1. Curly
Adult · Male · Great Dane / Mixed · 17 mi from Ellicott City

Hey there, I’m Curly! I’m a handsome 1-year-old brindle Great Dane weighing right around 80 pounds. Back in early October, a hunter found my brother and me out in the woods when we were very thin and dehydrated. Thankfully, we’ve been on a good feeding schedule ever since and have already put on 10 to 15 pounds! Everyone here says I am a total sweetheart. I'm super gentle with people, take treats nicely from your hand, and walk really well on a leash! I’m currently working on my housetraining, and since I love snacks so much, I'm a big fan of training time. I also get along great with other dogs! Even though I'm a big boy who likes to get vocal and chatty while playing, I'm actually very gentle with my dog friends.

I am all set on my vet care, too! I’m neutered, microchipped, caught up on all my vaccines, and tested negative for heartworm and tick diseases. I would love nothing more than a cozy home and a family to call my own. Come say hi to me soon!

2. Larry
Adult · Male · Great Dane / Mixed · 17 mi from Ellicott City

My name is Larry, and I’m a 1-year-old tan Great Dane weighing around 75 pounds! Earlier this month, a kind hunter found my brother and me out in the woods when we were severely underweight and dehydrated. Since then, we’ve been on a steady feeding schedule and have already gained a healthy 10 to 15 pounds! Even after a rough start, I am the sweetest, most gentle big guy. I walk nicely on a leash, take treats very softly from your hand, and love playing with other dogs! I can get pretty vocal when I play, and I also like to do some goofy mouth play, though I’m always gentle and never put any pressure down.

Because I don’t quite realize how big I am yet, I’m currently learning not to jump up when I get excited, and I'm also working on my housetraining (luckily, I'm super treat-motivated!). One funny thing to know about me is that when my brother and I were put in separate outdoor runs after getting neutered, I got bored and showed everyone I can climb a fence! I’m neutered, microchipped, up to date on my shots. I’m so ready to trade my days in the woods for a soft bed and a loving family. Come meet me soon!

3. Demi
Adult · Female · German Shepherd Dog / Mixed · 17 mi from Ellicott City

Hi, I’m Demi! I’m a 3-year-old, 70-pound German Shepherd mix who just loves being right in the middle of things. I’m super friendly, great with kids, and an easy passenger in the car. I’ve even gone out to busy adoption events and did great with all the new people and activity! I am very food-motivated, so if you have treats in your hand, you have my full attention. That makes teaching me new things pretty easy! As far as other pets go, I’m not a fan of cats, and I don't like dogs that play super rough or get in my face. I’d be happiest in a cat-free home where I can be your one-and-only, or live alongside a calm, polite dog who respects my space. I’m spayed, microchipped, and fully caught up on my vaccines. If you’re looking for a sweet, social shepherd to take on drives and spoil with treats, come say hi!

