Meet Jumba, a lovable Great Pyrenees and English Mastiff mix who is ready to win your heart with his sweet personality and wonderfully balanced puppy energy! This handsome boy has a medium activity level and a special knack for knowing when it’s time to play and when he should settle down. He loves spending time with his people, whether they have two legs or four, and shows wonderful compassion while happily matching your energy. Jumba can turn his playful puppy mode on and off, so he won’t wear you out by demanding to play 24/7!

Read more about Jumba in TN

Jumba is actively learning his manners and daily routines, and he’s picking up good habits quickly. He is crate trained and is working on his leash skills. Inside his crate, he is generally calm and quiet, with most of his puppy vocals reserved for letting you know when he needs a potty break. He has also shown that he can be calm and relaxed when the moment calls for it. One of his most adorable quirks? Instead of sleeping in a typical doggy position, Jumba prefers to curl up in a classic cat-bun pose!

This social fellow loves meeting new friends and has enjoyed opportunities to meet people through his foster home and veterinary visits. He has also been exposed to other dogs and is eager to meet them, especially when there’s a chance to play! Jumba has met cats too, and has shown gentle curiosity around them. While he hasn’t had the opportunity to spend time around children yet, he would likely do well with dog-savvy kids ages six and up, who can appreciate that he’s a big puppy still learning about the world. He doesn’t seem interested in digging, and his barking is about what you’d expect from a pup.

When the weather is pleasant, Jumba enjoys being outdoors, soaking up the sunshine, and exploring everything the world has to offer. He’s also a fan of chicken nuggets! Car rides are still a work in progress, and he hasn’t quite decided they’re cool yet. He’s also not a fan of getting soggy, so keeping this boy nice and dry is highly recommended unless you’re prepared for a little wet-weather protest!

Jumba’s ideal home would be with a moderately active family ready to help him continue learning and growing, preferably with another friendly dog to be his companion and playmate. A 5-foot securely fenced yard would give him a wonderful place to explore, sunbathe, and enjoy outdoor adventures. Most of all, Jumba is looking for a family who will appreciate his affectionate nature, respect his need for downtime, and help him become the best dog he can be. With his sweet heart, social spirit, and impressive ability to balance fun with relaxation, Jumba is sure to bring plenty of love and laughter to his forever home!

Read more about Pleekly in TN

Meet Pleekly, an adorable Great Pyrenees and English Mastiff mix who is ready to find his forever family! This mild-mannered, eager-to-please pup is a quick learner who is excited to discover the world and make his people proud. He’s working on his leash skills and learning household routines, but he catches on quickly and is happy to learn. One of the sweetest things about Pleekly is how he likes to walk right alongside you, hopping his way down the path while giving your hand an affectionate lick. He is crate-trained, has a medium activity level, and comes with a handy little on/off switch for puppy mode, so you can enjoy his playful side without being entertained by puppy antics every waking minute!

Pleekly is a social guy who loves making friends, whether they have four legs or two! He has been exposed to other dogs and enjoys playing with new canine pals. Having another friendly dog in his forever home would be perfect, especially one who can show him the ropes. He has also been around cats and shows interest while remaining gentle in their presence. Although he hasn't met children yet, we suspect he could do well with them; because he is going to be a big boy, a home with dog-savvy children ages 6 and up would be the best fit.

When it comes to house manners, Pleekly is a pleasantly quiet pup, making about the amount of noise you'd expect from a puppy and generally staying quieter indoors. In fact, he mostly speaks up when he needs to go potty! He hasn’t shown any interest in digging (yet). When the weather is lovely, you'll often find him happily rotating between his doghouse and a sunny patch of grass, soaking up the fresh air and enjoying the simple pleasures of a beautiful day. And when it's time to settle down for a nap, Pleekly has his own adorable style: he prefers to curl up in the classic cat bun position rather than flop upside down like a typical pup. And offer him a chicken nugget, and you will have a friend for life!

Pleekly would thrive in a moderately active home where he can enjoy companionship, keep his mind and body busy, and continue learning at his own pace. A 5-foot securely fenced yard would give him a safe place to explore, play, and enjoy the sunshine. Pleekly needs a family ready to help him grow into the wonderful companion he's meant to be. With his sweet nature, eagerness to learn, and irresistible combination of puppy hops and hand kisses, Pleekly is sure to bring plenty of smiles and affection to his forever home!

