1. Bandit

Young · Male · Carolina Dog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Bandit!

Bandit is a 1 year old, neutered Carolina dog and Labrador mix who was saved from euthanasia in a high kill TX shelter. He has been fostered for 3 months in Lebanon, TN. We are looking to rehome him in the next two to three weeks because our resident dogs do not get along with him despite our best efforts.

Read more about Bandit

He is eager to please, intelligent, playful, medium energy, affectionate and curious! He is good with people of all ages, including children 5 and older, and gets along well with dogs when he is properly introduced. We think Bandit would do well in a home with other dogs that match his playful energy. He would also do well in a home as a solo dog.

We do not recommend him for a home with cats given his prey drive towards small animals.

Bandit is house/potty trained, crate trained and walks well on a leash. He currently knows "sit", "leave it" and “wait” and will patiently wait at doors and for his meals. He is very treat motivated and responds well to a clicker during his training. He has received some obedience training and continues to learn new skills each week.
Bandit loves to play fetch, loves squeaky and chew toys and playing chase with his foster siblings.

Bandit is 41 lbs, in perfect health, neutered, fully vetted, up to date on all vaccines and rabies, heartworm negative, microchipped and current on heartworm preventive.

Foster will provide Bandit’s food, all vet records and rabies certificate for his new adopter.

If Bandit sounds like the kind of companion you've been missing, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com. Be sure to include your city and state so we can learn a little about where this handsome fellow might be headed for his next chapter!

Adult · Male · Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet our most handsome Remy! This Australian Shepherd mix is a loving, 2 year old, 62 lb, boy who is searching for a dog focused family that will spend lots of time with him. He delights in being with his favorite people and we are looking for a family or situation that will not leave him home alone a lot. A work from home family or stay at home mom with teens. He is crate trained, house trained, and has completed 2 weeks of basic obedience training. He learned heel, sit, down, stay, and come. He was a favorite of the staff! Remy has gotten along with the other dogs in his foster home who are about his same size, as well as a playmate at Doggie Daycare.

Read more about Remy

A large fenced yard would be best so he can safely run and play with plenty of room, but he also loves being indoors with his family. . A home with adults or teens would be best because of his size and playfulness. BIO: Toby was turned over to us by another rescue after being returned for a severe ear infection. The infection has been fully treated, but they felt we could better find him a forever home due to his Dachshund mix. We are conducting a DNA test to determine his exact mix.

Toby gets along well with other dogs but can be hand-shy when someone reaches over his head. This may be due to past experiences, so his adopter should be patient and understanding. Since joining our rescue, he has grown more trusting and is becoming less fearful. He loves to play ball and enjoys the game, even if he doesn’t always bring it back.

Our must haves for Toby are:

A fenced in yard
Another senior dog to hang around with
Someone that is retired and can spend time with him as he loves his humans once he trusts
No apartments, high rises or condos and he does like to bark at things

If you think you can give this sweet boy a home, then reach out to the rescue. He deserves a good home because we are not sure he’s had that.

BIO: This little guy just can’t seem to catch a break. Artie originally came from North Carolina, and since arriving, we discovered he is heartworm positive and has a mild back condition. His new adopters will need to ensure he avoids jumping and stairs, and stays at a healthy weight. His heartworm treatment will be complete by the end of December, at which point he will be ready for adoption.

When Artie first arrived, he was quite shy. After nearly a month in rescue, he has really come out of his shell and become very social with people he knows. Adopters should expect him to be a bit shy initially, but with a little time, he will become a loving and playful companion. He loves playing games, which includes playfully stealing items like dryer sheets, toys, or paper so you will chase him!

Artie currently uses a doggie door. If his new home does not have one, he will need to be taken out to potty on a regular schedule. Artie is crate trained so or if you were going to be gone crating him would be fine.

Our must haves for the little man are:

A fenced in yard is a must
Another small adult dog for him to hang with
Someone that can be home more than not
Please no apartments, high rises or condos

If you think you can give Artie a great forever home then don’t waste time. Fill out our application. He’ll be waiting for you to take him home the end of December. Thank you for thinking of rescue and wanting to help the homeless one rescue at a time.

This dog is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $200 if picked up in TN, $275 plus transport fee for out-of-state adoptions.

