5. Arlo

Young (2 years 4 months) · Male · Carolina Dog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Arlo!

A spirited approximately two-year-old Carolina Dog mix currently in Vista, CA, whose golden tan coat and affectionate personality make this 60-pound sweetheart impossible not to love.

Arlo is a people-loving, playful boy with an incredible enthusiasm for life! Whether he's greeting new friends, enjoying attention, or chasing his favorite toys, his joyful personality shines through. He loves walks, car rides, and playtime, and he's always ready to make someone smile. Despite having no formal obedience training, Arlo already knows "sit" and would enjoy learning more through positive reinforcement.

Read more about Arlo

Arlo is currently recovering from a car accident that caused ligament and tendon ruptures in a rear leg. Thankfully, he has no fractures, and his veterinarians are cautiously optimistic that his hard cast may allow his leg to heal. However, amputation remains a possibility if treatment is unsuccessful. His future family must be prepared for continued veterinary care, an uncertain prognosis, and potentially surgery. Otherwise, Arlo is remarkably healthy, neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

Arlo's affectionate nature is truly special! He adores people, welcomes friendly attention, and has no bite history. He's looking for an active, patient family who can support his recovery before gradually introducing the adventures he loves.

A family with older children or no children would be suitable, since his experience with younger children is limited. Arlo has reportedly become anxious around unfamiliar large dogs following previous attacks, although his reactions have not been independently assessed. His compatibility with other dogs remains unknown and thoughtful introductions are important. His compatibility with cats is also unknown, so a cat-free environment is recommended until assessed.

Arlo will benefit from consistent routines, positive reinforcement training, and patient guidance as he adjusts to family life. His house-training needs should also be assessed.

This lovable boy has so much affection, enthusiasm, and companionship to share. With understanding caregivers, Arlo can look forward to healing, learning, and enjoying life's everyday pleasures. Could your family be the one to help Arlo begin his next joyful chapter? To learn more about adopting Arlo, contact adopt@joyfulpets.com!

13. Moxie

Senior (9 years 3 months) · Male · Bichon Frise / Terrier / Mixed (long coat)

Meet Moxie!

A sweet nine-year-old Bichon Frise/Terrier mix currently in Granite Bay, CA, whose fluffy white coat, playful spirit, and affectionate personality make him a delightful little companion.

Weighing around 13 pounds, Moxie is a charming senior gentleman who knows how to appreciate life's simple pleasures. His favorite activities include leisurely walks, delicious meals, and soaking up all the pets and affection his favorite people can offer. When someone he loves walks through the door, his excitement is absolutely contagious! This little guy has a wonderful way of making everyday reunions feel like special occasions.

Read more about Moxie

Moxie enjoys a comfortable routine with morning and evening walks, regular meals, and plenty of opportunities for companionship. He's also perfectly content relaxing alone for short periods. While he takes his doorbell duties seriously and may announce visitors with a bark, he settles once he recognizes who's arrived.

This clever boy knows sit, stay, and lie down. Moxie has previously shared his space with a feline friend and is comfortable around cats. He's selective about canine companions, and his compatibility with children is unknown.

Moxie is neutered, microchipped, house-trained, and current on vaccinations. He has undergone knee and back surgeries and has a history of joint discomfort, but currently has no mobility concerns. He's carrying some extra weight and follows a prescription weight management diet. Regular grooming, dental chews, and gentle exercise help support his well-being.

Moxie can be protective around food and has occasionally nipped when uncomfortable with a visitor, so a family who respects his boundaries and practices positive reinforcement would be appreciated.

Above all, Moxie needs a loving family who will enjoy walks, playtime, and sharing affection with this endearing little fellow. He has so much personality packed into his small frame! Please note that we are currently accepting adoption applications from families located on the West Coast only. 14. Princess

Adult (4 years 2 months) · Female · Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Princess!

A spirited four-year-old Chihuahua mix currently in San Diego, CA, whose big personality shines through her adorable white coat with golden patches. Weighing just eight pounds, this tiny sweetheart has the confidence of a much larger dog and a heart overflowing with love for her favorite people!

Read more about Princess

Princess takes her royal title seriously! As the self-appointed leader of her canine pack, she enjoys keeping everyone informed about visitors, especially delivery people. She is quick to sound the alarm when someone approaches the door, making her a pint-sized neighborhood watch captain. Although vocal, Princess has no history of biting or snapping. With patience, positive reinforcement, and consistent routines, she can learn to feel more comfortable when visitors arrive.

When she isn't supervising her surroundings, Princess enjoys running, jumping, chasing balls, and playing with soft toys. After an exciting play session, she's equally happy curling up for a relaxing nap. Her favorite place is wherever her special person happens to be!

Princess is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows commands including sit and come. She appreciates predictable feeding and sleeping schedules. Being alone can make her nervous, so a comfortable crate helps keep her settled and away from tempting trash cans.

This affectionate girl gets along with cats and enjoys the company of adults and respectful children, particularly older kids. While she can coexist with other dogs, Princess is selective about her canine companions. She would likely thrive initially as the only dog, with carefully managed introductions if another pup joins her family.

Princess has no known medical conditions, although she experiences some anxiety, and her spay surgery is upcoming. Monthly grooming helps keep her beautiful coat looking lovely. Because she can jump fences, secure outdoor spaces and attentive supervision are important.

Above all, Princess needs a patient, loving family who appreciates her protective spirit, playful energy, and affectionate nature. She'll bring laughter, companionship, and plenty of Chihuahua charm to everyday adventures! Could this tiny queen with a mighty heart be the loving companion you've been waiting to welcome into your family? To learn more about adopting Princess, contact adopt@joyfulpets.com.