This gentle, affectionate girl adores attention and greets her people with pure joy every time she sees them. She loves cuddling with her humans and firmly believes that couches and beds are meant to be shared, so her forever family must be happy to welcome her onto the furniture!

Read more about Opal in NC

Opal is housebroken and learning basic commands. She has a medium activity level and absolutely LOVES being outdoors, especially exploring her yard and digging little dens to bury her favorite toys. She also enjoys spending time with her people and is always happy to soak up affection.

Opal is friendly with new people and has done well around other dogs, including playing in the yard with the resident 40-pound pup. She has grown especially close to her foster family's two children, ages 12 and 13, and could be happy in a home with or without kids or other dogs. She has met younger children on walks but hasn't shown much interest in little ones.

This sweet girl has a sensitive side when it comes to unfamiliar places and loud noises. Busy environments and passing cars can make her nervous, so she would do best in a quieter neighborhood. Opal's ideal home would have a 4-foot fenced yard where she can explore, dig, and hide her treasures. Most importantly, she needs a family who will shower her with love, include her in daily life, and happily share their couch and bed with her. NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog.

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.

They do wonderfully with children, get along with other dogs, and are comfortable around cats, too. They are happy to join you on outings and adventures, especially if a pup cup is involved! They also enjoy being groomed, basking in the warm sunshine, relaxing on a cool floor, and listening to a little Boz Scaggs. Meet Hayden, a handsome Pyr with a heart as big as his paws! Hayden was found as a stray in Georgia and taken to an animal shelter before NGPR brought him into rescue. Read more about Hayden in GA

Hayden is leash-trained and highly receptive to training, quickly picking up new things. He is currently working on “sit,” “leave it,” “bed,” and “come,” and is eager to learn. He has a moderate activity level and would be a wonderful companion for an active family. Hayden gets along beautifully with other dogs, including his foster’s Great Pyrenees and Chihuahua, and would love a home with a canine companion or two. He has also been exposed to both indoor and outdoor cats. He is very curious about them and simply wants to play, so he would do best with cats who are comfortable around dogs and tolerant of his playful interest.

Hayden has been wonderful with everyone he has met and absolutely loves people and their attention. He hasn’t been exposed to children yet, but given his sweet and gentle nature, he is expected to do well with older kids. Hayden does bark occasionally, usually when separated from his people, but he responds well when asked to stop while indoors. He enjoys a balance of indoor and outdoor time, but what he loves most is being with his people. At night, he settles quietly on his dog bed on the floor and sleeps peacefully through the night.

Hayden’s favorite treat is peanut butter, which is sure to win you a few extra tail wags! This beautiful boy truly is the epitome of sweetness, and his affectionate personality makes him a joy to have around. Hayden’s ideal home would be with an active, loving family, another dog or two to share life with, and a 5-foot securely fenced yard. If you’re looking for a loving companion who enjoys being close to his people, gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and is ready to keep learning and growing with his forever family, Hayden could be your PYR-fect match!

Fluffy is a sweet, affectionate Pyr who came to NGPR from a North Carolina shelter as an owner surrender for an unknown reason, and he’s now ready to find his forever person. He is housebroken, crate trained, leash trained, and knows “sit,” with lovely house manners. A medium-energy boy, Fluffy enjoys both indoor and outdoor time, especially walks, playtime, and running and rolling in the grass. He is the most affectionate guy with the sweetest puppy-dog eyes and loves resting his head against your leg for pets. He’s also wonderfully silly, with a hilarious “boot scoot” run that will keep you smiling!

Read more about Fluffy in NC

Fluffy is shy when meeting new people and has not yet been exposed to children, so a home with respectful introductions and appropriate supervision would be best. He has done well with both male and female big dogs and could happily live with or without canine companions, although he might enjoy having a friend to play with. He is shy around cats but doesn’t bother them, and he has shown little interest in the resident rabbits (who are separated by a gate).

