1. Spy
2 Years 11 Months · Male · Unknown breed · 3 mi from Lauderdale

My foster family reports that I am very mindful, very demure. I love to play with toys but I am very gentle about it. I've learned very quickly how to ask how to go outside/inside and I am working on mastering stairs (reports are that I am a very fast learner and am picking up how to do stairs quickly). I am good in my kennel as well. Some of my favorite things are car rides, a fun romp in the yard, and laying blissfully in a sunbeam. I am respectful of the resident cats (they actually scare me a little bit) and I don't have a super high prey drive. I thoroughly enjoy a good walk and have even jogged a bit with my foster family, who reports I am excellent on leash (I do request plenty of sniff stops on my adventures). I think I "spy" my future family- could that be you?
2. Candi
Adult (3 years 10 months) · Female · Greyhound · 3 mi from Lauderdale

Calling anyone with a sweet tooth! True to my name, my foster family reports that I am a very sweet girl who loves her naps (I take my retirement very seriously). Slippery floors still make me nervous, and I am still a little unsure about walks (but I am still learning the ropes). Long walks/hikes are probably not for me- I would prefer to spend my days inside snoozing on a comfy dog bed or in my kennel. In fact, I will do my business outside very quickly so I can get back into bed! I am excitedly cautious about meeting new people, but my foster family reports that overall I seem to do well with people, other dogs, and can be redirected away from cats/small animals. Do you need a little "Candi" in your life?

3. Beretta
Adult (3 years 10 months) · Female · Greyhound · 3 mi from Lauderdale

Beretta's the name, and loving people and walks is the game! My foster family reports that I am a very sweet and friendly girl. I am always super excited when I get a chance to meet new new people and new dogs. I enjoy going on a good walk where I can sniff all of the things. I would love to chase small furry animals on walks, so a home without cats or small animals would be best. I am still working on learning how to go up long flights of stairs and being left alone in my kennel, but I do enjoy relaxing in my kennel when people are home during the day. I just love people and want to be with them as much as possible! If you're looking for a velcro dog, I'm your girl!
- Good with cats
4. Luli
Adult (3 years 1 month) · Female · Greyhound · 3 mi from Lauderdale

Hi, I'm Luli! My foster family reports that I am a very sweet, quiet girl who enjoys a good backyard play session with my canine foster siblings. I tend to follow the humans around the house to keep an eye on them. I adore attention, and will make it easy for you to pet me by laying my head on you. I am a little hesitant with slippery floors and prefer to have a rug or carpet under my feet, but my foster family is working on this with me. I don't have a super high prey drive- I like to look at the small creatures, but not lunge. I currently live with two cats that I do very well with, and I enjoy resting in my kennel. My foster family reports that I do very well on leash and would love to go on long walks. Will you be my walking buddy?

5. Chrome
Adult (1 year 10 months) · Female · Greyhound · 3 mi from Lauderdale

Hi, I’m Chrome! I am a little bit shy, and sometimes wary of new experiences and people, but I will (eventually) (probably) warm up if you give me time. I DO NOT like to be crated, and prefer to roam freely–prefereably with a buddy to keep me company. Sometimes, if I feel lonely I cry a little bit, but whomst among us hasn’t done that? I am pretty good at walking on a leash, and in fact prefer to do my business on a leash. Poop in a yard? Ew, gross! No thank you. I am interested, perhaps a little TOO interested, in watching bunnies and squirrels, and also cats. They’re all just so fluffy and fascinating and move in really captivating ways! Children on the other hand??? They are confusing and I do not know what I think about them. Gownups are ok. I like food and toys and napping and following my people from room to room. Do you think I’d be a great addition to your home?
6. Sabbath
Adult (8 years 7 months) · Female · Greyhound · 3 mi from Lauderdale

Hi, I’m Sabbath! I love to snuggle with my foster brother, even if we ran into each other that one time when we were chasing a squirrel in the yard. (I love to chase squirrels!) I also love to play with toys, watch my food being prepared, beg for attention from the humans, and run around in the yard. I have been told that I am a messy drinker, which is a rude thing to say to a sophisticated older lady. I like to meet people and make friends, and I love to explore the neighborhood! I prefer to keep my people in my direct line of sight at all times, but if they leave, I will greet them very enthusiastically when they return. I like an early breakfast, but am learning to adjust my schedule. I am also working on my leash manners, but mostly I just want to be inside enjoying the sweet sweet AC. Do you think I’d be a great addition to your home?

