79lbs OF BOXER ENERGY, COMING RIGHT UP!
Meet Maximus! He’s 1.5 years old, full of bouncy Boxer energy, obsessed with squeaky stuffies, and convinced he’s a lap dog. ❤️
The problem? Shelter life is overstimulating, and Max needs more exercise, enrichment, and structure than the shelter can consistently provide. Give this boy a chance to burn off some energy, and even that enthusiastic leash-grabbing can improve!
Max is dog social, people social, neutered, and up to date on vet care. He’s having a hard time in the shelter, and we’d love to see him decompress and do his zoomies in a home.

Max needs a foster or forever home! An experienced Boxer home that understands adolescent energy and can give him the exercise, consistency, and outlets he needs could make all the difference.
MAX is in Maine and needs a FOSTER OR ADOPTER URGENTLY!

I follow that woman EVERYWHERE. She moves, I move. She sits, I’m right there. If she ever figures out how to shower without me supervising, I’ll be shocked.

4. Jumba in TN
Puppy · Male · Great Pyrenees / English Mastiff / Mixed (medium coat)

* Check Out My Video Album Below! *
Meet Jumba, a lovable Great Pyrenees and English Mastiff mix who is ready to win your heart with his sweet personality and wonderfully balanced puppy energy! This handsome boy has a medium activity level and a special knack for knowing when it’s time to play and when he should settle down. He loves spending time with his people, whether they have two legs or four, and shows wonderful compassion while happily matching your energy. Jumba can turn his playful puppy mode on and off, so he won’t wear you out by demanding to play 24/7!
Read more about Jumba in TN
Jumba is actively learning his manners and daily routines, and he’s picking up good habits quickly. He is crate trained and is working on his leash skills. Inside his crate, he is generally calm and quiet, with most of his puppy vocals reserved for letting you know when he needs a potty break. He has also shown that he can be calm and relaxed when the moment calls for it. One of his most adorable quirks? Instead of sleeping in a typical doggy position, Jumba prefers to curl up in a classic cat-bun pose!
This social fellow loves meeting new friends and has enjoyed opportunities to meet people through his foster home and veterinary visits. He has also been exposed to other dogs and is eager to meet them, especially when there’s a chance to play! Jumba has met cats too, and has shown gentle curiosity around them. While he hasn’t had the opportunity to spend time around children yet, he would likely do well with dog-savvy kids ages six and up, who can appreciate that he’s a big puppy still learning about the world. He doesn’t seem interested in digging, and his barking is about what you’d expect from a pup.
When the weather is pleasant, Jumba enjoys being outdoors, soaking up the sunshine, and exploring everything the world has to offer. He’s also a fan of chicken nuggets! Car rides are still a work in progress, and he hasn’t quite decided they’re cool yet. He’s also not a fan of getting soggy, so keeping this boy nice and dry is highly recommended unless you’re prepared for a little wet-weather protest!
Jumba’s ideal home would be with a moderately active family ready to help him continue learning and growing, preferably with another friendly dog to be his companion and playmate. A 5-foot securely fenced yard would give him a wonderful place to explore, sunbathe, and enjoy outdoor adventures. Most of all, Jumba is looking for a family who will appreciate his affectionate nature, respect his need for downtime, and help him become the best dog he can be. With his sweet heart, social spirit, and impressive ability to balance fun with relaxation, Jumba is sure to bring plenty of love and laughter to his forever home!

