2. Moore

Adult (1 year) · Male · Terrier / Basenji / Mixed (short coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Moore is a gentle, affectionate boy with a perfect balance of playful and calm. He’s always ready to play with dog friends, and he loves curling up next to his person for snuggles. Fair warning, when you sit down and he lays up against you, resting his head on your arm, he is too cute to move. You may notice he still looks a little thin in some photos. He arrived in rescue underweight. . Rest assured he’s now enjoying regular meals, treats, and all the love he missed out on, working his way to an appropriate weight.

Read more about Moore

He also finds comfort in his kennel and his fluffy bed. When asked to kennel he happily trots in and tucks himself and settles quietly. He’s had no accidents and only vocalizes when he needs to go outside.

One of Moore’s standout moments was his recent visit to an assisted living facility, where he greeted residents with patience and warmth, happily accepting pets and making everyone's day.

Moore is learning that car rides can be good things. He climbs up onto the seat and curls up on the seat quietly. He is still learning leash skills, as I think the leash is totally new to him, but he is getting better with every walk.

Moore is a polite, social, and comforting dog who would make a wonderful addition to any home.

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee:

3. Beijing

Young (4 months 6 days) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Rottweiler / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Meet Beijing — the sweetest boy who wants to give you all of his kisses! Beijing is a 4-month old Rottweiler/Lab mix. He is very smart and has a lot of energy to share!

Beijing is an affectionate little guy who just wants to be close to his people. Whether inside or outside, he will be your loyal companion. He is always ready for ear massages and belly rubs. He is ready to be your snuggle buddy.

Read more about Beijing

He’s house trained, crate trained, and loves having space to run, play, and let out his abundant puppy energy! At this stage of puppyhood, he still needs a productive outlet for chewing, so the more chew toys and toys to keep his brain busy, the better! We have been working on walking with a leash, and he is a fast learner. With more practice, he will be a great walker. A fenced yard would be great for him to get all of his energy out! But once Beijing decides it is “bedtime,” he will go right into his kennel and sleep through the night!

On our walks, we haven’t introduced Beijing to other dogs yet. He has politely noticed them and would like to make friends. He might do well in a home with other dogs to play with, but with enough exercise and attention, he would be a good solo dog too.

Beijing has a lot of love to give his fur-ever family!

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee:

4. Bali

Young (4 months 4 days) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Meet Bali!

Look at that face! Bali is a sweet 4-month-old golden-red boy ready to find his forever home, and he’s already won over everyone he’s met.

Personality: Bali is a total love bug who adores every person and every dog he meets. Strangers are just friends he hasn’t cuddled yet! With his big, soulful eyes and a head tilt that will melt your heart, he’s hard to resist.

Size: At 23 pounds, Bali is a little chunk, and growing fast. He’s got that sturdy, solid puppy build, with a white bib and sweet floppy ears that haven’t quite decided whether to stand up yet.

Read more about Bali

Motivation: Bali is food-, treat-, and toy-motivated, which makes training a breeze. Bring on the snacks, and he’ll happily work for them!

Routines: He’s kennel trained and sleeps quietly through the night for 7-9 hours, so you can actually get some rest. Potty training is a work in progress, and he’s learning a little more every day. With consistency and plenty of praise, he’ll get there. Bali loves getting in the car & sits nicely in a bed in the backseat. He confidently jumps in & out of the car, and walks really well on-leash for his age! He is also starting to bell-train at the back door and will always go outside to potty when he is given the command. #2 is a little more difficult, but he has been nudging the bells or sits and waits by the back door. I think he will be really easy to fully potty train, as he is very intelligent.

Perfect for: Active families, singles, or couples who want a social, affectionate companion. Bali would do great with other dogs in the home, and he’s ready for puppy classes, long walks, and lots of couch snuggles (he’s already mastered the cozy blanket spot!).

If you’re looking for a cuddly, easygoing pup with a big heart and plenty of room to grow, Bali is waiting for you. Meet him!

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $625.00

6. Ambreta

Adult (1 year 6 months) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Ambreta is a gentle, affectionate gal who adores people and enjoys being part of whatever you’re doing. Born around April 2025, she’s great with other dogs, however she does like a minute to get to know them before the party starts. She also has a knack for knowing what the other dog needs. At her first training class she met a very timid pup. She came in soft, helped him build his confidence and within a short while they were playing like best friends.

Read more about Ambreta

Indoors, she’s a cuddlebug who's always ready to roll over for belly rubs. Outdoors, she shows off her signature move: stretching out flat like she’s flying and low crawling across the yard (self belly rub).