He doesn’t dig, doesn’t appear to be an escape artist, and is quieter than the average Pyr - he is generally quiet in the house unless other dogs start howling, at which point he happily joins the chorus! If you howl at him, be prepared for a full-on Fluffy serenade. His ideal home would be a semi-active family who will include him in walks and playtime, with either a canine buddy or plenty of attention from his people. A 4-foot fenced yard would be appropriate, or he can be a leash-walk-only dog. He would also adore lots and lots of toys! - Balls, bones, stuffies - he loves them all! Fluffy is a wonderful “beginner” Pyr who is silly, playful, loving, and simply wants someone of his own to love and be loved by.

7. Bear in SC

Read more about Bear in SC

Meet Bear, the goofiest, most huggable teddy bear you'll ever meet! Bear was pulled from an animal shelter in South Carolina, and while his early history is a bit of a mystery, everything about his personality since says he's ready for his happily-ever-after. He's fully housebroken, and his leash manners currently sit at a respectable B- (and climbing every day!). He tolerates his crate just fine, but honestly doesn't need it much - he gets the run of the house for up to seven hours at a stretch while his foster family is out, and he's never chewed a thing or made a mess, proving he's more teddy bear than grizzly when left to his own devices. His house training and socialization are excellent.

Activity-wise, Bear is a moderate mover: he mostly likes to sleep the day away, but perks right up to chase and roughhouse with his Pyr housemate. He's not an escape artist or a runner and stays put in the fenced backyard without supervision. Bear gets along with both of his foster family's indoor cats, happily playing with the friendly one while giving the more standoffish cat its space, and he's equally easygoing with other dogs - he gets along great with his fellow foster Pyr and the family's mentor dog, a 45-pound female mix. Meeting new people is a treat for Bear, who just wants all the attention he can get; he even visits his foster dad’s office once a week to make new friends. And he did great meeting people of all ages at a cross country meet, where he found every unoccupied hand and put his head in it to be petted.

Given South Carolina's heat, Bear prefers short outdoor stints of 30 minutes or less, though he does love parking himself at the fence to bark hello (or maybe just announce himself) to passersby. Inside, he's a champion snuggler - he'll rest his face right in your lap or lean his head on your shoulder while you're sitting, though he's polite enough to stay off the beds and furniture entirely, simply by his own choice. Also, Bear believes in eating healthy, and his favorite snacks include broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower - Give him a bowl of California Blend and he’s a happy boy!

Bear has a jolly, goofy spirit - he trots around with a permanently silly grin, determined to be everyone's best friend, and follows his people from room to room like their own personal shadow. With his big, muppet-like look and his habit of nosing or gently “Pyr-pawing" you for pets whenever he's awake, Bear is basically a life-sized teddy bear who just wants to be loved. His ideal home would be moderately active - regular walks, backyard playtime behind a fence at least 4.5 feet tall, and ideally another dog to play with or someone home often enough to keep him well socialized. Bear is ready for a family of his very own to snuggle, and once he finds them, he'll be the most devoted, bear-hugging friend they could ask for.

Read more about Hobbes in CT

Meet Hobbes, a sweet and affectionate Pyr who is ready to find his foster or forever home! Currently staying in boarding, Hobbes was picked up as a stray in Tennessee, and now he’s hoping his next chapter will be filled with love, companionship, and a cozy place to call home. This easygoing boy has a medium energy level and a lovely, easy-care, shorter coat that makes grooming a breeze. He absolutely loves human attention, being petted, and following his people around. He can be a little shy when meeting new people in large groups, but he warms up quickly with one-on-one attention and soon shows his affectionate side. Hobbes does well on a leash, though he enjoys taking his time to meander and explore, and he already knows how to sit on command. He gets into the car and rides well in a crate, although longer trips can leave him feeling a bit carsick. Hobbes has been doing well with other dogs at doggie daycare and made lots of canine friends at an adoption event, where he also did well meeting children. Hobbes would likely thrive in a home with other dogs, gentle, dog-savvy children, and a 5-foot securely fenced yard. Most of all, he’s looking for someone who will appreciate his gentle nature, enjoy his affectionate company, and give him the chance to blossom into the wonderful companion he’s meant to be. Could Hobbes be the sweet new friend you’ve been waiting for?

For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.

We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes. You can see more of these beautiful dogs by clicking on Adoptable Dogs.