Read more about Pleekly in TN
Meet Pleekly, an adorable Great Pyrenees and English Mastiff mix who is ready to find his forever family! This mild-mannered, eager-to-please pup is a quick learner who is excited to discover the world and make his people proud. He’s working on his leash skills and learning household routines, but he catches on quickly and is happy to learn. One of the sweetest things about Pleekly is how he likes to walk right alongside you, hopping his way down the path while giving your hand an affectionate lick. He is crate-trained, has a medium activity level, and comes with a handy little on/off switch for puppy mode, so you can enjoy his playful side without being entertained by puppy antics every waking minute!
Pleekly is a social guy who loves making friends, whether they have four legs or two! He has been exposed to other dogs and enjoys playing with new canine pals. Having another friendly dog in his forever home would be perfect, especially one who can show him the ropes. He has also been around cats and shows interest while remaining gentle in their presence. Although he hasn't met children yet, we suspect he could do well with them; because he is going to be a big boy, a home with dog-savvy children ages 6 and up would be the best fit.
When it comes to house manners, Pleekly is a pleasantly quiet pup, making about the amount of noise you'd expect from a puppy and generally staying quieter indoors. In fact, he mostly speaks up when he needs to go potty! He hasn’t shown any interest in digging (yet). When the weather is lovely, you'll often find him happily rotating between his doghouse and a sunny patch of grass, soaking up the fresh air and enjoying the simple pleasures of a beautiful day. And when it's time to settle down for a nap, Pleekly has his own adorable style: he prefers to curl up in the classic cat bun position rather than flop upside down like a typical pup. And offer him a chicken nugget, and you will have a friend for life!
Pleekly would thrive in a moderately active home where he can enjoy companionship, keep his mind and body busy, and continue learning at his own pace. A 5-foot securely fenced yard would give him a safe place to explore, play, and enjoy the sunshine. Pleekly needs a family ready to help him grow into the wonderful companion he's meant to be. With his sweet nature, eagerness to learn, and irresistible combination of puppy hops and hand kisses, Pleekly is sure to bring plenty of smiles and affection to his forever home!

She loves cuddling with her humans and firmly believes that couches and beds are meant to be shared, so her forever family must be happy to welcome her onto the furniture!

Opal is housebroken and learning basic commands. She has a medium activity level and absolutely LOVES being outdoors, especially exploring her yard and digging little dens to bury her favorite toys. She also enjoys spending time with her people and is always happy to soak up affection.
Opal is friendly with new people and has done well around other dogs, including playing in the yard with the resident 40-pound pup. She has grown especially close to her foster family's two children, ages 12 and 13, and could be happy in a home with or without kids or other dogs. She has met younger children on walks but hasn't shown much interest in little ones.
This sweet girl has a sensitive side when it comes to unfamiliar places and loud noises. Busy environments and passing cars can make her nervous, so she would do best in a quieter neighborhood. Opal's ideal home would have a 4-foot fenced yard where she can explore, dig, and hide her treasures. Most importantly, she needs a family who will shower her with love, include her in daily life, and happily share their couch and bed with her. Opal has so much love to give and will bring joyful greetings, endless sweetness, and plenty of snuggles to the lucky family who welcomes her home!

NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog.
Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.