Read more about Oakley

Oakley is a soft-hearted girl whose happy tail and sweet smile are worth taking the time to earn. She may be a little shy when meeting someone new, but once she begins to feel safe, her affectionate personality starts to shine. Before long, you may find her happily wagging her tail just because you're sitting nearby and giving her a little attention. This lovely 2.5-year-old Lab mix weighs 46 pounds and has a moderate energy level. She enjoys leisurely walks, tasty treats, and one of her favorite pastimes, snuggling on the couch with her person. Oakley is housetrained, does well in her crate, and walks nicely on leash, making her an easy companion for daily routines. Oakley has done well with the other dogs and cat in her foster home. She has also been around chickens and a horse, which she simply ignores. New people and unfamiliar situations can make her timid and a little jumpy, so she will appreciate a calm, patient family that gives her time to settle in and build trust. She is still getting comfortable in her foster home, and there is likely even more of her sweet personality waiting to emerge. Oakley would love a quieter home where she can form a close bond with her people, enjoy daily walks and activities, and then curl up beside them for a relaxing evening. If you believe the best friendships are built with a little patience and a lot of love, Oakley may be the girl you've been waiting for. This dog is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $200 if picked up in TN, $275 plus transport fee for out-of-state adoptions.

Read more about Bree

Bree wiggles her entire body the moment she sees her person, long ears bouncing up and down, and it is impossible not to smile. This 10-month-old Dachshund mix weighs 22 pounds and has the playful energy of a puppy. She loves squeaky toys, investigating new surroundings, and showering her favorite people with kisses on faces, ears, hands, and toes. When playtime winds down, there is nothing she likes better than curling up in a lap to watch TV, happy just to be near you. Bree is fully housetrained with no accidents so far, as long as she gets regular potty breaks in the morning, afternoon, and at bedtime. She is crate trained too, lying quietly inside, and she enjoys traveling in her crate and riding in the car. She does not know any commands yet, so she is a blank slate ready to learn. On walks she can go a good distance, stopping often to sniff everything along the way.

The big world outside can feel a little overwhelming to Bree. New noises, cars, people, and dogs make her nervous at first, and she may bark a little or try to keep her distance. The more she meets them, the braver she gets, and with time she warms up and her sweet personality shines through. She is a homebody at heart and perfectly content spending quiet time with her person.

Bree would be happiest with a family who will help her build confidence one new experience at a time, and who will enjoy having a loyal little lap buddy in return. With the right support, she is going to blossom into a wonderful, devoted companion. If you have the patience and heart to help a sweet girl find her courage, Bree would love to meet you. 15. Brittany

Young · Female · Beagle (short coat)

This beautiful purebred Beagle girl called Brittany is our pride and joy to offer to a Beagle loving family. Her story is sad and one that will make you sad and mad all rolled in to one roller coaster of emotions. A young newly wed couple were driving from their home in Chattanooga, on their way to a honeymoon in Nashville, TN. Out of the corner of their eye while driving, they saw a truck pulled over and pushing this girl out onto the side of the road and then drive away. They owned two dogs of their own and it broke their heart to see such meanness. She was in a desperate situation. They pulled over and took her in to their car and then started making calls to shelters and rescues in the Nashville area where they were destined to arrive in a few hours.

Read more about Brittany

They got Critter Cavalry on the phone and we stepped up to take her in immediately and we would make sure she had a future family who would never do such a horrible thing as to abandon her. What we have found out with Brittany is that she is a happy and inviting girl who loves to play with other dogs and who loves to spoken to with kindness. She craves love which we are sure she got little of before. Her fav game is to chase a ball. She is young as in probably a year or 2 at the oldest and she weighs 26 pounds. She is being spayed 10/23 and has already started her shots and worming. She is picture perfect if you want a Beagle or small dog that is not tiny but resilient and fun and loving. We know she loves couches and dog company for playtime and hanging out. She’s housebroken and will definitely need a fenced yard to keep that Beagle nose safely within sight of your back door.

17. Buddy II

Adult (2 years 4 months) · Male · Pointer / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Buddy II is a courtesy listing, not in the AARF foster program, and we are posting online to help the owner find a home for them. Please visit http://aarf-tn.com/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply.

