9. Pickles

Adult (6 years 6 months) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Boxer / Mixed (short coat) · 67 mi from Troy

Meet Pickles, affectionately known as Picky!

A sweet six-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever mix currently in Ellsworth AFB, SD, whose beautiful black coat with white accents matches her wonderfully lovable personality. At 80 pounds, this affectionate girl has a big heart, an even bigger love for her people, and a special talent for turning ordinary moments into cozy memories!

Read more about Pickles

Picky is a devoted companion who believes togetherness makes everything better. Whether she's following you from room to room, curling up beside you for a nap, or patiently hoping for a tasty snack, she's happiest near her favorite humans. She's wonderfully intuitive, often sensing emotions and offering quiet companionship when needed. Her favorite activities include snuggling, relaxing, enjoying car rides, and supervising snack time!

This clever girl knows several commands, including sit, lay, kennel, and outside, with an occasional shake when she's feeling cooperative. She's house-trained, crate-trained, spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. She also handles time alone comfortably, often napping or watching the world through a window.

Picky needs a peaceful, adult-only home with an experienced pet parent who understands canine body language and respects her boundaries. She's protective of her loved ones and may respond defensively to unfamiliar approaches. She has growled at small children and can react when dogs attempt to mount her. She's selective with canine companions, and her compatibility with cats is unknown.

Loud noises, particularly thunderstorms, fireworks, and jet engines, frighten her, although comforting snuggles help. A quieter environment would support her emotional well-being.

Picky previously injured her right hind leg, which still limits jumping and running. She's also carrying extra weight, so gentle activity and thoughtful nutrition would benefit her.

This low-energy sweetheart doesn't need endless adventures. She needs patience, understanding, a comfortable couch, and someone who appreciates unconditional companionship. With her loving nature and fondness for peaceful routines, Picky is ready to share life's quieter joys! Could your heart and couch have room for this snuggly, devoted girl? 19. Jumba in TN

Puppy · Male · Great Pyrenees / English Mastiff / Mixed (medium coat) · 87 mi from Troy

* Check Out My Video Album Below! *

Meet Jumba, a lovable Great Pyrenees and English Mastiff mix who is ready to win your heart with his sweet personality and wonderfully balanced puppy energy! This handsome boy has a medium activity level and a special knack for knowing when it’s time to play and when he should settle down. He loves spending time with his people, whether they have two legs or four, and shows wonderful compassion while happily matching your energy. Jumba can turn his playful puppy mode on and off, so he won’t wear you out by demanding to play 24/7!

Read more about Jumba in TN

Jumba is actively learning his manners and daily routines, and he’s picking up good habits quickly. He is crate trained and is working on his leash skills. Inside his crate, he is generally calm and quiet, with most of his puppy vocals reserved for letting you know when he needs a potty break. He has also shown that he can be calm and relaxed when the moment calls for it. One of his most adorable quirks? Instead of sleeping in a typical doggy position, Jumba prefers to curl up in a classic cat-bun pose!

This social fellow loves meeting new friends and has enjoyed opportunities to meet people through his foster home and veterinary visits. He has also been exposed to other dogs and is eager to meet them, especially when there’s a chance to play! Jumba has met cats too, and has shown gentle curiosity around them. While he hasn’t had the opportunity to spend time around children yet, he would likely do well with dog-savvy kids ages six and up, who can appreciate that he’s a big puppy still learning about the world. He doesn’t seem interested in digging, and his barking is about what you’d expect from a pup.

When the weather is pleasant, Jumba enjoys being outdoors, soaking up the sunshine, and exploring everything the world has to offer. He’s also a fan of chicken nuggets! Car rides are still a work in progress, and he hasn’t quite decided they’re cool yet. He’s also not a fan of getting soggy, so keeping this boy nice and dry is highly recommended unless you’re prepared for a little wet-weather protest!

Jumba’s ideal home would be with a moderately active family ready to help him continue learning and growing, preferably with another friendly dog to be his companion and playmate. A 5-foot securely fenced yard would give him a wonderful place to explore, sunbathe, and enjoy outdoor adventures. Most of all, Jumba is looking for a family who will appreciate his affectionate nature, respect his need for downtime, and help him become the best dog he can be. With his sweet heart, social spirit, and impressive ability to balance fun with relaxation, Jumba is sure to bring plenty of love and laughter to his forever home!

Read more about Pleekly in TN

Meet Pleekly, an adorable Great Pyrenees and English Mastiff mix who is ready to find his forever family! This mild-mannered, eager-to-please pup is a quick learner who is excited to discover the world and make his people proud. He’s working on his leash skills and learning household routines, but he catches on quickly and is happy to learn. One of the sweetest things about Pleekly is how he likes to walk right alongside you, hopping his way down the path while giving your hand an affectionate lick. He is crate-trained, has a medium activity level, and comes with a handy little on/off switch for puppy mode, so you can enjoy his playful side without being entertained by puppy antics every waking minute!

Pleekly is a social guy who loves making friends, whether they have four legs or two! He has been exposed to other dogs and enjoys playing with new canine pals. Having another friendly dog in his forever home would be perfect, especially one who can show him the ropes. He has also been around cats and shows interest while remaining gentle in their presence. Although he hasn't met children yet, we suspect he could do well with them; because he is going to be a big boy, a home with dog-savvy children ages 6 and up would be the best fit.

