1. Luna
Adult (7 years 5 months) · Female · Husky (medium coat) · 11 mi from Litchfield

This gorgeous girl has a beautifully calm and sweet temperament! You would never guess her age by looking at her and she loves going for long walks and hikes in any weather. She adores her tennis balls and plays like a puppy when you toss her one, and she's an angel for grooming and tick checks. She’s not a big puller on leash and she seems like she would do really well with other dogs (play groups soon to come!). Luna really seems to have a great balanced personality with enthusiasm for adventures but also is happy to calmly cuddle on the couch. Come meet her and try not to fall in love with those beautiful blue eyes!

Please note that we are often asked if dogs are "house trained". The dogs are in fact living in a kennel environment during their time with us. Even if they have previously lived in a home and been trained - the stress of the change and the new home can sometimes cause regression and require some additional training. We feel that it's best for all adopters to be prepared for this possibility.
2. Scooter
Senior (10 years 11 months) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 11 mi from Litchfield

BONDED PAIR
Read more about Scooter
Scooter is such a happy and friendly little senior man that absolutely loves everyone he meets. He is bonded with his brother Tucker so they are a package deal, but they are a pretty easy duo that would fit nicely into anyone's lifestyle. Even though he’s a quarter of the size as his brother I’d say Scooter is the leader of their mini pack and seems to be a confident little guy. He is nice and calm and would love to cuddle on the couch but he also enjoys his leisurely walks where he can check out all the daily smells. He doesn’t seem crazy about his toys, he mostly just likes to hang out on the back of their chair in their room so if you have a comfy chair with a nice window view Scooter would urge you to come say hello!

3. Tucker
Senior (8 years 7 months) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 11 mi from Litchfield

BONDED PAIR
Read more about Tucker
Tucker is your typical happy go lucky yellow lab with 100 lbs of love to give. He is bonded with his brother Scooter who he absolutely loves and gets so excited to see whenever they are apart for a few. They are a package deal but they are both the sweetest senior boys you’ll ever meet. Tucker is in love with his soft toys and likes to carry them around while he happily grumbles and gives you his butt for some scratches. He is very happy to go on his walks so he can “read the daily news” and check out all the good smells. Everyone he’s met has been a new best friend in his eyes and he immediately looks for some good rubs and lovin. Tucker will make a great laid back companion for movie nights and still has plenty of happy energy to keep his new family entertained with goofy play time. Him and his brother are eager to see their new forever home and we can’t wait to see who scoops them up!

4. Roo
Adult (10 months) · Male · Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 11 mi from Litchfield

This big goofy love bug really earns his name with that long tail and bouncy happy energy! Roo loves every person he meets and he’ll lean into you for lots of love and cuddles. He may be big but he’s just a silly puppy looking for a new best friend to play with. Despite having a hard life so far being found on the street very underweight and missing some fur he absolutely loves life and is always ready for new adventures! He can keep himself entertained with a soft toy for a while and he is so happy to go for walks and hikes with his people. After play time he would be happy to cuddle on the couch and watch some good TV too. If you’re looking for a goofy active addition to your home Roo would be thrilled to meet you!

5. Dakota
Senior (9 years 1 month) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 11 mi from Litchfield

Dakota is an adorable 9 yr old pocket pity with a sensitive soul looking for her new forever home. She can be a little shy but once she gets to know you she likes to talk to you with little grumbles to let you know she’s excited to see you. She looks great for her age with just a little arthritis in her back hips but she gets around just fine! She would surely love a new couch to curl up on and get some good cuddles from a new loving family. She also loves her tennis ball and will play fetch then come up to you for some good butt scratches while she wiggles it around for you. She’s such a little sweetheart and we can’t wait to see who will take her home!