Read more about Buddy II

Buddy is a big, goofy sweetheart who will chase a ball all day long and then happily offer you his whole heart. This two and a half year old Lab/Pointer mix weighs about 52 pounds and has a pair of adorable brown eyes that make it hard to resist. He is happy, enthusiastic, and full of energy, and once he bonds with his person, he is a total love who wants to play, cuddle, and be best friends. He might even enjoy agility or flyball, since he could chase a ball from sunrise to sunset. He is learning fetch and give, and he already knows sit and shake. Working on "no jump" is in progress, and he is eager to learn with treats in hand.

Buddy is housetrained and can go several hours between potty breaks. He seems to have been crate trained at some point, and he stays calm in his crate at home and in the car. He walks nicely on a leash around the yard. His previous owner spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital, so Buddy spent many hours at home on his own and got used to relaxing on the furniture. He will need a little patience if the new family has different house rules.

Buddy gets nervous around other dogs and would be happiest as the only pet. He has lots of enthusiasm for new people and is a big boy, so he would do best with teens, older kids, or active adults who can handle his exuberant greetings. Sadly, Buddy was a much-loved pet whose owner recently passed away.

If you have the heart to help this goofball with a loving home, Buddy would love to meet you. Reach out to A.A.R.F. by text at 931-260-8018 or visit https://www.aarf-tn.com to start the application process.

18. Jewel

Adult (5 years 9 months) · Female · Siberian Husky / Australian Shepherd / Mixed (long coat)

Jewel is a courtesy listing, not in the AARF foster program, and we are posting online to help the owner find a home for her. Please visit http://aarf-tn.com/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply.

Read more about Jewel

Jewel treats every day like an adventure and every car ride like the best news she has heard all week. This happy, high-energy 5.5-year-old, 60 lb Australian Shepherd and Husky mix has a big personality and an even bigger love for life. She is happiest outdoors, running, exploring, and being part of whatever her people are doing, whether that means a ride in the car, a spot in the truck bed, or a trip to the park. She also has a sweet, snuggly side, and nothing makes her happier than climbing up for cuddles after a good play session.

Jewel is a smart girl who learns quickly. She knows sit, wait, belly (rolling over for belly rubs), turn, and a few fun tricks like orbit and around, and she is eager to work for her favorite peanut butter training treats. She is housetrained and has her own room where she settles in nicely. She is enthusiastic on the leash because it usually means an adventure is coming.

Jewel has a high play drive and a very enthusiastic style, so she does best with people who understand her energy and can offer structure and supervision. She has done well with larger dogs and with older kids around ten and up who know how to interact with an excited dog. Her ideal home is one without small children or small animals, where her playful spirit can shine and everyone feels comfortable. Her family has a new baby and she is just not fitting in with the new addition. The right home for Jewel is active and adventurous, with someone who enjoys training, exercise, and including her in everything. With consistency and plenty of love, she has so much potential to be an amazing companion.

If you are ready for a loyal, joyful girl who wants to be wherever you are, Jewel would love to meet you. Reach out to A.A.R.F. by text at 931-260-8018 or visit https://www.aarf-tn.com to start the application process.

20. Pluto

Young (7 months) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Pluto!

Pluto is a wiggly, cuddly ball of puppy energy who is ready to find a family to call her own! This girl loves nothing more than racing around the house with her foster brother, showing off her zoomies, and then snuggling up with her favorite people. And when it’s time to settle down? Pluto is an expert cuddler who loves to burrow under the covers and curl up right next to you. Personal space is apparently just a suggestion!

Read more about Pluto

Pluto absolutely adores children and currently lives with an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old, whom she loves to shower with affection. She also gets along well with other dogs and would love a canine friend who can keep up with her playful puppy antics.

Pluto has spent her life living outdoors, so she’s still figuring out the whole indoor-dog thing. She’s making progress with potty training and crate training, learning which toys are appropriate for chewing (with so many tempting kid and cat toys around, can you really blame her?), and working on respecting personal space. She’s still a young dog with plenty to learn, so she’ll need a family willing to offer patience, consistency, and lots of positive reinforcement as she learns the ropes.

