7. Bree

Young (10 months) · Female · Dachshund / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 77 mi from Bowling Green

This dog is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $200 if picked up in TN, $275 plus transport fee for out-of-state adoptions.

Read more about Bree

Bree wiggles her entire body the moment she sees her person, long ears bouncing up and down, and it is impossible not to smile. This 10-month-old Dachshund mix weighs 22 pounds and has the playful energy of a puppy. She loves squeaky toys, investigating new surroundings, and showering her favorite people with kisses on faces, ears, hands, and toes. When playtime winds down, there is nothing she likes better than curling up in a lap to watch TV, happy just to be near you. Bree is fully housetrained with no accidents so far, as long as she gets regular potty breaks in the morning, afternoon, and at bedtime. She is crate trained too, lying quietly inside, and she enjoys traveling in her crate and riding in the car. She does not know any commands yet, so she is a blank slate ready to learn. On walks she can go a good distance, stopping often to sniff everything along the way.

The big world outside can feel a little overwhelming to Bree. New noises, cars, people, and dogs make her nervous at first, and she may bark a little or try to keep her distance. The more she meets them, the braver she gets, and with time she warms up and her sweet personality shines through. She is a homebody at heart and perfectly content spending quiet time with her person.

Bree would be happiest with a family who will help her build confidence one new experience at a time, and who will enjoy having a loyal little lap buddy in return. With the right support, she is going to blossom into a wonderful, devoted companion. If you have the patience and heart to help a sweet girl find her courage, Bree would love to meet you. 10. Brittany

Young · Female · Beagle (short coat) · 74 mi from Bowling Green

This beautiful purebred Beagle girl called Brittany is our pride and joy to offer to a Beagle loving family. Her story is sad and one that will make you sad and mad all rolled in to one roller coaster of emotions. A young newly wed couple were driving from their home in Chattanooga, on their way to a honeymoon in Nashville, TN. Out of the corner of their eye while driving, they saw a truck pulled over and pushing this girl out onto the side of the road and then drive away. They owned two dogs of their own and it broke their heart to see such meanness. She was in a desperate situation. They pulled over and took her in to their car and then started making calls to shelters and rescues in the Nashville area where they were destined to arrive in a few hours.

Read more about Brittany

They got Critter Cavalry on the phone and we stepped up to take her in immediately and we would make sure she had a future family who would never do such a horrible thing as to abandon her. What we have found out with Brittany is that she is a happy and inviting girl who loves to play with other dogs and who loves to spoken to with kindness. She craves love which we are sure she got little of before. Her fav game is to chase a ball. She is young as in probably a year or 2 at the oldest and she weighs 26 pounds. She is being spayed 10/23 and has already started her shots and worming. She is picture perfect if you want a Beagle or small dog that is not tiny but resilient and fun and loving. We know she loves couches and dog company for playtime and hanging out. She’s housebroken and will definitely need a fenced yard to keep that Beagle nose safely within sight of your back door.

11. Zoe

Adult · Shih Tzu (long coat) · 69 mi from Bowling Green

Meet Zoe — Our Spicy Little Shih Tzu
Zoe is about 7 years old and full of personality.
She’s a classic shih tzu with a cute face, a big attitude, and a whole lot of opinions about how the world should work. Zoe can be nippy and snappy, especially with new people or when she feels unsure.
She’ll need an adopter who understands that some dogs need time, patience, and structure to feel safe. The right person will go slow, set boundaries, and let Zoe settle in at her own pace. The good news? Zoe is very treat‑motivated, which makes training and trust‑building much easier.
Once she decides you’re her person, she’ll show you her sweet side — but she needs someone willing to put in the work to get there.
Zoe should go to a home with no young kids, and ideally someone experienced with small dogs who have a little spice.
If you’re the kind of person who loves a project pup with a big personality, Zoe might be your girl.

Adult (1 year) · Female · Chihuahua / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 77 mi from Bowling Green

This dog is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $200 if picked up in TN, $275 plus transport fee for out-of-state adoptions.

Read more about Gidget

Gidget is a gentle little sweetheart who is learning that the world can be a wonderful place and that people can be trusted. With her long legs, soft, upright ears, and delicate features, she looks a bit like a tiny fox or baby doe. She may not rush into your arms just yet, but when she chooses to sit beside you or rest her head in your lap, it feels like a special gift. At about 14 months old and 16 pounds, Gidget is a Chihuahua / Terrier mix with a moderate energy level. She enjoys peaceful walks, a little playtime indoors, and finding a sunny spot to soak up some warmth. She also likes her Kong, puzzle toys, and tossing a tennis ball around. She is food motivated and clever, making her a fun little student for a family ready to help her learn. Gidget does well with a consistent potty schedule and has been trusted to roam the house without chewing or making a mess. Her crate is her cozy retreat, and she often chooses to go there on her own. She walks nicely on leash and frequently looks to her person for guidance. New experiences can make her nervous, especially large dogs and some men, so she will need patient introductions and a calm approach. When frightened, she may try to pull away, making secure equipment and a fenced yard or leashed outings especially important. Gidget currently lives happily with the resident cat. She would likely be best in a quieter home with people who enjoy daily walks and understand that building trust takes time. She has so much potential, and the family who gives her patience and encouragement will get to watch her confidence blossom. If you have a peaceful home and a little extra love to help Gidget discover how wonderful life can be, reach out to A.A.R.F. by text at 931-260-8018 or visit https://www.aarf-tn.com to start the application process.

19. Cammie

Senior (16 years) · Male · Schnauzer / Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed · 77 mi from Bowling Green

CAMMIE is a courtesy listing, not in the AARF foster program, and we are posting online to help the owner find a home for them. Please visit http://aarf-tn.com/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply.

