1. Josie

Puppy · Female · Chihuahua / Pug (short coat)

Welcome Josie to CCPAL Rescue. Josie is a Chug (Chihuahua/Pug) puppy. She weighs 4 pounds and is 9 weeks old. She will be a small dog full grown. She should be 12 pounds or less. She is very sweet and has an adorable rounded head. She likes to be held, is good in a crate, goes on a wee pad and loves to play with toys. She was born at the Rescue. They took in a stray female and she was pregnant. This means the puppies get lots of attention and are very used to being in a loud and rowdy environment. Josie would be best in a home that the person doesn’t work all day every day. She needs to finish up her puppy training. Social pups make great adults and now is the time for her to spend time with her family and to go places and let people pet her. She is an AMAZING puppy. She would be fine with children. Due to her small size, we would like children to be 8 or older. She is getting her puppy vaccines and will have 3. She will then be ready for spay and adoption. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

8. Blanca

Adult · Female · Rat Terrier (short coat)

Welcome Blanca to CCPAL Rescue. She is a 2 year old Rat Terrier mix. She came in from a hoarding situation. We received 3 dogs from this case. One was adopted already and one had to go to a specialized trainer in another Rescue. Blanca has started opening up and allowing people to pet her and hold her. She never got any attention in her original home, the hoarder. She is good with other dogs and causes no issues. She is kennel trained and her response to being afraid is to run and hide. She is a timid girl and not the social butterfly. She would be perfect with a person that is more introverted and wants a pet that is also similar. Blanca would be satisfied being at home with you all the time. A small walk in the yard would be fine. She until now, has not walked on leash. She is learning to do it at our Rescue. She would like a patient owner and a quieter home. An older couple or older single person would be great. Someone with a quieter home. She would be fine kenneled away if you had a party or people over. She is not very vocal and prefers to blend into the woodwork. She is really a great dog for the right family. She is getting her vaccinations, nail trims and will be spayed soon and ready for her forever home. She could be adopted locally in Texas or we could work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. . Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

9. Yuzu

Adult · Female · Jindo (Korean) / Terrier / Mixed

Located in Brooklyn NYC -Meet Yuzu! A sweet, affectionate girl with a gentle soul, a silly personality, and so much love to give.Yuzu is a 6-year-old, 27-pound South Asian Village Dog who was rescued from the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal. Before coming to the United States, Yuzu was known as an incredibly friendly dog in her neighborhood. She would often visit a local outdoor café, happily approaching people, making friends, and enjoying all the attention. From the very beginning, Yuzu has loved people and children and has always had a special way of connecting with those around her. What makes her wonderful: Yuzu is affectionate, gentle, silly, smart, and incredibly emotionally intuitive.

Read more about Yuzu

She is a true companion dog who loves being close to her people and being included in everyday life. After coming to the United States, Yuzu spent six wonderful years with her family in California. She has lived in both a city with a backyard and a quieter beach town, and she has always enjoyed being part of family life.Yuzu loves cuddling, belly scratches, hiking, beaches, sunbathing, squirrels, lizards, and especially beach zoomies! She has a fun and playful side, but she is also perfectly happy relaxing beside her people. She is house trained, crate trained, comfortable being home alone, and has excellent house manners. She is very food motivated, knows her basic commands, and responds beautifully to positive reinforcement.Yuzu absolutely loves children and has successfully lived with several cats. She also enjoys the company of gentle, playful dogs she knows and trusts. She is a devoted little companion who wants nothing more than to feel safe, loved, and included in her family's everyday life. What She Needs: Yuzu would thrive in a quieter, peaceful environment where she doesn't have to constantly navigate the overwhelming stimulation of a busy city. Since moving to New York City, her family has realized that the loud noises, constant activity, and sheer number of dogs and people have been very difficult for her. The amount of stimulation has been overwhelming for her, and her family is concerned about her quality of life in this environment.Yuzu can be nervous around unfamiliar larger dogs, particularly when she is on leash. When she becomes overwhelmed or frightened, she may bark or lunge out of fear. This is something she has made meaningful progress with over the years through patience, positive reinforcement, and support. Her family believes she would be much happier in a quieter area with less dog traffic, access to nature, and ideally a yard.Yuzu needs someone who understands sensitive dogs and is willing to give her patience, consistency, and reassurance as she continues building confidence. She doesn't need a busy lifestyle—she needs a peaceful one. A home where she can enjoy walks in quieter areas, spend time outdoors, relax in her yard, and be close to her people would be ideal.Health: Yuzu is a happy and healthy girl, although her anxiety has increased since moving to the city, and she is currently on a full dose of anxiety medication to help her cope with the environment. Her family is seeking a home where she can experience less stimulation and hopefully enjoy a better quality of life. She has excellent house manners, is house and crate trained, and is comfortable being left home alone. Why we're rehoming her: This is an incredibly difficult decision for Yuzu's family because they love her very much. Yuzu has spent six happy years with them in California, and she has been a cherished member of their family. They have watched her grow, traveled through different environments with her, and know how loving and special she is.Unfortunately, since moving to New York City, they have realized that the busy urban environment is simply too overwhelming for Yuzu. The constant noise, activity, and high density of dogs have made it difficult for her to feel comfortable and relaxed. Her family doesn't want her to spend her life feeling ov