5. Dior
Adult · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Bulldog / Mixed · 12 mi from Ellicott City

Courtesy post: Some dogs lose their home once. Dior has lost hers more than once, and somehow, she still has nothing but love to give.
Please take a minute to read Dior’s story. This beautiful girl deserves a happy ending, and we desperately want to help her find it.
Read more about Dior
At just 4 years old, Dior has already experienced more heartbreak than any dog should. She was surrendered by her original owner when she was only a year old, but eventually found what she thought would be her forever home with an elderly couple in their 80s who absolutely adored her. She became her dad’s constant companion. They were inseparable. She stayed by his side, walked gently beside him, and gave him the kind of unconditional love only a dog can give.
Sadly, both of her beloved humans have since passed away. Their neighbor, who is now caring for Dior, stepped in to make sure she wouldn't be left without somewhere to go. But despite their best efforts, Dior needs a new forever family of her own.
And here's the thing about Dior... she is SO easy to love.
She is a professional cuddler who loves nothing more than snuggling up with her person, preferably right in bed beside them. She has a serious obsession with tennis balls, enjoys her outdoor playtime, loves her toys, and knows her commands. She is affectionate, devoted, gentle, and happiest when she has someone to call her own.
Dior is looking for a home where she can be the one and only pet. She deserves a home where she doesn't have to compete for attention or navigate life alongside other animals. She has also shown focused curiosity toward cats, so a cat-free home is recommended.
Dior would do best in a quieter home with a predictable routine, where she can soak up all the love and attention. Her experience with children is limited, so any placement with kids would need careful consideration.
She is currently around 72 pounds and working toward a healthier weight.
We know her perfect person is out there. Someone who wants a loyal companion, a cuddle buddy, a tennis ball enthusiast, and a best friend who will adore them with her whole heart.
Dior has already had to say goodbye to the people she loved most. She deserves to stop wondering where she belongs. She deserves a home where she can unpack her bags, climb onto the couch, steal a spot in bed, and finally know that she's staying.
Let's make sure Dior's next chapter is her forever chapter.
Prince Frederick, Calvert County, Maryland. Her current caretaker is willing to travel for the right home.
Dior is spayed and up to date on vaccines.

Courtesy Post Please contact bsimson@gmail.com for inquiry and adoptionBurrito is a roughly 100 lb, six-year old, neutered Great Pyrenees. He is up to date on vaccines and was rescued four years ago. He is incredibly sweet. He loves belly rubs and to lean on you. He is pretty chill and prefers to guard the perimeter of the yard or lay near you rather than play. With good nutrition and genetic testing it was discovered that Burrito is pure bred. He has worked with trainers over the past few years and he has made excellent progress. He follows several commands such as touch, go to spot, sit, leave it etc.Burrito tolerates the owners' cat who is always trying to annoy him.

8. Arbie
Puppy (1 month 5 days) · Male · Siberian Husky / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (long coat) · 14 mi from Ellicott City

Meet the Olivettes - Arbie
Read more about Arbie
Born on September 19, the Olivettes are a very special group of puppies with an incredible beginning. Their mom, Olive, came to us pregnant and out of time in a shelter. We got her to safety and gave her a soft, quiet place to deliver her babies — her first chance at real security. These pups were born into safety, love, and stability, and we intend to make sure their futures reflect that same promise. The Olivettes will be ready for adoption on November 15, and we’d like to have adopters confirmed for all of them. They are healthy, social, vocal, and full of Husky energy — everything you’d expect from a litter raised with confidence and care
Adoption Requirements
To ensure these pups continue to thrive, we have specific requirements for their adoptive homes:
Pick-Up Only: Adopters must plan to pick up their puppy from Virginia Beach, VA or Severn, MD (foster home or rescue). We will not transport puppies at this age.
Socialization Needs: These pups must have another dog in the home. The three puppies remaining require ongoing socialization. We will not place them in a home where there are only senior dogs — that’s not fair to your senior dog.
Spay/Neuter Requirement: All puppies must be spayed/neutered by 6 months old. There are no exceptions to this; licensing requires it.
We provide a spay/neuter appointment with our vet in Maryland.
Out-of-state adopters may use their own vet, but we cover costs only up to what our vet charges. Any difference is the adopter’s responsibility.
Activity Level: These are active, high-energy dogs who will need an active lifestyle.
Prior experience with working breeds is required, and they are not suited to sedentary homes.
Supervision Needs: At adoption age, they can only be left unsupervised for 2-hour intervals. If you work full days outside the home, these pups are not an appropriate match.
Cats: We have no way of knowing if they will be cat-friendly. If you have cats, you must have a safe, solid separation plan in case prey drive develops. We will ask you about this — we do not want to see a dog returned for normal Husky instincts.
Noise Considerations: This is a vocal litter. Please be mindful of your neighbors if you live in a multi-family dwelling.
Fenced Yard Priority: We will be prioritizing homes with fenced yards for safety and appropriate exercise.

