1. Nemo

Young · Male · German Shepherd Dog / Mixed · 23 mi from Wake Forest

COURTESY POST !!! DO NOT APPLY TO RUSTY'S PLEASE APPLY HERE: Adoption Application Form https://share.google/UBQ9UhYNIlUmPIGtI HELP US FIND NEMO HIS HAPPY ENDING! Our sweet boy Nemo is just a couple of weeks away from graduating from his SIX-WEEK BOARD AND TRAIN PROGRAM, and we have one very important thing left to accomplish. WE NEED TO FIND HIM A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME! Nemo has spent the last several weeks working incredibly hard to become the best version of himself. He's learned obedience, built confidence, improved his social skills, and made some truly amazing progress. But there's one thing we can't teach him in training.

Read more about Nemo

What it feels like to have a home of his very own. Nemo is an incredibly intelligent, affectionate, active boy who bonds deeply with his people. Once you're his person, you're HIS person, and he will absolutely adore you. He's also got a few quirks, and we want to be completely transparent about what his perfect home looks like. Children 15 and older: Nemo does best with people who understand boundaries and can respect his personal space. No small animals: While Nemo does well with other dogs, smaller animals aren't a good fit for him. Dog friendly: With proper introductions, Nemo enjoys other dogs! He has a particularly funny fascination with black, fluffy dogs. Apparently, our handsome boy has a type! A quieter household: Nemo would thrive in a home with a predictable routine, a little peace and quiet, and people he can build a strong relationship with. An active family: Hiking, running, exploring, and outdoor adventures? Nemo would LOVE that! He's a smart, energetic boy who enjoys having things to do. Supervised outdoor time: Nemo is quite the talented fence climber! Although his recall has improved tremendously, he still needs supervision and secure handling outdoors. Continued respect for his boundaries: Nemo has made wonderful progress with meeting new people and navigating public environments. He just needs strangers to approach appropriately and give him a chance to feel comfortable. AND THE BEST PART? NEMO COMES WITH LIFETIME TRAINING SUPPORT! We're not simply handing Nemo over with a list of commands and wishing everyone good luck. His new family will receive: Lifetime refresher training sessions Help from his trainer during his transition into his new home Guidance on maintaining his obedience and continuing his progress Support to help Nemo and his new family build a wonderful relationship We have invested six weeks into helping Nemo succeed, and we're committed to making sure that success continues long after graduation. Now, here's the part that breaks our hearts. Nemo does not do well in a traditional boarding environment. He struggles emotionally, becomes withdrawn, and simply isn't the same happy, affectionate dog we see when he's able to spend time with people and participate in everyday life. We've watched him blossom throughout his training. We've seen his personality shine, his confidence grow, and his ability to navigate the world improve. The thought of him finishing all this hard work only to return to a kennel is absolutely devastating. Nemo deserves to graduate into a HOME, not back into boarding. He doesn't need a perfect family. He needs the right family. Someone patient. Someone active. Someone who appreciates a dog with a big personality, a huge heart, and a few little quirks. Someone who understands that rescue dogs aren't always perfect, but they are absolutely worth the effort. And if you're not quite ready to adopt? FOSTERING NEMO WOULD BE JUST AS INCREDIBLE! Giving him somewhere comfortable to land while we search for his forever family would mean the world to us and, more importantly, to Nemo. NEMO'S NEXT CHAPTER IS WAITING! Charlotte, NC Foster or forever home needed Graduating from his six-week training program soon Lifetime training support included Apply at https://stabrescue.com Please, please share our sweet boy. Senior · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 13 mi from Wake Forest

Do you need a buddy? A buddy for you? A buddy for your dog? A buddy for your older kiddo? This guy is the best at being a buddy! Morpheus is not only handsome, he's cuddly and adorable. He would love to hang out next to you on the couch, sleep with you in the bed (stairs please, if your bed is kinda high), and just be near. He loves belly rubs and snuggles and chin chucks. He rides great in the car, and he's pretty good on leash as well. He's house trained and is crate trained, but has free roam of his current foster home, along with his three foster brothers. He lives a quiet life with low key dogs, but every once in a while he'll get goofy and start rolling around on the floor like a big dork, making all kinds of happy sounds.