7. Xander
Adult (3 years 2 months) · Male · Doberman Pinscher (short coat) · 4 mi from Lauderdale

❤️ Meet Xander — A Heart That Never Gave Up
Some dogs come into rescue needing a second chance. Others remind us why second chances matter so much.
Meet Xander.
Xander came into Doberman Rescue Minnesota about five months ago after being rescued from a heartbreaking situation of cruelty and neglect in Texas. We can only imagine what this boy endured before his life changed, but what we do know is that he has shown us something pretty extraordinary.
Xander never lost his ability to trust.
Read more about Xander
With time, patience, good food, kindness, and love, this handsome boy has slowly come out of his shell. He has gained healthy weight, completed his heartworm treatment, and is looking better than ever. But his greatest transformation isn't what you see on the outside. It's the happy, confident, loving dog emerging on the inside.
And what a dog he is!
The Xander Rundown
Xander is an exceptional boy who is proving that his past does not define his future.
Dog Friendly: Gets along wonderfully with both male and female dogs in his foster home.
Kid Friendly: Has been great with children.
People Lover: Enjoys human companionship and has a wonderfully trusting nature.
Smart Cookie: His foster is a professional dog trainer, and Xander is learning his basic commands.
Leash Trained: Ready to enjoy walks with his people.
Kennel Trained: Comfortable in his kennel.
House-Trained: Knows his indoor manners.
Heartworm Treatment Completed: He's finished this important part of his recovery and is moving forward!
❤️ A Note About His Neuter
Xander is not yet neutered. Based on veterinary recommendations, we need to wait approximately 6–12 months following completion of heartworm treatment before proceeding.
This is an important part of allowing his body to fully recover, and his future family will need to work with the rescue and veterinary team regarding timing.
What Xander Is Looking For
After everything he's been through, Xander deserves a home where he will never again have to wonder where his next meal is coming from, whether someone will be kind to him, or if he is safe.
He would love a family who will continue building on his training, give him opportunities to learn, and include him in everyday life.
He has shown us that he can live happily with other dogs, enjoy children, and form trusting relationships with people.
Most of all, he deserves consistency, security, and unconditional love.
The Beautiful Thing About Xander
It's hard not to get emotional when you think about where Xander started and where he is today.
A dog who experienced cruelty and neglect should have every reason to be afraid of the world. Yet here he is, offering affection, trusting the people around him, learning new things, and embracing the kindness he receives.
His body has healed. His weight is healthy. His eyes are brighter. His personality is shining through.
And somehow, through everything, his heart remains enormous.
Dogs have a remarkable ability to forgive, to trust, and to love again. Xander is a beautiful example of that resilience.
He doesn't need someone to rescue him anymore. He needs someone to love him for the rest of his life.
We know his forever family is out there. And when they find each other, we hope they understand just how special this boy truly is.
Xander, your hardest days are behind you. Your best days are still ahead. ❤️