11. Clementine
Young · Female · Spaniel / Mixed · 17 mi from Ellicott City

When I first showed up here, I was painfully skinny, scared of my own shadow, and entirely unsure of what this world had to offer. But with consistent meals, a safe bed, and gentle humans, I didn’t just step out of my shell—I blasted right out of it! Now? Oh, hey, I’m Clementine: a bouncy, affectionate 50-pound Spaniel/Pointer mix who is head-over-heels in love with life! Romping with my buddy Milo in the yard is my favorite sport, and I genuinely believe humans—especially kids—are the greatest invention on the planet. (I haven’t met a cat yet, so they're still a mystery to me.)Because everything out in the world is brand-new and thrilling, I tend to pull on walks like a sled dog.

Having a patient teammate to teach me polite leash manners will be key! I'm all set physically: spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, and officially done with my treatment for an old tick bite. If a resilient, joyful adventure buddy sounds like your match, I'd love to say hello!

12. Lexi
Adult · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed · 12 mi from Ellicott City

Courtesy post: Meet Lexi!
Lexi is a sweet, lovable Staffy mix who is now in Middle River, Maryland and looking for her forever home!
Lexi was rescued from a neglected home in South Carolina, where she was left outside much of the time with nothing more than a broken-down dog house. After coming into a loving home, she has spent the past six months discovering just how wonderful life can be.
Read more about Lexi
Lexi is truly the sweetest girl with an easygoing, affectionate personality. She is a total couch potato who loves relaxing, sleeping on the bed, and hanging out with her people. She also enjoys walks and chewing on a good bone. She is house trained and is just an incredibly easy girl to live with.
Unfortunately, after peacefully living with another female pit bull mix for several months, Lexi recently developed a serious conflict with the other female. The dogs have had two significant fights, and their family has had to keep them completely separated.
Female-to-female conflicts can happen even after dogs have lived together successfully for a long time, which is one of the reasons we are very cautious about pairing two female dogs. This doesn't necessarily mean Lexi can't live with another dog. With the right introduction and personality match, a calm, compatible male dog with a similar energy level could potentially be a wonderful companion for her. We simply don't want to rule out the possibility based on her current situation.
Her family loves Lexi dearly and had planned to keep her forever, but they know the current situation isn't sustainable. They believe Lexi deserves a home where everyone can relax and where she can continue being the happy, affectionate girl they know and love.
Lexi is approximately 3–5 years old, weighs about 75 pounds, is spayed, fully vaccinated, and was treated for heartworm approximately eight months ago. She has not been crate trained, so her comfort with a crate is unknown.
Lexi has been wonderful with people and was comfortable when her 3-year-old granddaughter visited. However, because she has had very little exposure to children, her family feels a home with older children or adults may be the best fit.
We don't know how Lexi would do with cats. She loves chasing squirrels and rabbits, so a cat-free home would likely be the safest choice.
Lexi would make an amazing companion for someone looking for a big, sweet, affectionate couch potato. She loves her people, enjoys her walks and bones, and is ready to put her past behind her and settle into a forever home.
Lexi is currently in Middle River, Maryland.

14. Suki
Young (2 years) · Female · German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat) · 11 mi from Ellicott City

Suki is a 2 year old loving, goofy, energetic, sweet, and loyal dog who will thrive with an active family or person who understands and appreciates the intelligence and exuberance of a young GSD. She will do best in an adult only home (NO cats) where she can run and play to her heart’s content.
A home with a backyard would be ideal.
Suki was rescued from a local shelter about 2 years ago, she is a high energy, easily excitable, and protective dog.
Read more about Suki
Suki is very smart and was trained at Applejack K-9 Academy & Kennel. She knows commands with hand signals - COME, SIT, DOWN, STAY, HEEL, STAND, FINISH, WAIT, DROP IT, LEAVE IT , OFF, GIVE EASY, GENTLE, KENNEL, RELEASE, and BALL. There is no limit to her intelligence, she is a very quick learner. She has been trained with an e-collar.
She would be a great working dog on a farm or as a scent detection dog.
She loves a mission and is very obedient and committed in this regard! She is great at obstacle courses too.
Suki likes to play with stuffed animals and balls of any kind, especially Jolly Balls and balls that make noise. She enjoys playing monkey in the middle with a ball or toy, fetch, chase and tug. She also likes hunting for treats that are hidden around the house.
She adores having chewable treats that soften as she chews them and peanut butter-filled plastic or natural bones.
Suki has one ear! The original rescue believes it was a birth deformity since it was fully healed and healthy when she arrived to them at 4 weeks.
Suki's best life includes
plenty of exercise at local parks, and/or trails, training, guidance and structure.
If you are looking for a devoted best friend, who loves being active and having fun, Suki is your girl.

