1. Oliver bonded with Cookie
Adult (5 years) · Male · Pomeranian / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

A Cookie and a little bear cub. Your home might be missing both.
Meet Cookie (F) and Olly (M), a bonded pair of little fluffballs, estimated to be 5–7 years old, looking for their furever home—together.
These two follow each other everywhere. Wherever one goes, the other is never far behind.
Cookie is the playful girl who gives hugs with her paws. Yes, actual little Cookie cuddles. Good luck getting anything done when she’s offering those.
Read more about Oliver bonded with Cookie
Olly is like a tame little bear cub. I’m convinced there’s some Corgi in there somewhere, although that is purely my very unofficial foster-mum assessment. He’s just such a happy boy—and Cookie is a happy girl, too.
They’re good with kids, okay with cats, and fine with other dogs. Very easy pups who would make wonderful city companions. You don’t need a sprawling estate for this double act—just room in your home and heart for both.
They just need their own people, their own sofa, and a lifetime of staying side by side
If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup, please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application. Our team will review your application, and if it is a good fit, we will be in touch!
The $600 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate/required vaccinations, heartworm treatment, and any other necessary medical care to ensure a healthy new pup for your family.

We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *Please note that we are a foster home-based rescue, and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of Chicago and surrounding suburbs. 3. Skip
Young (2 years 5 months) · Male · Beagle / Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

At just 22 pounds, Skip is full of love and affection! He loves to cuddle and be close to his humans so much that he would live under your skin if he could! Whether you're relaxing on the couch or going about your day, Skip wants to be right by your side. There’s never a dull moment with this sweet guy!
Skip can be a little anxious when meeting new people, but once he feels safe, his loving personality shines through. He is potty trained, knows “sit” and “stay,” and walks on a leash once he has a few minutes to adjust. We believe he is a Jack Russell Terrier mix, and despite his terrier roots, he rarely barks!
Finding the Right Home
Read more about Skip
Skip currently lives with two dogs of different sizes and a toddler. However, finding the right home is especially important because Skip was involved in an incident that resulted in the death of a cat. He needs a home without cats or other small animals. His compatibility with other dogs and children should be carefully assessed to ensure everyone's safety.
Skip will thrive with a patient adopter who understands his anxiety, gives him time to adjust, and helps him feel safe and secure.
A Note About His Health
Skip is currently heartworm positive and receiving ongoing treatment. If you're looking for an affectionate little companion and can provide Skip with the safe, loving environment he needs, he may be your perfect match!

If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup, please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application. Our team will review your application, and if it is a good fit, we will be in touch!
At just 5–6 months old and already 45 pounds, this handsome boy is a big bundle of love with one of the sweetest personalities I’ve ever seen in a puppy.
Read more about Sammy Stings
What makes him so special isn’t just his adorable face or oversized paws, but his incredibly gentle, easygoing nature. He’s an old soul in a puppy’s body. While he certainly enjoys playing, exploring, and having his puppy moments, he’s just as happy relaxing beside his people and soaking up their company.
And for being such a young puppy, he’s already got some pretty impressive manners!
Potty trained and doing wonderfully with his house manners!
Crate trained and sleeps through the entire night like a champ!
Walks beautifully on a leash and genuinely enjoys spending time with his people.
Great with other dogs and loves having canine friends!
A friend to everyone! Every person he’s met so far has been greeted with nothing but sweetness.
One of my favorite things about him is how content he is just being part of the family. He doesn’t need constant entertainment or excitement. Sometimes all he wants is to lie down near you, chew on a favorite toy, or quietly watch the world go by.
He’s still a puppy, so he has plenty of growing and learning ahead of him, but he already has such a wonderful foundation. I truly believe he’s going to grow into an incredible companion for someone lucky enough to call him theirs.
Homes with kids 8 and older are preferred - as is a fenced in yard or an active family
The adoption fee of $500 will include spay/neuter, microchip,
age-appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm, and any other necessary medical treatment to ensure