7. Yuzu
Adult · Female · Jindo (Korean) / Terrier / Mixed

Located in Brooklyn NYC -Meet Yuzu! A sweet, affectionate girl with a gentle soul, a silly personality, and so much love to give.Yuzu is a 6-year-old, 27-pound South Asian Village Dog who was rescued from the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal. Before coming to the United States, Yuzu was known as an incredibly friendly dog in her neighborhood. She would often visit a local outdoor café, happily approaching people, making friends, and enjoying all the attention. From the very beginning, Yuzu has loved people and children and has always had a special way of connecting with those around her. What makes her wonderful: Yuzu is affectionate, gentle, silly, smart, and incredibly emotionally intuitive.
Read more about Yuzu
She is a true companion dog who loves being close to her people and being included in everyday life. After coming to the United States, Yuzu spent six wonderful years with her family in California. She has lived in both a city with a backyard and a quieter beach town, and she has always enjoyed being part of family life.Yuzu loves cuddling, belly scratches, hiking, beaches, sunbathing, squirrels, lizards, and especially beach zoomies! She has a fun and playful side, but she is also perfectly happy relaxing beside her people. She is house trained, crate trained, comfortable being home alone, and has excellent house manners. She is very food motivated, knows her basic commands, and responds beautifully to positive reinforcement.Yuzu absolutely loves children and has successfully lived with several cats. She also enjoys the company of gentle, playful dogs she knows and trusts. She is a devoted little companion who wants nothing more than to feel safe, loved, and included in her family's everyday life. What She Needs: Yuzu would thrive in a quieter, peaceful environment where she doesn't have to constantly navigate the overwhelming stimulation of a busy city. Since moving to New York City, her family has realized that the loud noises, constant activity, and sheer number of dogs and people have been very difficult for her. The amount of stimulation has been overwhelming for her, and her family is concerned about her quality of life in this environment.Yuzu can be nervous around unfamiliar larger dogs, particularly when she is on leash. When she becomes overwhelmed or frightened, she may bark or lunge out of fear. This is something she has made meaningful progress with over the years through patience, positive reinforcement, and support. Her family believes she would be much happier in a quieter area with less dog traffic, access to nature, and ideally a yard.Yuzu needs someone who understands sensitive dogs and is willing to give her patience, consistency, and reassurance as she continues building confidence. She doesn't need a busy lifestyle—she needs a peaceful one. A home where she can enjoy walks in quieter areas, spend time outdoors, relax in her yard, and be close to her people would be ideal.Health: Yuzu is a happy and healthy girl, although her anxiety has increased since moving to the city, and she is currently on a full dose of anxiety medication to help her cope with the environment. Her family is seeking a home where she can experience less stimulation and hopefully enjoy a better quality of life. She has excellent house manners, is house and crate trained, and is comfortable being left home alone. Why we're rehoming her: This is an incredibly difficult decision for Yuzu's family because they love her very much. Yuzu has spent six happy years with them in California, and she has been a cherished member of their family. They have watched her grow, traveled through different environments with her, and know how loving and special she is.Unfortunately, since moving to New York City, they have realized that the busy urban environment is simply too overwhelming for Yuzu. The constant noise, activity, and high density of dogs have made it difficult for her to feel comfortable and relaxed. Her family doesn't want her to spend her life feeling ov

Brutus and Skye love meeting new people, making friends, and soaking up all the attention they can get. They do wonderfully with children, get along with other dogs, and are comfortable around cats, too. They are happy to join you on outings and adventures, especially if a pup cup is involved! These two are not diggers or escape artists, and their foster reports no behavioral concerns at all. They are simply sweet, gentle companions who want to be included in family life and loved by their humans as much as they love each other.
Brutus and Skye would thrive in a quiet home with a yard and a 4-foot fence, where they can enjoy peaceful days, plenty of affection, and the comfort of being together. Their foster describes caring for them as a wonderful experience and says that if there weren't already 11 dogs at home, this lovely couple would absolutely be staying! It's easy to understand why. BONDED PAIR
Read more about Scooter
Scooter is such a happy and friendly little senior man that absolutely loves everyone he meets. He is bonded with his brother Tucker so they are a package deal, but they are a pretty easy duo that would fit nicely into anyone's lifestyle. Even though he’s a quarter of the size as his brother I’d say Scooter is the leader of their mini pack and seems to be a confident little guy. He is nice and calm and would love to cuddle on the couch but he also enjoys his leisurely walks where he can check out all the daily smells. He doesn’t seem crazy about his toys, he mostly just likes to hang out on the back of their chair in their room so if you have a comfy chair with a nice window view Scooter would urge you to come say hello!