Name: Mio
Sex: Male
Estimated Age: About 4 years old
Best Guess for Breed: Terrier Mix
Weight: About 57 lbs
Lives With: Other dogs (and is great with all people!)
Housebroken? He’s potty trained.
Rescued from: South Carolina
Read more about Milo
Story: Milo is doing GREAT so far. He's been such a little gentleman! He's slept peacefully through the night and is quite polite with people and other dogs that we've seen around the apartment. There was a smaller dog that was barking at him and Milo minded his business and kept sniffing the grass. He seems housetrained (no accidents so far!) and eats very well. He tolerated a bath and me handling his ears to clean them. He walks great on a leash! He is still a little nervous around the traffic in the area, but he's done great and looks to me for reassurance. I've had to run errands and he's done great alone today, actually. Sometimes he'll sleep in his crate, or in the dog bed in the office. He'll even sit and wait for me to put the leash on him! He's such a sweetheart.
The fee to adopt Milo is $475. That covers the cost of all his vaccines, his neuter, the collar he’s wearing, his transport to DC and his care in his foster home. He’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines.
If you think that Milo might be your perfect match, apply today!

17. Valor
Adult · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed · 12 mi from Ellicott City

Courtesy post: Meet Valor, a resilient, brilliant, and incredibly affectionate 2-year-old boy who has been through far more than any dog should and somehow still believes people are pretty wonderful.
At 65 pounds, Valor is a big-hearted adventurer who loves car rides with his head out the window, zoomies in shallow water, and joining his humans for paddleboarding and kayaking adventures.
Read more about Valor
He is also one smart cookie. Valor knows sit, down, focus, and wait, is food motivated, and has been doing wonderfully with both group and individual training at Dogizone in Rockville. He walks beautifully on a martingale collar when his environment is calm and has been described as a stellar student.
One important thing to know about Valor is that his reactivity is very situational and is not aggression. He does wonderfully when he has room to interact and play with other dogs. He has played successfully with dogs in outdoor spaces, at daycare, and during group activities, and he has been introduced to other dogs at pet stores and while playing outside without issues. In fact, his daycare and trainers have seen him play appropriately with other dogs. His challenge tends to happen in confined spaces such as apartment hallways, elevators, or lobbies, where he sees another dog nearby and wants to get to them and play. His current living situation makes these unavoidable encounters especially difficult, but in the right environment with more space and fewer tight, unexpected interactions, Valor has shown that he can enjoy positive experiences with other dogs.
Valor has already overcome so much. He survived eviction, abandonment, and a neglectful foster situation, yet his spirit remains incredibly strong. What he needs now is not someone to fix him. He needs someone willing to understand him, advocate for him, and give him the consistency, patience, and peaceful home he deserves.
His current dad adopted him from an Atlanta shelter after Valor landed on the euthanasia list. He has invested in training and loves Valor deeply, but his busy, dog-friendly apartment building has become an extremely difficult environment for a dog who needs more space and fewer unexpected encounters. This is not a story about giving up on Valor. It is about recognizing that sometimes loving a dog means being willing to find the environment where they can truly thrive.
And we truly believe Valor will thrive.
He is adventurous, affectionate, clever, curious, enthusiastic, snuggly, food motivated, communicative, protective, and incredibly resilient. Valor is looking for his forever sanctuary, a home where he can finally exhale, feel safe, keep learning, and be the amazing dog we know he can be.
Valor is located in North Bethesda, Maryland. He is housetrained, microchipped, neutered, current on his vaccines, and has already received extensive training and support. An experienced adopter who can provide a calm, structured environment would be ideal.
To learn more about Valor, contact Aaron at (443) 904-0973 or aaronlfranklin1@gmail.com
Valor has already shown us how much fight he has in him. Now he just needs someone willing to show him that the rest of his story can be filled with love, adventure, and finally, home.