Ambreta is always up for a road trip, she rides well in the back seat. She occasionally pokes her head forward to say hi, but doesn't try to claim the front seat. She loves walks (because her person is there). She does want to explore everything, but she is progressing well with her leash skills. She has had no accidents. She is not a huge fan of her kennel, mainly because we are not in there with her. However, she is progressing every day. She now goes in it when we bring her to it and only protests for a minute or so the injustice of having to be away from us. (it is getting less and less as she is realizing she won't just be left in there forever)

She is excited to find a family who will love her just as much as she’ll love them.

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $585.00

7. Asiago

Puppy (2 months 28 days) · Female · Great Pyrenees / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

My name is Asiago and I am a 8 week old Great Pyrenees mix. My foster mom tells me I’ve got a face that melts hearts and I sure know how to use it to my advantage!! I’ll admit I’m a little spoiled in the snuggles department and love getting in close for some kisses. My spunky side comes out during playtime and when I’m outside following my nose, exploring the backyard. I'm still really young, but this whole potty training biz doesn't sound too hard- I think I'll have it down in no time! I don’t think walking on a leash will be too hard since I aim to please, but I have yet to test it out. I’m still snoozing with my siblings and I’m not sure how much I’ll like being in a kennel but I bet lots of treats will help! I’m looking for a playful and loving family (kids are great too) who has a heart as big as mine!

8. Lacy

Puppy (4 months 10 days) · Female · Golden Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Lacy is a sweet, playful and curious 3 month old golden retriever mix and is looking for her forever home. She’s your typical puppy, full of energy and curiosity, with lots of learning still to do, but she is making great progress and picking things up quickly!

Read more about Lacy

Lacy loves people and enjoys being close to and interacting with her humans. She loves giving kisses and following her foster parents around the house to see what they’re up to (especially if it involves making food). She’s a playful girl who enjoys all kinds of toys, and when she’s ready for some downtime, she loves chewing on bones and treat puzzle toys. Lacy is also a very smart and food-motivated girl. She responds well to training and knows sit, lay down, and kennel up.

She enjoys playing with other dogs and is excited to have canine friends around. Like most puppies her age, she is still learning appropriate play manners. She is in the phase where she likes to nibble hands, clothes and just about anything she can reach. She’s learning that people aren’t chew toys and is working on redirecting that puppy energy toward toys and chews.

Lacy is also still building confidence when she encounters new people, sounds or things in her environment. She may bark when something catches her off guard or she isn’t quite sure about it, but she typically warms up quickly once she realizes everything is okay.

She is doing really well with her crate and potty training! Lacy sleeps quietly in her crate overnight without accidents. During the day, she spends a few hours at a time in her play pen without accidents. She is continuing to learn potty training and does well throughout the rest of the house when given frequent potty breaks and appropriate supervision.

Overall, Lacy is an affectionate and playful puppy who loves being part of the action. She has a fun, curious personality and is already showing how smart and eager to learn she is. She’ll bring plenty of kisses, laughs, and puppy adventures to her forever home!

9. Lottery

Adult (3 years 1 month) · Male · Beagle / Mixed (short coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Hi there! My name is Lottery, but somewhere along my journey, I decided I prefer to be called Merle. I'm some sort of Beagle/Hound mix born around September of 2023 with the velvetiest ears you've ever felt and the kindest soul, or so I'm told. I'm a people-pleaser through and through. I'm also pretty sure I'm the perfect size: big enough to join you on your next adventure, but small enough to curl up right in your lap afterward.

Read more about Lottery

When I was first brought into rescue, I had almost no fur and needed lots of extra groceries. Thanks to plenty of love, care, and good meals, my coat is coming back beautifully. And if I may brag a little, have you seen my pictures? I've got some pretty handsome coloring!

Speaking of my best qualities, I'm 100% potty trained. Not a single accident since arriving at my current foster home, which I've been told is quite impressive. I will also snuggle up in my crate and sleep soundly through the night. During the day, I'm still working on my crate manners and may sing you the occasional hound-dog ballad if I think I've been abandoned. The good news? My foster dad says I'm super smart and already making great progress.

Most of the time, I'm a pretty quiet guy. I don't get territorial when visitors stop by, and I'm happy to make new friends, both human and canine. That said, the squirrels and bunnies in the yard should probably stay alert because I take neighborhood security very seriously. Consider your perimeter protected.

I love playing with the kids in my foster home (ages 5 and 7), and I've even helped teach them the importance of cleaning up their toys. To be fair, some of their things look an awful lot like dog toys, and I do enjoy a good chew session. I'm working hard on my "leave it" command and redirect easily when reminded.

