Puppy (5 months 10 days) · Female · Cattle Dog / Mixed · 10 mi from Brentwood

Meet Alicia: She's Ready to Discover How Wonderful Life Can Be! ❤️
At just 5 months old and 17 pounds, Alicia is still a little girl figuring out this big world. She's had more to deal with in her young life than any puppy should, and now it's her turn to experience all the good things every puppy deserves. ❤️
Alicia can be a little timid when you first meet her, but give her a bit of time and patience, and her confidence starts to blossom. She just needs someone who will let her settle in at her own pace, help her feel safe, and show her that the world can be a pretty wonderful place.

Like any young pup, Alicia is still learning! She's working on her potty training and doing well in her crate. With love, patience, structure, and consistency, she'll have the support she needs to keep growing into a happy, confident companion.
And the best part? Alicia gets along great with other dogs, is good with kids, AND is good with cats! She's got the makings of a wonderful family dog—she just needs a family willing to give her the time and encouragement to shine.
This little girl has so much life ahead of her. She deserves a cozy place to sleep, a family to come home to, gentle guidance as she grows, and all the love she's been missing. No more just getting by—it's time for Alicia to start living the life every puppy deserves. ❤️
Could you be the one to show Alicia just how good life can be? Give this sweet girl her fresh start and watch her blossom into the dog she's meant to be.

5. Chili
Adult · Female · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat) · 21 mi from Brentwood

Location: Berryville, VA
Meet Chili!
Chili is a 5 year old, 38 lb, spayed purebred girlie in need of an ACD experienced, child-free home (or older child), preferably in the VA/MD/PA area.
Chili is a very intense stereotypical cattle dog, and therefore an ACD experienced home is a must. She is living with three dog-savvy cats, three resident dogs (including her littermate sister), chickens, and goats, however, she is constantly irritating her sister, and would probably prefer to be the only dog in a home, as she is a mouthy cattle dog. She is also wary of strangers, and would love to have a quiet home without many people coming and going.
Read more about Chili
She was not happy in a more urban previous home, so her ideal home would be more rural. She is well behaved around the goats, but is very intense, and I think with training she could absolutely be used to successfully move livestock. She is very receptive to training, and is truly a joy to work with.
If you are ready for a challenge with a wonderful reward, Chili is your girl. I have truly enjoyed having her here, and working with her to become the best version of herself. If you think Chili would be a good fit, please email

7. Buddy
Senior (12 years 2 months) · Male · Beagle / Mixed · 10 mi from Brentwood

Buddy is a sweet gentleman looking for a permanent cozy spot.
Buddy had a family for 12 years, but when the youngest child was headed off to college, they decided Buddy didn't have a home anymore with them. LCAR couldn't see him being left at a shelter, so they saved him and brought him to NY.
Right now, Buddy is staying with a foster family that includes adults, kids and dogs. He is thriving in his foster home. Happy to have a home and family again.

8. Jake
Adult (2 years 3 months) · Male · Pointer / Mixed (medium coat) · 10 mi from Brentwood

It has been such a joy watching Jake thrive in his foster home. This sweet boy has grown in confidence, learned how wonderful life can be, and discovered that couches, cuddles and being part of a family are pretty great.
Unfortunately, as Jake has blossomed, it has become clear that he and one of his foster brothers have officially outgrown each other.
The bromance has entered its “I think we should see other roommates” era.
No scandal. No dramatic breakup. No one is talking badly about the other on social media. Sometimes two boys just decide they need a little space.
So Jake is looking for a new foster home — or, even better, his forever home.

Jake is about 2 years old and 40 lbs and is truly a sweet, gentle baby who sometimes seems to think he’s much bigger than he is. He loves to cuddle, loves to play and, when he’s happy, hops around like a bunny.
Jake has already overcome so much, and we REALLY don’t want the next stop on his journey to be boarding.

9. Duke
Young · Male · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (short coat) · 21 mi from Brentwood

Location: Littleston, PA
Duke, a 9-month-old male Heeler weighing approximately 45 pounds. Duke is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, and current on his preventives.
While he can be shy at first, Duke warms up quickly and is incredibly sweet. He is a typical juvenile Heeler—eager to please but full of energy (occasionally earning the nickname "Duke the Destroyer" for his fondness for chewing dog beds). He has great recall and is safe around chickens, horses, cows and cats. He is also fully house-trained with a dog door, crates quietly, and loves playing with other young dogs.
Read more about Duke
Duke would thrive in a home that provides structure rather than discipline; he does not respond well to yelling or threats and needs a patient environment to feel secure. He generally prefers men, though he is friendly with women as well.
If you are looking for a dedicated jogging, hiking, or farm companion, Duke is the perfect match. He is currently located in Littlestown, PA.

Bringing a dog home to your cat
Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.
Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.
Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.