10. Daisy

Adult · Female · French Bulldog (short coat)

Welcome Daisy to CCPAL foster program. Daisy is a 4-year Frenchie (French Bulldog). She has been a breeder dog and the breeder is no longer going to use her so she is now looking for her forever home. This awful in our eyes, but we are happy to find Daisy a real forever home where she can be loved and cherished and doted on. She is a wonderful dog. She is good with other dogs, potty trained, not too active, not too vocal and does good with children. She is getting her spay surgery with CCPAL. She is current on vaccinations and will also get her heartworm test. She has lived in a house so she knows the rules and structure of living with a family.

12. Maverick

Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Dachshund (short coat)

Welcome Maverick to CCPAL Foster Program. Maverick is a 4-year-old Chiweenie. He weighs about 19 pounds. He is good on a leash, good in a car. He is potty trained and very loyal to his person. He knows “go for a walk”, “stop”, “leave it”, “It’s the neighbor” and a few other commands. He is in a home and the owner is having some very big financial issues and need to find Maverick a new home. Maverick has some allergies to food and the food that he can is a Duck and Potato kibble. He has some allergies to grass. He has taken Apoquel successfully to handle the allergies. He warms up slowly and is very loyal and bonded once he has bonded. He would be great for a senior couple or single wanting a companion. A nice yard for him to get exercise in would be nice or someone that could have the time to take him on a couple of walks would be great. He isn’t the social butterfly that some dogs are so a matching owner would be the best fit. He would be a great dog to alert you to someone at the door or something being off in the environment. He is good on walks and would help a senior be more active. He is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. He could go with children but we would like them to be teens. I think a quieter home would be best for this boy. His adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

13. Priscilla Prissy

Puppy · Black Mouth Cur / Labrador Retriever (medium coat)

Welcome Priscilla “Prissy” to CCPAL Rescue. Priscilla is a 10-week-old sweetie. Lab/Black Mouth Cur mix is our best guess. She should be a medium sized dog 28 pounds or less. He is sturdy and has longer legs then her stubby legged brother. Her mom is Pickles and she is also medium sized. She is getting lots of attention at the Rescue and she is social, good with other dogs, good in a crate, learning wee pad manners and is over all a very nice puppy. The kennel staff usually bathe and clip toenails on a regular basis as well. She will be fine with grooming. She has a soft fluffy coat and adorable expressions. She was found as a stray with her mom who is Pickles. She is getting all 3 sets of his puppy vaccinations and will be spayed soon. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Prissy would be fine in a family with children. We like them to be 8 or older. A puppy is always best with someone that is not gone all day every day. A puppy needs to bond with his humans and to go places to remain and grow up to be a well-rounded dog. Priscilla will also need to finish her puppy training. She would be great in a doggy daycare as she gets time playing off leash with other puppies her size. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

Welcome Johnny to CCPAL Rescue. Johnny is a 7-month-old Pug mixed pup. He is a beautiful tan color with a black muzzle. He has an underbite and a shortened nose. He is a bigger-sized boy pup in the liter. He weighs about 15 pounds now and will be a small dog full grown. He has an adorable underbite and is great with other dogs. He is active but not over the top. He has the curly tail like the traditional pug but maybe the curl is less tight. He is a laid-back boy and was easy to take photos with. They all have curly tails and the round adorable heads. Johnny is one of two boys in the litter. He was the last puppy to come out of his kennel as he was enjoying his nap.

