About MeHello there, friends! My name is Zyggy, and I am the bundle of fun and sunshine you’ve been missing! I’m the life of every party—trust me on that! I’m spunky, full of energy, super smart, and, as you can clearly see, cute as a button! I’m great with every animal and human I meet. I’m currently working on my potty training and doing sooooo good! I’m also crate trained, although if I had my way, I’d much rather be hanging out with my people. Even though I’m a little guy, I can handle stairs like a champ! I’m not leash trained just yet, but I’m a smart boy, so I’m sure I’ll master that in no time.

2. Bennie
Young (3 months 6 days) · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier · 27 mi from Princeton

Meet Bennie!
Professional Snuggler • Treat Enthusiast • Zoomie Champion
Name: Bennie (aka Benji, Bennie Boo, Bennie Boy)
Age: Approximately 3.5 months
Size: 13 pounds of puppy sweetness and still growing!
Activity Level: Moderate! I love a good nap, snuggle session, and occasional burst of puppy zoomies. Play hard, nap harder!
Favorite Activities: Snuggling, sunbathing, exploring, chasing kiddos, hunting for treats, and taking very important naps!
Read more about Bennie
Things I Know: I’m a smart little cookie, especially when food is involved! I’m learning to sit, wait patiently for meals, and go to the door when I need to potty. I’m making great progress with potty training and my kennel routine, with just a few puppy oopsies along the way!
Things I’m Learning: The world can be a little scary! I’m practicing leash walking, building confidence, and learning that loud noises, barking dogs, and even the wind aren’t so frightening. A little reassurance (and a treat!) goes a long way.
Kids: LOVE them! Running, chasing, playing, giving kisses, and snuggling are my specialties!
Dogs: I do well with dogs of all sizes! I currently live with two large senior dogs and know when to give them space. Loud barking can still startle me, though!
Cats: Unknown, but slow introductions would be best.
Car Rides: I’m a good passenger! New places can make me nervous, so I appreciate having my humans nearby.
Bennie is a sweet, silly, affectionate little guy who’s slowly coming out of his shell! He’s incredibly food motivated (he already knows where the treat pantry is), eager to learn, and happiest when he’s close to his people.
He’s a sensitive soul who seeks comfort when something startles him, but his confidence grows a little more every day!
His favorite thing? SNUGGLING! He loves tucking his head between your collarbone and jaw and falling asleep as close as possible. Talk about a heart-melter!
Bennie does well in his kennel during the day, sleeps soundly with his foster family at night, and continues to make great progress with potty training.
His perfect home? A loving, patient family ready to help him build confidence, continue training, and enjoy endless cuddles. Adopter needs to have a solid training plan.
If you’re looking for a sweet, playful, treat-loving little shadow with a heart of gold, Bennie Boo might just be your boy!

About MeOh hai! I'm Tangier! A 9-year-old Pomeranian mix with a big personality and even bigger opinions. If I'm being honest I'm the classic cranky old man—I'm the boss, and I'm not shy to let you know it! I get along well with other dogs, though. I also get along with children! That being said, they should be older, considerate kids, who respect me and my space. I'm a mighty hunter like a good dog! Although I do have a high prey drive, so... I'm not a great match for homes with cats or small pets.Toys are my absolute favorite—especially anything that squeaks! I’ll happily spend my day supervising the household, chewing on my beloved stuffies, and offering my enthusiastic—and very vocal—commentary.I'm crate-trained and used to wearing belly bands as I continue to work on potty training.

Are you ready for a bundle of fun and excitement?!? If so, HERE I AM!! I’m a fun, energetic, and smart boy who is always ready for my next adventure! I LOVE everyone I meet, and I’m pretty sure everyone loves me right back! I’m doing really well with my potty training, and I’m learning all about crate training. I can settle down nicely in a kennel, but we’re still working on making the whole crate-training thing a little easier for me. I have lots of energy, and when I haven’t had a chance to run, play, and get all that energy out, I’m not quite ready to settle into my kennel.Because I’m such an active guy, I’ll do best with an active person or family who loves being outdoors and wants a four-legged adventure buddy to join them.

Hello there, everyone! Are you looking for a faithful sidekick to share life’s adventures with? If so, I’m the guy for you!I love going on walks, spending time with my people, and simply hanging out together. I’m good with other dogs, but I’d also be perfectly happy being the only furry family member in the home. What I really want is a family who enjoys having their dog around, so a home where my people are around more often than they’re away would be ideal for me. I’m potty trained and crate trained, although I’ll be honest—I’m not a big fan of hanging out in a crate. I’d much rather be out with my people! I enjoy toys, but I’m also perfectly content just relaxing and keeping you company.

