Puppy (2 months 2 days) · Male · Coonhound / Mixed (short coat) · 23 mi from Chapel Hill

Hi! My mom and siblings were rescued by pawfect when we were just born in the shelter. We have been living in a warm cozy foster home and growing, growing, growing! Our mom Brynn (Brinley) is what they think to be a Coonhound mix and we are not sure what our dad was mixed with but likely something big.
We currently live in a foster home with cats, dogs & kids but please remember we are babies and proper introductions and consistent boundaries and training are a must to help me thrive as I grow.
We are accepting applications to be taken home as your new BFF and can't wait to find our forever!

17. Sampson

Puppy (4 months 6 days) · Male · Great Pyrenees (long coat) · 23 mi from Chapel Hill

A good samaritan learned about me living outside tied up by a chain and rescued me from those conditions. He knew he would not be able to keep me but also knew he couldn't leave me where I was. He took me to the vet, got me meds for my ear infection and got me all cleaned up. I'm now in a foster home with Pawfect Match and will learn how to be a puppy. I have a sweet, calm demeanor and have done well with dogs, kids and people although I'm a little shy at the moment.
I will need a home with a yard as I will be a big boy as I grow older. I will shed, require brushing and wil need someone who understands my breed.

Are you looking for a professional couch potato? How about a dog that basically sleeps on demand? Want a dog to pre-warm your bed before you get in? Look no further! Chip, AKA The House Hippo is DEFINITELY the dog for you.

Young at 5 years old, but with all that puppy stuff in the past? Check.
Good on a leash? Check.
Great with other dogs? Kids? Check, check.
Healthy? UTD on veterinary care? Neutered? Also check.

This dude is the total derpy package. He is sweet, gentle, and thinks his name should be Tiny, since he also believes he is a lap dog and will absolutely block your view of the TV if he joins you on the couch. But it is totally worth it, since he has an enormous amount of love to give. He was saved from euthanasia at a rural shelter with just hours to spare. And he is forever grateful and will for sure let it show. Chip would absolutely 100% benefit from being in a home with other dogs! We don’t think he would flourish as only dog!

Adult (2 years) · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat) · 23 mi from Chapel Hill

Meet Coda!

Coda was pulled from the shelter and spent time in boarding while being observed and trained! This boy has GREAT manners and such a great foundation for training!

A message from his trainer:

He's doing really well. Hes a different dog from the one I brought into the shelter.

Polite on a leash, knows basic obedience, understands dog manners well (still ignores them sometimes), and hes become way more social with people.

He'll still barks at someone that comes in the house initially or unexpectedly but is learning he's safe and with proper introductions warms up.

20. Nessa

Puppy (5 months 18 days) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Giant Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat) · 15 mi from Chapel Hill

Meet Nessa! We think she could be a mix of Lab or Great Dane and some sort of wiry-haired terrier, but whatever she is, her paws tell us she's going to be a great big beautiful girl. Good thing she's such a sweetheart who loves to learn. Nessa requests your treats and chin scratches and she can provide giant cuddles as payment!

Read more about Nessa

In her foster home, she's house trained, knows some basic commands like sit/down, and takes treats gently. She's learning to walk politely on a leash and sleeps well in her crate at night. She loves to chase the ball, but she hasn't yet gotten the hang of bringing it back. During the day, she's still learning that her crate can be her safe place because she loves to be with people. Having another dog in the home could help her feel more confident when her people leave the house.

Nessa is current on vaccines and microchipped.

21. Morpheus

Senior · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 25 mi from Chapel Hill

Do you need a buddy? A buddy for you? A buddy for your dog? A buddy for your older kiddo? This guy is the best at being a buddy! Morpheus is not only handsome, he's cuddly and adorable. He would love to hang out next to you on the couch, sleep with you in the bed (stairs please, if your bed is kinda high), and just be near. He loves belly rubs and snuggles and chin chucks. He rides great in the car, and he's pretty good on leash as well. He's house trained and is crate trained, but has free roam of his current foster home, along with his three foster brothers. He lives a quiet life with low key dogs, but every once in a while he'll get goofy and start rolling around on the floor like a big dork, making all kinds of happy sounds.

When he's displeased, he'll yodel a little, full disclosure. But it's not long-lived. He just wants to be around his people. So if you're looking for the easiest guy to have around, Morpheus is that guy. He might be a senior, but he's still got a lot of life and love to give. Hi,

I'm Peaches!

My brother and sisters and I were saved right in the nick of time with our mom when we found ourselves at the shelter. Us puppies had a sickness called parvo but Pawfect match acted quick and got us treated. We are now feeling better than ever and are happy to be thriving.

We are working on learning how to be a normal fun puppy and being loved on in our foster homes but would love to find our forever families to settle in our final spot.

Our mom is pictured in our photos and guess what?? One of my sibling had a DNA test and the results showed 50% Doberman Pinscher, 26.6% Great Pyrenees, 14.3% Super mutt and 9.1% Belgian Malinois. It is possible that my siblings and I could have different Dads so even a sibling DNA is no guarantee.

I hope to meet you soon at one of our upcoming events!

Young (11 months) · Male · Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat) · 23 mi from Chapel Hill

Benny’s story almost ended before it truly had a chance to begin. This sweet boy was sitting in a Georgia shelter and was scheduled to be euthanized that very day. With only hours left, he was pulled to safety—and now, thanks to Pawfect Match Rescue, Benny has a second chance to find the family he deserves. Benny is an approximately 9-month-old German Shepherd mix with all the fun, goofy energy you’d expect from a puppy! He loves to play, enjoys chewing on his bones, and when he’s finally worn himself out, he is more than happy to settle in for a good nap. And this smart boy already has some important skills under his belt! Benny is potty trained and crate trained.

