, and he will need a family who will continue his training as he grows. He is a smart boy and is already learning sit.
When he's done exploring for the day, Mookie loves nothing more than curling up close to his person for some cuddles. Mookie would love a family who will spend plenty of time with him, keep up his training and socialization, and spoil him with love. This little guy is ready to bring big joy to his new home!
The adoption fee of $550 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm, and any other necessary medical treatment to ensure a healthy new pup for your family. 18. Bandit
Puppy (2 months 22 days) · Male · Hound / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Bandit is a spunky, free-spirited, goofy little Hound Mix, estimated to have been born on May 29, 2026, who is always ready for one more round of play! He is 100% puppy and absolutely embraces it. He loves to wrestle and chase his brother, run around the yard, and explore. He’s wonderful with our young kids and is learning how to channel all of that puppy enthusiasm appropriately.
Read more about Bandit
He loves to play, explore, and be involved in whatever his people are doing. Bandit can be a little mouthy when he gets excited—we affectionately call him our little piranha! He can be easily redirected with treats, bones, and toys. Bandit plays hard and crashes even harder. Once he finally accepts that playtime is over, he loves curling up with his brother or settling into your arms. Getting him to agree that playtime is over, however, can be another story—if it were up to Bandit, the fun would never end!
He is a curious little explorer who takes great pride in finding sticks and leaves, chewing on his favorite bones, and rolling around in the grass. He is working hard on potty training, doing well with potty pads, and quickly learning that outside is the place to go.
Because Bandit loves to play and has so much energy, we think he would thrive in a home with an active, playful canine companion who can keep up with him while also helping him learn appropriate boundaries and doggy manners. He would love having a confident, well-mannered dog to show him the ropes.
Bandit is still very much a baby, so his forever family will need to be patient, consistent, and ready for all the hilarious, messy, wonderful parts of puppyhood. In return, they’ll get a goofy, affectionate, adventurous little guy who will keep them laughing—and who will eventually curl up in their arms when his tiny body finally runs out of gas.
A securely fenced yard is required so Bandit has a safe place to run, play, explore, and be the spunky little puppy he is.

Adopting a puppy in Joliet
Puppies usually go to their new homes from about eight weeks old, once they're weaned and have had their first vaccinations. Most rescues spay or neuter them before adoption, or include it in the fee.
Ask the rescue how big the puppy is expected to grow and which breeds they think are in the mix, so you can plan for the dog they'll become.
Puppies need a lot of your time: house-training, a few minutes of training every day, several small meals, and someone home often enough to let them out. A puppy class is a good way to start.