Read more about Lorelai in CT

Meet Lorelai, a sweet, gentle girl who seems to have been born to be everyone’s best friend! This lovely Pyr was found roaming the roads in Tennessee, but she hasn’t let her uncertain beginnings dim her loving spirit. She is housebroken, leash trained, and crate trained, making her a wonderful companion ready to settle into her forever home. Lorelai has a medium activity level and enjoys playing with other dogs in the yard, but she’s equally happy soaking up the sunshine or relaxing beside her favorite person. She prefers being indoors with her family and would love a home with a canine brother and a 4-foot fenced yard.

Lorelai absolutely adores people and is always excited to meet someone new. She wants all the attention she can get and is generous with her sweet, gentle hugs! She has the most irresistible ways of politely asking for affection, and even when she’s playing, she’s remarkably gentle. Before coming to her current foster home, Lorelai regularly visited a property where she interacted wonderfully with several young children. She happily accepted their hugs and pets and even let them walk her on a lead without any issues. She also befriended the family’s chunky goat and enjoyed hanging out with her! Lorelai doesn’t mind cats, either, and seems to do best with male dogs, and doesn’t appear to care for puppies.

When it comes to her favorite activities, brushing is high on the list and is one of the quickest ways to win her heart. She also enjoys car rides, sunshine, snuggles, and, of course, chicken nuggets! Rainy weather isn’t her favorite, and she may need some encouragement to venture outside when it’s wet. Loud noises can make her uncomfortable, too, so a patient, reassuring family will help her feel safe and secure.

Lorelai is truly a family dog with love to spare. She doesn’t care what kind of day you’ve had or what you’re going through - she has friendship to offer. She’ll gladly welcome her people, befriend her furry housemates, keep them company, and snuggle up with them, too. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who will make you feel like her favorite person every single day, Lorelai is ready to wrap you in a hug and steal your heart!

Adult · Female · Great Pyrenees (long coat) · 6 mi from Cold Spring

* Check Out My Video Album Below! *

Meet Wanda, a sweet Great Pyrenees who was a stray in Alabama, found her way to the animal shelter extremely underweight, and is now thriving in foster care while working on gaining another 25 pounds. She has long, soft fur which is currently shaved due to matting, but it's expected to grow back beautifully now that she's getting lots of attention and good groceries.

Read more about Wanda in AL

Wanda is housebroken, leash trained, and crate trained, and knows how to sit on command. She's a low-key, lazy girl who prefers being inside and enjoys watching the world go by, whether that's the neighbor's kids playing or cars driving down the street. Her foster family has a fenced yard, and Wanda has never tried to escape or run off. She's done great meeting new people, including at vet visits, though she will bark at the UPS guy. She will also bark at sirens, and sometimes she’ll even join in with a little howl! She hasn't been around children directly since her foster family doesn't have kids, but she watches the neighbor's children, who range from 8 to 15, with a lot of curiosity. She gets along well with both indoor and outdoor cats of all ages, seeming unbothered by them, and does well with other dogs of different sizes and energy levels, including her foster home's three resident dogs. Wanda loves to cuddle up with her furry foster siblings. She's shy at first around new dogs and takes some time to warm up. The one thing she prefers to do solo is eating, as she can be protective of her food around other pets, though this isn't an issue with humans. Storms don’t bother her, as she went through her first hurricane like a champ and did amazing!

Wanda is, at heart, a total cuddle-bug who will shove her paw in your face and swat you if you're not giving her enough attention. She loves sleeping on top of her people, curling up in soft blankets, and giving hugs - she'll trust fall into your arms, so be ready to catch her for that embrace! Bread is her favorite treat. She'd do best in a low volume home, as a leash-walk-only dog or with access to a 4-foot fenced yard, and while she'd be perfectly happy as an only pet, she'd also do well with one or two dog or cat siblings. Above all, Wanda is a sweet, affectionate snuggle-buddy who just wants your attention.

Read more about Kenzi in IN

Kenzi is a happy, athletic, fun-loving Pyr who seems to have a permanent smile on her face! She was found as a stray in Indiana after tornadoes hit the area, and she’s now ready to find an active family to call her own. Kenzi is super smart, eager to learn, housebroken, and leash trained. She is also crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night. Her favorite things in the world are playing and hanging out with other dogs, going for walks and hikes, and getting belly rubs. She’ll happily roll over for a tummy scratch and make it very clear that she’d prefer you never stop! She also loves treats, bully sticks, and chews, and she does great in the car.