If you're looking for a loyal sidekick who will love you fiercely, snuggle deeply, learn quickly, and keep your rugs accident-free, then I just might be your guy.

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee:

10. Jackpot

Adult (3 years 1 month) · Male · Beagle / Mixed (short coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Jackpot's story didn't start out easy, but he's proving every day that resilience, love, and a wagging tail can overcome just about anything.

This handsome beagle mix was found as a stray alongside his brother after what appears to have been a rough start in life. When he arrived in rescue, he was underweight and suffering from mange. Thanks to good care, regular meals, and lots of love, Jackpot is healing beautifully. His fur is growing back, his confidence is blossoming, and he's just looking to add a few more pounds while he waits for his forever family.

Read more about Jackpot

If you're looking for a dog that will keep you laughing, keep you active, and then curl up next to you for a nap, Jackpot might just be your winning ticket!

This playful boy is full of personality. He loves tug-of-war, playing with other dogs, and collecting toys from his canine friends whenever the opportunity presents itself. Jackpot adores toys of all kinds, especially the ones he can enthusiastically de-stuff and "customize."

Like any true hound, Jackpot experiences life through his nose. Walks are one of his favorite activities, and he's always ready to investigate every interesting scent along the way. Squirrels are his greatest weakness. Spotting one may result in some very dramatic beagle commentary as he expresses his disappointment that they refuse to come down and play.

Despite his energetic side, Jackpot is also a champion cuddler. Personal space isn't really his thing. He loves being close to his people and can often be found stretched across the back of the couch, keeping watch over his kingdom while enjoying a well-earned nap.

Jackpot gets along well with the cats in his foster home. He's curious and sometimes a little too enthusiastic when meeting feline friends, but his intentions are friendly. He also loves people of all ages and is happy to make friends with just about everyone he meets.

He's a wonderful passenger in the car and rides quietly on trips. At home, he sleeps through the night and settles nicely once it's bedtime. Jackpot may let you know he'd rather not be in his kennel at first, but after a little protesting, he relaxes and settles down.

Jackpot is highly food motivated, which makes training a lot of fun. He is currently working on housetraining, leash manners, and learning that good things come to dogs who have a little self-control. He's smart, eager, and making great progress every day.

Jackpot would thrive in a home that enjoys walks, playtime, and continuing his training. In return, he'll provide endless entertainment, expert squirrel surveillance, loyal companionship, and all the snuggles you could ever want.

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee:

15. Maui

Adult (1 year 2 months) · Male · Great Dane / Poodle (Standard) / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Hey, it’s Maui here! My foster mom wrote my bio a couple weeks ago, but I’ve been learning a LOT since then. Let me give you the good scoop…
Yes, I jump. It’s because I love her, duh. But apparently, if I keep all four paws on the floor, I get TREATS?! Who would’ve thought no hugs meant snacks? I still forget sometimes, but I’m learning! I’ve also learned not to nibble so much. Surprisingly, treats taste much better than people. Have I mentioned I LOVE treats? All kinds. Yummy.
Now, one weakness I’m still working on… socks. I like to eat them. Maybe it’s the sweaty-feet flavor? Mom says they’re dangerous to swallow, so they have to stay out of reach. As she tells foster dad, “If you don’t leave them lying around, he can’t get them.” Don’t worry—we’re still training Dad. He’ll get there.
My leash manners? Getting pretty amazing! I figured out that walking nicely earns me—you guessed it—TREEEEATS! I hardly pull anymore. When I do, Mom asks me to sit until I’m calm, and then we keep going. When you’re a guy on a mission, stopping is inconvenient, so I’m learning to focus and keep walking nicely. Mostly.
Off duty, I love couch cuddles and sleeping next to my foster mom. Women are usually my favorite, but my foster dad is soft-spoken and doesn’t have a deep voice, so I feel comfortable with him, too. I do best with someone calm, patient, and clear about what they want me to do. Firm directions are okay. Yelling? No thank you. I have feelings, you know.
I’m also still learning about sharing. If my foster brother tries to take my toys, I can get vocal and protective of them. I haven’t hurt him, but I need my people to give us space and help manage those moments. I prefer eating in my kennel or a separate room, where I don’t have to worry about another dog coming near my food. Sometimes I get loud because I’m worried I’ll have to compete for it. Mom is helping me learn that my meals will always come and I can eat in peace.
Seriously though, have I mentioned the treat lady? Her supply seems unlimited. Excellent household management, if you ask me.
I’m potty trained, too! Mom thinks she’s taught me to go on command. What I’ve learned is that a pee earns one treat and a poop earns TWO. We both think we’re training each other, and honestly, it’s working.
I haven’t had any regular potty accidents in the house. Okay, there was ONE little excitement tinkle when Mom came home after a long day. I was just soooo happy to see her. Whoops. Love leaked a little.
Also, have I mentioned my impeccable recall skills? Call my name and I’ll come right to you. I do not think a non fenced in yard is a deal breaker in my future!