When it comes to house manners, Pleekly is a pleasantly quiet pup, making about the amount of noise you'd expect from a puppy and generally staying quieter indoors. In fact, he mostly speaks up when he needs to go potty! He hasn’t shown any interest in digging (yet). When the weather is lovely, you'll often find him happily rotating between his doghouse and a sunny patch of grass, soaking up the fresh air and enjoying the simple pleasures of a beautiful day. And when it's time to settle down for a nap, Pleekly has his own adorable style: he prefers to curl up in the classic cat bun position rather than flop upside down like a typical pup. And offer him a chicken nugget, and you will have a friend for life!

Pleekly would thrive in a moderately active home where he can enjoy companionship, keep his mind and body busy, and continue learning at his own pace. A 5-foot securely fenced yard would give him a safe place to explore, play, and enjoy the sunshine. Pleekly needs a family ready to help him grow into the wonderful companion he's meant to be. Adult (5 years 3 months) · Male · Great Pyrenees / Chow Chow / Mixed (long coat) · 67 mi from Troy

Meet Beau!

A handsome five-year-old Great Pyrenees/Chow mix currently in Chattanooga, TN, whose gorgeous fawn and black coat, impressive 125-pound frame, and irresistible face make him impossible to overlook.

Beau is a super-smart, affectionate boy with a wonderful balance of playful energy and laid-back charm! He enjoys leisurely walks, relaxing in a safe yard, and simply spending time near his favorite people. His sweetest habit? Resting his big, beautiful head on your lap to request some well-earned affection. With Beau, there's always room for another cuddle!

Read more about Beau

This gentle-hearted giant knows commands like "sit," "lie down," and "come on." He's fully house-trained, comfortable relaxing alone, and respectful of furniture. He enjoys car rides, welcomes strangers, and happily sleeps on the bedroom floor at night. He'll occasionally announce passing visitors with a bark, taking his neighborhood watch responsibilities seriously!

Beau needs an experienced large-breed family who can confidently manage his size and strength. He has a strong prey drive and has repeatedly chased and caught a cat. Therefore, his new loving home must be completely free of cats and small dogs. He gets along well with a Brittany Spaniel and may be compatible with appropriately matched medium or large dogs following careful introductions. Dog parks are not recommended, and his compatibility with children remains unknown.

Neutered and vaccinated, Beau has no known medical conditions. He's making progress with a weight-management plan and has already lost five pounds! Veterinary visits require prescribed calming medications beforehand because handling can be stressful. Regular brushing, positive reinforcement, and patient grooming support will help him feel comfortable and cared for.

Beau would appreciate more frequent walks and a family who understands his need for thoughtful boundaries. He isn't fond of crates, but he's trustworthy when relaxing freely indoors.

22. Omaha

Adult (7 years 3 months) · Male · German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) · 67 mi from Troy

Meet Omaha!

A handsome seven-year-old German Shepherd currently in Hackettstown, NJ, whose striking black and tan coat and playful spirit make him a wonderful companion for the right family.

Omaha is a friendly, medium-energy, large boy at 141 pounds who loves outdoor adventures, exploring the backyard, and chasing his beloved Chuckit! balls. Whether enjoying neighborhood walks, investigating interesting scents, or playing fetch, this handsome fellow knows how to make every day an adventure. He also enjoys digging, so don't be surprised if he occasionally tries his paw at landscaping!

Read more about Omaha

This intelligent gentleman has excellent manners and plenty of training experience. He's house-trained, neutered, vaccinated, and knows several commands, including sit, stay, come, drop, and lay down. He's also comfortable spending short periods alone.

Omaha enjoys canine companionship and regularly attends doggy daycare, where he socializes with other dogs. He could happily share his new loving home with a compatible canine friend. His compatibility with cats remains unknown.

Omaha needs an experienced, adult-only family who understands German Shepherds and can provide a peaceful, structured environment. His resource guarding behaviors around food and favorite toys began after young children joined his family, a change that introduced new dynamics into his environment. During an unfamiliar and potentially stressful outing, Omaha also had an incident where he reacted to a young child's touch, making open-mouth contact with the child's face and causing a minor injury. The exact trigger is unknown, but these behaviors may be related to the challenges of adjusting to life with young children. Omaha needs a calm, child-free home with predictable routines and an understanding guardian.

A knowledgeable guardian who understands resource guarding, respects boundaries, and uses positive reinforcement and thoughtful behavior management will help Omaha feel secure. Consistent routines and opportunities for exercise are important. A fenced yard would also be ideal.

Omaha is generally healthy, although he could benefit from maintaining a healthier weight through appropriate activity and nutrition.

Behind those alert Shepherd ears is a playful companion with so much to share. With a little room to roam, a steady routine, and a guardian who appreciates his playful personality, Omaha is ready to fill his days with outdoor adventures, exciting games of fetch, and the simple joys of being a cherished companion. Could Omaha be the adventure-loving companion you've been waiting to meet? Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about this special boy!

Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
