I’m spunky, full of energy, super smart, and, as you can clearly see, cute as a button! I’m great with every animal and human I meet. I’m currently working on my potty training and doing sooooo good! I’m also crate trained, although if I had my way, I’d much rather be hanging out with my people. Even though I’m a little guy, I can handle stairs like a champ! I’m not leash trained just yet, but I’m a smart boy, so I’m sure I’ll master that in no time.

2. Bennie

Young (3 months 6 days) · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier · 9 mi from Ramsey

Meet Bennie!

Professional Snuggler • Treat Enthusiast • Zoomie Champion

Name: Bennie (aka Benji, Bennie Boo, Bennie Boy)

Age: Approximately 3.5 months

Size: 13 pounds of puppy sweetness and still growing!

Activity Level: Moderate! I love a good nap, snuggle session, and occasional burst of puppy zoomies. Play hard, nap harder!

Favorite Activities: Snuggling, sunbathing, exploring, chasing kiddos, hunting for treats, and taking very important naps!

Read more about Bennie

Things I Know: I’m a smart little cookie, especially when food is involved! I’m learning to sit, wait patiently for meals, and go to the door when I need to potty. I’m making great progress with potty training and my kennel routine, with just a few puppy oopsies along the way!

Things I’m Learning: The world can be a little scary! I’m practicing leash walking, building confidence, and learning that loud noises, barking dogs, and even the wind aren’t so frightening. A little reassurance (and a treat!) goes a long way.

Kids: LOVE them! Running, chasing, playing, giving kisses, and snuggling are my specialties!

Dogs: I do well with dogs of all sizes! I currently live with two large senior dogs and know when to give them space. Loud barking can still startle me, though!

Cats: Unknown, but slow introductions would be best.

Car Rides: I’m a good passenger! New places can make me nervous, so I appreciate having my humans nearby.

Bennie is a sweet, silly, affectionate little guy who’s slowly coming out of his shell! He’s incredibly food motivated (he already knows where the treat pantry is), eager to learn, and happiest when he’s close to his people.

He’s a sensitive soul who seeks comfort when something startles him, but his confidence grows a little more every day!

His favorite thing? SNUGGLING! He loves tucking his head between your collarbone and jaw and falling asleep as close as possible. Talk about a heart-melter!

Bennie does well in his kennel during the day, sleeps soundly with his foster family at night, and continues to make great progress with potty training.

His perfect home? A loving, patient family ready to help him build confidence, continue training, and enjoy endless cuddles. Adopter needs to have a solid training plan.

If you’re looking for a sweet, playful, treat-loving little shadow with a heart of gold, Bennie Boo might just be your boy!

Are you ready for a bundle of fun and excitement?!? If so, HERE I AM!! I’m a fun, energetic, and smart boy who is always ready for my next adventure! I LOVE everyone I meet, and I’m pretty sure everyone loves me right back! I’m doing really well with my potty training, and I’m learning all about crate training. I can settle down nicely in a kennel, but we’re still working on making the whole crate-training thing a little easier for me. I have lots of energy, and when I haven’t had a chance to run, play, and get all that energy out, I’m not quite ready to settle into my kennel.Because I’m such an active guy, I’ll do best with an active person or family who loves being outdoors and wants a four-legged adventure buddy to join them.

12. Bella

Senior · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed · 9 mi from Ramsey

Meet BellaSometimes life changes in an instant. After spending nearly eight years with the family she loved, Bella suddenly found herself back in the shelter when her owner could no longer keep her due to housing. Understandably, she was heartbroken. The noisy shelter was incredibly stressful for her, and despite the staff's best efforts to help her cope, all Bella really needed was a soft bed, kind people, and a place to feel safe again.Thankfully, The Rescue Crew was able to give her exactly that—and almost immediately, Bella's true personality began to shine. This sweet girl is proof that age is just a number.