Kenzi absolutely LOVES other dogs and must have a canine companion around her size who enjoys wrestling, running, and playing as much as she does. She gets along with both males and females, respects older dogs who prefer a quieter life, and would do well in a multi-dog household. She enjoys spending time outside, especially when another dog is out there with her, so a 6-foot fenced yard is a must. Although Kenzi loves people and happily makes new friends, she seems to love dogs even more! She has been friendly with everyone she's met, and even her vet's office and dog sitter adore her. She would be a great companion for an active family who enjoys outings to parks, walks, hikes, and kids' sporting events.

Kenzi has lived with 5 cats and will playfully chase them, but she doesn't hurt them. She responds to commands and redirects easily, and she stops when the cats hiss or swat at her. Her experience with children has been limited, but she should do well with children older than seven who understand and are comfortable around energetic dogs. Kenzi enjoys being both inside and outside with her family and canine buddies, but she doesn't like being alone (or storms). Fortunately, having another dog around helps her feel comfortable, even when her people leave the house. Kenzi's cheerful personality, boundless enthusiasm, and tremendous love for her dog friends make her a special girl. If you have an active home, a playful canine companion, and plenty of belly-rub time to spare, Kenzi may be the perfect addition to your family!

Meet River, a handsome boy with a joyful spirit and a heart as big as he is and plenty of affection to share. River truly comes alive when he is playing with other dogs, whether that play involves joining a game of chase or happily wrestling and rolling around on the ground - time with his canine friends brings him so much joy. River has also discovered the fun of toys and will toss a rope toy or investigate the newest chew bone. While he prefers to enjoy meals in a quiet spot of his own, he is wonderfully generous at playtime and happily shares his toys with his friends.

Read more about River in KY

As much as River loves to play, his sweetest quality may be how deeply he enjoys being close to his people. He will follow you from room to room, lean in for affection, and keep a curious eye on whatever you are doing. He loves walks, car rides, and exploring new places - open the car door and he is ready to share the next adventure with you. He also enjoys being brushed and has been cooperative for nail trims and ear cleanings. We do not know River’s past so while he may not have ever lived indoors, he is showing he quite enjoys the comforts of home. He keeps his area clean, is comfortable in a crate, and settles quietly. He is also making progress with leash manners and responds well to gentle reminders. River is currently working toward a healthy weight and can be a little selective about meals, so he will appreciate a family willing to help him discover his favorites.

River could thrive with a canine companion or as an only dog with regular opportunities to play with friends. He greeted cats with gentle curiosity and quickly lost interest, so he could likely share a home with one. Because this lovable boy is large and does not always realize his size, a home with older children would be the best fit. Like typical Great Pyrenees, he has a guardian bark and will make sure his family knows when something new approaches. River’s ideal adopter has big-dog experience, a 5-foot secure yard, and a patient heart to continue guiding him as he settles into family life. In return, River will offer loyal companionship, cheerful tail wags, playful moments, and the comfort of a devoted friend who simply wants to be near you. Could River be your loving shadow and adventure buddy?

Meet Koby, an incredibly resilient, joyful Pyr who has never let his rough start slow him down! Koby was found as a stray in Alabama with an injured front leg. Sadly, the leg could not be saved and was amputated, making Koby a 3-legged pup - but you’d never know it from watching him go! He is extremely mobile, can run surprisingly fast, loves to play and dig, and approaches life with an infectious, happy attitude. Watching him race around and wrestle with his doggie friends is both inspiring and absolutely adorable.

Read more about Koby in FL

Koby is a high-energy boy who is happiest when he has other dogs around. He currently lives with 6 dogs of various ages and sizes and absolutely adores every one of them. He loves following them around, exploring alongside them, and especially playing with them. Because dogs are such an important part of his happiness, Koby needs a home with at least one or two other playful, high-energy dogs who will spend lots of time with him. A younger dog would be wonderful as a playmate, while an older dog could give him a canine role model to learn from. His ideal family will also be active and enjoy taking him places, playing with him, and giving him plenty of opportunities to explore. A 4-foot fenced yard would be ideal for this adventurous boy.

