1. Papito
Adult (3 years 1 month) · Male · Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 81 mi from Bryan

DOB 10/1623, weight 16 #
Hey there, everyone! I’m Papito, a black and tan Jackshund (Jack Russell/ Dachshund mix) fella. I was happily situated in my adoptive home until my owners encountered financial difficulties. Unfortunately they had to downsize to a smaller home and couldn’t take me with them. Thank heavens my new foster mom welcomed me with open arms until I can find a new home. I get along great with the visiting grandkids, other small dogs, and even the cats in my foster home, although I’m nervous around large dogs whom I meet on walks.
Read more about Papito
Because my previous household was quiet, when I first arrived in my foster home, I was very fearful and shy because of the robust dog and cat activity. Fortunately, Foster Mom knew that it would take time and patience for me to adjust into my new “digs,” and with her gentle voice and affectionate touch, she has been showing me that I am securely loved, and --voilà! – watching me blossom has been something truly special for her. My prior owners had not trained me well, but Foster Mom is helping me work on my housetraining and crate-training – let’s just say that I’m a work-in-progress.
Now I’m looking for the family who will welcome me into my forever household. If you have a quiet home and a little patience, I think we might be exactly who each of us has been waiting for. Arrange to meet me today! My heart has so much love to give – all I need is YOU!
HOPE ID D26-1016-0055
Papito’s $200 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, basic vaccines, microchip and registration, testing for heartworms, negative fecal test, and preventative treatment for heartworms and fleas.

2. Tonka II
Young · Male · Boxer · 86 mi from Bryan

11/1/2026Tonka II is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Tonka II! I am a handsome 2 year old brindle boy that is an owner surrender due to my family moving and my breed not being allowed. I am described as friendly, active, noisy, playful, affectionate, and obedient! I currently live with an older lab but am said to be dog friendly with dogs of all sizes. I currently live with cats and because I don't know personal space, they don't want to play with me. I currently live with 3 kids (ages 19 month to 13 years) and am gentle with the baby and like to play rough with the older kids.
Read more about Tonka II
I'm a happy guy and have only met one person I didn't like out of the many people I have been around! I am house trained, crate trained, and can be picky with some of my favorite food depending on the day. At night I sleep with the kid or in the kennel with the other dog. I don't do well sleeping alone and will cry and scratch at the kennel if left by myself to sleep. If the humans must be away, I will cry and bark in the crate and will chew on the furniture if left to roam. When outside I do not attempt to jump fences/gates but am curious what is under the grass and will dig to find out. I am scared of water, baths, being alone, and being left outside too long due to having a heat stroke in the past. Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, chewing on toys, playing fetch, toys, being outside, cuddles, love, smiling when I want something, hitting the humans with my paws when I want something, nudge and paw the food container when it's time to eat, being in the human's lap, and dog treats! If you think I would make a great addition to your family, contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you!

11/1/2026Luna XV is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Luna XV! I am a beautiful 4 year old flashy fawn girl that is an owner surrender due to my owner getting divorced, selling their home, and unable to keep me. I am described as friendly, active, playful, and affectionate! I grew up with another boxer, tiny terrier, and a frenchie and am said to be dog friendly with them. I recently met a senior dog and I wanted to be the boss of her and could benefit from more training, especially since I'm eager to please! I currently live with a cat and will bark at it when it is out of my reach but I can see it.

There are three kids in the home (ages 12-18 years) and have had all ages around me and am said to be kid friendly! I am house trained, crate trained, know basic commands, and sleep in my crate or on the dog bed at night. If the humans must be away, I have a little separation anxiety when left alone. When outside I have good behavior and do not dig or attempt to jump fences/gates and am pet gate trained! Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, squeaky toy balls, super chewer toys, love, playing, and giving slobbery kisses! Young (2 years) · Male · Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier / Cairn Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 81 mi from Bryan

DOB 10/16/24, weight 22 pounds
Hey there, everyone! I’m Boy, a happy, friendly, and calm grey-cream Wheaton/ Cairn Terrier mix fella who weighs exactly in the middle of these two breeds! What a perfect size I am to be devoted to all ages of hoomans in my foster home – adults and grandkids. Plus I get along great with the cats and other small dogs! I’m already crate- and house-trained, which is another bonus.