18. Jellyfish
Young · Female · Rottweiler (medium coat) · 11 mi from Ellicott City

MEET JELLY!
She is gorgeous. She is polite. She is dogs-of-all-sizes-friendly and loves her people hard. This young lady is blossoming under our very eyes and is filling out from her very underweight initial condition when she was found as a stray. Now in a loving and structured foster home, this knock out is quickly becoming part of the family unit and is making herself a part of the three-dog pack. She runs, plays, takes structured walks with, and relaxes with the resident and visiting dogs. We can’t be happier for how life is turning out for her!
Read more about Jellyfish
Jellyfish is a natural beauty with a long tail and the most soulful eyes. She is slowly gaining the weight she should and is now about 80 lbs and approximately 1 year old. Housebroken and non-destructive, she has earned supervised access to her foster home and her foster brothers are teaching her two extremely important household skills: Relaxation and neighborhood watch. If Foster Mom is around, however, she would prefer to abandon her post and sit nearby.
Miss Jelly has had a few outings and not only did great in the car (mostly looks out the window) but was wonderful meeting new people and was sweet with all of the new humans she met. She has met kids ranging in age from 3 to 12 while on leash and happily accepted pets from all adults (men and women alike), although she sometimes still shows shy behavior around Foster Dad who is the biggest/tallest of the bunch. Due to her large size (she is also still growing) we think it would be best to go to a home with children over the age of 10 so she doesn’t accidentally knock anyone over. (She has a VERY enthusiastic greeting that Foster Mom is working on tampering down a bit.)
Jellyfish’s adoption donation fee is $500, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for her by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org. Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.

19. Bowser
2 Years 1 Month · Male · Pit Bull Terrier (short coat) · 18 mi from Ellicott City

BOWSER
Male, neutered
~2 years old
Pit Bull Terrier
53 lbs.
Microchipped, up-to-date on core vaccines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention
Good with dogs and kids; untested with cats
We're not sure where Bowser’s story began, but we know one thing for sure: his future is bright
✨
after LOVEPAWS saved him from a recent shelter Urgent List where he was timestamped for his final hours.
I took Bowser in as my very first foster because the volunteer reviews from the shelter were absolutely glowing—and he is living up to every one of those blockbuster reviews! ⭐️ He is easy-going, friendly, cooperative, and just an all-around wonderful boy.
Read more about Bowser
Bowser is a serious love bug. He loves to climb into bed, flop onto his back, and splay himself out completely—totally confident and comfortable. He’ll happily fill your life with snuggles and kisses. ❤️
And the crate? Bowser is an absolute rockstar. He settles in without so much as a whine or whimper, making him incredibly easy to live with.
He loves his long walks and only pulls a little, especially when he spots another dog. Bowser is clearly a social guy and would love nothing more than to go make a new friend whenever he sees one! He may even be a great candidate for doggy daycare, given how eager he is to meet and pal around with other dogs.
But when it’s time to relax, Bowser knows how to settle. After a nice long walk or nap, he is perfectly content to curl up and be the best snuggle buddy you could ask for.
We may not know much about Bowser’s past, but watching him embrace his new life makes one thing crystal clear: this sweet boy has so much love to give, and his best days are still ahead.
Could Bowser be the easy-going, affectionate companion you’ve been looking for?