Read more about Maui

I really love my foster family, but Mom says someday I’ll find a forever family of my very own. Someone who will keep teaching me, understand the things I’m still working on, and let me curl up beside them when the day is done.

I believe her. Because surely nobody with that many treats would lie to me.

16. Hammy

Adult (1 year 8 months) · Male · Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Hi my names Hammy and I’m so excited to be best friends. I’m a year and a half old and everything still seems so new and exciting!

I have lots of energy and love to play which sometimes gets me into trouble. Mostly I only get into trouble when I play keep away with my friends shoes and socks. I never chew them up but boy is it fun to run around the house with them.

Read more about Hammy

I’m working on walking with a leash and that goofy gentle leader thing (I really don’t like that thing). Please be patient with me while I’m learning I just want to run and I want you to come with me so I pull sometimes too hard, after a little bit I can relax a little and enjoy the scenery.

Toys are fine and I can and occasionally do play fetch, but my favorite thing is to wrestle my doggy friends and chase them around. My current foster mom has a big 100lb dog, a kitty, and an 11year old child that I enjoy although the kitty isn’t so sure about me-I don’t chase her at all.

I need to have a home with a fence or a long run line so I can play with friends and get some energy out.

I love food and treats and bones are my new favorite, which is good cuz foster mom says I’m skinny.

I’ve only had one accident in the house, but that was because I had a belly ache otherwise I happily go potty outside (once you catch me). I do well in my kennel during the day (but I do bark a few times before settling in) and I get to sleep on the couch for bedtime and sprawl out with all my toys I’ve been told I’m a good boy for not getting into trouble on my own overnight.

I’m learning my boundaries with my humans and my animal friends. I found out they don’t always want to play like me, but I’ll happily lean in for any affection. I love getting pets, and kisses, and sniffing those I love. When I cuddle you I want to be right on top of you but because I’m a medium sized dog I find that’s not always welcomed either.

I’m learning commands like: no, stay, sit, come, and off. I could benefit from training and foster mom says she’s going to bring me soon :)

I’m a really good, smart, and loving boy. My FURever home and people should be familiar with big high energy dogs who just need a proper outlet to tire me out. I love to sniff and search being that I’m part wolfhound I’d love to do more of that! I play hard and would benefit from an older dog who can show me the ropes and teach me how to be part of the pack.

I can’t wait to make new best friends and find my FURever.

17. Sir Skedaddleton

Adult (1 year) · Male · Collie / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Meet Sir Skedaddleton — Your Future Adventure Buddy!

Ready to add a whole lot of fun, love, and happy zoomies to your life? Meet Sir Skedaddleton, a handsome Border Collie mix born around October 2025, weighing in at approximately 34 pounds, with a big personality and an even bigger heart! This friendly, energetic young gentleman is ready to leave his stray days behind and skedaddle straight into his forever home. He loves meeting new people, making doggy friends, and spreading happiness wherever his paws take him. Could you be the lucky human he’s been waiting for? ❤️

Read more about Sir Skedaddleton

Sir Skedaddleton is a social butterfly who thinks everyone is a potential best friend! He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and is always excited to make new pals. Cats, on the other hand, might find his enthusiasm a little overwhelming. He may try to chase them because he thinks they’d make fantastic playmates - but doesn't hurt them, so a cat used to dogs would be best. And if you love adventures, this boy is ready to tag along! He travels beautifully in the car and has the sweetest little quirk: he may gently try to hold your hand while you drive. Talk about a devoted co-pilot!

Don’t let all that youthful excitement fool you—Sir Skedaddleton is one smart cookie! He’s already house-trained and crate-trained, knows “sit” and “shake,” and is eager to learn even more. He wants to make his people happy and would love a family ready to help him polish his manners. He’s still working on walking nicely on a leash, and when the world is calling his name, he can pull with all the enthusiasm of a kid heading to a candy store. With patience, positive reinforcement, and a little practice, he’s sure to keep making great progress!

As a young Border Collie mix, Sir Skedaddleton has brains, energy, and a serious talent for turning an ordinary day into an adventure. He enjoys joyful bursts of zoomies and would make a fantastic companion for someone who loves hiking, running, agility, or simply getting outside and exploring. He has a playful puppy side, too, and may jump up or get a little mouthy when he’s excited. Because of that, a home with older children who can help guide his enthusiastic play style would be the best fit.