I was happily situated in my adoptive home, along with my little buddy King, until my hooman mom was hospitalized and my elderly hooman dad could not care for the two of us. Thank heavens my new foster mom opened her arms and home to both of us until we can find a new home. If you’re looking for a sweet scruffy terrier who’s just the right size – not to small and not too large – I’m the loving boy made to order for you. Arrange to meet me today, and see if I don’t cause love and laughter to echo throughout your house among you and your kids.

5. Dash
Adult (6 years 5 months) · Male · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat) · 67 mi from Bryan

Dash (originally named 'BESO' by CAP) was pulled from CAP after he showed 'kennel cough' symptoms. Since there are so many unvaccinated/young dogs in the shelter, it was not safe for anyone to leave him there. ALL of our dogs are fully vaccinated against kennel cough, so bringing him into our care was safe. He went straight to our vet, where they told us he showed NO sign of kennel cough. (Probably just the irritation of the trachea from his trach tube during his neuter surgery!) This little boy is a delight.

6. Meliyah
Adult (8 years 11 months) · Female · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat) · 67 mi from Bryan

Meet Meliyah—a tiny girl with a big love for lap time!
This sweet Yorkie mix weighs just 6.24 pounds and is happiest cuddling with her people. Her previous owner describes her as affectionate, playful, gentle, and eager to please. She enjoys comfy dog beds, couch time, and making sure you know when someone is at the door!
Read more about Meliyah
Meliyah is reported to be house-trained, leash-trained, and a good car passenger. She gets along with other dogs, but she would also enjoy being the center of someone’s world. She needs a home without cats or toddlers. Her former owner reported that she growled or snapped when a toddler handled her roughly, so gentle handling and respect for her small size are essential.
Her family surrendered her out of concern for her safety after rough toddler interactions and another dog’s food aggression toward her. Now she’s looking for a home where she can relax, feel secure, and soak up the affection she loves.
Since coming into rescue, Meliyah has been spayed and received a dental cleaning, vaccinations, and parasite prevention. She tested negative for heartworms.
Have room in your heart—and on your lap—for Meliyah? Apply to adopt through Yorkie Rescue Houston!
She is on a 'sensitive stomach' food and owner reports success with that.

16. Phoenix IV
Senior · Female · Boxer · 86 mi from Bryan

10/23/2026Phoenix IV is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Phoenix IV! I am a beautiful 7.5 year old fawn girl that is an owner surrender due to not getting along with the other dog in the home and for everyone's safety I need to find a home of my own. I am described as friendly, smart, protective, playful, affectionate, and nervous! It should be mentioned I have some hip dysplasia, TPLO on my rear left leg, and FHO on my right rear leg, but I do not let it slow me down! I do not get along with the other dog in my home but am said to get along with other dogs at doggy daycare and boarding.
Read more about Phoenix IV
I currently live with cats and we are said to get along well! Sometimes we snuggle and I like to playfully chase them off if they drink from my water. I currently live with a 14 year old kid and my owner says I would do best with older kids. When new people come in the home I will bark at them because I am protective of my humans. I am house trained, crate trained, eat Royal Canin Boxer food, and sleep on the couch or human bed at night. If the humans must be away, I have learned to calm myself and will mostly sleep awaiting their arrival. When outside I have good behavior and do not dig or attempt to jump fences/gates. When scolded I cower and get very scared so positive reinforcement works great for me! I'm fearful of thunderstorms and I do need anxiety meds when experiencing new things or during stressful situations. I love riding in the car, greenies, bully sticks, belly and neck scratches, following the humans around when cleaning or doing yardwork, and staring at the humans intensely until they give in to what I want! If you think I would make a great addition to your family, contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you!