14. Hayden in GA
Young · Male · Great Pyrenees (long coat)

Meet Hayden, a handsome Pyr with a heart as big as his paws! Hayden was found as a stray in Georgia and taken to an animal shelter before NGPR brought him into rescue. Since arriving in his foster home, he has shown himself to be an incredibly sweet, affectionate boy who loves attention of any kind. He is truly a love bug and a very good boy!
Read more about Hayden in GA
Hayden is leash-trained and highly receptive to training, quickly picking up new things. He is currently working on “sit,” “leave it,” “bed,” and “come,” and is eager to learn. He has a moderate activity level and would be a wonderful companion for an active family. Hayden gets along beautifully with other dogs, including his foster’s Great Pyrenees and Chihuahua, and would love a home with a canine companion or two. He has also been exposed to both indoor and outdoor cats. He is very curious about them and simply wants to play, so he would do best with cats who are comfortable around dogs and tolerant of his playful interest.
Hayden has been wonderful with everyone he has met and absolutely loves people and their attention. He hasn’t been exposed to children yet, but given his sweet and gentle nature, he is expected to do well with older kids. Hayden does bark occasionally, usually when separated from his people, but he responds well when asked to stop while indoors. He enjoys a balance of indoor and outdoor time, but what he loves most is being with his people. At night, he settles quietly on his dog bed on the floor and sleeps peacefully through the night.
Hayden’s favorite treat is peanut butter, which is sure to win you a few extra tail wags! This beautiful boy truly is the epitome of sweetness, and his affectionate personality makes him a joy to have around. Hayden’s ideal home would be with an active, loving family, another dog or two to share life with, and a 5-foot securely fenced yard. If you’re looking for a loving companion who enjoys being close to his people, gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and is ready to keep learning and growing with his forever family, Hayden could be your PYR-fect match!

Senior (9 years 1 month) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Dakota is an adorable 9 yr old pocket pity with a sensitive soul looking for her new forever home. She can be a little shy but once she gets to know you she likes to talk to you with little grumbles to let you know she’s excited to see you. She looks great for her age with just a little arthritis in her back hips but she gets around just fine! She would surely love a new couch to curl up on and get some good cuddles from a new loving family. She also loves her tennis ball and will play fetch then come up to you for some good butt scratches while she wiggles it around for you. She’s such a little sweetheart and we can’t wait to see who will take her home!

Fluffy is a sweet, affectionate Pyr who came to NGPR from a North Carolina shelter as an owner surrender for an unknown reason, and he’s now ready to find his forever person. He is housebroken, crate trained, leash trained, and knows “sit,” with lovely house manners. A medium-energy boy, Fluffy enjoys both indoor and outdoor time, especially walks, playtime, and running and rolling in the grass. He is the most affectionate guy with the sweetest puppy-dog eyes and loves resting his head against your leg for pets. He’s also wonderfully silly, with a hilarious “boot scoot” run that will keep you smiling!
Read more about Fluffy in NC
Fluffy is shy when meeting new people and has not yet been exposed to children, so a home with respectful introductions and appropriate supervision would be best. He has done well with both male and female big dogs and could happily live with or without canine companions, although he might enjoy having a friend to play with. He is shy around cats but doesn’t bother them, and he has shown little interest in the resident rabbits (who are separated by a gate).
He doesn’t dig, doesn’t appear to be an escape artist, and is quieter than the average Pyr - he is generally quiet in the house unless other dogs start howling, at which point he happily joins the chorus! If you howl at him, be prepared for a full-on Fluffy serenade. His ideal home would be a semi-active family who will include him in walks and playtime, with either a canine buddy or plenty of attention from his people. A 4-foot fenced yard would be appropriate, or he can be a leash-walk-only dog. He would also adore lots and lots of toys! - Balls, bones, stuffies - he loves them all! Fluffy is a wonderful “beginner” Pyr who is silly, playful, loving, and simply wants someone of his own to love and be loved by.