9. Prince
Adult (5 years 3 months) · Male · Doberman Pinscher (short coat) · 4 mi from Lauderdale

Meet Prince — A Smart Boy With a Heart of Gold!
Looking for a loyal companion who wants to be your shadow, adventure buddy, and personal snuggle partner? Meet Prince!
This handsome boy is full of personality, intelligence, and affection. He's happiest when he's with his person and would love nothing more than to be included in whatever you're doing. Whether you're heading out for an adventure or settling in for a quiet evening, Prince is ready to be right there with you.
And don't let his royal name fool you—Prince is a hardworking guy who believes in earning his rewards!
The Prince Personality
Read more about Prince
People Focused: He loves being with his person and tends to stay close, even when he has a whole fenced yard to explore.
Dog Friendly: He's enjoyed the company of other dogs and loves a good playmate. He has done well with a medium-sized female, although he has shown some resource guarding of his person in certain situations.
Cat Friendly: He gets along with cats, although he can get a little overexcited because he'd really like them to play with him!
Good With Animals: He has walked past flocks of geese with no issues other than stopping for a look.
Food Motivated: Training treats are the way to this boy's heart!
Playful & Active: He enjoys playing with dogs and even going for sprints alongside a bike with appropriate safety precautions.
A Good Housemate: He's respectful of household belongings and generally chews only on things he's been given.
This Boy Has Brains!
Prince is already familiar with several commands:
Sit
Down
Stay
Heel
Crate
He also has some pretty impressive bonus skills! He's learned fun tasks such as tucking under someone's legs while seated, providing deep-pressure contact, and working with cortisol samples for anxiety-related alerts.
He's a smart guy who enjoys having a job, but remember: Prince doesn't work for free! Treats are definitely part of his compensation package.
He's crate trained, house-trained, and sleeps beautifully in his kennel. He may whine briefly when first crated but settles quickly.
He's also a good sport for nail trims and even tolerates an electric Dremel when treats are involved. Baths? Well, let's just say those aren't his favorite spa treatment!
What Prince Needs in His Forever Home
Prince will do best with someone who understands dogs, appreciates training, and is willing to continue building on the skills he already has.
A few important things for his future family:
He needs individual introductions to anyone entering the home. Without a proper introduction, he may become protective of his space and people. Small children not recommended, only older teens and up would be best suited for him.
He has done well with other dogs but may guard his person in certain situations. A well-socialized, respectful canine companion could be a wonderful match with thoughtful introductions and management.
He can become overexcited during high-energy activities and may nip when running alongside a bike. His foster recommends using his muzzle for these outings.
Continued leash training and good handling skills are important.
A secure physical fence is recommended. His foster has not experienced jumping or digging, but supervision is still important.
Prince's foster recommends using a crate or separated area of the vehicle for car rides. He can bolt when car doors open, so careful door management and a reliable sit-and-stay routine are essential.
❤️ Why Prince?
Because this boy has so much to offer!
He's clever, affectionate, eager to learn, and happiest when he's part of someone's world. He can be your training partner, your adventure buddy, your couch companion, and the dog who follows you from room to room just because being near you is where he wants to be.
Prince needs a family willing to understand his boundaries, continue his education, and appreciate the incredible connection that comes with a dog who truly wants to work with his person.

10. Dior
Adult · Male · French Bulldog · 5 mi from Lauderdale

Say hello to Dior, an almost 3-year-old French Bulldog with a big personality packed into 23 pounds of brindle perfection! This silly little guy loves being wherever his people are, following you from room to room, soaking up affection, and making sure you always know what he’s thinking with his signature Frenchie grumbles. He’s a total sweetheart who loves to be held and included in all the daily activities. He does have a preference for having his people around. He isn't a fan of being crated when everyone is home and would much rather be out enjoying their company. He may whine briefly in his crate when he's ready to be done or hears people moving around, but he settles down quickly.
Read more about Dior
He can also let out a few short, fairly mild barks when he hears cars, neighbors, or other noises. He isn't typically a prolonged barker when left alone.Dior would love a home where someone is around more often than not and where he can be part of the family. He would appreciate a family who enjoys a little playtime indoors and a couple of short, leisurely walks each day. Due to his current breathing limitations, walks should be kept short with plenty of breaks.Like many French Bulldogs, Dior needs a little extra attention when it comes to his skin. Regular medicated baths and skin moisturizers will be important to keep him comfortable, and he may need seasonal Apoquel if his dry skin isn't adequately controlled. He will also be on a contract for his nares (nostril) and soft palate surgery. His breathing currently limits his exercise, so his adopter should be prepared to continue being mindful of his activity and comfort.Dior is a goofy, affectionate, slightly grumbly little companion who just wants to be loved and included. He has so much personality, so much sweetness, and so much love to give. If you're looking for a loyal little shadow who will make you laugh, keep you company, and happily accept all the cuddles you have to offer, Dior might just be your guy!If you are interested in Dior, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. 11. Eddie Munster
Young · Male · Wirehaired Fox Terrier · 5 mi from Lauderdale