6. Tinker
Senior (14 years) · Female · Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Tinker – A Sweet Senior Looking for Her Soft Place to Land
Breed: Chihuahua mix
Sex: Female
Age: About 14 years old
Activity level: Low
Tinker is truly a sweetheart. This gentle senior girl tries so hard to please and would love nothing more than a quiet, loving home where she can spend her golden years being adored.
Tinker has been a wonderful houseguest in her foster home. She gets along well with other dogs and has had no problems living with a cat. She also took an instant liking to her foster family’s grandkids, ages 7 and 9, and the feeling is mutual. They love her!
Read more about Tinker
While Tinker is a low-energy girl who enjoys her downtime, she still has a curious side. Give her a safely fenced space and she’ll happily potter around, sniffing and exploring at her own pace.
Home requirements: Tinker must have a fenced-in yard. She will not potty on a leash, so a secure, fenced area where she can go outside comfortably is essential for her.
Tinker would thrive with:
A calm, loving home with a fenced yard, someone who appreciates the quiet joys of a senior dog, and a cozy spot on the couch to call her own. She does well with other dogs, cats, and kids who are gentle with her.
If you have room in your heart (and your yard) for this sweet senior, please fill out an adoption application today. Tinker is ready to show you just how much love a little dog can give.

Meet Willow – A Petite Pup with a Big, Bright Spirit!
Breed: Boston Terrier mix
Sex: Female
Approximate date of birth: Late July 2026
Current weight: About 5 lbs
Energy level: Medium to high
Willow may be small, but she’s packed with personality! This little sweetheart is curious, clever, and ready to take on the world one tiny paw at a time.
Willow is a quick learner who already understands mealtime manners. Hold her bowl up by your chest and she’ll sit nicely and wait for her food. She’s coming along well with house training too. She uses her pee pad and is going outside more often to potty, especially after she eats.
Read more about Willow
Car rides are no problem for this girl. She travels like a pro in a doggie booster seat or crate and is happy to tag along wherever you go. She’s doing nicely on leash for her age and is easygoing about baths and nail trims.
Willow loves to play and explore, but once she’s worn herself out, she’s happy to settle in for some sleepy cuddles. She’s not a full-time lap dog, but those snuggly moments are extra sweet.
Willow would thrive with:
A loving, engaged home ready to enjoy the fun of puppyhood and help her learn and grow. Willow loves other dogs and would happily share her home with a friendly canine companion, but she’ll do just as well as an only dog..
Care notes:
Like many small breed puppies, Willow eats 3–4 small meals a day and she uses a slow feeder at mealtimes.
If you’re ready to welcome a pint-sized bundle of fun into your life, submit an adoption application for Willow today!
I kept the same traits as Freya’s bio since they’re fostered together. If any details differ for Willow, like her house training, leash skills, or energy level, let me know and I’ll update the listing.

age-appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm, and any other necessary medical treatment to ensure
a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe the breed, since our pups all come from shelters, we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed!

Sex: Female
Approximate date of birth: Late July 2026

Read more about Freya
This clever pup already knows how to sit politely for her meals. Hold her bowl up by your chest, and she’ll plant her bottom and wait. Freya is making great progress with house training. She reliably uses a pee pad and is heading outside more and more to do her business, especially after meals.
Freya is a fantastic travel companion. She rides beautifully in the car in a doggie booster seat or a crate, so she’s ready to join you on outings. She’s doing well on leash for a young pup and takes nail trims and baths in stride.
She has plenty of puppy energy for play, but when she’s finally tuckered out, she’ll happily curl up for some snuggles. She’s not a typical lap dog, but those sleepy cuddles are worth the wait!
Freya would thrive with:
An active, loving home that’s ready for puppy training and play. Freya gets along well with other dogs and would especially benefit from a confident, friendly dog at least 2 years old who can show her the ropes and help her grow into a well-mannered companion.
Care notes:
Like many small breed puppies, Freya currently eats 3–4 small meals a day. She uses a slow feeder at mealtimes.