21. Lupo
Young (8 months) · Male · Siberian Husky / Chow Chow / Mixed (medium coat) · 14 mi from Ellicott City

Meet Lupo
Lupo is an 8 month-old Husky mix who came to H-E-A-R-T from a local cruelty case, rescued alongside his mom, Jetta, and two of his siblings.
With the help of his foster family — especially his foster Husky siblings — Lupo is doing incredibly well. He’s learning that houses aren't so scary, people can be trusted, and being part of a family is actually pretty great.
Lupo is a high-energy, vocal young guy who loves other dogs, toys, tug-of-war and, perhaps more than anything else, WATER. Pools, swimming, splashing — if there’s water involved, Lupo would like to participate.
At home, Lupo is:
Mostly housebroken
High-energy and vocal
Read more about Lupo
Good with other young, playful dogs
Good on leash, although he can still pull
Still learning bite inhibition and appropriate puppy play
Wary of strangers and sudden movements... But is making daily progress
Lupo is still very much a puppy. He can be mouthy when playing and is an enthusiastic chewer, so continued redirection, crate training, and plenty of appropriate chew toys will help him mature. Because of his energy and play style, he’s best suited for families with children 10+.
Lupo must have another energetic, tolerant dog — he gains confidence from canine companions and has made huge progress with his foster siblings. He needs an active family committed to regular walks, exercise, and patient introductions to new people. A fenced yard isn’t required as long as his family provides consistent leash walks and leashed potty breaks.
And if Lupo could add one special request? A pool or a place to swim. Water is his absolute joy.
Lupo started life learning reasons to be cautious. Now he needs a family — and a canine best friend — who will keep showing him all the reasons he doesn't have to be.
Lupo is being fostered in Virginia and is adoptable from NJ - NC.

22. Jetta
Adult (2 years 2 months) · Female · Siberian Husky / Chow Chow / Mixed (medium coat) · 14 mi from Ellicott City

Meet Jetta!
Independent, people-focused, and ready for a fresh start.
Jetta came to H-E-A-R-T after being part of a severe local neglect case. She and five other dogs were surrendered to animal control, closing the door on a life none of them deserved. For Jetta, what comes next is a chance to experience something very different — a home where she is safe, included, and genuinely part of the family.
Jetta enjoys being with her people and would do best with a family that wants her involved in their everyday life.
Jetta’s Dream Home
Jetta is looking for:
A family that will make her part of everyday life
Plenty of human companionship
Read more about Jetta
A home where she won’t routinely be left alone for long periods
Patience and consistency while she settles in and learns her new routine
Regular walks, exercise, and enrichment
A secure six-foot Husky-proof fence or a commitment to leash walking
A home where she can be the only dog or share her space with a calm, respectful canine companion
Jetta is non-destructive (although can be curious if you leave things on the counter), crate trained, housebroken, and mostly quiet for a Husky. She's a good eater and doesn't seem to be picky. For a Husky she walks well on a leash.
Jetta has already lived through a chapter no dog should have to experience. What comes next should look very different:
security, consistency, companionship, and a family willing to give her the time she needs to understand that this time, she’s home.
Jetta is located in Maryland.