15. Pickles

Adult (6 years 6 months) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Boxer / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Pickles, affectionately known as Picky!

A sweet six-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever mix currently in Ellsworth AFB, SD, whose beautiful black coat with white accents matches her wonderfully lovable personality. At 80 pounds, this affectionate girl has a big heart, an even bigger love for her people, and a special talent for turning ordinary moments into cozy memories!

Read more about Pickles

Picky is a devoted companion who believes togetherness makes everything better. Whether she's following you from room to room, curling up beside you for a nap, or patiently hoping for a tasty snack, she's happiest near her favorite humans. She's wonderfully intuitive, often sensing emotions and offering quiet companionship when needed. Her favorite activities include snuggling, relaxing, enjoying car rides, and supervising snack time!

This clever girl knows several commands, including sit, lay, kennel, and outside, with an occasional shake when she's feeling cooperative. She's house-trained, crate-trained, spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. She also handles time alone comfortably, often napping or watching the world through a window.

Picky needs a peaceful, adult-only home with an experienced pet parent who understands canine body language and respects her boundaries. She's protective of her loved ones and may respond defensively to unfamiliar approaches. She has growled at small children and can react when dogs attempt to mount her. She's selective with canine companions, and her compatibility with cats is unknown.

Loud noises, particularly thunderstorms, fireworks, and jet engines, frighten her, although comforting snuggles help. A quieter environment would support her emotional well-being.

Picky previously injured her right hind leg, which still limits jumping and running. She's also carrying extra weight, so gentle activity and thoughtful nutrition would benefit her.

This low-energy sweetheart doesn't need endless adventures. She needs patience, understanding, a comfortable couch, and someone who appreciates unconditional companionship. With her loving nature and fondness for peaceful routines, Picky is ready to share life's quieter joys! Could your heart and couch have room for this snuggly, devoted girl? Cooper is also one smart cookie! With formal obedience training under his belt, he knows an impressive collection of commands, including sit, stay, spin, shake, speak, and even sit up. He's especially motivated by treats and enjoys showing off his talents! His favorite reward, though, is simply spending time near his favorite humans.

This sensitive sweetheart needs patience when meeting unfamiliar people. He may bark, growl, or retreat when visitors arrive, but allowing him space to approach at his own pace helps build trust. Cooper has twice snapped and made contact with unfamiliar people's hands when they reached toward his head, without causing injury. An experienced pet parent who understands canine boundaries and positive reinforcement will help him feel secure.

Cooper would thrive in a calm, adult-only home without young children, where he can enjoy predictable routines and plenty of physical and mental enrichment. He peacefully shares his space with two cats, although his current compatibility with other dogs is unknown.

This lovable boy is neutered, microchipped, house-trained, and current on vaccinations. He's comfortable spending short periods alone and needs regular brushing to keep his beautiful coat looking fabulous!

Cooper's greatest joy is being close to someone he trusts. With understanding, structure, and outdoor adventures, he'll bring loyalty, laughter, and companionship to his next chapter. Ready to give this clever, devoted adventurer a new loving home where he can shine? Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about Cooper and discover whether your next adventure could begin together!

17. Wallace

Puppy (8 months) · Female · Jack Russell Terrier / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Wallace!

A goofy, snuggly nine-month-old Jack Russell Terrier/American Pit Bull Terrier mix currently in San Diego, CA, whose playful spirit and enormous heart shine through her adorable tricolor coat.

Weighing around 55 pounds, Wallace is an adventurous girl who loves hiking, camping, beach outings, and road trips. Whether splashing in the bay or accompanying her favorite person on errands, she's always ready for fun! After an exciting day, this affectionate sweetheart transforms into a professional cuddle buddy, requesting belly rubs and delivering enthusiastic full-body wiggles.

Read more about Wallace

Wallace is completely deaf, but she doesn't let silence slow her down! She's incredibly smart, food-motivated, and eager to learn. Following a two-week positive-reinforcement training program, she understands several hand signals, including sit, stay, down, come, and drop it. She's house-trained, crate-trained, and walks nicely on leash.

This social butterfly absolutely adores other dogs! Although initially shy, Wallace blossoms into a wiggly, playful, and confident companion with patient introductions. She also experiences some separation anxiety and can become anxious when left alone. Having other dogs around has made a tremendous difference in her confidence and comfort, helping her feel more relaxed and secure in unfamiliar situations. She's especially happy when she has a calm, friendly canine companion by her side, making a loving home with another playful, well-adjusted dog a wonderful match for Wallace!

Wallace needs a quiet, adult-only home and an experienced pet parent committed to continued training. She experiences anxiety around unfamiliar people, particularly men, and can react defensively when startled. She has a documented bite history involving unfamiliar men. These reactions are believed to be fear-based, potentially triggered by her deafness, being approached unexpectedly, or feeling vulnerable when someone enters her personal space. Her anxiety and defensive behaviors emerged after moving into a busy apartment environment with frequent unfamiliar visitors, suggesting that a calmer, more predictable setting may help her feel more secure. Careful visitor management, structured introductions, and ongoing positive-reinforcement behavior support are essential to helping Wallace build confidence and feel safe.

Wallace takes Trazodone for anxiety and experiences occasional urinary leakage during sleep, which has improved. She may need additional veterinary follow-up. She's spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her compatibility with cats and children remains unassessed.

With patience, consistency, and understanding, Wallace has so much affection and personality to share. Her future family can look forward to silly antics, joyful adventures, and wonderfully cozy evenings together! Ready to welcome this extraordinary girl into your life? Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about Wallace and discover whether your family could be the loving, supportive match she's been waiting to find!