9. Ava
Puppy (5 months 9 days) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Ava! Ava is so sweet and affectionate, loves to cuddle, and incredibly smart. At just five months old and around 35 lbs, she’s already eager to learn and picks up new commands incredibly quickly. She is potty trained and has down all the basic commands, and is eager to learn more. She loves making her people proud. She loves to play fetch and explore, but is happy to lay down and snuggle with her people too. Like any puppy, Ava has a few typical puppy behaviors and is still learning about the world around her. She has playful energy but also has an incredibly affectionate side. Because Ava didn’t have the opportunity to be properly socialized early in life, she’s still learning that new people and new experiences are safe. She’s making wonderful progress every day and is looking for a patient, loving family who will continue building her confidence with positive reinforcement and gentle guidance. The best part? Ava has all the ingredients to become an incredible lifelong companion. With continued love, consistency, and socialization, she’s going to grow into an amazing dog. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who’s smart, affectionate, fun, and ready to blossom, Ava might just be your perfect match.

14. Charlie
Puppy (4 months 5 days) · Female · Terrier / Border Collie / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Charlie
is a 4-month-old puppy who has been through more in her short life than most dogs face in a lifetime. When she was only a few weeks old, she was attacked by another dog, and her front leg had to be amputated.

Charlie
has stayed the sweetest, most gentle puppy you will ever meet. She doesn't let anything slow her down. She gets around well on her remaining front leg, though she tires easily, so long walks aren't her thing. She's more of a "patio princess" who loves soaking up the sun outside, then settling in for a cuddle.

She plays nicely with the resident dog in her foster home. She has a beautiful tan coat that will require brushing. She settles into her bed at night by herself. Hazel is a pleasure to have as a companion to both human and dog.
Hazel is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and spayed. She is mostly housetrained with the occasional accident. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.

Her new family should be patient and willing to let Kanga learn at her own pace, and they will be rewarded with a loyal and loving companion.
Like any puppy, Kanga is still learning her puppy manners and working on her potty training, and she will need a family who will continue her training as she grows. She is a smart girl and is already [learning sit].
After a good play session, Kanga is happy to curl up close for some cuddles. Kanga would love a family who will give her time, encouragement, a canine role model to look up to, and plenty of love. Watching this sweet girl grow with the help of her new best friend is going to be such a joy!

21. Pooh Bear
Puppy (3 months 14 days) · Male · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Pooh Bear is one happy, cuddly pup!
Born at the beginning of July, Pooh is currently in a foster home with his sister, Roo. His foster family has three dogs ranging from 10–80 lbs, children ages 10 and 14, and even a cat, so he is getting lots of experience with different people and pets. Pooh is expected to grow into a handsome, stocky boy weighing around 50–60 lbs.
Read more about Pooh Bear
Pooh loves playing with his sister, chasing a toy, or romping with the Chihuahua in his foster home. But when playtime is over, his favorite place is right in your lap. He is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and eager to learn. He is already picking up his training quickly and knows sit, touch, and “eyes on me.”
Pooh loves everyone he meets, dogs, people, and kids. He is always ready to make a new friend and is respectful of the senior dogs boundaries.
Pooh came to Starfish from an overcrowded shelter in Kentucky, so he is still learning that he never has to worry about where his next meal is coming from. He has no problem with people being around or touching his food, but he doesn't appreciate his sister trying to take it. He does great sharing treats and toys. His future family should simply be patient and continue helping him build confidence around mealtimes.
At night, Pooh currently sleeps with his sister in a playpen, although if given the choice, he would much rather snuggle up with his person!
Pooh is also working hard on his potty training and is making progress every day. He is a puppy so we are still learning the difference between furniture and toy.
This sweet boy would thrive with a family committed to continuing his training and helping him grow into the wonderful adult dog he is meant to be. With his affectionate personality, love of people, and eagerness to learn, Pooh Bear is going to be one very handsome and loving boy.