24. Minnie
Adult · Female · American Staffordshire Terrier / American Bulldog / Mixed · 12 mi from Ellicott City

Meet Minnie – The Sweetest Little Meatball Looking for Her Happy Ending ❤️
If love came wrapped in a 100-pound American Bully with wiggly hips, floppy jowls, two different colored eyes, and a toy in her mouth... you'd have Minnie.
At around 3 years old, Minnie has already experienced more than any dog should. She and her sister were kept as junkyard dogs, and after a fight where Minnie was the one injured, she ended up in the shelter while her sister stayed behind. Despite that heartbreaking start, Minnie has never lost her ability to trust and love.
Read more about Minnie
Her current family rescued her from the Prince George's County shelter, helped her recover from kennel cough, and patiently showed her what it means to be safe, cherished, and part of a family. Watching her transform into the happy, goofy girl she is today has been incredible.
Minnie is the definition of a cuddle bug. She follows her people from room to room, adores sleeping in bed, loves giving morning kisses, and believes personal space is highly overrated. She'll happily spend the afternoon sunbathing on the deck, then surprise everyone with joyful evening zoomies before settling in with her favorite toy.
Speaking of toys... Minnie has "her spots" around the house. She carefully picks out a collection of favorites from the toy bin and carries them wherever she's decided to lounge. You can always tell where she's been by the adorable trail of half-shredded toys she leaves behind.
And when her people come home? Get ready for full-body wiggles. She proudly greets everyone by carrying one of her treasured toys, showing it off like she's bringing you the greatest gift in the world.
Minnie is house-trained, loves car rides, enjoys playing in the hose or kiddie pool, knows several commands, loves brushing her teeth, and is happiest simply being near the people she loves. She also does well with larger dogs after proper introductions and has lived peacefully with other dogs, often taking cues from them.
Because of her past, Minnie isn't a fan of being crated or confined, and loud, chaotic homes can make her anxious. She would thrive in a quieter home with a fenced yard, someone home much of the day, and ideally another medium or large dog to be her buddy.
Minnie cannot live with cats or other small animals. After a tragic incident involving the family's cat, her owners made the heartbreaking decision that the safest and kindest choice is to find her a cat-free home. They are committed to making sure she never has to return to the shelter and are determined to find the loving forever family she deserves.
Her family says it best: Minnie deserves all the soft beds, toys, treats, kindness, and unconditional love that life can offer. She's affectionate, loyal, goofy, gentle with her people, and ready to spend the rest of her life making someone smile every single day.
If you're looking for a best friend who will greet you with happy wiggles, share your bed, ride shotgun on adventures, and love you with her whole heart, Minnie may just be the missing piece of your family.

Meet Ace
From the moment he arrived at the shelter, Ace became a volunteer favorite. His goofy personality, sweet nature, and endless love for everyone he met made him impossible not to love. When he landed on the PG County Urgent List, our hearts sank.
Read more about Ace
We thought that chance had come when a family applied to adopt him. But they changed their mind just hours before his deadline. With time running out, volunteers shared his story far and wide, determined not to let their favorite boy be forgotten. In the final hours, LOVEPAWS stepped in and saved Ace. Now he’s safe in a foster home, winning over everyone he meets while he waits for the forever family he’s always deserved.
Ace is a happy-go-lucky, house-trained sweetheart who is as easy to love as he is to live with. He’s the kind of dog who fits right into your home, learns routines quickly and is truly the perfect house guest. He’s incredibly food motivated which makes training fun!
He already knows sit, down, paw and wait, and he’s currently working on his place command, sitting politely before going out the door, and waiting patiently before mealtime.
Don’t let his athletic looks fool you—Ace is actually a giant cuddle bug. His favorite place is wherever you are, usually with his oversized head resting on your lap or shoulder while he gazes into your eyes, shamelessly asking for belly rubs… or maybe just hoping you have a snack to share. He’s a big baby at heart and loves nothing more than being close to his people.
Ace absolutely adores other dogs, he wants to be everyone’s friend. On walks, if he spots another dog, he’ll adorably flop down and patiently wait, hoping they’ll come over to say hello. It’s one of the cutest things you’ll ever see. He’d love a playful canine sibling to romp around with, but he’d also be perfectly happy soaking up all the love as your one and only.
Whether you’re looking for the perfect family dog, a loyal adventure buddy, or a goofy shadow who will follow you from room to room, Ace is your boy. After everything he’s been through, he’s more than ready for the forever home he’s always deserved—and we promise he’ll steal your heart just like he stole ours.