Read more about Bella

At 10 years old, Bella still has plenty of pep in her step and doesn't act like a senior one bit! Whether she's heading out for a walk, greeting new friends, or happily trotting around the yard, she's full of life and always ready to be part of whatever you're doing. If you so much as glance in Bella's direction, she's already making her way over for pets. She's the kind of dog who gently tucks her head under your hand or arm, quietly asking for just a little more affection. The more love you give, the happier she is.Bella is truly one of those easy, "just fits right into the family" kind of dogs. She is: Fully potty trained Crate trained (she may sing you a little song at first because she'd rather be with you, but settles in nicely) Walks beautifully on a Gentle Leader Eager to please and responds well to commands Friendly with everyone she meetsShe's also officially kid-approved! Bella recently met children ages 6 and 8 and was wonderful with both of them, happily greeting them with her signature tail wags and full-body wiggles. While Bella enjoys chasing squirrels and chipmunks, so a home without cats may be the best fit, she has been calm around other dogs and isn't reactive on walks. With slow, thoughtful introductions, we think she'd likely enjoy having a canine companion. And one more thing...Bella has a very special talent. Her adorable snores just might become your favorite bedtime soundtrack. Think less "freight train" and more "instant white noise machine." They're oddly comforting and guaranteed to make you smile.Bella has already experienced what it's like to lose the home she loved. Now she's looking for the family who will remind her that the very best chapters are still ahead.Life has thrown Bella more than one unexpected curveball, but through it all she's remained incredibly loving, trusting, and ready to share her whole heart with the people around her. If you're looking for a loyal companion who is affectionate, well-mannered, easy to live with, and ready to shower you with unconditional love, Bella may be the perfect match. 15. Toby easy going lowrider

Adult (5 years) · Male · Basset Hound / Beagle / Mixed (short coat) · 14 mi from Ramsey

Toby is a basset/beagle mix. He is around 5yrs old. He had a rough start in life, coming from an abusive situation we were told. For this reason, he can be leery of men, will growl when first meeting them, but hasn't bitten anyone. He needs someone who understands his past and goes slow and doesn't push his limits/scare him. Would do best with older children if they are in home, so they too can understand his situation/past. He is settling into his foster home and got neutered and vetted. So far he has shown to love car rides, likes to let his long ears and jowls flap in the wind (: He has meet and played with other foster dogs, males/females that are medium to large in size and has been playful and respectful of them. He also meet some foster kittens and didn't know what to think of their craziness. When they hissed at him, he did howl at them and scare them, but he seems like he would get along just fine with cats once he learns some boundaries with them. He does pull on a leash, do best with harness, his hound nose leads the way. He loves, loves, loves treats! He has been doing well with male in the home, taking treats and getting butt scratches from his foster mom's husband. He really has been a great dog per his foster mom and when everyone met him at vet clinic they were just swooning over him and his cuteness!!!

19. Blair sweetest, calm hound

Adult (6 years 1 month) · Female · Bluetick Coonhound (short coat) · 14 mi from Ramsey

Blair is a 6yr old female hound. We were told she is a purebred bluetick. She has lived with the same family since she was a puppy, but at no fault of her own, she is coming into rescue. Does well with all adults and children! Ignores cats. She is a very sweet dog. Enjoys being outside, but also loves cuddling and napping. She has never hunted. She has some of the longest ears we have ever seen! So velvety soft, how can you resist!!! She is very calm for being a hound. You can tell her "I love youuuuuuuuuuuu" and she will respond with a low, pitched howl back telling you she loves you too, so adorable!! Her foster mom has nothing but good to say about her!!!! She was a star when she visited resident's at the local nursing home for Halloween dressed as a big spider!

20. Rudy

Adult (3 years) · Male · Treeing Walker Coonhound / Mixed (short coat) · 14 mi from Ramsey

Rudy arrived to MN... ON A PLANE!! He was such a good boy on the flight and seemed to love to be up in the air. Rudy was found running as a stray in Ohio and was brought into an animal control facility, where he was at risk of euthanasia. We can tell he was fending for himself for a long time due to his extreme weight loss/body condition. We are guessing he is between 3 and 5yrs old. So far he has been a sweet boy, loving attention from his foster mom. Rudy is energetic and likes sniffing and being outside in the fenced in yard, but yet likes to be by you and know what you are doing. He is crated in the home when left alone. Working on potty training, as he appears to have been a dog that had been kept outdoors only, which unfortunately most hounds are. He does fine when strangers come by, seems to like all humans. He has been doing good with the other foster dogs, he has reacted back to a more dominant male, but he just got neutered and we are hoping this helps with that.

Adopting a dog in Ramsey

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