23. Marcie
Puppy (2 months 28 days) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Marcie, a 10-12 week old Pitt/ Hound mix, currently weighing in at 24#. Marcie hitched a ride on the freedom van just in time before being pulled for euthanasia. She has been adjusting to life in a home and learning how to be a dog. Marcie has been in a foster home with kids age aged 12 - 15 years old, a 100# dog, 2 cats and a guinea pig. Marcie is a social butterfly and loves humans of all ages. She also thrives on the companionship and direction of another dog and is learning how to play appropriately during her teething era. She is pleasantly curious about cats, but has been respectful and takes their cues. As a puppy, Marcie has been doing great with potty training and is slowly adjusting to a crate, which will need to be continued in her forever home. We are also working on her learning to use her inner voice instead of barking when she wants something. This has been improving with exercise outdoors, enrichment toys and working with her on practicing patience! If you are ready for all things puppy, then Marcie is your gal!

24. Mickey
Puppy (3 months 23 days) · Male · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Mickey!
Mickey is a 13-week-old terrier mix boy (born mid-June 2026) with a sweet and playful spirit that's just beginning to shine. He spent his early weeks living under a porch with no human interaction, so he comes to us a little timid at first — but here's the wonderful part: he warms up quickly once he realizes he's safe and loved. Watching Mickey bloom as he discovers what it means to have a family and a home is truly special.
Read more about Mickey
This gentle boy is very sweet and playful, and he's already showing so much personality and affection once he settles in. He gets along great with other dogs, kids, and cats, making him a wonderful addition to almost any family. He would do best in a home with older, respectful children ages 8 and up.
He's currently working on potty training, so he'll need patient, consistent guidance — but he's eager to learn and eager to please. He is around 8 lbs and will be medium sized when full grown.
Mickey is looking for a patient, loving family who understands that building trust takes time and who will celebrate every small milestone as he grows. If you're ready to give this sweet boy the safe, nurturing home he deserves and watch him blossom into his best self, Mickey is waiting for you!

Hi, my name is
March
!
I'm a 3.5-year-old 70lb sweetheart looking for my forever family. If you're searching for a loyal best friend and a professional cuddle buddy, I might be your perfect match! I absolutely love being close to my people and will happily soak up all the pets and snuggles you have to offer.
When I'm not cuddling, you'll usually find me playing with my favorite squeaky toys or hanging out outside. Being outdoors is my happy place! I love watching over the yard and keeping an eye on everything going on around me.
Read more about March
I'm a good listener, too. I come when called and know my basic commands. I'm eager to please and enjoy spending time with my humans.
I've worked hard to become the confident boy I am today. New things like hardwood floors, elevators, and loud noises used to make me nervous, but with patience and support, I've learned that those things aren't so scary after all. My journey has helped me grow into a brave and resilient dog who keeps getting better every day.
What I'm really looking for is a family to love. In return, I promise endless cuddles, unwavering loyalty, and lots of happy moments together.
Love,
March

26. Hazel
Adult (2 years) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Hazel!
Hazel is a sweet, smart, treat-motivated 2 yr old girl who is ready to find her forever family! At approximately 2 years old and around 45 pounds, Hazel is a medium-large German Shepherd mix (best guess) with plenty of personality and lots of love to give.
Hazel loves her people, including kids, and her favorite things include treats, cuddles, zooming around the backyard, spending time with her humans, and keeping an eye on the house. She’s a smart girl who is eager to please and very trainable when treats are involved! She is still working on her manners and may need a reminder not to jump up when she gets excited to see someone.
Read more about Hazel
Hazel is potty trained, does well on a leash, and is comfortable sleeping in a crate, although she’d much rather be close to her people.
One important thing to know about Hazel is that she has a strong prey drive and does not do well with small animals, including small dogs. She will do best in a home without small pets. With slow, appropriate introductions, she can do well with dogs who are similar in size or larger.
If you’re looking for a smart, affectionate girl who will happily trade cuddles and companionship for a few tasty treats, Hazel may be your perfect match!