29. Kirby
Senior · Female · Boxer · 86 mi from Bryan

10/2/2026Kirby is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Kirby! I am a beautiful 6-year-old flashy fawn girl that is an owner surrender due to my current family unable to care for me. I am described as friendly, active, protective, playful, affectionate, and nervous! I am picky when it comes to my dog friends so a proper meet and greet is recommended. I currently live with two cats and I get along great with them! I currently live with a 16-month-old child and get along well with kids, but can get nervous if they are too rambunctious around me. I like to have boundaries and people and animals respect them.

I am house trained, crate trained, eat a chicken free food due to being allergic to chicken, and at night I sleep on my dog bed! When outside I have good behavior and do not dig or attempt to jump fences/gates. In the past I have jumped a baby gate but it was to get outside and use the bathroom. I do not like quick, aggressive play or loud noises. I love to go on walks and playing! If you think I would make a great addition to your family contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you!

30. Chiki
Senior (8 years) · Female · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat) · 67 mi from Bryan

Chiki — 7 Pounds of Love, Opinions & Main-Character Energy
Meet Chiki, an 8-year-old, approximately 7½-pound spayed little lady whose former owner described her as a Yorkie/Maltese mix. She has spent all eight years of her life with the same family, so finding herself in rescue is a very big change for this tiny girl.
Read more about Chiki
Chiki wasn’t surrendered because she did anything wrong. Her family welcomed premature twin girls at only 27 weeks, followed by a 95-day NICU stay. One of the babies developed chronic lung disease and needs to be kept away from animals and other potential triggers. Chiki consequently had to begin living separately from the family she had always been accustomed to being with, and her owner recognized that Chiki deserved a home where she could once again be part of someone’s everyday life.
And being with her people is exactly what Chiki wants.
She’s a people girl
Her former family describes Chiki as affectionate, playful, a lap dog and a toy lover. She wants attention and closeness, and she especially enjoys people who are generous with affection.
There is, however, a little Yorkie-sized security department operating inside that 7-pound body.
Chiki is territorial and vocal. She barks. A lot. She takes a little time to decide whether a stranger has been cleared for entry into her inner circle, but once she knows you, the affection comes out. Her former owner was very clear that although Chiki is a barker, she is not aggressive.
Translation: Chiki has opinions, and she believes the neighborhood should hear them.
Her surrender paperwork also notes separation anxiety, which makes sense for a dog who spent her entire life closely attached to one family. An adopter who is home frequently and wants a genuinely companion-oriented dog may be an especially good fit.
Potty training: we're going to be honest
Chiki’s owner reported that she is not housebroken.
That means her adopter needs to be prepared for potty training — not merely hope she magically figures it out after moving into yet another unfamiliar environment. Consistency, routine, supervision and patience will be part of the deal.
If pristine floors are your highest priority, Chiki is probably not your girl.
If helping a little senior learn a new routine doesn't scare you, keep reading.
Cats? Nope.
Her surrender form specifically identifies Chiki as not cat friendly, so we are looking for a home without cats.
The medical glow-up
Chiki came into rescue at a beautifully appropriate weight. At her veterinary visits she weighed approximately 7.4–7.5 pounds, with an ideal body-condition score.
Her intake examination was otherwise reassuring: her eyes and ears were clear, heart and lung examinations were normal, her abdomen was comfortable, her skin and coat looked good, and she was walking normally without observed lameness. Her fecal testing was also negative for parasites, Giardia and Coccidia.
The big item on Chiki’s medical to-do list was her mouth.
She arrived with moderate dental disease, and rescue took care of it. Chiki underwent a full dental cleaning with dental X-rays and had nine teeth extracted. Her pre-anesthetic bloodwork was reported as normal.
So yes, girlfriend got the full dental spa package.
She is also microchipped, is reported as up to date on her core vaccines, received ProHeart heartworm prevention and Bravecto flea/tick prevention, and had her nails trimmed and anal glands expressed while getting established with rescue.
What Chiki needs now
For eight years, Chiki knew exactly where she belonged.
Then life changed around her.
Now she needs someone willing to give her the time to understand that she belongs somewhere again.
Her ideal adopter will appreciate a dog who wants closeness, won't be rattled by some barking, understands that she may initially be suspicious of newcomers, and is willing to work patiently on house training and separation anxiety.

Bringing a dog home to your cat
Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.
Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.
Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.