Pluto has also been exposed to lots of cats, but she hasn’t quite figured out that not everyone wants to play with her! When the cats hiss or run away, Pluto thinks they’re joining in on the fun and is ready to keep the party going. She isn’t aggressive toward them; she just has a lot of puppy enthusiasm and hasn’t learned to read feline social cues yet. A cat-free home would likely be the easiest fit for this energetic girl.

If you’re looking for a happy, affectionate, slightly goofy young dog who will keep you laughing, join you for playtime, and snuggle under the covers at the end of the day, Pluto might just be your girl! She’s still learning how to be the best indoor pup she can be, and with the right family, she has so much potential to blossom.

21. Professor Knox

Adult · Male · Doberman Pinscher (short coat)

Professor Knox.... my oh my what a beautiful soul this Doberman is!!! What you feel from Knox when you meet him is hope and an energy that he wants to learn and grow in to a phenomenal Doberman. Born on Christmas Day of 2025 this sweet puppy had all the hope in the world of a great life ahead. Somehow the stable future got sidetracked and he was not treated well in his first adoptive home. What happened next was a kind young couple heard of his plight and need for a new place and eagerly took him home without doing all the homework on the needs of a smart Doberman. They could not give him the big fenced yard and the time that a Doberman of his caliber needs. They have tried to be what he needs but they realize he needs so much more. With love they are asking Critter Cavalry Rescue to help them find his forever home soon but with much scrutiny. This 70 pound boy at just 10 months must not be placed in hands that are not capable and knowledgeable of the breed. Professor Knox is a sweet soul that has no aggression or fear. He is still so innocent in his time to learn and a sponge to be shaped and molded in to greatness. Professor Knox is a boy that needs more time out and about in the world so that he can be a great Ambassador for his breed. He loves cats and has his "own" cat in this second home that he is in now. He needs a dog to play with . The current dogs in his home are old and over the excitement of youth. Knox deserves a youthful playmate. He is housebroken, crate trained and knows how to manage a doggie door. Professor is a lover and not a fighter but if someone he does not know comes to the house and he greets them, he will stand between the visitor and his owner. Natural Doberman character. He is truly not leash savvy at all. He will need a new owner to train him on that and perhaps a harness will work best. He is not a chewer but he will gather things from around the house and put in his dog bed. This boy has the nature of a protector and a lover. A smart dog that is the best of his breed. He is still young and learning and we want a Doberman savvy family to adopt him and polish his nature talents to the fullest shine!!!!

If you have a fenced yard, time, experience and love for the Doberman breed, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com Professor Knox is ready for the new forever chapter of his life to begin. Adult · Male · Australian Shepherd / Mixed (long coat)

Our handsome boy Reese is an Australian Aussie mix boy who is approximately a year and a half old, weighs 38 pounds, and is fully vetted—he is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, and heartworm negative. Reese has a friendly, easygoing temperament and gets along wonderfully with everyone, including children of all ages, other dogs, and even the cats. He is definitely a rare Australian Shepherd who does not display the usual alpha temperament that most males of his breed do. He is a happy boy that delights in going for car rides and going for walks with his person. We do ask that his new forever home have a secured and fenced yard. It is best for his breed who loves to explore and be active. We think that he is ideal for a first time dog owner, families with children over 5 years of age and certainly singles who want an adventure buddy in life. He can fit right in to so many different family lifestyles.

25. Jack

Adult · Male · Poodle (Standard) (medium coat)

Jack is a handsome 5 year-old, 60 lbs black Standard Poodle who is finally getting the opportunity to discover what it means to be part of a family. Originally his life started off being purchased as a puppy for one purpose — to be a breeding dog. He was never given the chance to live inside, curl up beside his people, learn the routines of a household or simply be someone's companion. He spent his years outside in a small pen and requured to father many puppies. He never got to experience the life that a dog like Jack deserves. Now that chapter is behind him, and we are so excited about what comes next.

