1. Bruno
Young (2 years 6 months) · Male · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Shih Tzu / Mixed (medium coat) · 15 mi from Lakewood

Meet Bruno -
A little time, a little trust, and a whole lot of love
!
❤️
Bruno may not be the kind of guy who runs up to greet every stranger, but give him a little time to get to know you, and you'll discover a sweet, affectionate boy who is happy to share his love with his people! Once he's comfortable, his loving personality shines through, and he'll make a wonderful companion.
Bruno has plenty of great qualities! He's crate trained, leash trained, and does well in the car. He's also good with other dogs and cats, so he may enjoy having some furry friends around.
Read more about Bruno
Bruno would do best in an adult-only home with a securely fenced yard where he can enjoy some outdoor time. He can be a bit skittish and has a tendency to try to escape, so a family willing to take extra precautions and provide a safe environment is important. He can also be somewhat protective of his home and people.
With moderate energy and exercise needs, Bruno would make a lovely companion for someone looking for a devoted friend. He doesn't need you to be his best friend the moment you meet him; he just needs a little time, patience, and understanding. Once you've earned his trust, you'll have a loving boy who is happy to call you his person.
Could Bruno be the loyal companion you've been waiting for? ❤️
Bruno is up to date on vaccines and tested negative for heartworm. Bruno has been s neutered and has a microchip. His adoption fee is $500.
Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. Meet Max — a tiny boy with a big heart who’s learning what it means to be loved.
Meet Max
A gentle little soul looking for a quiet home and someone who understands that trust takes time.
Max is shy and easily frightened by new people and places, but give him patience and space, and his sweet side begins to shine. Once he feels safe, he loves being close—curling up in your lap or following you from room to room.

He’d do best in a calm, adult-only home. A secure fenced yard and close supervision are important, as he may try to escape when scared. If he has a dog companion, a calm one would be best. He may also need patience with potty accidents when left alone.
Max doesn’t need you to rush him. Just give him time, kindness, and a safe place to belong.

21. Apache
Young (1 year 3 months) · Male · Pointer / Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 15 mi from Lakewood

Apache is in a New Jersey foster home and is ready to meet you!
Meet Apache! This special boy is believed to be a Pointer/Jack Russell Terrier mix and is the perfect medium-sized companion at about 40 pounds.
Apache’s start in life was heartbreaking; he was taken from an abusive owner having suffered a broken leg and possible gunshot wound. Thanks to one of our amazing rescue partners down south, he got the surgery he needed and handled 8 weeks of crate rest like a total champ! Now Apache is healed, healthy, and officially ready for his forever family!

Apache is a goofy, happy boy who adores attention and loves to be close to his people. He relaxes in the office while his foster mom works from home and curls up next to her on the couch as soon as she sits down. He’s great with his canine foster brother and will never turn down a game of tug or some friendly wrestling.
He’s perfectly house-trained, glad to settle in his crate, not destructive around the house, and rides nicely in the car. He has learned sit, is working hard on down, wait, and leave it, and has been wonderful at practicing recall on a 50-foot long line or off-leash in a fenced yard! His leash skills have gotten much better over the last few weeks, too! Apache doesn't mind being bathed and handled his nail trim and vet appointment without flinching.
This friendly boy even aced his cat test, and we think he would do well living alongside dog-savvy felines! While Apache still has some happy puppy energy, it’s not overwhelming and is easily burned off with a walk, a game of fetch, or some time with a chew toy or frozen enrichment activity.
Apache settled in very quickly to his NJ home and took to his foster parents right away, but after everything this sweet boy has been through, he can be nervous at times and may be apprehensive meeting some strangers. He has been absolutely wonderful with older and respectful kids, but the loud noises and sudden movements of young children can make him uneasy. Because of this, we are recommending a home with little ones ~10 years and up.
Apache may be a bit vocal at times when he hears unfamiliar noises outside or goes someplace new. He doesn't bark much, but may whine or whimper as he settles in.
He doesn’t let his past define him! Apache may need a little time to feel safe, but he’s all heart, all joy, and more than ready for a home of his own. Apache so deserves a second chance at the life he should have always had. If you’ve been looking for a sweet, resilient, and loving pup to complete your family, Apache may be your perfect match.
Apache is fixed and up-to-date on vaccines. His adoption donation is $500.

22. Rose
Adult · Female · Pug / Mixed (short coat) · 19 mi from Lakewood

Rose is estimated to be about 5 years old, and she is truly one of the sweetest girls you could ever meet. She is the kind of dog who simply wants to love and be loved—a devoted people dog whose happiest moments are spent close to her person, soaking up affection and giving it right back. Rose’s life changed in an instant when her owner passed away, leaving behind seven dogs. While family and friends were able to take in four of them, Rose and two others came into our rescue. After losing the person she knew and loved, Rose is looking for a home where she can feel safe, cherished, and part of a family again. Rose would do best in a home where someone is around more often, because being with her people is truly what she loves most. A fenced yard is also required for her. She is current on core vaccines, spayed, and microchipped. Rose came to us with double cherry eye and has already had surgery to correct it. Rose is currently in a foster home with other dogs and cats and gets along well with them.

Bringing a dog home to your cat
Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.
Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.
Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.