He was very workable and stood still and sat willingly on the table for the photo shoot. They are all affectionate and cuddly. They are very playful with their siblings. Johnny is social and would be a great dog to take to the local coffee shop. He loves all people and is call in loud situations. They go on a wee pad but are not fully potty trained. They are good in a crate and are getting regular attention and love at the Rescue. We don’t have the privilege of adopting out many pugs. We are excited to find the pug pups their forever home. We would love pug people for these pups, as they know the breed most. They will be spayed and neutered and ready for their forever home soon. Someone that doesn’t work all day every day is the best candidate for a puppy. These pups would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older as these pups are small and very trusting of everyone. 17. Penny

Adult · Female · Cane Corso Mastiff

Meet Penny! A Loving lady looking for the perfect match.Penny is a 2.5 year-old Cane Corso that weighs around 118 pounds. What Makes Her Wonderful: Penny is a deeply loving, affectionate girl who is happiest when she is close to her family. She is incredibly bonded to her people and absolutely adores her young children. At home, she is a total cuddle bug who loves attention, belly rubs, and being included in whatever her family is doing. Penny especially loves spending time outdoors. She could happily spend hours lying in the sunshine, following her family around while they garden, or simply relaxing nearby.

Read more about Penny

She isn’t a dog who needs constant activity or entertainment—she is perfectly content being your companion and soaking up the sun. We truly think she would love a home with plenty of outdoor space, and a farm or similar property could be a wonderful fit for her.As a Cane Corso, Penny has the loyal, devoted, protective nature that makes this breed so special. She is naturally watchful and may bark when someone unfamiliar first arrives, but she can warm up quickly when she realizes someone is a friend. In fact, she is currently doing wonderfully with two men inside the home replacing windows—she is relaxed, wagging her tail, asking them for pets, and enjoying their attention. Once she understands that someone is welcome, she can be incredibly sweet and affectionate. Her Health: Penny is currently doing very well on her daily fluoxetine, which has made a tremendous positive difference in her overall anxiety and ability to relax. With consistent medication, she is much calmer and has been able to stay home alone without being crated. She does have significant separation anxiety, which her family is actively managing and treating. Consistency is very important for her, and keeping her medication routine is a key part of helping her remain comfortable and successful.Penny also has some behavioral considerations that are important for her future family to understand. She has shown aggression toward small dogs, particularly small fluffy breeds, and has demonstrated resource guarding around other larger dogs. Because of this, we believe she would do best as the only pet in the home, with no small dogs or other small animals. Her family is committed to being completely transparent about her needs so that her next home can be one where she is understood, supported, and set up for success. Why We're Rehoming Her: Rehoming Penny is an incredibly difficult decision, and this is not something her family is taking lightly. -We love her very much, and she is deeply bonded to our family. She is affectionate, devoted, wonderful with our young children, and has so many qualities that we absolutely adore. However, we recognize that Penny needs a very specific environment in order to truly thrive. As a Cane Corso with strong guardian instincts, anxiety, and reactivity toward certain animals, she needs an experienced owner who understands the breed and is comfortable managing a powerful guardian dog.Our goal is not simply to find Penny another home—it is to find the right home for Penny. We believe her ideal family would have experience with Cane Corso’s or similar guardian breeds, no small dogs or other small animals, a securely fenced property, and the ability to provide her with consistency, structure, companionship, and continued support with her anxiety.Penny has so much love to give. She wants to be with her people, be included in their lives, spend time outside, and receive all the affection she can get. We are committed to finding her a home where her wonderful qualities can shine and where she can feel safe, loved, and understood for the rest of her life.

We took her in to find out she was pregnant. The puppies were born in our Rescue. They have gotten lots of interaction. They are very social and friendly. Sean is one of the middle- sized boy pups. He looks the most similar to his mom. He is good with other dogs and loves to play in the water. He is cute and has the most adorable expressions. He likes being held and is very trusting of all people. He should be 15 to 18 pounds is our best guess full grown.

