1. Dior
Adult · Male · French Bulldog · 3 mi from Falcon Heights

Say hello to Dior, an almost 3-year-old French Bulldog with a big personality packed into 23 pounds of brindle perfection! This silly little guy loves being wherever his people are, following you from room to room, soaking up affection, and making sure you always know what he’s thinking with his signature Frenchie grumbles. He’s a total sweetheart who loves to be held and included in all the daily activities. He does have a preference for having his people around. He isn't a fan of being crated when everyone is home and would much rather be out enjoying their company. He may whine briefly in his crate when he's ready to be done or hears people moving around, but he settles down quickly.
Read more about Dior
He can also let out a few short, fairly mild barks when he hears cars, neighbors, or other noises. He isn't typically a prolonged barker when left alone.Dior would love a home where someone is around more often than not and where he can be part of the family. He would appreciate a family who enjoys a little playtime indoors and a couple of short, leisurely walks each day. Due to his current breathing limitations, walks should be kept short with plenty of breaks.Like many French Bulldogs, Dior needs a little extra attention when it comes to his skin. Regular medicated baths and skin moisturizers will be important to keep him comfortable, and he may need seasonal Apoquel if his dry skin isn't adequately controlled. He will also be on a contract for his nares (nostril) and soft palate surgery. His breathing currently limits his exercise, so his adopter should be prepared to continue being mindful of his activity and comfort.Dior is a goofy, affectionate, slightly grumbly little companion who just wants to be loved and included. He has so much personality, so much sweetness, and so much love to give. If you're looking for a loyal little shadow who will make you laugh, keep you company, and happily accept all the cuddles you have to offer, Dior might just be your guy!If you are interested in Dior, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. 2. Eddie Munster
Young · Male · Wirehaired Fox Terrier · 3 mi from Falcon Heights