The good news? Sir Skedaddleton doesn’t need a royal estate or a fancy throne. He just needs a loving family, some fun adventures, and people who will help him grow into the amazing dog he’s meant to be. He has moderate exercise needs, low grooming needs, and no special fencing requirement. He’s friendly with new people and doesn’t require an experienced dog owner—just someone willing to continue his training and give him the love and guidance every young pup deserves.

Sir Skedaddleton is ready to trade his rescue story for a happily-ever-after filled with belly rubs, outdoor adventures, new tricks, and a family to call his own.

So, who’s ready to welcome this lovable little king into their kingdom?

Apply to adopt Sir Skedaddleton and let the skedaddling, snuggling, and adventure-filled memories begin! ❤️

18. Davie Jones

Adult (1 year 3 months) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Hi, my name is Davie Jones. I may only have one eye, but that does not stop me from
being a sweet loving boy with a big heart who adores his humans.
I’m a bright and happy guy filled with curiosity, kindness and the desire to please. I love
carrying my toys around, am good at entertaining myself, enjoy belly rubs and like to
play tug with my canine sister. Love walking in the park every day and sniffing out all the
good smells. I get along great with the senior resident dog and cat even though the cat
keeps her distance.
I’m full of curiosity and get excited around new people and dogs. When we first meet I
like to jump up for attention, but also am very gentle. For that reason I would probably
do best in a home without small children. I keep working hard on my basic obedience
and manners. I may alert you to strangers in the neighborhood but I’m working on
calming my bark. I’m a playful guy with lots of energy, so it would be great if I had a
fenced in yard to enjoy some puppy zoomies.
I learn quickly and know sit, down, and leave it. I am kenned trained and go into my
kennel and sleep throughout the night. My people are typically home during the day, but
we are working on my confidence to be alone while waiting for them to return. I am
house trained and have only had one accident in the house.
Davie is delightful and is going to be a wonderful addition to a loving, active home. He is
still learning and would do best with a family who can give positive reinforcement and
continue to help build his confidence and good manners. With a little patience and a
kind voice…you’ll see his silly, affectionate personality. This sweet boy is looking for the
loving forever home he deserves.

19. Jack Adams

Young (8 months) · Male · Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Hi, I'm Jack Adams!

I'm a sweet, happy puppy who's looking for a family to call my very own. I can be a little shy when we first meet, but if you give me a little time and patience, I'll warm up and become your loyal best friend.

I'm still a puppy, so I have some energy and love to play! My favorite thing is hanging out with other dogs—I haven't met one that I didn't want to be friends with. I'd love a home with a canine sibling or plenty of opportunities to make new dog friends.

Read more about Jack Adams

My foster family says I seem to be potty trained, and I'm a champ in my kennel. I can stay in it for a full work or school day without any problems. I'm also learning to walk on a leash, and while I'm not perfect yet, I'm getting better every day. Car rides are pretty easy for me too, so I'm happy to tag along on your adventures.

I really love kids, but because I'm still young and sometimes forget how big and excited I can be, I'd probably do best with older children who won't get accidentally knocked over during playtime.

Cats? Well...they're just a little too interesting for me! I think I'd be happiest in a home without feline friends where I don't have to resist the urge to chase them.

If you're looking for a sweet, playful puppy who's ready to learn, loves other dogs, and just needs a little time to show you his wonderful personality, I might be the perfect addition to your family.

I'm ready to find my forever home. Maybe it's with you?

Love,

Jack Adams

20. Kootenay

Adult (2 years 1 month) · Male · Shepherd / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Fridley

Woof! My name is Kootenay but my foster mom calls me Koot and my foster dad calls me Crash Van Koot, but I answer to almost anything because I want to be near you! I am a big boy and love in big ways too! I want to be on the couch with you, in bed with you, and anywhere you are! I am a silly boy that loves giving kisses and I want my own forever home!

Read more about Kootenay

Let me tell you about myself. I love being with other dogs and would need a doggy friend in my new home. I am not sure about cats so probably would be best without them in my new home. I love to play, chase, and wrestle with other dogs. I also just found out that I love water! My foster parents put out a doggy pool and I jumped right in and will lay there in the water! I am fully potty trained, I have done great meeting other people, and I even like older, respectful kids!

I am left out to roam when my family leaves and I do not destroy or damage anything. I do not like to be left in a kennel due to past trauma, but I will go in one to eat my food. I am learning how to get in and out of the car but once I am in, I ride well in the car! I of course like toys, dog bones, and treats but I really want to meet you!

Adopting a dog in Fridley

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