28. Tilly
Young (6 months) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Meet Tilly!
Tilly is a 6-month-old orange and white terrier (born mid-March 2026) who is 8 pounds of pure delight! This charming, bright, and wonderfully silly girl is the definition of social. She loves other dogs and thrives on playful interaction, but she's also quite independent and happy to entertain herself with toys or a good game of fetch. Tilly is a bundle of energy — she loves car rides, exploring the backyard, and those glorious moments of running full-speed zoomies — but she knows how to balance her busy days with cuddle time. Once she's played her heart out, she'll happily curl up for snuggles until the next adventure calls.
Read more about Tilly
Tilly will thrive best in a supervised home with a gentle canine sibling or pack, where she can play and learn with other dogs. A fenced yard is recommended — she's small, fast, and absolutely fearless, which means she needs a secure space to safely burn off that terrier energy. She's currently working on house training, so she'll need patient, consistent guidance as she continues to learn.
If you're ready for a delightful, playful girl who will bring joy and laughter to your home and your pack, Tilly is ready to meet you!

29. Bandit
Puppy (2 months 22 days) · Male · Hound / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Joliet

Bandit is a spunky, free-spirited, goofy little Hound Mix, estimated to have been born on May 29, 2026, who is always ready for one more round of play! He is 100% puppy and absolutely embraces it. He loves to wrestle and chase his brother, run around the yard, and explore. He’s wonderful with our young kids and is learning how to channel all of that puppy enthusiasm appropriately.
Read more about Bandit
He loves to play, explore, and be involved in whatever his people are doing. Bandit can be a little mouthy when he gets excited—we affectionately call him our little piranha! He can be easily redirected with treats, bones, and toys. Bandit plays hard and crashes even harder. Once he finally accepts that playtime is over, he loves curling up with his brother or settling into your arms. Getting him to agree that playtime is over, however, can be another story—if it were up to Bandit, the fun would never end!
He is a curious little explorer who takes great pride in finding sticks and leaves, chewing on his favorite bones, and rolling around in the grass. He is working hard on potty training, doing well with potty pads, and quickly learning that outside is the place to go.
Because Bandit loves to play and has so much energy, we think he would thrive in a home with an active, playful canine companion who can keep up with him while also helping him learn appropriate boundaries and doggy manners. He would love having a confident, well-mannered dog to show him the ropes.
Bandit is still very much a baby, so his forever family will need to be patient, consistent, and ready for all the hilarious, messy, wonderful parts of puppyhood. In return, they’ll get a goofy, affectionate, adventurous little guy who will keep them laughing—and who will eventually curl up in their arms when his tiny body finally runs out of gas.
A securely fenced yard is required so Bandit has a safe place to run, play, explore, and be the spunky little puppy he is.

She has a big personality, a playful spirit, and plenty of love to share. Taylor adores people, kids, and other dogs, and her happy, social nature makes her a wonderful companion.
Read more about Taylor
Taylor is an eager learner who loves having a job to do. She already knows commands like sit and down and is learning to wait patiently for her “OK” before enjoying her meals. She thrives with a routine and will even let you know when she thinks it’s time to get back on schedule with her adorable little “talking.”

Adopting a dog with children in Joliet
Bring the whole family to meet the dog before you adopt, and ask the rescue how the dog behaves around children your kids' ages.
Teach children to let the dog come to them, to stroke gently, and to leave the dog alone while it's eating or sleeping. Give the dog a bed or crate of their own to retreat to, and always supervise young children with a new dog.
Relaxed adult dogs are often a better match for young children than puppies, which jump up, nip and chew while they learn.