Meet Eddie Munster, a little dog with a big personality, an adorable underbite, and a heart that just needs a little time to feel safe! At 9 months old and 16 pounds, this tan Wirehaired Terrier is a sweet, playful little guy who loves snuggling with his people, playing with other dogs, and discovering all the fun things life has to offer.Eddie was quite nervous when he first arrived in foster care, but he's making progress every day. He enjoys toys, games of chase with other dogs, and exploring on walks. Crunchy fall leaves are a particular favorite, and he loves plowing through them! He's also a champion blanket snuggler.
Read more about Eddie Munster
Rather than lying on top of his blankets, he'll bunch them up and curl around them like he's spooning a friend.Eddie gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy a canine companion who likes to play without being too intense. He's also done well around his foster family's young granddaughters, but because he can be skittish, a home with children 13 and older is recommended. His experience with cats is limited, so that's still an unknown.Eddie does need a little extra patience and understanding when it comes to handling. When he was found, he was severely matted, including around his neck and face, and needed to be sedated and shaved to safely remove the mats. While we don't know exactly what he experienced before coming into rescue, he is now very uncomfortable with having a collar, harness, or leash put on or taken off. When he feels frightened or overwhelmed during this process, he may use his mouth to express his discomfort. His foster family is working with a trainer to help him feel more comfortable with handling, and he's making progress. He currently walks successfully using a slip lead, but his future family will need to be patient and committed to continuing his training with gentle, positive reinforcement. Building trust and helping Eddie feel safe will be an important part of his journey.Eddie is also still learning his potty-training skills and making progress, especially with frequent outdoor breaks. He settles into his crate fairly quickly once he's inside, although he isn't a fan of going in. He's an energetic pup who enjoys a good walk and plenty of playtime, and a securely fenced yard is required. Eddie is a talented escape artist who can dart through an open door in a flash, so careful management is important.Despite his rough start, Eddie is a very loving little dog who wants to cuddle, play, and be part of a family. He'll need an adopter who understands that building trust takes time and who is willing to help him continue gaining confidence at his own pace. The right patient, committed home will make all the difference for this special little guy!If you are interested in Eddie, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Cats are an unknown, although her foster family suspects she'd be curious and playful. At home, Agatha has a medium-low energy level, with a daily walk and some playtime keeping her happy. She's still working on leash manners and potty training, but she's making progress! She keeps her crate clean and dry overnight and settles in nicely once she's inside, although she may need a little encouragement at bedtime.Agatha has a few adorable quirks, too. If she's in her puppy pen and feels like she's missing out on something, she'll climb up and rest her front paws on top, peeking over the edge with the most pitiful, longing expression. And with her short legs, broad chest, and muscular build, her little crouching walk has been compared to something straight out of The Nightmare Before Christmas!Agatha is being treated for a skin infection that is clearing up nicely, and her small patches of missing fur are expected to grow back. She is scheduled to be spayed on November 7.This little pocket pittie is an absolute sweetheart who wants nothing more than to be part of the fun, stay close to her people, and receive all the cuddles she can get. Read more about Franklin
Franklin is still working on impulse control and manners, so he will benefit from someone who can provide consistent guidance, routine, and positive reinforcement to help him become the best version of himself.Franklin loves having a canine companion! A confident, balanced, even-tempered resident dog would be a wonderful addition to his new home, as he enjoys having a playmate who can also help him learn to relax. He even prefers his crate to be next to his dog friend. However, a resident dog is preferred rather than required, and Franklin may do well as the only dog with the right support and structure. His compatibility with cats is unknown.Franklin's biggest challenge is being alone. He has separation anxiety and takes medication to help manage it. When left alone, he may bark incessantly, particularly if he does not have something appropriate to chew. He needs an adopter who understands separation anxiety and is prepared to continue working with him on it. A home without shared walls is required because of his barking when left alone.Franklin is a big, boisterous boy who can be a little too enthusiastic, so he needs a home with no children under 13. She enjoys playful outings with canine friends but prefers not to roughhouse, and rowdy, reactive, or overly enthusiastic dogs can make her feel nervous. She has also lived with cats in foster homes and reportedly ignores them, making her a potential fit for a home with feline friends. At home, Delilah is quiet, house-trained, and wonderfully content to spend an evening lounging on the couch with her people. She loves belly rubs, affection, and kibble, and she’s recently started discovering the fun of toys! She’s still learning how to play and beginning to get the hang of it. She may not climb into your lap, but she will happily rest her head or a paw against you to stay close. Just be prepared to share the couch, because Delilah is perfectly capable of claiming the whole thing!Delilah does have some separation anxiety and takes medication to help manage it. She may get into a little mischief while you're away, such as relocating your shoes, but she does not need to be glued to your side. She simply likes knowing someone is home and can eventually settle down for a nap when left alone. She is not crate-trained and is uncomfortable with being crated, so her future family should be prepared to accommodate her without relying on a crate. And one more thing about this princess: Delilah is not a fan of wet paws! A little drizzle may earn you a very judgmental look as she wonders why anyone would expect her to venture outside in such conditions. She will happily wait for better weather if given the choice.Delilah would love a home where she can enjoy plenty of companionship, gentle affection, and a relaxed daily routine. A family with multiple people would be especially nice, and another calm, compatible dog could be a bonus, though she doesn't need a canine companion to be happy. 9. Chase
Young · Male · German Shepherd Dog / Terrier / Mixed · 3 mi from Falcon Heights