12. Bella
Senior · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed · 27 mi from Princeton

Meet BellaSometimes life changes in an instant. After spending nearly eight years with the family she loved, Bella suddenly found herself back in the shelter when her owner could no longer keep her due to housing. Understandably, she was heartbroken. The noisy shelter was incredibly stressful for her, and despite the staff's best efforts to help her cope, all Bella really needed was a soft bed, kind people, and a place to feel safe again.Thankfully, The Rescue Crew was able to give her exactly that—and almost immediately, Bella's true personality began to shine. This sweet girl is proof that age is just a number.
Read more about Bella
At 10 years old, Bella still has plenty of pep in her step and doesn't act like a senior one bit! Whether she's heading out for a walk, greeting new friends, or happily trotting around the yard, she's full of life and always ready to be part of whatever you're doing. If you so much as glance in Bella's direction, she's already making her way over for pets. She's the kind of dog who gently tucks her head under your hand or arm, quietly asking for just a little more affection. The more love you give, the happier she is.Bella is truly one of those easy, "just fits right into the family" kind of dogs. She is: Fully potty trained Crate trained (she may sing you a little song at first because she'd rather be with you, but settles in nicely) Walks beautifully on a Gentle Leader Eager to please and responds well to commands Friendly with everyone she meetsShe's also officially kid-approved! Bella recently met children ages 6 and 8 and was wonderful with both of them, happily greeting them with her signature tail wags and full-body wiggles. While Bella enjoys chasing squirrels and chipmunks, so a home without cats may be the best fit, she has been calm around other dogs and isn't reactive on walks. With slow, thoughtful introductions, we think she'd likely enjoy having a canine companion. And one more thing...Bella has a very special talent. Her adorable snores just might become your favorite bedtime soundtrack. Think less "freight train" and more "instant white noise machine." They're oddly comforting and guaranteed to make you smile.Bella has already experienced what it's like to lose the home she loved. Now she's looking for the family who will remind her that the very best chapters are still ahead.Life has thrown Bella more than one unexpected curveball, but through it all she's remained incredibly loving, trusting, and ready to share her whole heart with the people around her. If you're looking for a loyal companion who is affectionate, well-mannered, easy to live with, and ready to shower you with unconditional love, Bella may be the perfect match. Senior (7 years 11 months) · Male · Beagle · 30 mi from Princeton

8 YEARS OF LOVE, ONE BROKEN HEART, AND A WHOLE LOT OF BEAGLE LEFT TO GIVE. MEET TOBY!
Toby wasn't supposed to be looking for a new family at 8 years old.
This sweet Beagle boy had a home. He had a person. He had a life he knew and loved. But sadly, when his beloved owner passed away, Toby's entire world changed overnight.
Now, at 8 years young, Toby is searching for someone to love him through the next chapter of his life.
And trust us, this handsome little guy has SO much love left to give!
A LITTLE ABOUT TOBY!
Age: 8 years young, with plenty of Beagle charm!
Read more about Toby
Dog friendly: Yes! Toby gets along with other dogs and would be happy to have canine companions!
Cat friendly: Absolutely! This sweet boy is good with feline friends, too!
Personality: Toby is an incredibly sweet boy who is understandably feeling a little confused and anxious right now. After losing his person and everything familiar, who could blame him? He just needs a patient, loving family to help him feel safe and secure again.
Fitness goals: Let's just say Toby has been enjoying the good life a LITTLE too much. He's currently sporting some extra Beagle fluff and will need a family committed to helping him shed a few pounds at a safe, healthy pace.
Think leisurely walks, appropriate portions, and a whole lot of encouragement. Toby is officially entering his fitness era!
But here's the thing about Toby.
He doesn't know he's considered a senior.
He doesn't know he's carrying a few extra pounds.
And he certainly doesn't understand why the person he loved isn't coming home.
All he knows is that his world has changed, and he's waiting for someone to make it feel right again.
Toby doesn't need a perfect family. He just needs a family who will love him.
Someone who understands that adjusting takes time. Someone who will celebrate the little victories as his confidence returns. Someone who will give him the security of knowing he's finally home again.
At 8 years old, Toby deserves more than uncertainty. He deserves cozy beds, sniff-filled walks, gentle affection, and a family who will cherish every single day with him.
His first chapter was filled with love. Let's make sure his next chapter is, too.

River is on his way to us from Louisiana, where there are far too many dogs and very few humans who care. The dogs there are just trying to survive each day, with only the rescuers to look out for them. River has been waiting in rescue for his forever home for far too long, and he is exactly the kind of dog UDR strives to help.

When he arrives, River will be fostered in a home with other Danes, so he’ll have friends to enjoy and keep him company. He is crate and house trained, rock solid, and has truly been there, done that. He will be going through heartworm treatment once he is with us, but we don’t want him to wait any longer. We would love to find his happily ever after soon, even while he is in treatment. River has spent his life far to long waiting and we know moving him to our rescue was the right thing for him. Let's find him a forever home. He is so deserving!!!!