Read more about Jack

Jack is incredibly loving, affectionate and smart. He has a wonderful temperament and truly enjoys people. There is a sweetness to him that makes it easy to imagine just how much he is going to blossom once he realizes that being someone's dog means so much more than simply being cared for. Although Jack has never lived inside, he is already showing us some very promising signs. He has been doing remarkably well with keeping his kennel clean, giving us a wonderful foundation as he learns house manners. And with the intelligence Standard Poodles are known for, we expect Jack to be a very willing student once he understands what is being asked of him. There will be plenty of new things for Jack to discover — household sounds, doors, furniture, routines and all the little parts of family life he has never experienced. He may need patience and guidance along the way, but he has everything we could hope for in a dog beginning this journey: intelligence, affection, a gentle nature and an enormous capacity to love. We can't help but think that Jack is going to be absolutely amazed by his new life with a family. A warm bed, a family to follow from room to room and someone who wants him beside them simply because they love him. The freedom to finally be a companion instead of a breeding dog. Jack has spent five years waiting for the opportunity to be someone's beloved family member. Now it's finally his turn. And we have a feeling this incredibly sweet, intelligent boy is going to be amazing at it. THIS BOY IS GORGEOUS!! He's also a goof ball!
BIO: Winston came from a severe hoarding situation where he was locked in a kennel with three inches of waste. Considering everything he has been through, he’s a friendly boy that loves people (once he warms up within minutes) and toys. He will also play with other small dogs but is also fine with bigger dogs as well.
His only issue is he does have some separation anxiety so he would need to be crated should you leave the house. We think that’s why it’s important to have another dog in the household and you to know how to help him over his anxiety. This boy is so worth the effort. He’s a happy and loving boy and would be great with several children over the age of 8 yrs. Younger than that he might knock them over in his joy of playing or just happy to be a part of a family. 27. Puppy Winnie

Puppy · Female · Hound / Border Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Some puppies are simply easy to picture in your life, and beautiful Winnie is one of those special girl puppies. Can you picture a happy little face following you into the backyard, chasing a ball, exploring every corner, and then coming back to you because being near her people is really the best part? That is Winnie. She is playful without being wild, curious without being reckless, and affectionate without needing to be glued to you every second. She is a puppy who wants to be involved in life with her family.Winnie was born July 11 as one of twelve puppies to a beautiful red, scruffy Border Terrier mix mama.

Read more about Puppy Winnie

She has been raised in a wonderful foster environment surrounded by children, other dogs, and adults who have handled, cuddled, and socialized her from the beginning. Those early experiences have helped Winnie become a confident, loving puppy who is ready to continue learning with her forever family. We think Winnie will be an especially wonderful fit for a family who enjoys being together and wants a dog who can grow up alongside them. She would love a fenced yard for those backyard adventures, a family willing to play fetch and teach her new things, and people who will appreciate her sweet, thoughtful nature. She is smart and eager to learn, so a family who enjoys training and watching a puppy discover her talents will have a lot of fun with her.Winnie is expected to grow into a beautiful 45–50 pound girl with a short coat. She is still very much a puppy, which means she is also in the “everything goes in my mouth” phase. Fingers are currently competing with chew toys for her attention, so we feel older children, 10+, would be the best fit. She will need patient adults who can give her consistent guidance and redirect that puppy enthusiasm toward appropriate toys. But underneath those puppy teeth is a girl with an enormous capacity to love. Winnie is thoughtful, affectionate, playful, and wonderfully curious. She is going to be the kind of dog who learns your routines, knows when it is time to play and when it is time to settle down, and eventually becomes the companion who seems to have always belonged there. If you are looking for a puppy who can be your backyard playmate, your adventure buddy, your student, your shadow, and eventually your best friend, Winnie may be exactly the girl you have been waiting for.Contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com

At about 14 months old and 16 pounds, Gidget is a Chihuahua / Terrier mix with a moderate energy level. She enjoys peaceful walks, a little playtime indoors, and finding a sunny spot to soak up some warmth. She also likes her Kong, puzzle toys, and tossing a tennis ball around. She is food motivated and clever, making her a fun little student for a family ready to help her learn. Gidget does well with a consistent potty schedule and has been trusted to roam the house without chewing or making a mess. Her crate is her cozy retreat, and she often chooses to go there on her own. She walks nicely on leash and frequently looks to her person for guidance. New experiences can make her nervous, especially large dogs and some men, so she will need patient introductions and a calm approach. When frightened, she may try to pull away, making secure equipment and a fenced yard or leashed outings especially important. Gidget currently lives happily with the resident cat. She would likely be best in a quieter home with people who enjoy daily walks and understand that building trust takes time. She has so much potential, and the family who gives her patience and encouragement will get to watch her confidence blossom. If you have a peaceful home and a little extra love to help Gidget discover how wonderful life can be, reach out to A.A.R.F. by text at 931-260-8018 or visit https://www.aarf-tn.com to start the application process.