If you’re looking for a handsome German Shepherd mix with a playful spirit, a love for adventure, and a serious appreciation for squirrels, Chase might be your guy! At approximately 1 year old and around 65 pounds, Chase is an energetic young pup who is excited to experience everything the world has to offer.Chase can be a little shy when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly and has had no trouble making himself comfortable in his foster home. Once he settles in, he is a sweet and affectionate boy who enjoys cuddling with his people. He is generally quiet, although he will bark occasionally, and he has done well being left alone without any issues.Outside is where Chase really comes alive! He loves exploring, playing fetch, playing keep-away in the yard, and occasionally enjoying a good game of tug with a stuffed toy.
Read more about Chase
He especially loves chasing squirrels, and one of his funniest habits is jumping up a tree in pursuit of one! Chase has medium to high energy and does well with a few shorter walks each day along with playtime in the yard. Because he is an active working breed, Chase will need a secure fenced yard where he can safely get additional exercise. He has not tried to escape his foster's fence, but he does like to jump, so a taller fence would be preferred.Chase is house-trained and does a nice job settling down in the home, although he will happily help himself to the trash if it is left unattended. He is not currently crate-trained, and his foster family has been working on helping him become more comfortable with a crate. Chase is still learning his manners and can be a bit of a naughty youngster. He may jump up or grab at clothing when he gets excited, but he is eager to learn and responds well to patient, consistent guidance.Chase has not yet been introduced to other dogs, so we do not know how he would do living with one. When he sees dogs while out on walks, he gets very excited and may bark, pull, jump, or whine. His behavior appears more playful and enthusiastic than aggressive or hostile, but he will need appropriate introductions and continued work on his leash manners before sharing a home with another dog.Chase has also never lived with a cat. He has a high prey drive and becomes extremely interested when he spots cats outside, pulling heavily toward them, so a home without cats may be the best fit. His foster family cannot predict how he would respond to a resident cat.Chase has had limited experience with children. He has been petted by kids while out on walks and did well, although his initial shyness meant he was not particularly interested in lingering. Because he is an excitable young dog who is still learning his manners, any interactions with children should be supervised.Chase is a fun-loving, affectionate young dog who is ready to keep learning and growing with a patient family. If you can provide him with plenty of appropriate outlets for his energy, a secure fenced yard, and lots of positive guidance, Chase would love to show you what a wonderful companion he can become! If you are interested in Chase, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. 12. Pooh Bear
Young · Female · Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed · 3 mi from Falcon Heights

If you’re looking for a best friend who wants to be involved in absolutely everything you do, Winnie might just be your girl! Pooh Bear, affectionately called Winnie, is a 1-year-old, 45-pound Lab mix with a BIG personality and an even bigger heart. She is goofy, playful, incredibly affectionate, and truly just loves being loved.Winnie’s favorite place in the world is wherever her people are. She is an expert snuggler, professional morning kiss giver, and would happily spend an entire evening curled up beside you on the couch. She loves being part of whatever her humans are doing and will happily follow you around the house just to make sure she doesn’t miss anything.