Koby is housebroken and crate trained, and he knows “sit” and “come,” and is continuing to learn. He does well indoors, especially when his dog friends are nearby, although he definitely prefers being outside where he can relax in his favorite hole and watch the world go by. He gets around best on carpet, which is easier with three legs, but he has also learned to confidently navigate his foster home, which has wood flooring. Koby is a sweet and affectionate guy who enjoys meeting new people and loves being petted and showered with attention. He has met many people during his time with his foster family and has been wonderful with them. With a proper introduction, he is expected to be a great companion around children. He has also seen cats from a distance without reacting to them. He enjoys being brushed, chewing on hard bones, and playing with his stuffies.

What makes Koby truly special is his incredible spirit. Despite losing a front leg at a young age, he has remained gentle, loving, playful, and full of life. He is a happy little tripod who seems determined to squeeze every ounce of fun out of every day. He will make you laugh, brighten your day with his positive attitude, and love his people and canine friends with his whole heart. Koby is looking for a fun, active, dog-filled home where he can run, play, explore, and continue showing everyone that three legs are more than enough for a very big life!

Read more about Roo Roo in CT

Meet Roo Roo, a lovable Pyr with a heart overflowing with affection! Picked up as a stray in Tennessee, this sweet boy has quickly won over everyone he meets with his gentle nature, endless tail wags, and nearly therapy-dog-level love for people. Big or small, young or old, Roo Roo wants to be your best friend and soak up every pet and cuddle he can get! He’s a social butterfly who loves meeting new people wherever he goes, including trips to the soccer field to cheer on his foster siblings. With so many players, families, and spectators to greet, the sidelines are a dream come true for Mr. Roo! He’s met more than 100 people at a homecoming event, leaving everyone amazed by his sweet disposition. He doesn’t jump on visitors, and is always delighted to make a new friend and collect all the affection they’re willing to share.

Roo Roo is wonderful with children, including toddlers. He would make an especially wonderful snuggle buddy for a family with kids. He’s also a fantastic canine companion, getting along beautifully with males, females, puppies, and dogs of all sizes. He loves a good play session and can even convince his nine-year-old foster brother and the resident alpha female to join in! A playful doggy companion or two would make him very happy. Roo Roo is also fine with cats, and shows no interest in his foster family’s Flemish giant rabbit.

This sweet boy is housebroken, leash-trained, and less vocal than the average Pyr. His activity level depends on his surroundings: he can romp with canine friends for hours, but he’s wonderfully relaxed on neighborhood walks and spends plenty of time napping at home. He does need a few opportunities each day to burn off energy. He accepts treats very gently, has no known resource-guarding issues, and can settle near the table while his foster family eats.

Roo Roo gets nervous when left alone, and can be startled by unfamiliar loud noises, and isn’t a fan of car rides, sometimes experiencing motion sickness. Fortunately, he’s improving with practice, and trips to the soccer field give him a wonderful incentive to keep working on his car-riding skills! He can be crated for short periods, but he’ll thrive with a family who is home much of the time and can help him feel secure and build confidence.

An active, loving home with a 5-foot fenced yard would be ideal for Roo Roo, especially one with a playful canine friend and people who enjoy having their furry companion close by. Most importantly, he needs a family who understands that his greatest joy is connecting with people through affection, eye contact, and cuddles. He even likes to sleep on his back sometimes, and when you enter the room, he may wag his tail right through his legs - a hilarious sight that perfectly captures his happy-go-lucky personality! Roo Roo’s gentle kindness and enthusiasm for sharing love are truly special. If you’re looking for a sweet, social, playful best friend who will happily join you on family outings and then curl up nearby for a cuddle and a nap, Roo Roo is ready to wiggle his way into your heart!

Read more about Marie in GA

Meet Marie, a beautiful example of the classic Great Pyrenees look shrunk down into a "Pocket Pyr" package. Marie came to rescue after being found chained to a house in Alabama, and that hard start has left her with a fear of people. It takes patience to earn her trust - approaching slowly, bending down, hands out, and speaking in a soft voice - but once she settles, she melts into pets and hugs and clearly craves connection. She isn't yet socialized enough for formal obedience training, but she knows "go outside," "go potty," and "come.” She's a low-activity girl who prefers being indoors, doesn't bark, and doesn't dig. That said, she would love a secure, 5-foot fenced yard to enjoy with a doggie friend.