6. Moose
Young (11 months) · Male · Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 11 mi from Litchfield

Wave hello to Moose! He is our new handsome, energetic deaf puppy. He is completely deaf so we have been working with him using hand signals which he picks up on very well. You’ll have your hands full with all his puppy energy and zest for life, but he can also be so calm and sweet. He loves to lay out in the grass while you give him all the love and pets, then he’s ready to get back to his adventures. He seems like he would love to play with other dogs and we are hoping to get him in a play group soon. He loves to investigate the woods on his hikes and is always happy to go for a nice walk. Sadie is a sweet lady that loves to meet new people. Since she’s a bit on the bigger side and is still working on her jumping habit she would probably do best with children 12 and up. She might be a little overweight but she doesn’t let it slow her down! She loves to go for her walks and is always ready for an adventure. We think she would make a great couch potato for movie nights and cuddles as well. We haven’t had the chance to do a play group yet but she seems dog selective. 10. Tootsie
Young (6 months) · Female · Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed (short coat) · 11 mi from Litchfield

Tootsie is such a little sweetheart that comes with a condition that just makes her even more special and endearing. Her eyes are slightly deformed (we think it gives her such a sweet face) which results in her having limited vision. She can definitely see to some extent though because she’ll look you in the eye and squint up at you to show you she means no harm! She's a happy little love bug and she doesn’t let her condition slow her down. She’s a little insecure like the rest of her litter but with some love and guidance she’ll learn to be a confident girl. She loves to see her litter mates and she is so happy to be out walking with her people. It’s near impossible not to fall in love with those adorable eyes so come meet her soon before she’s gone!

11. A Sebastien
Young (1 year 5 months) · Male · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie · 14 mi from Litchfield

Sebastien is available for adoption.
He is 18 months old and weighs 10 lbs.
His adoption fee is $900.00.
Hi ! I’m Sebastien I was picked up as a stray by animal control in NJ. There I had two previous adopters. One said I had too much energy and barked too much at his clients. The other had a large pig which they thought would hurt me. It was at that point SAYR pulled from the shelter and transported me to CT. where I’ve been at my foster family for a little over a week.
Read more about A Sebastien
I’m learning a lot and still have more manners to learn: I can be protective of food, and treats. I think I’m figuring it out, I don’t have to worry about getting food regular now. I love treats! Have I mentioned, I have lots of energy? I’m in good shape, very trim and have good teeth.
I love toys, hugs and cuddling. I’m okay with cats, but not gonna lie… when I get bored, I chase her. Foster mom said this is a NO. I’m still learning. I have a foster older brother, another Yorkie. I sometime play very rough, but he corrects me. I can be spicy to new people, but I warm up quick when I realize they won’t hurt me. (He is the sweetest and most playful boy once he feels safe)
Sebastien is staying with Gisele in Waterbury, CT 06710.

Nyx has previously thrived in a busy, lively environment surrounded by kids, other dogs, and even farm goats! She gets along with everyone and absolutely loves being part of a pack. Nyx has not had the opportunity to meet any cats, so it is unknown how she will be with them.Nyx is already crate trained, viewing her crate as a cozy, safe haven. She is almost fully house trained and is working hard on her leash manners every single day. Because she did not always have someone to guide her in the past, she is still learning how to navigate the world on walks, but she is incredibly smart and eager to please. The ideal match for Nyx is a patient, active family who can match her fun puppy energy while providing the secure structure she thrives on. A home with another playful dog to wrestle with would be a fantastic outlet for her, but she would also excel as a solo spotlight queen if her humans have plenty of time to dedicate to her. Because of her rough start in life, Nyx will blossom best with a family that uses gentle, positive reinforcement to build her confidence and guide her big, goofy enthusiasm. If you are looking for a loyal, resilient, and utterly sweet companion to fill your days with laughter and your evenings with deep cuddles, Nyx is ready to start her best chapter yet with you! * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Nyx is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us.If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.

They tend to be large dogs who need to be exercised daily and have a place to burn off energy. Daily short walks (under thirty minutes) will be a good opportunity to work on leash skills as well as socialization skills. It will be a new world to her with all the new sights, smells, sounds, and people along her walks. Please note: She may not be a running companion until at least age one when her growth plate closes.Riley 2, like all pups, will also appreciate free time in a back yard. Keeping her mind busy with activities that provide physical and mental stimulation will prevent boredom and burn up puppy energy.* When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Riley is $500. Adopting a dog in Litchfield
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