And when she wakes up in the morning, she is especially excited to see her people and is more than happy to cover them in kisses! But don’t let her cuddly side fool you. This girl LOVES to play! Give her a stick, a stuffy, a bully stick, or a doggy friend and she is ready for a good time. Winnie loves romping around with her foster family’s resident dog, playing outside, going for walks, and proudly carrying around whatever treasure she finds in the yard. She even loves a good game of chase, especially when she has a stick she absolutely refuses to give you!Winnie does great with other dogs and would love having a playful canine buddy. She can be a little enthusiastic when meeting new friends, and personal space is still a work in progress, so her jumping and excitement may be a lot for some dogs at first. Once everyone settles in, though, she absolutely loves having a friend to play with. She has also been working hard on her house training and is doing great! With a consistent routine, accidents have become very few and far between, although she may still have an occasional overnight accident as she continues to learn. Winnie sleeps wonderfully in her crate overnight and settles right in for bedtime. Her biggest work in progress is being home alone. Winnie has separation anxiety and can bark continuously when her people leave, so she would thrive in a home where someone is around often, such as a work-from-home household. She would also do best with someone who has the time and patience to continue helping her learn that being alone is okay. Because of her barking when left alone, apartment or shared-wall living would probably not be the best fit for her.And cats? Winnie actually LOVES a good kitty snuggle and has lived with a cat. She has been known to cuddle up with and even groom her feline friends. However, she can occasionally become reactive or possessive of a comfy spot when she’s settled in, so a cat-free home may be the easiest fit. A home with cats could potentially work with humans who are comfortable managing those moments and continuing to help Winnie learn about sharing her space.More than anything, Winnie is a ridiculously sweet, people-oriented girl who loves her humans with her whole heart. She’ll make you laugh, follow you around the house, convince you to chase her for the stick she absolutely refuses to give you, cover you in morning kisses, and then curl up beside you like she hasn’t seen you in three years.Winnie is a young pup who is still learning, but she has SO much love to give. She wants to be included, loved, and part of the family. In return, she promises cuddles, goofy games, playful adventures, endless kisses, and a whole lot of love. Whoever gets to call Winnie theirs is getting one seriously special girl.If you are interested in Pooh Bear, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. She is very food motivated, loves to learn, and responds wonderfully to positive reinforcement. Her trainers at the board and train facility are committed to setting her up for success and are happy to provide continued support to help her future adopter as she transitions into her new home and continues building these skills.Yumi has a playful, goofy side and loves games and training with her people, but she's also learning that relaxing is just as rewarding as playtime. Because of her hind leg complications, high impact activities like jumping, rough play, or repeated ball chasing should be limited. She does best with sniff-heavy walks, leisurely strolls, food puzzles, enrichment toys, and training games that keep both her mind and body active. She has also adjusted well to walking with a Gentle Leader.Yumi was friendly with other dogs earlier in her life but recently had some challenges with dogs in a previous foster home, possibly related to discomfort from her hind leg pain. She will do best with slow, thoughtful introductions to other dogs and a calm, structured environment. She cannot live in a home with cats.Yumi is looking for a patient family committed to continuing her positive reinforcement training while providing consistency, daily enrichment, and lots of love. She has so much affection to give and is working hard to become the very best version of herself. With the right guidance, Yumi will be an incredibly loyal, loving, and rewarding companion. If you are interested in Yumi, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $250. She’s an easy companion, quiet, calm, and happiest curled up beside you or tucked under a cozy blanket. Once she trusts you, her affection is endless.Tracey walks well on a leash with a couple of walks per day, and she’s a champion sniffer! She’s not high-energy, but she enjoys squeaky toys, running around the backyard and small games of catching a tennis ball. Tracey is on a weight reducing diet and is slowly losing weight. She is strong, healthy and has no known medical concerns or needs at this time.Tracey is interested in other dogs and may be happy with a low-energy canine sibling, but she cannot live with cats. Sudden movements can startle her, so she’s looking for a calm, quiet home where she can feel safe. Because of this, her foster family also believes that she cannot live with young children in case there is any rough play or loud noise.Tracey’s dream home is one filled with love, routine, and companionship. She’s not just looking for an owner, she’s looking for her person, someone who will be her safe place, her advocate, and her forever family. If you’re ready for a deeply devoted, affectionate companion who will love you with her whole heart, Tracey is waiting to meet you.If you are interested in Tracey, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Meet Elsie, a beautiful yellow Lab mix with a heart as big as her personality. At approximately 4 years old and 50 pounds, Elsie is looking for an active family that will appreciate her energetic, playful nature and zest for life.Elsie has plenty of unique quirks that make her unforgettable. When she's excited, she hops around the yard like a bunny, and when it comes to tennis balls, she prefers pouncing on them rather than simply chasing them. Car rides are one of her favorite activities, and she's always ready to hop in and go on an adventure. She also takes her neighborhood security responsibilities seriously, keeping a watchful eye out for squirrels, rabbits, and cats. She loves other dogs and is always eager to play.

