1. Susie
Young · Female · Unknown breed (short coat) · 6 mi from East Freehold

Lovebug looking for a home.
Read more about Susie
Susie came to us scared and skinny not knowing how to be a dog. What she did come with was the sweetest disposition we’ve ever seen in a dog; pure love and joy. With time, patience and a lot of love from her foster family and the resident dogs, Susie is learning to trust and has blossomed into an amazing dog. Susie truly smiles when she is happy and does her squishy face when she wants to get close to you and get some pets. She has made leaps and bounds in learning how to be a dog. Susie is good with other dogs although personal space is not her thing so older/senior dogs who don’t like her puppy energy may not enjoy her company. She is good with kids but older children may be best since fast movements tend to scare her. We feel Susie is ready to find her forever family and make them as happy as she makes her foster family.
Susie likes:
Playing with dog toys (and your shoes should you leave them near where the toys are )
Cheese – she knows the morning lunch making routine and is often first there to get her cheese tax
Other dogs – she loves to play and run in the yard with other dogs. She takes her cues from them still as she still has some confidence to build
Kids – older kids preferred as quick movements make her nervous
Her crate – Susie’s crate is her safe place and her preferred place to be if there is a lot of noise or a lot of people to be around. She goes in and sleeps through the night and prefers it over even the couch most days
Looking out windows to see who else is walking by
Susie’s has a few requirements for her adoption.
A fully fenced 6 foot or higher decent size yard where she can play and run. This girl can jump! She does not like the leash so running and playing in the yard are her main source of exercise and enjoyment
At least one other dog who likes to play and will be willing to engage with her
Someone who is willing to keep a crate available to her for as long as she wants which may be forever
Someone who has patience to continue to work with her and help her be the best dog yet
If Susie, sounds like your girl, please put in application in and someone will reach out.
****Please note: Susie came to us with documentation of her name as Shiobhan. But that is a big name for a dog and her foster family felt Susie was a much better fit.

8. Rose
Adult · Female · Pug / Mixed (short coat) · 6 mi from East Freehold

Rose is estimated to be about 5 years old, and she is truly one of the sweetest girls you could ever meet. Rose’s life changed in an instant when her owner passed away, leaving behind seven dogs. While family and friends were able to take in four of them, Rose and two others came into our rescue. After losing the person she knew and loved, Rose is looking for a home where she can feel safe, cherished, and part of a family again. 9. Rosalyn
Adult · Female · Shepherd / Mixed · 9 mi from East Freehold

Hardcore For Pits
Rosalyn has been with us for just over a year. Her temporary spot was just that, temporary. We stretched it to a year and we can stretch no further.
If a foster home is not found she will be going into a kennel. We have given her a quiet, stress free environment and trained her with compassion and grace. We fear that all of the progress we have made with her will be lost.
Read more about Rosalyn
Rosalyn is smart, affectionate and playful. The one thing we have learned is that she is fearful. If you follow us you know that we have had and still have many fearful dogs and we get them where they need to be. We never rush things! She will take a bit of time to settle in but once she trusts you,
she is yours. Her favorite volunteer walker can do anything to her!
Rosalyn will need a foster or forever home with someone who will not push and just wait, an extremely hard thing to do.A dog like her is indeed special and we hope to find a person that will see her for who she is and take her home. If you have any interest please reach out to njshpetrescue@gmail.com with questions.

11. John
Adult · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier · 9 mi from East Freehold

Hardcore For Pits
Meet John! John is a 73# lap x velcro dog cross who’s currently living his best life with his foster mama. He truly embodies the drake lyric, “I only love my bed and my mama” except, he’s not sorry. While John may be the sweetest boy, who just wants to give & receive love his story could have ended much differently. Originally born into a home for breeding, & profitable purposes where he was constantly told to cap his emotions has left him confused. The fact that they didn’t want him to react to things that confuse or upset him has been proven to be the root of his anxiety which is maintained with once daily medications. Thanks to Hardcore4pits, & his foster mama, John is on the road to the good life.
Read more about John

With leashed introductions he’s ready to play hard, or ignore other pups depending on their demeanors and agendas. John’s BIG emotions make him unsuitable for children, or cats. John loves being outside, basking in the sun with his people & pups, while enjoying a woof pupsicle, or Barkbox super chewer toy! Adoption Fees: Dogs $100.00 Cats $45.00 Puppies $75 plus $50 refundable spay/neuter deposit Kittens $30 plus $50 refundable spay/neuter deposit Rabbits $35 Adoption Process Our friendly, knowledgable team of staff and volunteers would be glad to give you a tour of the shelter and discuss whether one of our furry friends is the right match for your home. Please click here for our location and visiting hours. The JSAC has careful policies on the placement of young animals, dominant breed dogs (Rottweilers, Shepherds, Akitas, etc) and we give preference to homes in the Eastern PA, New Jersey, Southern New York and Northern Delaware region (please note: we do not ship animals). We prefer homes in the region so that we can be a resource for the animals and their adopters. These policies and procedures are in place to protect everyone involved and are very common when rehoming animals, whether through a shelter or a rescue group. We do not have "same day" adoptions. Rather, an application for an animal is reviewed to ensure that 1) the home has taken good care of their other animals * 2) The animal is permitted in the home and 3) that it is the right home for the right animal (choosing dog that likes cats if cats already in household, etc..). Typically this process takes 24-48 hours. If a dog application is approved and there are other dogs in the home, we have the two (or more) dogs meet; many times if necessary.

Adopting a dog in East Freehold
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