17. Penny
Adult · Female · Cane Corso Mastiff

Meet Penny! A Loving lady looking for the perfect match.Penny is a 2.5 year-old Cane Corso that weighs around 118 pounds. What Makes Her Wonderful: Penny is a deeply loving, affectionate girl who is happiest when she is close to her family. She is incredibly bonded to her people and absolutely adores her young children. At home, she is a total cuddle bug who loves attention, belly rubs, and being included in whatever her family is doing. Penny especially loves spending time outdoors. She could happily spend hours lying in the sunshine, following her family around while they garden, or simply relaxing nearby.
Read more about Penny
She isn’t a dog who needs constant activity or entertainment—she is perfectly content being your companion and soaking up the sun. We truly think she would love a home with plenty of outdoor space, and a farm or similar property could be a wonderful fit for her.As a Cane Corso, Penny has the loyal, devoted, protective nature that makes this breed so special. She is naturally watchful and may bark when someone unfamiliar first arrives, but she can warm up quickly when she realizes someone is a friend. In fact, she is currently doing wonderfully with two men inside the home replacing windows—she is relaxed, wagging her tail, asking them for pets, and enjoying their attention. Once she understands that someone is welcome, she can be incredibly sweet and affectionate. Her Health: Penny is currently doing very well on her daily fluoxetine, which has made a tremendous positive difference in her overall anxiety and ability to relax. With consistent medication, she is much calmer and has been able to stay home alone without being crated. She does have significant separation anxiety, which her family is actively managing and treating. Consistency is very important for her, and keeping her medication routine is a key part of helping her remain comfortable and successful.Penny also has some behavioral considerations that are important for her future family to understand. She has shown aggression toward small dogs, particularly small fluffy breeds, and has demonstrated resource guarding around other larger dogs. Because of this, we believe she would do best as the only pet in the home, with no small dogs or other small animals. Her family is committed to being completely transparent about her needs so that her next home can be one where she is understood, supported, and set up for success. Why We're Rehoming Her: Rehoming Penny is an incredibly difficult decision, and this is not something her family is taking lightly. -We love her very much, and she is deeply bonded to our family. She is affectionate, devoted, wonderful with our young children, and has so many qualities that we absolutely adore. However, we recognize that Penny needs a very specific environment in order to truly thrive. As a Cane Corso with strong guardian instincts, anxiety, and reactivity toward certain animals, she needs an experienced owner who understands the breed and is comfortable managing a powerful guardian dog.Our goal is not simply to find Penny another home—it is to find the right home for Penny. We believe her ideal family would have experience with Cane Corso’s or similar guardian breeds, no small dogs or other small animals, a securely fenced property, and the ability to provide her with consistency, structure, companionship, and continued support with her anxiety.Penny has so much love to give. She wants to be with her people, be included in their lives, spend time outside, and receive all the affection she can get. We are committed to finding her a home where her wonderful qualities can shine and where she can feel safe, loved, and understood for the rest of her life.

18. Cincy
Adult (1 year 6 months) · Female · Boxer (short coat)

Meet Colombia, now known as Cosette.
Cosette is about 1–2 years old, healthy and spayed, and she’s slowly gaining weight, confidence, and trust. She absolutely loves other dogs, and her canine friends have been so important in teaching her what it means to simply be a dog.
She’s still timid and unsure of new surroundings, and we don’t have any history with little kids. But she is a total sweetheart who is making progress every day.
For Cosette, a fenced yard is a must right now. She isn’t comfortable walking on a leash or navigating unfamiliar places yet, so having a safe space where she can take things at her own pace will be important.

THEY’VE BEEN THROUGH ENOUGH. NOW IT’S THEIR TURN TO LEARN THAT LIFE CAN BE GOOD. ❤️
Please welcome Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil & Columbia.
These four beautiful girls were among the dogs rescued from a condemned property where they lived covered in fleas, feces and urine, with little to no socialization.
Right now, they’re still in the shelter—and they’re struggling. The noise, unfamiliar surroundings and sheer overwhelm have made it difficult for them to understand that people are here to help.
But their story isn’t over. ❤️
This week, they’ll leave the shelter. We’re hoping that with quiet spaces, patience, gentle care and time, we’ll begin to see these scared girls discover their brave.
We can’t wait to meet the dogs hiding underneath all that fear.
Welcome, girls. Your good life is coming. ❤️

Adult · Male · Great Pyrenees (long coat)