However, due to her high prey drive, Elsie cannot live with cats or small dogs. Any canine companions should be calm, easygoing dogs who can tolerate her enthusiastic personality. While she enjoys having dog friends, she prefers not to share her toys, so toy management during playtime is recommended.Elsie is a medium-energy dog who thrives on walks, outdoor adventures, and having room to run. She requires a securely fenced yard with a 6-foot rabbit-proof fence, as she's athletic enough to clear shorter fences when motivated. When she's not exploring outside, she enjoys spending time with her people and being involved in family activities. She is crate trained but has mastered the art of escaping standard kennels, so she will need a sturdy "no-break" kennel when left alone. Although the crate isn't her favorite place, she settles down quickly once inside. Elsie is approximately 85% potty trained and continues to make progress. She occasionally has accidents when she needs to go outside, so she'll benefit from a patient family willing to continue her training. Fortunately, she is highly food motivated, eager to learn, and already making great progress with commands such as "heel" and "stay."Elsie adores people and loves being part of the action, especially when kids are involved. She has a happy, playful spirit and is always ready for fun. Like many enthusiastic dogs, she can get a little excited during play, so a family that will continue encouraging her good manners will help her become the very best companion. With her affectionate heart, eager-to-please personality, and joyful energy, Elsie is sure to bring endless love and laughter to her forever home. The perfect home for Elsie will be active, committed to providing both physical exercise and mental stimulation, and willing to continue her training. In return, she'll offer endless loyalty, affection, entertainment, and plenty of laughs with her bunny hops and goofy personality.Sweet, affectionate, playful, and full of character, Elsie is ready to find a forever family of her own. Meet Artie, a handsome 2-year-old American Staffordshire mix with a big heart and an even bigger desire to learn. At 60 pounds, he's the perfect medium-sized companion who is discovering just how wonderful life can be.Artie is the kind of dog who thrives with routine, encouragement, and tasty treats. He's incredibly food motivated, already knows "sit" and "shake," and is eagerly learning new skills every day. Instead of marathon walks, he'd much rather spend time solving a food puzzle, working on a Kong, or happily chewing on a Nylabone. Give him an oversized stick in the yard and he'll proudly parade it around before settling in for a good chew. One of Artie's sweetest qualities is how much he loves people.

He happily greets visitors and enjoys meeting new friends on walks. Once he feels comfortable, his affectionate side shines through, complete with belly rub requests and a habit of resting his chin on his canine friend's back like the world's cutest pillow.Artie came into rescue without much early socialization, so he's still figuring out how to be a dog. He's curious about other dogs and has been making wonderful progress with his social skills. Recently, he had a play date with two dogs and absolutely rocked it. They spent their time wrestling, running, and playing their hearts out, and Artie loved every second of it. Given his high energy and love of physical play, we really think Artie would thrive with a dog of similar size and energy who enjoys wrestling and playing with him. He's learning the best way to invite other dogs to play, and slow introductions and patient guidance continue to help him build confidence. He has also done well living with a cat, although his enthusiastic curiosity sometimes earns him a playful swat. When he's excited and ready to play, Artie can be very vocal with his canine and feline friends. Because of his enthusiastic "playtime announcements," he'll be happiest in a home without shared walls where he can express himself without worrying about nearby neighbors. In the home, Artie is crate trained and making wonderful progress with potty training. He uses potty pads if available and is settling into a reliable routine. He enjoys one or two short walks each day along with time to explore the yard, and he appreciates a calm, predictable environment where he can relax and continue learning.Artie is a bit like a puppy in an adult dog's body. Everything is new, exciting, and worth investigating. Watching him grow in confidence and discover the world has been incredibly rewarding, and his future family will have the joy of seeing that journey continue. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will reward your patience with endless affection, plenty of laughs, and the satisfaction of watching a wonderful dog blossom, Artie may be the perfect match. If you are interested in Artie, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Adult · Male · German Shepherd Dog / Terrier / Mixed · 3 mi from Falcon Heights