Cammie is a devoted little companion with a heart full of love and a serious talent for snuggling. At 16 years old and about 14.5 pounds, this sweet boy has an easygoing personality and is happy to spend much of the day relaxing, but he can still be ready for a little play when the mood strikes.

Read more about Cammie

Cammie loves being close to his person and will happily follow you around to make sure he knows what you're up to. His tiny cropped tail wiggles at impressive speed when he's happy, and he loves curling up under your arm or nestling against your neck. Toss him a toy and he may bring it right back for a little game of tug.

Cammie has learned an impressive collection of hand signals, including sit, down, back and heel, and understands that raised hands mean the treats are gone. He is mostly housetrained, although he may occasionally have an accident if left too long. He is also a quiet companion who generally only barks when he hears something he knows is unusual. He loves car rides and prefers riding in the back seat.

Cammie is a people lover who has done well around dogs, cats, farm animals and children who are gentle with him. He is a little hard of hearing, but a clap or other visual cue gets his attention. At his age, he does have some medical needs, including dental care that should be discussed with his veterinarian.

Cammie would love a calm home with people who appreciate the joys of an older dog and want a loyal little shadow by their side. If this affectionate senior sounds like your kind of companion, contact A.A.R.F. at 931-260-8018 to learn more about Cammie and arrange a meeting.

20. Maple-Petite 16 Lbs.

Adult · Female · Terrier / Mixed · 74 mi from Bowling Green

Meet Maple — A Little Terrier With a BIG Heart!Maple is one of those special dogs who seems to love everyone she meets. At 8 years old and 16 pounds, this sweet Terrier mix has the most loving heart and an easygoing, happy personality that makes her an absolute joy to be around. She especially adores children and would love to be part of a family where she can stay busy, have adventures, and then curl up with her people when the day is done.Maple is the total package when it comes to the important stuff—she is house trained and crate trained, and she is ready to be your devoted companion from day one.

Read more about Maple-Petite 16 Lbs.

She does pull a little on the leash because she gets excited about all the wonderful things there are to see and smell, but she loves going for walks and is eager to explore. With some consistent training and a confident handler, we think she will learn those leash manners in no time. And Maple is definitely not looking for a life spent sitting on the couch all day! This girl has energy and she wants to use it. She loves hiking, running with her person, going for long walks, and simply being outside enjoying the world. A securely fenced yard is required because she loves having the freedom to safely run and explore off leash. Her recall still needs some work, so her future family will need to continue working with her on that. The perfect family for Maple would be active people who enjoy getting outside and want a four-legged adventure buddy. She would be wonderful for someone who hikes, runs, walks regularly, or simply wants a dog who is excited to join them in an active lifestyle. She could thrive with a single person, a couple, or a family with older children. But here’s the best part about Maple: once she has had her exercise, explored the world, and spent time with her people, she is perfectly happy to settle down and cuddle. She has that wonderful Terrier spirit during the day and turns into the sweetest snuggle buddy when it’s time to relax. ❤️Maple is ready for someone who will give her the active, happy life she deserves—and in return, she will give you companionship, laughter, loyalty, and plenty of love.If Maple sounds like your kind of girl, please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.

Marley is about 13 pounds and runs around like a puppy. He’s happy, healthy, and just an all-around fun little guy. He loves going for walks, snuggling, eating (of course), and settling in for a good nap when the excitement is over. And then there’s Chloe—or Chloe 2, as we call her—because she looks almost exactly like a Chloe I fostered for well over a year. She’s a tiny 7-pound ball of spunk. She runs along the back of the couch, prances around the house, loves her treats and munchies, and happily entertains herself with toys. Both are great with other dogs and have settled in beautifully. They even slept comfortably in separate crates. Ideally, we’d love to see Marley and Chloe adopted together, but unlike some bonded pairs I’ve fostered, they don’t seem overly dependent on each other. I do think they could be happy adopted separately into the right homes. They are seriously the funnest, sweetest little things—and apparently no one has told them they’re supposed to be seniors. Chloe/Lightning is the female/spayed. She weighs approximately 7lbs. Her only issue currently is she does need MPLs on both knees....though she still gets around well, though sometimes stairs prove a bit difficult.Available dogs are met by appointment only and pre-approved adopters ONLY.Our dogs are currently in a foster homes which can answer your questions better than anyone else. Meet Chance Some dogs are given a name that fits them perfectly, and Chance is one of them. This sweet 5-year-old Beagle mix received his name because he was given a second chance at life—and he has embraced it with his whole heart. Chance came from a hoarding/ animal abuse case where his owners were consequently arrest, arrested. Despite everything he's been through, Chance has never lost his love for people. His tail still wags, his eyes still light up when he sees you, and he still believes that his forever family is out there waiting for him.

Read more about Chance

Chance is one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. He loves attention, enjoys spending time with his people, and has a gentle, loving personality that makes it impossible not to fall in love with him. He is a little on the chubby side at 56lbs and loves to be a couch potato, though we have put him on an exercise regimen and a diet. Chance is currently heartworm positive, but that doesn't define who he is. He is receiving treatment and deserves the comfort of a loving home while he completes his journey to recovery. His future is bright, and all he needs now is someone willing to give him the love and security he has always deserved. Chance was given a second chance at life. Could you be the one to give him his second chance at a forever home? Please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com

Adopting a small dog in Bowling Green

Small dogs suit apartments and smaller homes, are easy to take along, and many live well into their teens.

They still need daily walks, play and training. Small dogs can be fragile, so ask the rescue how they are with young children, who can easily drop or step on them.