Read more about Bear in SC
Meet Bear, the goofiest, most huggable teddy bear you'll ever meet! Bear was pulled from an animal shelter in South Carolina, and while his early history is a bit of a mystery, everything about his personality since says he's ready for his happily-ever-after. He's fully housebroken, and his leash manners currently sit at a respectable B- (and climbing every day!). He tolerates his crate just fine, but honestly doesn't need it much - he gets the run of the house for up to seven hours at a stretch while his foster family is out, and he's never chewed a thing or made a mess, proving he's more teddy bear than grizzly when left to his own devices. His house training and socialization are excellent.
Activity-wise, Bear is a moderate mover: he mostly likes to sleep the day away, but perks right up to chase and roughhouse with his Pyr housemate. He's not an escape artist or a runner and stays put in the fenced backyard without supervision. Bear gets along with both of his foster family's indoor cats, happily playing with the friendly one while giving the more standoffish cat its space, and he's equally easygoing with other dogs - he gets along great with his fellow foster Pyr and the family's mentor dog, a 45-pound female mix. Meeting new people is a treat for Bear, who just wants all the attention he can get; he even visits his foster dad’s office once a week to make new friends. And he did great meeting people of all ages at a cross country meet, where he found every unoccupied hand and put his head in it to be petted.
Given South Carolina's heat, Bear prefers short outdoor stints of 30 minutes or less, though he does love parking himself at the fence to bark hello (or maybe just announce himself) to passersby. Inside, he's a champion snuggler - he'll rest his face right in your lap or lean his head on your shoulder while you're sitting, though he's polite enough to stay off the beds and furniture entirely, simply by his own choice. Also, Bear believes in eating healthy, and his favorite snacks include broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower - Give him a bowl of California Blend and he’s a happy boy!
Bear has a jolly, goofy spirit - he trots around with a permanently silly grin, determined to be everyone's best friend, and follows his people from room to room like their own personal shadow. With his big, muppet-like look and his habit of nosing or gently “Pyr-pawing" you for pets whenever he's awake, Bear is basically a life-sized teddy bear who just wants to be loved. His ideal home would be moderately active - regular walks, backyard playtime behind a fence at least 4.5 feet tall, and ideally another dog to play with or someone home often enough to keep him well socialized. Bear is ready for a family of his very own to snuggle, and once he finds them, he'll be the most devoted, bear-hugging friend they could ask for.

Meet Hobbes, a sweet and affectionate Pyr who is ready to find his foster or forever home! Currently staying in boarding, Hobbes was picked up as a stray in Tennessee, and now he’s hoping his next chapter will be filled with love, companionship, and a cozy place to call home. This easygoing boy has a medium energy level and a lovely, easy-care, shorter coat that makes grooming a breeze. He absolutely loves human attention, being petted, and following his people around. He can be a little shy when meeting new people in large groups, but he warms up quickly with one-on-one attention and soon shows his affectionate side. Hobbes does well on a leash, though he enjoys taking his time to meander and explore, and he already knows how to sit on command. He gets into the car and rides well in a crate, although longer trips can leave him feeling a bit carsick. Hobbes has been doing well with other dogs at doggie daycare and made lots of canine friends at an adoption event, where he also did well meeting children. Hobbes would likely thrive in a home with other dogs, gentle, dog-savvy children, and a 5-foot securely fenced yard. Most of all, he’s looking for someone who will appreciate his gentle nature, enjoy his affectionate company, and give him the chance to blossom into the wonderful companion he’s meant to be. Could Hobbes be the sweet new friend you’ve been waiting for?

Meet Lorelai, a sweet, gentle girl who seems to have been born to be everyone’s best friend! This lovely Pyr was found roaming the roads in Tennessee, but she hasn’t let her uncertain beginnings dim her loving spirit. She is housebroken, leash trained, and crate trained, making her a wonderful companion ready to settle into her forever home. Lorelai has a medium activity level and enjoys playing with other dogs in the yard, but she’s equally happy soaking up the sunshine or relaxing beside her favorite person. She prefers being indoors with her family and would love a home with a canine brother and a 4-foot fenced yard.
Lorelai absolutely adores people and is always excited to meet someone new. She wants all the attention she can get and is generous with her sweet, gentle hugs! She has the most irresistible ways of politely asking for affection, and even when she’s playing, she’s remarkably gentle. Before coming to her current foster home, Lorelai regularly visited a property where she interacted wonderfully with several young children. She happily accepted their hugs and pets and even let them walk her on a lead without any issues. She also befriended the family’s chunky goat and enjoyed hanging out with her! Lorelai doesn’t mind cats, either, and seems to do best with male dogs, and doesn’t appear to care for puppies.
When it comes to her favorite activities, brushing is high on the list and is one of the quickest ways to win her heart. She also enjoys car rides, sunshine, snuggles, and, of course, chicken nuggets! Rainy weather isn’t her favorite, and she may need some encouragement to venture outside when it’s wet. Loud noises can make her uncomfortable, too, so a patient, reassuring family will help her feel safe and secure.
Lorelai is truly a family dog with love to spare. She doesn’t care what kind of day you’ve had or what you’re going through - she has friendship to offer. She’ll gladly welcome her people, befriend her furry housemates, keep them company, and snuggle up with them, too. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who will make you feel like her favorite person every single day, Lorelai is ready to wrap you in a hug and steal your heart!

