1. Papito

Adult (3 years 1 month) · Male · Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 81 mi from Bryan

DOB 10/1623, weight 16 #

Hey there, everyone! I’m Papito, a black and tan Jackshund (Jack Russell/ Dachshund mix) fella. I was happily situated in my adoptive home until my owners encountered financial difficulties. Unfortunately they had to downsize to a smaller home and couldn’t take me with them. Thank heavens my new foster mom welcomed me with open arms until I can find a new home. I get along great with the visiting grandkids, other small dogs, and even the cats in my foster home, although I’m nervous around large dogs whom I meet on walks.

Read more about Papito

Because my previous household was quiet, when I first arrived in my foster home, I was very fearful and shy because of the robust dog and cat activity. Fortunately, Foster Mom knew that it would take time and patience for me to adjust into my new “digs,” and with her gentle voice and affectionate touch, she has been showing me that I am securely loved, and --voilà! – watching me blossom has been something truly special for her. My prior owners had not trained me well, but Foster Mom is helping me work on my housetraining and crate-training – let’s just say that I’m a work-in-progress.

Now I’m looking for the family who will welcome me into my forever household. If you have a quiet home and a little patience, I think we might be exactly who each of us has been waiting for. Arrange to meet me today! My heart has so much love to give – all I need is YOU!

HOPE ID D26-1016-0055

Papito’s $200 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, basic vaccines, microchip and registration, testing for heartworms, negative fecal test, and preventative treatment for heartworms and fleas.

To apply online:http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php

If you have questions prior to filling out the application or want to find out which adoption site that Papito will be this weekend, email us at lisagilchrist16@gmail.com, and a volunteer will get back to you.

2. Tonka II

Young · Male · Boxer · 86 mi from Bryan

11/1/2026Tonka II is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Tonka II! I am a handsome 2 year old brindle boy that is an owner surrender due to my family moving and my breed not being allowed. I am described as friendly, active, noisy, playful, affectionate, and obedient! I currently live with an older lab but am said to be dog friendly with dogs of all sizes. I currently live with cats and because I don't know personal space, they don't want to play with me. I currently live with 3 kids (ages 19 month to 13 years) and am gentle with the baby and like to play rough with the older kids.

Read more about Tonka II

I'm a happy guy and have only met one person I didn't like out of the many people I have been around! I am house trained, crate trained, and can be picky with some of my favorite food depending on the day. At night I sleep with the kid or in the kennel with the other dog. I don't do well sleeping alone and will cry and scratch at the kennel if left by myself to sleep. If the humans must be away, I will cry and bark in the crate and will chew on the furniture if left to roam. When outside I do not attempt to jump fences/gates but am curious what is under the grass and will dig to find out. I am scared of water, baths, being alone, and being left outside too long due to having a heat stroke in the past. Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, chewing on toys, playing fetch, toys, being outside, cuddles, love, smiling when I want something, hitting the humans with my paws when I want something, nudge and paw the food container when it's time to eat, being in the human's lap, and dog treats! If you think I would make a great addition to your family, contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you!

11/2/2026Rex III is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Rex III! I am a handsome 3 year old white/brown boy that is an owner surrender due to no longer getting along with the other dog that I live with and for everyone's safety, I must be the only dog in the home. I am described as friendly, active, smart, noisy, playful, and affectionate! There are no children or cats in my home so it's uncertain if I am feline or kid friendly. I am house trained, crate trained, and eat High Point All Life Stages dog food in a slow feeder. At night I sleep in the bed with the humans and if they must be away from the home, I am fine being crated or else I will get into things I shouldn't.

I am able to jump over a kiddie gate but not a standard fence. When outside I am curious what is under the grass and will dig to find out. Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, plush toys that I can't magically explode, rubber toys, running, going for walks, and playing outside! 4. Lucy Lou II

Young · Female · Boxer · 86 mi from Bryan

11/2/2026Lucy Lou II is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Lucy Lou II! I am a beautiful 1 year old flashy fawn girl that is an owner surrender due to my owner being a truck driver and not having the time for me and life on the road is not ideal for me. I am described as friendly, active, smart, noisy, and playful! I do not live with other dogs but it is said that I am dog friendly. I do not live with cats or kids, so it is uncertain if I am cat or kid friendly. I do jump on people because I get very excited so my caretaker says I may not be a good fit for a family with small children.