29. Ghost Girl

Adult · Female · Australian Shepherd / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Ghost Girl❤️ Ghost Girl is a sweet, silly, incredibly affectionate girl whose favorite place in the world is right next to her person. This Aussie/Cattle Mix girl is 2.5 years and weighs 30-35 pounds and she is the definition of a Velcro dog—she loves cuddling, being held, getting pets, and following her favorite humans from room to room. If you’re looking for a dog who truly wants to be your best friend, Ghost is your girl!
She has the cutest goofy side, too. Ghost loves running around the yard, playing chase, getting the zoomies, and doing her little spins when she gets excited. She’s also VERY treat motivated and will happily work for snacks!
Ghost is house trained and crate trained and would absolutely love a home with a secure fenced yard.

Read more about Ghost Girl

She’s much more of a backyard-zoomies girl than a long-walk girl—the busy outside world can sometimes be a little overwhelming for her, and she’s happiest running and playing somewhere familiar and secure.
Ghost would love to be your one-and-only pet and soak up all the attention for herself. Other dogs can make her uncomfortable, so a home where she doesn’t have to share her space with other animals will allow her to relax and be her happiest self.
She has lived with a toddler and newborn and absolutely adores her little humans. She has been incredibly loving and gentle with them. When meeting children she doesn’t know, she appreciates a calmer introduction rather than lots of excitement all at once, so a quieter home or one with older children would be a great fit. She also would do best as the only dog in the family and not sharing any spotlight with others. More than anything, Ghost wants her person. Give her a safe yard to run in, plenty of treats, a comfy place to cuddle, and someone to follow around all day, and she’ll give you an incredible amount of love in return. ❤️
Ghost is looking for someone who wants a loyal little shadow, professional cuddle buddy, backyard zoomie champion, and best friend all rolled into one. Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.

30. Puppy Teddie

Puppy · Male · Hound / Mixed (short coat)

Teddie — A Little Explorer With a Big Heart Some puppies are perfectly content to sit back and watch the world go by. Teddie is not one of those puppies! Teddie came into this world as one of Biscuit’s very special 12 puppies. His momma was found as a stray living in the woods and trying to survive by eating from neighborhood garbage cans. Thankfully, a kind family took her in during the middle of May, only to discover that she was expecting a very big family of her own. On July 11th, Biscuit gave birth to 12 puppies, and foster mom Celeste took an entire month off from work to make sure their new little family had everything they needed.

Now Teddie is ready to take his next adventure—finding his forever family. This boy is smart, curious and always ready to see what’s happening next. He loves to run, explore and investigate his surroundings, and you can almost see the wheels turning in his head as he discovers something new. He is the puppy who will happily follow you on an adventure and make sure he doesn’t miss a thing. But after all that exploring, Teddie has another favorite activity: being held like a baby. That’s when his softer side comes out. Once he has had enough running and playing, he is perfectly happy to curl up in your arms and soak up some love. There’s something pretty irresistible about a puppy who can go from little adventurer to cuddle bug in a matter of minutes. Teddie is expected to grow to around 45 pounds, making him a wonderful medium-sized companion when he is all grown up. He is already turning heads with his handsome black and tan tri-color coat—and those eyes! Just look at them. They have a way of making you feel like he is looking straight into your heart. Teddie has the intelligence to keep you entertained, the curiosity to keep life interesting and the affectionate nature to make you wonder how you ever lived without him. He is expected to do well with dogs, cats and children, making him the kind of puppy who could fit beautifully into many different types of families. His life began with a momma who was simply trying to survive. Now Teddie has the chance to grow up knowing something very different: what it feels like to be safe, cherished and completely loved. He’s ready for his forever adventure. Maybe it’s one that starts with you.

Adopting a dog in Wilson County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