Marie gets along fine with cats and currently shares her foster home with 2 dogs - a 5-pound Shih Tzu and a 100-pound male Great Pyrenees, doing wonderfully with both. In fact, she needs a male Pyr companion in her next home. When she first arrived in foster care, she ran straight to the resident big boy and has stuck by his side ever since, drawing real comfort and confidence from him. Among her favorite things are car rides, where she's an excellent passenger, and being brushed and petted once she's calm and settled. While she’s easily spooked by people, she’s proven to be a good client with the groomer, who reports that she does well there. Marie likely knows that tasty rewards of bacon treats and cheese will soon be delivered! A couple of her endearing quirks: she'll only eat while lying in her bed rather than walking over to a bowl, and she prefers to drink water when no one is in the room.

Marie’s ideal home is with adults who have experience with easily spooked dogs and have successfully worked through that kind of fear before. They should bring an abundance of patience and calm voices to the table, and hopefully work from home. It will take months for her to fully acclimate, and she'll need people who don't expect too much too soon. But she is trying, every day, to overcome her nervousness - and that effort is part of what makes her so special. She is deeply loving and clearly longs to give and receive love, even though it's still hard for her right now. Her foster mom calls her Marie Laveau, after the magical woman of New Orleans, because she believes the magic in her will shine through for the right family willing to wait for it.

Read more about Walker in CT

Meet Walker, a drop-dead gorgeous Pyr mix who is turning heads everywhere he goes - seriously, everyone who meets him comments on how beautiful he is! Walker was picked up as a stray in Alabama, found walking along the highway, and now he’s loving life in foster care! He’s a sweet, playful, affectionate boy who is leggy, puppy-like, and always up for a good time. He is house trained, crate trained, and knows "sit” and "lie down." Walker is learning how to walk like a gentleman on leash and would thrive with people who will continue his reward-based training. He has Golden Retriever vibes in that he is food motivated and eager to learn, happily accepting any treat that comes his way, and will give his paw to ask for attention.

Walker is very playful and energetic like a Collie, and would thrive with active people who have plenty of energy to match his own. He loves play wrestling with other dogs, soaking up attention, playing and racing on the deck, parkour, chewing on deer antlers, and prancing through high grass. The one thing he's not a fan of is going outside in the rain! He prefers to be an inside dog, but would love a 4.5 foot fenced yard for some zoomies! He barks about average for a Pyr, so a home with enough space between neighbors would be ideal.

Around other animals, Walker is an excellent match for female dogs and would absolutely love a lady canine playmate. He is okay with male dogs too, just not as playful, and a little cautious around unfamiliar male dogs. Dog-savvy cats should do just fine with him - he's not aggressive and will happily ignore a cat that's just chilling, though he may give chase if a cat takes off running. Walker is friendly when meeting new people. He met several kids at the Chester Fair, and was calm and gentle, and very sweet and friendly, so sturdy kids who can handle his big-puppy antics should do fine. He's not a digger, and in no way protective of food - he’s fine sharing his dining space and taking treats around other animals.

Walker has a sweet, loving spirit - he just wants love and attention, and he's game for anything as long as it involves having fun. Stunning, sweet, and full of personality, Walker is looking for an active family with room to run, a canine companion to play with, and a strong leader, and he offers plenty of love to give in return!

Read more about Bear in KY

Meet Bear, a Great Pyrenees mix with a gentle heart and a delightfully goofy side. He loves dog friends, toys, and turning the backyard into his personal playground. Since coming to rescue, Bear has been discovering that people, home life, and affection can be pretty wonderful, too. Bear can be shy with new people, but once he feels safe, his sweet nature shines. He now seeks out his foster mom for pets and is learning to enjoy affection. A patient family that lets him build trust at his own pace will be rewarded with a loving companion. He has made great progress with leash walking, crate time, and exploring life indoors. Bear settles quietly with a chew or toy and responds well to calm, consistent guidance. Outside, Bear’s playful side takes over. He has a medium energy level and happily chases, wrestles, and rolls around with other dogs. He also enjoys tossing rope toys, investigating new chews, and sharing with his canine friends without resource guarding. Bear is generally quiet for a Pyr, though he may join in when the other dogs sound the alarm. He respects a fenced yard and has not tried to climb or dig out; a 4-foot fence should be suitable. He hops into a vehicle ready for an adventure, enjoys being brushed, and calmly accepts routine grooming. Bear is friendly with cats and now greets them nose-to-nose after a careful introduction. His gentle nature may also suit a home with respectful children and thoughtful, supervised introductions. Bear’s ideal home has a yard, a playful canine companion, plenty of toys, and kind people who enjoy walks, backyard fun, and quiet time together. With patience, consistency, and love, Bear is ready to blossom into the confident, devoted companion he is meant to be.