He is also very food motivated, which can be a huge help as he continues learning and training. Benny is still young, and he does have more to learn. He needs a family who understands that becoming the best dog he can be takes patience, consistency, guidance, and love. Give this boy the chance to learn what’s expected of him, and he has so much potential to absolutely thrive. He came within hours of losing his life. 25. Freddie

Puppy (5 months 3 days) · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 23 mi from Chapel Hill

Hi future family! My name is Freddie, and I can't wait to meet you! I'm a chill girl, because while I do like to play, I also enjoy finding a soft place to snuggle up and take a nap. When it is time to play, I love to play tug of war or chew a squeaky toy. Exploring the yard is fun too! I can be shy when I meet new people, but my family is extremely important to me. A chew toy or a kong with a treat is a favorite for me, and if you're nearby, I'll take a nap peacefully for a few hours. If you have to leave the house, I'm happy to wait for you in my crate. I'm on a good potty schedule, and as long as I keep that schedule, I am housetrained! At night I am used to sleeping in my crate, but if you wanted me to snuggle up on your bed with you, I would absolutely love that! I hope I get to meet you soon!

27. Blue

Young (1 year 3 months) · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier / Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 23 mi from Chapel Hill

Blue was rescued by Pawfect Match just in time before the deadline thanks to a wonderful foster who stepped up to keep him safe. He has been dog friendly with the dogs he has met and has not been cat reactive but hasn't been officially cat tested.

Foster Update!

Blue is super high energy and wants to play all the time!

He is good with my small dog but constantly tries to get him to play.

I don’t have a cat but every time he sees one he tries to chase it so I’m not sure how he would do in a house with one.

Read more about Blue

He is a social butterfly and loves company of any kind; that being said he does not like being alone. He has gotten a bit better, but when I first left him alone he would destroy everything so consistent positive routines and reassurance is a must with this boy!

He is pretty much house trained at this point, we hardly have any accidents in the house anymore.

He would do well with an active, younger person or family. He walks well on a leash, but I would suggest using a harness. He knows how to escape the collar pretty well.

We will be neutering, vetting and gettin to know Blue and will update as we can!

This pup is eligible for our Test the Couch program — a 7-day trial adoption to see if your home (and your couch) is the perfect fit. Learn more https://pipsrescue.org/test-the-couch/Meet Jazz – your future backyard explorer, chase champion, and certified cuddle bug! While she’s not quite a swimmer (she’s more of a "dip a paw in and call it good" kind of gal), Jazz is all about the adventures in the fenced-in yard, sniffing out every blade of grass and investigating all things fun. If you’ve got a playmate for her, she’s ready to unleash her zoomies and show off her chase skills – she’s got the fastest paws in the game.Jazz is sweet, loves all the attention, and will definitely work her way into your heart with her charm and snuggles.

Read more about Jazz

Food-motivated and eager to please, she learns quickly – so training is a breeze if you’ve got treats on hand. She’s crate trained and housetrained (she knows where the bathroom is, no need for a tour), but honestly, she’d rather skip the crate and curl up next to you for a good snuggle session.Bonus points if you’ve got a fellow pup to keep her company. Jazz would love a playmate to share her backyard adventures and zoomies with. So if you're looking for a sweet, playful, and cuddly companion, Jazz is your girl!

30. Bruno

Adult (6 years) · Male · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 14 mi from Chapel Hill

Meet Bruno! At 6 years old, Bruno has the perfect balance of playful energy and laidback companionship. He's been waiting far too long for his forever family, and everyone who knows him agrees—it's finally his turn. This handsome, happy boy weighs about 65 pounds and has an infectious smile that's impossible to resist.

With one ear standing tall and the other adorably flopped over, Bruno is as unique on the outside as he is on the inside. While he isn't exactly lap dog sized, don't tell him that! He loves being close to his people, soaking up affection, handing out sweet kisses, and claiming his favorite spot right beside you on the couch.

Read more about Bruno

Bruno has settled beautifully into foster care and has shown everyone what makes him such a special companion. He's fully house trained, crate trained, and is perfectly content relaxing in his crate when left home alone. Around the house, he's an easygoing guy who enjoys lounging on the couch, chewing on a frozen treat, or entertaining himself with his toy collection. His absolute favorite? A Lamb Chop stuffie!

Bruno would thrive as the only dog in his home, where he can soak up all the love and attention. While he's not looking for a busy multi-dog household, he has shown that he can enjoy the company of respectful female dogs. He has made several female dog friends and loves having supervised play sessions with them, as long as they respect his pace and personal space. Because of this, we'd be happy to discuss a home with the right easygoing female dog, but Bruno's ideal match is a family where he can be the center of attention.

He enjoys walks and does well on leash, though he's still working on polishing his leash manners when he gets excited. He also loves chasing thrown toys, even if bringing them back is still a work in progress! Due to his size and enthusiastic personality, Bruno would do best in a home with children ages 10 and older. Bruno has spent far too much time waiting for someone to choose him.

At 6 years old, he's past the puppy chaos but still has plenty of life, love, and playful moments to share. He's ready for a family that will appreciate his goofy personality, loyal heart, and love of life's simple pleasures—like couch cuddles, stuffed toys, and spending time with his favorite humans.

Adopting a large dog in Chapel Hill

Large dogs need room to stretch out and plenty of exercise: at least one good walk a day, and a secure yard is a bonus. Check your lease too, as some landlords limit the size or breed of dog.

Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