Adult · Female · Shih Tzu / Pekingese / Mixed (long coat)

If you see this listing, it means Clementine is available for adoption. We take our time to find the ideal match for the Animal Saints we save, as well as for the humans who wish to adopt them.
Backstory for Clementine
Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to help with an owner surrender involving several "Imperial" Shih Tzu. Their former person was having emergency medical issues that were life threatening, and they were not well enough to take care of them. Our nonprofit became the safety net for these incredible Shih Tzu.
Read more about Clementine
Our nonprofit is here to help so the Animal Saints do not end up in overcrowded government animal control facilities that euthanize due to lack of space. Clementine recently arrived to our sanctuary to get all of the medical care she needs. Now that we have gotten to know her personality and she has shown us what she needs in a family, she is ready to be placed in her lifetime home. We look forward to finding out who this will be!

Additional procedures and treatments:
• Microchipped
• Fecal test, negative
• Flea/tick preventive treatment, heart worm prevention, and dewormer
• First positive reinforcement training sessions
• Several baths and grooms
A good health certificate will be provided with her medical records.
Requested adoption donation fee is only $800. This is to partly cover the costs of care that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue has incurred. On average, Animal Saints’ cost to save a life through our nonprofit exceeds $2,000 per Saint. We do our best to keep our adoption requests as reasonable as possible to encourage more people to adopt.
Breed and Hair Notes
Clementine has hair and not fur. She is a very rare "Imperial" Shih Tzu with liver and cream hues. She is full grown and tiny. Some are guessing she has a bit of Pekingese in the mix. Whatever she is, she's amazing and one-of-a-kind.
PLEASE NOTE: Clementine’s hair will grow as it is not fur. She will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.
Clementine is terrific for baths and grooming. She’s had a few since arriving. She was frightened at first, but now she loves the attention. An adopter who loves to maintain her longer hair is an ideal match.
Personality
Clementine is incredibly sweet but incredibly shy. Once she trusts someone, her loyalty, love, and exuberance for life is so impressive and moving. Her eagerness to connect is there, but please note that this connection will take time. It’s possible that it will take a least a couple of visits to our sanctuary before she connects with her new person. If you are an empathetic soul and can completely understand that this will take time with her personality, please keep reading.
It appears that Clementine has not met very many people in her life. She is under socialized and skittish. Because of it, she is a flight risk. Only very securely fenced-in yards will be accepted for her. Do not plan to take her for a walk safely until you’ve completed all of your training classes. She is just getting comfortable being outside; she’s not yet ready for leashed walking. In time, we can see her potentially enjoying it. But it will take time and patience to allow her to gain confidence.
If you live in an urban setting and fall in love with Clementine, please note that it will take weeks and even months before she is comfortable with the sights and sounds of city life. With a very experienced adopter, this could be possible. But we do believe she will be much calmer and hap

She has long, soft fur which is currently shaved due to matting, but it's expected to grow back beautifully now that she's getting lots of attention and good groceries.