5. Diesel

Young · Male · Hound / Boxer / Mixed · 5 mi from Wake Forest

(DOB 01/01/2026) Diesel is truly the sweetest boy with so much love to give. He absolutely adores his humans and loves them unconditionally. He’s wonderful with children and what kid wouldn't love rubbing his big hound-y ears? Plus, he's always happy to soak up as many belly rubs as you’re willing to give! Diesel does well with other dogs, but he’s also perfectly content entertaining himself with his toys, chewing on a favorite bone, or curling up on a dog bed or couch with his stuffed animal. He doesn’t need constant excitement, he’s just happy being near the people he loves. He'd love his forever home to have a fenced in yard for him and his playmates (doggie or kiddos) to romp and have a good 'ole time!He can be a little sad when his person leaves the room or when it’s time to go into his crate and may cry for a few minutes.

14. Bruno

Adult (6 years) · Male · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 21 mi from Wake Forest

Meet Bruno! At 6 years old, Bruno has the perfect balance of playful energy and laidback companionship. He's been waiting far too long for his forever family, and everyone who knows him agrees—it's finally his turn. This handsome, happy boy weighs about 65 pounds and has an infectious smile that's impossible to resist.

With one ear standing tall and the other adorably flopped over, Bruno is as unique on the outside as he is on the inside. While he isn't exactly lap dog sized, don't tell him that! He loves being close to his people, soaking up affection, handing out sweet kisses, and claiming his favorite spot right beside you on the couch.

Read more about Bruno

Bruno has settled beautifully into foster care and has shown everyone what makes him such a special companion. He's fully house trained, crate trained, and is perfectly content relaxing in his crate when left home alone. Around the house, he's an easygoing guy who enjoys lounging on the couch, chewing on a frozen treat, or entertaining himself with his toy collection. His absolute favorite? A Lamb Chop stuffie!

Bruno would thrive as the only dog in his home, where he can soak up all the love and attention. While he's not looking for a busy multi-dog household, he has shown that he can enjoy the company of respectful female dogs. He has made several female dog friends and loves having supervised play sessions with them, as long as they respect his pace and personal space. Because of this, we'd be happy to discuss a home with the right easygoing female dog, but Bruno's ideal match is a family where he can be the center of attention.

He enjoys walks and does well on leash, though he's still working on polishing his leash manners when he gets excited. He also loves chasing thrown toys, even if bringing them back is still a work in progress! Due to his size and enthusiastic personality, Bruno would do best in a home with children ages 10 and older. Bruno has spent far too much time waiting for someone to choose him.

At 6 years old, he's past the puppy chaos but still has plenty of life, love, and playful moments to share. He's ready for a family that will appreciate his goofy personality, loyal heart, and love of life's simple pleasures—like couch cuddles, stuffed toys, and spending time with his favorite humans.

He loves making new friends and playing around, but he prefers smaller play groups to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Cats, on the other hand, don't quite understand Mason's playful nature, so it's best to give them a wide berth! He might not realize his own size, and he can be a bit clumsy at times. So, older kids who understand his exuberance are his best playmates!Don't be fooled by his silly antics – Mason is one smart cookie! He has mastered impressive tricks like sitting, spinning, and shaking, all for the promise of a tasty treat. Easy to crate, he'll only make a peep if he can't see you, so you can rest assured that your home will stay peaceful with Mason around, but when he does bark, it is loud. When it comes to toys, there's one that reigns supreme in Mason's heart: a squeaky rubber chicken. He'll toss it, bat it, and have a grand old time playing with it all by himself. If you want to join in on the fun, just throw it and watch Mason happily chase after it! A rubber Frisbee is also a favorite, though he doesn't always bring it back – hey, sharing can be overrated! With Mason by your side, you'll always feel safe and secure. He's a natural watch dog who will bark at any stranger. Always the protector, he would do better in a home that doesn't have a have a lot of company in and out, and will need proper introduction to household visitors. With her supermodel-sleek physique and gorgeous chocolate brown coat, she “dresses up beautifully” in vibrant colors like, bright pink, sunny yellow, or light blue outfits look stunning on her. Feel free to let her strut her stuff when you’re out and about!Freya is an incredible Doberman with a big heart, a sharp mind, and energy to spare. Past the crazy puppy phase and still has plenty of puppy sparkle and enthusiasm for life. Read more about Freya