26. Thanos
Young (4 years) · Male · German Shepherd Dog (short coat) · 11 mi from Ellicott City

Thanos is a 4 year old, energetic, affectionate and devoted shepherd who is looking for a new home with an active family or person. A home where he is the only dog, or where this is another mellow large breed dog is ideal.
He loves taking walks, playing in water and hiking. He is indoor/outdoor so just a small yard with a high fence is great. He loves fetch and carries his ball everywhere.
Read more about Thanos
Currently, Thanos is living with a GSD/Corso who has gotten dominant and aggressive with him, and there was a bite incident. Thanos’ family want the best for him, and despite efforts working with a trainer, he is extremely stressed in the environment, so the dogs must be separated.
Thanos has some training and knows SIT, STAY, RELEASE, COME, LIE DOWN, CRATE and OUTSIDE.
Thanos is great with kids and is loving and protective around them. He lives with children aged 13 and up.
He has lived with another large breed and a small yorkie mix.
Thanos is a quintessential GSD who will thrive with someone who understands the breed and appreciates their energy, intelligence and devotion.
Thanos is in California, but transportation will be provided to his new home.

27. Lucky
Adult · Male · Border Collie / Mixed · 17 mi from Ellicott City

Adopt Lucky! Meet Your New Best Friend Hi there, human friends! My name is Lucky, and I’m a handsome 6-year-old Border Collie mix looking for the person who will feel just as lucky to find me! At about 60 pounds, I’m past the messy puppy stage but still have plenty of classic Border Collie brains, energy, and personality. I’m easy to recognize by my sleek black coat, bright white socks, and the fancy white splash on my chest. Basically, I’m always dressed for a special occasion. I’m a social, affectionate guy who loves being part of the action. Adventures? Yes, please. Learning new tricks? Absolutely.
Read more about Lucky
Couch time after a busy day? I thought you’d never ask. I can get a little mouthy when I’m excited so I’d do best in an adult home or one without young children. I’m also selective about my dog friends. Some dogs get the tail-wagging seal of approval, while others don’t quite make the cut, so any potential canine sibling would need a thoughtful introduction. I may decide that being your one-and-only is the perfect arrangement—and honestly, I’m confident I can provide more than enough personality for one household. The Quick DetailsPersonality: Sweet, smart, social, active, and full of character Children: Best suited for an adult home or one without young kidsDog Friends: Selective; may do well with the right match after a careful introductionHealth: Neutered and have all of my core vaccines Come meet me and see whether Lucky might just be your lucky charm!

28. Athena & Iris
Adult (3 years 2 months) · Female · Siberian Husky (long coat) · 14 mi from Ellicott City

Athena and Iris came to us from Frederick County Animal Control after being surrendered as part of a trio of under‑socialized Huskies. Shelter staff initially believed the girls didn’t get along, but once they were safely out and able to decompress, their true relationship became clear. Athena, estimated around 3 years old, and Iris, just a year, are deeply bonded — likely a mother–daughter pair who relied on each other through instability. What began as two misunderstood dogs has revealed itself to be a sweet, protective duo who have only grown closer in foster care. Their dynamic fits perfectly — Athena leads with calm confidence, and Iris follows with trust and devotion.
Read more about Athena & Iris
They enjoy the company of other dogs and will happily play, but always with each other close by. If another dog tries to pick on one, the other steps in without hesitation. Their bond is deep, protective, and incredibly sweet to witness. We'd like to find them a home together.
Athena
Calm, steady, and self‑assured
The emotional anchor of the pair
Helps Iris navigate new experiences
Gentle, sweet, and quietly affectionate
Iris
Young, silly, and still learning about the world
A bit reserved in unfamiliar environments
Gains confidence from Athena’s presence
Sweet‑natured and eager to trust once she feels safe
Because of Iris’s limited exposure and Athena’s grounding influence, the girls will thrive in a
semi‑quiet home
with someone patient and understanding. They don’t need constant activity — just a stable environment, kind guidance, and the chance to continue blossoming together.
Athena and Iris are truly special. They’ve chosen each other, and now they’re ready to choose their person/family.

Adopting a large dog in Ellicott City
Large dogs need room to stretch out and plenty of exercise: at least one good walk a day, and a secure yard is a bonus. Check your lease too, as some landlords limit the size or breed of dog.
Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