Courtesy Listing:
Steve and Robin are a bonded pair of Great Pyrenees who appear to be mixed with Black Mouth Cur. They have long, soft double coats and hearts full of love just waiting to be unlocked. Found near-feral in the woods of Tennessee, these two have come an incredibly long way — and the journey to earning their trust is one of the most rewarding things you'll ever experience.

Read more about Steve & Robin in TN

Both dogs are house-trained and crate trained, and they have great house manners. They've settled beautifully into home life and adore having a cozy den space to call their own — a covered crate loaded up with soft bedding and favorite chew toys, big enough for the two of them to snuggle up together. Their activity level is moderate: they love a good case of the zoomies in a big yard, but they're equally happy to spend the rest of the day curled up together in a warm corner. Steve and Robin are fantastic with cats and tend to lose interest once a new scent becomes familiar. They do great with small puppies, though they prefer very calm dogs overall and can be selective with new canine friends. They've handled calm vet visits like champs and are generally well-behaved in new situations, though they appreciate a gentle, unhurried approach. They're not big barkers — you'll mostly hear from them when they need outside time or want to let you know something's up at the boundary.

Steve is a total attention hog who has perfected the Pyr Paw and will absolutely try to elbow Robin out of the spotlight the moment belly rubs are on the table. Robin is gentler and more reserved, but once you've earned her trust, she is pure magic. Both dogs have moved from near-feral to actively seeking out love and affection, and that transformation says everything about who they are. Steve loves to dig, so your yard may acquire some character. Leash work is still in progress — both dogs are a little nervous about it — but with patience and a slow, positive approach, they're making strides. A four-foot fence is all that's needed to keep them happily contained, as neither has any interest in escape artistry.

Steve and Robin are looking for a calm, experienced home, possibly with older kids who have a naturally quiet and gentle energy. They need a family who understands that trust takes time, who will give them space when they need it and hugs when they ask for them, and who has a yard big enough for the occasional wild sprint. They can thrive as a duo-only household or alongside other very chill canine companions. In return, you'll get two absolutely gorgeous, deeply sweet dogs who will love you with everything they've got — once they know it's safe to do so. And it will be so worth the wait.

20. Princess in TN

Young · Female · Great Pyrenees (long coat) · 6 mi from Cold Spring

Princess is a sweet, loving girl who is ready to find her forever home! She came to rescue as part of a cruelty case in Alabama, but she hasn’t let her past stop her from enjoying life and soaking up all the love and attention she can get. She is housebroken, crate trained, and walks well on a leash. She also knows “sit,” “stay,” and “down.” With a medium activity level, Princess enjoys the comforts of indoor living and absolutely loves being rubbed and snuggled. One of her favorite things is her bedtime ritual with her foster dad, which includes belly rubs, cuddles, and doggie cookies! She also loves yogurt, and has an adorable habit of sleeping flat on her back on her raised bed.

Read more about Princess in TN

Princess has been happy to meet everyone she has encountered so far and has done well around indoor and outdoor cats. She has also been non-reactive around a pony and donkey when introduced on leash. She has been exposed to other adult male Pyrs and has done well with her foster’s puppies. Princess has an alpha personality and will likely want to be the boss if she lives with another dog, so thoughtful introductions and compatibility will be important. She could be happy as an only dog or with the right canine companion. Princess enjoys eating her meals separately from other animals, as she can be protective of her food. She thrives on human attention and would love a family with plenty of time to give her unconditional love. A 4-foot fenced yard would be great, though she could also be a leash-walk-only dog. If you’re looking for an affectionate companion who will happily soak up belly rubs and snuggle time, Princess may be your PYR-fect match!

Adopting a dog in Cold Spring

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