Read more about Lucy Lou II

I know basic commands, am house trained, but would need assistance with crate training if that is required in my forever home. I eat Healthy Choice puppy food from Tractor Supply and at night I sleep in the bed or recliner with the humans. I do sleep on my dog bed, but that is a very rare occasion. If the humans must be away, I am good but I have never been left alone for more than 2 hours. When outside I have good behavior and do not dig or attempt to jump fences/gates. I am fearful of fireworks and do not like being told no, getting too hot, or being crated/locked in confined spaces. Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, tire with rope toy, squeaky toys, chewing on plastic bottles, catching water from the hose, sleeping by the humans feet or under the blankets, 'argue' or 'talk back' when I don't' get what I want, playing with dogs my size, and treats! Adult · Male · Boxer · 86 mi from Bryan

Hi! My name is Pele! I am a handsome 2-3 year old flashy fawn boy that has a super goofy and loveable personality and enjoys life! I love to play fetch, sprint around the backyard, going on walks followed by cuddles and affection, preferably in the human's lap! I have great house manners and do not beg or counter surf. Sometimes if I am bored or not getting sufficient attention, I will bring a random shoe or stuffed animal to the humans but am not destructive. I am house trained, crate trained, and leash trained! I currently live with an older lady dog and we get along well together. While on walks I am not phased by other dogs and have been fine and chill with other pups I've met! There are 3 kids in my foster home (ages 11-16 years) and I am good with them and all of their friends that come to visit! My foster family thinks I would be friendly with younger kids, but might be a bit rambunctious and they might get 'love taps' with my enthusiastic tail! As for cats, I was introduced to a neighbor cat and I was very intent on keeping an eye on it, so I may do best in a cat free home.

Dash (originally named 'BESO' by CAP) was pulled from CAP after he showed 'kennel cough' symptoms. Since there are so many unvaccinated/young dogs in the shelter, it was not safe for anyone to leave him there. Adult (8 years 11 months) · Female · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat) · 67 mi from Bryan

Meet Meliyah—a tiny girl with a big love for lap time!

This sweet Yorkie mix weighs just 6.24 pounds and is happiest cuddling with her people. Her previous owner describes her as affectionate, playful, gentle, and eager to please. She enjoys comfy dog beds, couch time, and making sure you know when someone is at the door!

Read more about Meliyah

Meliyah is reported to be house-trained, leash-trained, and a good car passenger. She gets along with other dogs, but she would also enjoy being the center of someone’s world. She needs a home without cats or toddlers. Her former owner reported that she growled or snapped when a toddler handled her roughly, so gentle handling and respect for her small size are essential.

Her family surrendered her out of concern for her safety after rough toddler interactions and another dog’s food aggression toward her. Now she’s looking for a home where she can relax, feel secure, and soak up the affection she loves.

Since coming into rescue, Meliyah has been spayed and received a dental cleaning, vaccinations, and parasite prevention. She tested negative for heartworms.

Have room in your heart—and on your lap—for Meliyah? Apply to adopt through Yorkie Rescue Houston!

She is on a 'sensitive stomach' food and owner reports success with that.

28. Luna XIV

Senior · Female · Boxer · 86 mi from Bryan

10/23/2026Luna XIV is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Luna XIV! I am a beautiful 7.5 year old flashy fawn girl that is an owner surrender due to not getting along with the other dog in the home and for everyone's safety, I need to be the only dog in the home. I am described as friendly, active, smart, protective, playful, affectionate, and nervous! I have never lived with a cat so it is uncertain if I am feline friendly. I currently live with an 11 year old kid and have had exposure to many young cousins and I love them! I am house trained, crate trained, eat regular kibble, and sleep in the human's room or my kennel.

If the humans must be away, I am calm being left alone. When outside I have good behavior and do not dig or attempt to jump fences/gates. I am fearful of the vacuum but love riding in the car, stuffed animals, playing, laying on the couch covered with a blanket and being pet, and jumping around! If you think I would make a great addition to your family contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you!

The Process to adopt a dog through Austin Boxer Rescue is as follows: Fill out an Online Adoption Application below. Your application will be reviewed and sent to a volunteer in your area. The volunteer will contact you to schedule a home visit within one week. Normally, a volunteer would come to your house for a home visit, but until further notice, visits are being done virtually. Adopting a dog in Bryan

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