Read more about Sean

He should be small enough to take with you in a doggy sling or bag. He is a fun pup to pet because of his coat. He is full of personality and very good with his litter group. He goes on a wee pad and is good in a crate. He likes all people and is not shy around strangers. Her mom is 15 pounds. Our guess would be 10 to 12 for him. He is not a big shedder. He will make some lucky family a good pet. Anyone who adopts a puppy should not work all day every day because a puppy needs to be with their family and not home alone all day. He needs to finish up his puppy training. He will be a great dog for a social person wanting a matching puppy personality. He would be fine in a smaller condo size yard. He would be fine with other dogs. He can go with children. We like them to be 8 or older. He is getting neutered, vaccinated and he will be ready for his forever home. He is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally. We can also use one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. His adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states. 20. Daisey Mae

Puppy · Female · Chihuahua / Dachshund (short coat)

Welcome Daisey Mae to CCPAL Rescue. She came in with her mom Layla. We think her breed is Chiweenie. She is 13-weeks old and she weighs about 5 or 6 pounds. We think full grown would be 25 pounds or less. She is beautiful and looks a lot like her mom. She was fun to take photos of at the photo shoot. She is good in a crate, good with other dogs, playful and sweet. She is smart and trusting of people. She would be great with a family that is moderately active to highly active. She would be best with someone that is not gone all day every day and can spend some time with their puppy to keep her social and to finish up her puppy training.

21. Foxy Lady

Young · Female · Corgi / Cairn Terrier (medium coat)

Welcome Foxy Lady to CCPAL Rescue. She is a Corgi/Cairn is our best estimate on her breed. She is 15 months old. She has a longer coat and weight about 25 pounds. She should be full grown and if anything may fill out some. She will be a small dog full grown. She is good with other dogs, good in a crate and getting used to Rescue life. She has an adorable underbite and her teeth are in great shape. We think her best home would be with someone who has had a Corgi and has the time to finish her training. I would say moderate to active family is best. She could be with kids. We think 8 or older is best.

Read more about Foxy Lady

She likes the women at the shelter and warms up more slowly to new people. She readily accepts women. She will be worked with on her leash manners and she has ridden in the car without problems. Her best home would be a more quiet one that she can get more one on one attention. She would be great for an older couple, or single person that wants a nice companion. She doesnt seem to be the social butterfly but very content with being home. If you think this sounds like a good fit for you, put in an application. She is a wonderful dog and a head turner for sure. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. 23. Keanu

Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed

Keanu is a 7-year-old Chihuahua mix weighing approximately 18 pounds, with a big heart and a deeply loyal nature. With someone he trusts, this little fellow becomes an affectionate companion who loves spending time with his person. Walks are a particular favorite—he’s always happy to head out and explore alongside his trusted friend.Keanu needs a quiet home with a male adopter and must be the only dog in the household. He does not respond well to women although he is improving, and his future person will need to understand and carefully manage that sensitivity, including when visitors come over.Once Keanu learns to trust you, his affectionate side truly shines—he loves cuddling close, asking for plenty of pets, and soaking up time with his favorite person.

Read more about Keanu

He does have a bite history and needs an experienced, patient adopter who will respect his boundaries and work with our team to understand his triggers and help him feel secure. We have been working with Keanu on socialization, and he is slowly showing improvement. His previous owner was an older man, and we suspect Keanu may have had limited exposure to other people and dogs. While we don’t know the full extent of those experiences, we can see that unfamiliar interactions can be difficult for him.Keanu is looking for a calm, predictable life with someone who will let trust develop at his pace. His progress is encouraging, and he will need continued support from a person who takes his behavioral needs seriously while appreciating his affectionate side. For the right person, companionship with Keanu could mean peaceful days together, walks filled with interesting smells, and the love of a little dog who forms a strong bond with his trusted human.Could you be the experienced, patient man who gives Keanu the understanding and quiet home he needs?

27. Roux

Young · Female · Hound / Terrier / Mixed

Roux is a beautiful 8-month-old Hound Mix weighing approximately 46 pounds, with a soft tan coat, an adorable black snout, and a gentle little heart just waiting for someone to call her own. This sweet Southern girl made her way to us from Alabama, bringing with her a lifetime of love to give and a whole world she's only just beginning to discover. You see, Roux has spent most of her young life in a kennel environment. While other puppies may have been discovering the comforts of a home, the excitement of new adventures, and the joy of having a family, Roux has been patiently waiting for her chance to experience those things, too.