Meet Eddie Munster, a little dog with a big personality, an adorable underbite, and a heart that just needs a little time to feel safe! At 9 months old and 16 pounds, this tan Wirehaired Terrier is a sweet, playful little guy who loves snuggling with his people, playing with other dogs, and discovering all the fun things life has to offer.Eddie was quite nervous when he first arrived in foster care, but he's making progress every day. He enjoys toys, games of chase with other dogs, and exploring on walks. Crunchy fall leaves are a particular favorite, and he loves plowing through them! He's also a champion blanket snuggler.
Read more about Eddie Munster
Rather than lying on top of his blankets, he'll bunch them up and curl around them like he's spooning a friend.Eddie gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy a canine companion who likes to play without being too intense. He's also done well around his foster family's young granddaughters, but because he can be skittish, a home with children 13 and older is recommended. His experience with cats is limited, so that's still an unknown.Eddie does need a little extra patience and understanding when it comes to handling. When he was found, he was severely matted, including around his neck and face, and needed to be sedated and shaved to safely remove the mats. While we don't know exactly what he experienced before coming into rescue, he is now very uncomfortable with having a collar, harness, or leash put on or taken off. When he feels frightened or overwhelmed during this process, he may use his mouth to express his discomfort. His foster family is working with a trainer to help him feel more comfortable with handling, and he's making progress. He currently walks successfully using a slip lead, but his future family will need to be patient and committed to continuing his training with gentle, positive reinforcement. Building trust and helping Eddie feel safe will be an important part of his journey.Eddie is also still learning his potty-training skills and making progress, especially with frequent outdoor breaks. He settles into his crate fairly quickly once he's inside, although he isn't a fan of going in. He's an energetic pup who enjoys a good walk and plenty of playtime, and a securely fenced yard is required. Eddie is a talented escape artist who can dart through an open door in a flash, so careful management is important.Despite his rough start, Eddie is a very loving little dog who wants to cuddle, play, and be part of a family. He'll need an adopter who understands that building trust takes time and who is willing to help him continue gaining confidence at his own pace. The right patient, committed home will make all the difference for this special little guy!If you are interested in Eddie, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Meet Agatha Christie, the adorable pocket pittie with a big personality and an even bigger love for cuddles! If there's a lap available, Aggie is happy to claim it!Agatha loves toys, playing with other dogs, and getting attention from just about everyone. She's been wonderful with her foster family's 3- and 7-year-old granddaughters, enjoying cuddles and games of tug-of-war. She also gets along well with other dogs, although her wrestling style can be pretty enthusiastic! A canine companion who enjoys a good play session would be a bonus.

Cats are an unknown, although her foster family suspects she'd be curious and playful. At home, Agatha has a medium-low energy level, with a daily walk and some playtime keeping her happy. She's still working on leash manners and potty training, but she's making progress! She keeps her crate clean and dry overnight and settles in nicely once she's inside, although she may need a little encouragement at bedtime.Agatha has a few adorable quirks, too. If she's in her puppy pen and feels like she's missing out on something, she'll climb up and rest her front paws on top, peeking over the edge with the most pitiful, longing expression. And with her short legs, broad chest, and muscular build, her little crouching walk has been compared to something straight out of The Nightmare Before Christmas!Agatha is being treated for a skin infection that is clearing up nicely, and her small patches of missing fur are expected to grow back. She is scheduled to be spayed on November 7.This little pocket pittie is an absolute sweetheart who wants nothing more than to be part of the fun, stay close to her people, and receive all the cuddles she can get. Young · Male · Black Labrador Retriever · 5 mi from Lauderdale

Meet Franklin! This handsome 1-year-old Lab mix weighs about 60 pounds and is a sweet, playful guy with lots of energy and an enthusiasm for life. Franklin loves toys, especially his Kong, tug-of-war, Benebones, and long-lasting chews. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and even puts himself to bed in his crate when he is ready to settle down!Franklin is a smart, active boy who needs an adopter committed to providing plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, structure, and consistent boundaries. He loves to run and is treadmill-trained. Nose-work games are another great way to help him use his brain and burn off energy.