Pilot is a handsome 2-year-old Shepherd mix weighing in at about 80 pounds of love, loyalty, and personality. This big guy may look tough, but with his people, he's an affectionate goofball who doesn't seem to realize just how large he is. Whether he's tossing his toys in the air, carrying sticks around the yard like prized treasures, or greeting his favorite humans with happy "roo-roo" noises and full-body wiggles, Pilot has a way of making everyone smile.Pilot is fully house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside by whining or heading to the door. He sleeps through the night without issue and does well when left in his own room while his family is away.
Read more about Pilot
While crates aren't a good fit for him due to anxiety, he has proven to be respectful and non-destructive when given a comfortable space of his own. This smart boy enjoys daily walks, playing fetch, running around the yard, snuggling with his people, and earning tasty treats. He has a moderate energy level and would thrive with an adopter who can provide regular exercise and enrichment. A securely fenced yard is ideal so he can safely stretch his legs and explore.Pilot has been working with an experienced trainer and behaviorist who is very familiar with his breed mix, and they have wonderful things to say about him. Since beginning training, Pilot has made impressive progress and continues to build his confidence and skills. He is a fast learner who responds well to clear guidance, loves to work, and is highly motivated by tasty treats. His training will continue while he is in foster care to help set him up for long-term success. To help make the transition as smooth as possible, Pilot's adoption also includes an additional in-home training session with his trainer. This gives his new family the opportunity to learn what works best for Pilot, get everyone on the same page, and address any questions or concerns as he settles into his forever home.Pilot currently lives successfully with two large-breed dogs. He can be selective of dogs that he is accepting of, so introductions to new dogs should be done slowly, intentionally, and with great care. He has also lived with cats and can coexist peacefully once he gets to know them. New cats are very interesting to him, but he responds appropriately to their boundaries and corrections.Pilot's story has shaped who he is today. He came into rescue as a young puppy from an abandonment case and has experienced multiple home transitions throughout his life. Because of this, he forms deep bonds with his people and looks to them for comfort and security. What Pilot wants most is a stable, committed family where he can finally feel at home forever.Potential adopters should know that Pilot is very protective of his home and yard. He has a bite history involving both dogs and humans, though his interactions with people have been warning bites that did not break skin. He is not a dog who will welcome unfamiliar visitors into his space right away, and he will need experienced adopters who understand management, structure, and proper introductions. For this reason, we recommend a home with adults or older teens and adopters who are willing to continue helping Pilot build confidence and maintain clear boundaries. In return, Pilot offers unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and the kind of companionship that only comes from a dog who truly loves his people. If you're looking for a devoted best friend and have the experience and commitment to help him succeed, Pilot may be the perfect addition to your family. If you are interested in Pilot, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. 18. Spy
2 Years 11 Months · Male · Unknown breed · 4 mi from Falcon Heights

My foster family reports that I am very mindful, very demure. I love to play with toys but I am very gentle about it. I've learned very quickly how to ask how to go outside/inside and I am working on mastering stairs (reports are that I am a very fast learner and am picking up how to do stairs quickly). I am good in my kennel as well. Some of my favorite things are car rides, a fun romp in the yard, and laying blissfully in a sunbeam. I am respectful of the resident cats (they actually scare me a little bit) and I don't have a super high prey drive. I thoroughly enjoy a good walk and have even jogged a bit with my foster family, who reports I am excellent on leash (I do request plenty of sniff stops on my adventures). I think I "spy" my future family- could that be you?
19. Candi
Adult (3 years 10 months) · Female · Greyhound · 4 mi from Falcon Heights

Calling anyone with a sweet tooth! True to my name, my foster family reports that I am a very sweet girl who loves her naps (I take my retirement very seriously). Slippery floors still make me nervous, and I am still a little unsure about walks (but I am still learning the ropes). Long walks/hikes are probably not for me- I would prefer to spend my days inside snoozing on a comfy dog bed or in my kennel. In fact, I will do my business outside very quickly so I can get back into bed! I am excitedly cautious about meeting new people, but my foster family reports that overall I seem to do well with people, other dogs, and can be redirected away from cats/small animals. Do you need a little "Candi" in your life?

20. Beretta
Adult (3 years 10 months) · Female · Greyhound · 4 mi from Falcon Heights

Beretta's the name, and loving people and walks is the game! My foster family reports that I am a very sweet and friendly girl. I am always super excited when I get a chance to meet new new people and new dogs. I enjoy going on a good walk where I can sniff all of the things. I would love to chase small furry animals on walks, so a home without cats or small animals would be best. I am still working on learning how to go up long flights of stairs and being left alone in my kennel, but I do enjoy relaxing in my kennel when people are home during the day. I just love people and want to be with them as much as possible! If you're looking for a velcro dog, I'm your girl!

Adopting a dog in Falcon Heights
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