Read more about Roux

The world outside of a kennel is still unfamiliar to her, and sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming. But behind her shy, observant nature is a wonderfully sweet, intelligent, and playful girl who just needs someone willing to show her how beautiful life can be.Roux is the kind of pup who likes to take everything in before jumping into something new. She's incredibly smart and observant, often sitting back to quietly study her surroundings before deciding she's ready to join the fun. She may be a little timid when meeting new people or experiencing unfamiliar situations, but with patience, gentle encouragement, and a little reassurance, her adorable personality begins to shine through. And when Roux feels comfortable, what a personality she has! She absolutely loves making doggy friends and enjoys romping around with her canine companions. She tends to be submissive when meeting other dogs, but that doesn't stop her from enjoying a good play session! And when the fun is over? Roux is more than happy to embrace her inner lazy bones! This girl appreciates a relaxing day just as much as a playful adventure, making her a wonderful combination of goofy, gentle, and laid-back.One of Roux's favorite discoveries has been puzzle toys and treats! She's a clever little problem-solver who loves putting her brain to work, especially when there's a yummy reward involved. Enrichment games, puzzle boards, and positive-reinforcement training are wonderful ways to keep her curious mind busy while helping her gain confidence and build trust. At just 8 months old, Roux has so much life left to experience. She deserves more than the familiar walls of a kennel. She deserves a soft place to sleep, toys scattered across the floor, adventures that help her grow, and a family who will make her feel safe enough to finally let her guard down. Most importantly, she deserves to know what it feels like to truly belong.Roux may not be the puppy who runs straight into your arms the moment you meet her. But give her the time to find her courage, and you may discover that earning the trust of a shy little soul is one of the most beautiful kinds of love there is. All Roux needs is someone willing to give her a chance. A chance to learn, to grow, to trust, and to experience all the wonderful things life has waiting for her.Could you be the person who shows Roux that the world is so much bigger than a kennel, and that the very best part of her story is still waiting to be written?

29. Arlo

Young · Male · Shepherd / Terrier / Mixed

Arlo is a sweet, sensitive soul with a heart full of love, just waiting for the right person to help him find the courage to share it. He's the kind of dog who may not immediately run into your arms or shower you with kisses when you first meet him, but don't let his shy nature fool you. Behind those timid eyes is an incredibly loving boy who has so much affection to give. He just needs a little extra time to feel safe enough to show it.For Arlo, trust isn't something that happens overnight. New people and unfamiliar situations can feel overwhelming, and sometimes his first instinct is to hang back and observe from a distance.

Read more about Arlo

But underneath that uncertainty is a gentle, affectionate boy who truly wants to connect. With patience, kindness, and a little reassurance, Arlo slowly begins to let his guard down. And when he finally decides you're someone he can trust, you'll get to experience the beautiful, loving personality he's been keeping tucked away. While Arlo may be shy around people, his love for other dogs is a completely different story! This sweet boy absolutely adores making new doggy friends. There's something about being around other dogs that helps him feel more comfortable and brings out his confidence. Whether he's spending time with a canine companion or simply following their lead, having another dog by his side can make the world feel a little less intimidating.Because of this, Arlo would truly thrive in a home with another friendly, confident dog who can help show him the ropes. A canine sibling could be so much more than just a playmate for Arlo. They could be his source of comfort, his partner in adventure, and a reassuring example that people can be kind, gentle, and trustworthy. Sometimes, the best teachers have four paws and a wagging tail!Arlo's ideal family would be one that understands that the most meaningful relationships aren't always built overnight. He needs someone who won't rush him, who will celebrate his smallest victories, and who understands that progress might look like taking a few steps closer, accepting a gentle touch, or simply choosing to relax beside someone he trusts. And that's what makes loving a dog like Arlo so incredibly special. The first time he comes to you on his own, the first time he seeks out your affection, or the moment you realize he finally feels safe in your presence—those little moments will mean absolutely everything. Because when a shy dog finally gives you his trust, it's a gift unlike any other.Arlo doesn't need a perfect home or a perfect person. He just needs someone with a patient heart, a gentle approach, and the willingness to love him through the moments when he's still learning to be brave. Some dogs love you the moment they meet you. Others, like Arlo, need a little time to discover that it's safe to love. But the love waiting on the other side of that trust is something truly worth waiting for.Arlo has so much love inside of him, and he's just waiting for someone special to help bring it out. With the companionship of another dog and the unconditional love of a patient family, this sensitive boy has every opportunity to blossom into the confident, affectionate companion he's meant to be.Could you be the one who shows Arlo that he no longer has to be afraid, that he is safe, and that he finally has a place where he belongs?

Adopting a dog in Rensselaer County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