Franklin is still working on impulse control and manners, so he will benefit from someone who can provide consistent guidance, routine, and positive reinforcement to help him become the best version of himself.Franklin loves having a canine companion! A confident, balanced, even-tempered resident dog would be a wonderful addition to his new home, as he enjoys having a playmate who can also help him learn to relax. He even prefers his crate to be next to his dog friend. However, a resident dog is preferred rather than required, and Franklin may do well as the only dog with the right support and structure. His compatibility with cats is unknown.Franklin's biggest challenge is being alone. He has separation anxiety and takes medication to help manage it. When left alone, he may bark incessantly, particularly if he does not have something appropriate to chew. He needs an adopter who understands separation anxiety and is prepared to continue working with him on it. A home without shared walls is required because of his barking when left alone.Franklin is a big, boisterous boy who can be a little too enthusiastic, so he needs a home with no children under 13. With the right match, consistent guidance, plenty of activity, and a canine buddy, Franklin has so much potential to grow into a wonderful companion. This 4-year-old German Shepherd mix weighs 70 pounds and has a heart as big as her love for snuggling. She also gets along with other dogs, especially those who are laid-back and respectful of her space. She enjoys playful outings with canine friends but prefers not to roughhouse, and rowdy, reactive, or overly enthusiastic dogs can make her feel nervous. She has also lived with cats in foster homes and reportedly ignores them, making her a potential fit for a home with feline friends. At home, Delilah is quiet, house-trained, and wonderfully content to spend an evening lounging on the couch with her people. She loves belly rubs, affection, and kibble, and she’s recently started discovering the fun of toys! She’s still learning how to play and beginning to get the hang of it. She may not climb into your lap, but she will happily rest her head or a paw against you to stay close. Just be prepared to share the couch, because Delilah is perfectly capable of claiming the whole thing!Delilah does have some separation anxiety and takes medication to help manage it. She may get into a little mischief while you're away, such as relocating your shoes, but she does not need to be glued to your side. She simply likes knowing someone is home and can eventually settle down for a nap when left alone. She is not crate-trained and is uncomfortable with being crated, so her future family should be prepared to accommodate her without relying on a crate. And one more thing about this princess: Delilah is not a fan of wet paws! A little drizzle may earn you a very judgmental look as she wonders why anyone would expect her to venture outside in such conditions. She will happily wait for better weather if given the choice.Delilah would love a home where she can enjoy plenty of companionship, gentle affection, and a relaxed daily routine. A family with multiple people would be especially nice, and another calm, compatible dog could be a bonus, though she doesn't need a canine companion to be happy. If you're looking for a sweet, low-key friend who will happily trade adventure-filled days for cozy evenings and endless belly rubs, Delilah might just be your girl!If you are interested in Delilah, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. 18. Chase
Young · Male · German Shepherd Dog / Terrier / Mixed · 5 mi from Lauderdale

If you’re looking for a handsome German Shepherd mix with a playful spirit, a love for adventure, and a serious appreciation for squirrels, Chase might be your guy! At approximately 1 year old and around 65 pounds, Chase is an energetic young pup who is excited to experience everything the world has to offer.Chase can be a little shy when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly and has had no trouble making himself comfortable in his foster home. Once he settles in, he is a sweet and affectionate boy who enjoys cuddling with his people. He is generally quiet, although he will bark occasionally, and he has done well being left alone without any issues.Outside is where Chase really comes alive! He loves exploring, playing fetch, playing keep-away in the yard, and occasionally enjoying a good game of tug with a stuffed toy.
Read more about Chase
He especially loves chasing squirrels, and one of his funniest habits is jumping up a tree in pursuit of one! Chase has medium to high energy and does well with a few shorter walks each day along with playtime in the yard. Because he is an active working breed, Chase will need a secure fenced yard where he can safely get additional exercise. He has not tried to escape his foster's fence, but he does like to jump, so a taller fence would be preferred.Chase is house-trained and does a nice job settling down in the home, although he will happily help himself to the trash if it is left unattended. He is not currently crate-trained, and his foster family has been working on helping him become more comfortable with a crate. Chase is still learning his manners and can be a bit of a naughty youngster. He may jump up or grab at clothing when he gets excited, but he is eager to learn and responds well to patient, consistent guidance.Chase has not yet been introduced to other dogs, so we do not know how he would do living with one. When he sees dogs while out on walks, he gets very excited and may bark, pull, jump, or whine. His behavior appears more playful and enthusiastic than aggressive or hostile, but he will need appropriate introductions and continued work on his leash manners before sharing a home with another dog.Chase has also never lived with a cat. He has a high prey drive and becomes extremely interested when he spots cats outside, pulling heavily toward them, so a home without cats may be the best fit. His foster family cannot predict how he would respond to a resident cat.Chase has had limited experience with children. He has been petted by kids while out on walks and did well, although his initial shyness meant he was not particularly interested in lingering. Because he is an excitable young dog who is still learning his manners, any interactions with children should be supervised.Chase is a fun-loving, affectionate young dog who is ready to keep learning and growing with a patient family. If you can provide him with plenty of appropriate outlets for his energy, a secure fenced yard, and lots of positive guidance, Chase would love to show you what a wonderful companion he can become! If you are interested in Chase, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Adopting a dog in Lauderdale
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