18. Scooby
Adult (5 years) · Male · Doberman Pinscher · 30 mi from Princeton

Scooby was saved with just HOURS LEFT after landing on the euthanasia list. This handsome boy was running out of time, but someone saw that his life was worth saving. Now, we get to show the world what an incredible dog he truly is. And honestly? Scooby might just be the whole package. This boy is potty trained, knows how to listen, follows directions, and is eager to learn. He’s treat-motivated and can pick up new commands in just 2–3 repetitions when treats are involved. He walks beautifully off leash with his person and enjoys getting out for adventures, including hikes. Scooby gets along with other dogs when given slow, proper introductions.
Read more about Scooby
He’s also living proof that a big dog doesn’t have to make a big fuss about everything. He ignores his foster’s chickens and remains calm around other animals, even when other dogs are barking. When something catches his attention on a hike, he’ll stop and observe until he’s satisfied there’s no threat rather than immediately reacting. Inside the home? He’s a dream. Scooby isn’t destructive, enjoys a good chew stick, and simply wants to be near his person. But here’s where this big guy will steal your heart… Scooby is a certified LOVE BUG. He wants to be petted on his nose and head all day, every day. He’s happiest just being close to his human, soaking up affection and reminding you that sometimes the best part of life is having a loyal companion by your side. Think about it. A dog who listens, learns quickly, enjoys adventures, can coexist peacefully with other animals, knows his manners, and wants nothing more than to love his people. This is the dog who was almost out of time. Scooby deserved more than the final hours he was given. He deserved a chance to be someone's best friend, hiking buddy, couch companion, and forever shadow. Now he needs someone to give him the one thing rescue cannot promise forever: a home of his own. Could that be you? If you're looking for a wonderful companion to welcome into your life, please consider Scooby. He has so much love to give, and his next chapter deserves to be filled with safety, adventures, affection, and the promise that he will never have to wonder if his time is running out again. Scooby is ready for his happily ever after. Let's make sure this boy's story ends with a family of his own. 19. Brandy
Adult (5 years 7 months) · Female · Doberman Pinscher · 30 mi from Princeton

Meet Brandy, a stunning 5-year-old, CAT friendly, AKC red Doberman beauty who is every bit as sweet as she is beautiful!
Brandy has spent nearly her entire life devoted to one person. Since she was just 10 weeks old, she lived with her elderly human as his companion, and in true Doberman fashion, she took that job very seriously. Unfortunately, her owner recently had to move into assisted living, and his family made the difficult decision to find Brandy a new home where she can receive all the love, attention, and companionship she deserves.
Read more about Brandy
Brandy is a typical Dobe when it comes to her home and her person. She bonds closely with her human and will absolutely let strangers know she is there when they enter her territory. Once she knows you, though, you'll quickly see the sweet girl behind that beautiful red exterior.
Brandy has done well with the other dogs in her home. Any introductions to dogs or other pets should be done slowly, correctly, and with plenty of time for everyone to become comfortable.
Brandy has spent the last five years being someone's loyal companion, and now she's looking for someone who will be hers. She deserves a home that understands the devotion, intelligence, and protective nature that comes with loving a Doberman—and, most importantly, a family ready to make her part of their world again.
This red beauty has so much love and loyalty left to give. Could Brandy be your girl?

20. Klaus
Adult (2 years 10 months) · Male · Doberman Pinscher · 30 mi from Princeton

Meet Klaus! Handsome doesn't begin to cover it. This sweet, approximately 3½-year-old neutered Doberman is a gentle soul with a heart as big as his ears are perky, and he's ready to find the family he's been dreaming about.
Klaus loves people of all ages, and he's a total pro with kids. He even has a 4-year-old human buddy who thinks he hung the moon. He's equally smooth with other dogs, getting along with both boys and girls, though he'd really love a female canine companion to share the couch with. Fair warning: Klaus is not a fan of cats, so his forever home needs to be cat-free.
Read more about Klaus
Klaus is a smart cookie, too. He knows his basic commands and has an excellent recall, so when you call, he comes running (probably with a goofy grin). He's never possessive of his food or toys, and he is affectionate to the core, the kind of dog who will happily lean into you for one more cuddle.
He's up to date on his vaccinations and is currently being treated for allergies. Like any good student, Klaus has one subject he's still working on: leash walking. With a little patience, structure, and continued training, he'll be strutting down the sidewalk like a champ.
Klaus has so much love to give. All he needs is a family who will offer patience, guidance, and most of all, a permanent place to call home. Could that be you?

Adopting a dog in Princeton
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