Wanda is housebroken, leash trained, and crate trained, and knows how to sit on command. She's a low-key, lazy girl who prefers being inside and enjoys watching the world go by, whether that's the neighbor's kids playing or cars driving down the street. Her foster family has a fenced yard, and Wanda has never tried to escape or run off. She's done great meeting new people, including at vet visits, though she will bark at the UPS guy. She will also bark at sirens, and sometimes she’ll even join in with a little howl! She hasn't been around children directly since her foster family doesn't have kids, but she watches the neighbor's children, who range from 8 to 15, with a lot of curiosity. She gets along well with both indoor and outdoor cats of all ages, seeming unbothered by them, and does well with other dogs of different sizes and energy levels, including her foster home's three resident dogs. Wanda loves to cuddle up with her furry foster siblings. She's shy at first around new dogs and takes some time to warm up. The one thing she prefers to do solo is eating, as she can be protective of her food around other pets, though this isn't an issue with humans. Storms don’t bother her, as she went through her first hurricane like a champ and did amazing!
Wanda is, at heart, a total cuddle-bug who will shove her paw in your face and swat you if you're not giving her enough attention. She loves sleeping on top of her people, curling up in soft blankets, and giving hugs - she'll trust fall into your arms, so be ready to catch her for that embrace! Bread is her favorite treat. She'd do best in a low volume home, as a leash-walk-only dog or with access to a 4-foot fenced yard, and while she'd be perfectly happy as an only pet, she'd also do well with one or two dog or cat siblings. Above all, Wanda is a sweet, affectionate snuggle-buddy who just wants your attention.

Kenzi is a happy, athletic, fun-loving Pyr who seems to have a permanent smile on her face! She was found as a stray in Indiana after tornadoes hit the area, and she’s now ready to find an active family to call her own. Kenzi is super smart, eager to learn, housebroken, and leash trained. She is also crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night. Her favorite things in the world are playing and hanging out with other dogs, going for walks and hikes, and getting belly rubs. She’ll happily roll over for a tummy scratch and make it very clear that she’d prefer you never stop! She also loves treats, bully sticks, and chews, and she does great in the car.
Kenzi absolutely LOVES other dogs and must have a canine companion around her size who enjoys wrestling, running, and playing as much as she does. She gets along with both males and females, respects older dogs who prefer a quieter life, and would do well in a multi-dog household. She enjoys spending time outside, especially when another dog is out there with her, so a 6-foot fenced yard is a must. Although Kenzi loves people and happily makes new friends, she seems to love dogs even more! She has been friendly with everyone she's met, and even her vet's office and dog sitter adore her. She would be a great companion for an active family who enjoys outings to parks, walks, hikes, and kids' sporting events.
Kenzi has lived with 5 cats and will playfully chase them, but she doesn't hurt them. She responds to commands and redirects easily, and she stops when the cats hiss or swat at her. Her experience with children has been limited, but she should do well with children older than seven who understand and are comfortable around energetic dogs. Kenzi enjoys being both inside and outside with her family and canine buddies, but she doesn't like being alone (or storms). Fortunately, having another dog around helps her feel comfortable, even when her people leave the house. Kenzi's cheerful personality, boundless enthusiasm, and tremendous love for her dog friends make her a special girl. If you have an active home, a playful canine companion, and plenty of belly-rub time to spare, Kenzi may be the perfect addition to your family!

29. Seth
Adult (3 years 2 months) · Male · Boxer (short coat)

Welcome to CH Boxer Rescue, Seth!
This handsome goofball just traded the noise and stress of an overcrowded shelter for the comfort of a foster home. Every kennel matters in a packed shelter, so by welcoming Seth to safety, foster mom Kelly also made room for another dog desperately waiting for their chance. ❤️
Seth is a young, healthy, fully vetted wigglebutt, estimated to be 3–4 years old and weighing in at 72 pounds. He's full of playful energy, loves his toys, and has a blast running around the play yard. He also tested well with other dogs, loves water and was even pretty indifferent to cats—a rare talent for a boxer!

Please note that we are often asked if dogs are "house trained". The dogs are in fact living in a kennel environment during their time with us. Even if they have previously lived in a home and been trained - the stress of the change and the new home can sometimes cause regression and require some additional training. We feel that it's best for all adopters to be prepared for this possibility.

Adopting a dog in Ulster County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