With her intelligence and drive to please, Freya would absolutely shine in agility, Rally Obedience, or any activity that keeps her both physically and mentally engaged. And true to Doberman form, she’ll happily sneak in cuddles and kisses between adventures.Freya is highly intelligent and eager to learn. She listens very well to commands she already knows and picks up new ones quickly, making her a fantastic match for an experienced owner who understands working breeds. She enjoys having a job to do and thrives with structure, consistency, and continued training. Daily exercise and mental stimulation are musts for this girl, and she’ll reward you with loyalty, focus, and lots of love.In the home, Freya is fully house trained and crates well. She is currently learning to walk more politely on leash and continues to improve with practice. In her yard she will let you know if she hears something out of the ordinary; just part of her being an awesome watchdog. That said, she has loved every person she’s met and is social, affectionate, and confident with humans.Freya's ideal home is one where she will be your "one & only" that allows for a calmer environment. She is too cat curious for placemnet in a home with cats. When it comes to dogs, she is very selective about her canine friends and has been corrective with dog friends when they cross her boundaries. Slow introductions, decompression time, and a submissive, respectful canine companion "may" work, but again, her ideal situation would be as an only pet.Freya is still polishing her food manners and can get a little enthusiastic when food/treats are involved, sometimes forgetting just how big and strong she is. She’s already making progress with training and consistency, and with continued guidance she’ll continue to improve. Because of this, she’d do best in an adult-only home or one with older teens (15+) who understand boundaries around food and can help reinforce calm, polite behavior. She's ready to start her next chapter with you!! So if you are that active, committed home that wants to truly include her in everyday life and if you’re looking for a smart, loyal, adventurous companion with classic Doberman charm, Freya may be your perfect match. As part of Freya’s $300 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet girl, you can email Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. 21. Franky

Young · Male · Hound / Bulldog / Mixed · 5 mi from Wake Forest

(DOB 02/26/2022) Franky is the sweetest boy EVER!! Franky really loves his humans = a bit of a velcro pup for sure! Franky has the best smile and his eyes squint in the sun...it's adorable.Frankly absolutely loves being outside in the fenced back yard. He would really, really love one in his fur-ever home. He looks forward to being outside numerous times throughout the day on leash (front yard, brief walks) and off leash (fenced backyard). He loves exploring, running, sunning and playing in the backyard, especially when one of his doggie friends join him. He is also happy just laying around outside and taking a bit of a sun bath.

He hasn't mastered walking on a leash, so a family that has some members that are patient and can handle a strong pup on leash until he learns this and it becomes a routine for him. Franky loves food related enrichment!! Any kind of enrichment toy that involves food is his favorite (kongs, lick mats, bento treat balls, etc.). He will occasionally chew on nylabones and that kind of thing. He also loves chew toys. Franky is food/treat motivated, so a very good way to continue fun training activities with him. He's easily redirected and eager to please is humans.Franky is already crate and house trained. "I’ve never met a better crate trained dog." Franky is happy to go night-night in his crate and be snuggled up and happy until the morning. So far, it seems like Frankly likes submissive dogs about his size. How the other dog reacts to him usually dictates the outcome. That being said, he is definitely interested in being social with our other dogs. They just need the proper introduction. So he could be in a home with other dogs or as an only dog with humans that would love and dote on him. Franky doesn’t have to have children in the home, but if there are then they should be sturdy and/or older because of his energy level. Plus, he still a little nippy and mouthy. He does have some anxiety and is currently on Trazadone, and he is perfectly fine. As part of Franky's $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.
