1. Duke

Adult · Male · Rottweiler (short coat) · 14 mi from San Antonio

Looking for a fabulous family dog? Look no further, DUKE is your dude!!! Seriously this is a great family pet who loves kids and his people. We are in disbelief at his cool and calm temperament, soooo cool and calm. He has been tested around some dogs that are dog reactive and bark, bark, bark. DUKE never flinches or acknowledges they are even there, they get in his face and DUKE just turns around and goes in the other direction.
DUKE is 4 years old and 80 pounds, a few pounds underweight but he is making up for it. DUKE was found in a subdivision next to his own subdivision. He is microchipped and every attempt was made to reach his family by social media, phone, text and even visited his home but they would not respond.

Read more about Duke

So we are like okay let us see why they no longer want DUKE. But DUKE is perfect really a perfect pet. In several weeks we have not found any faults except he just loves to hang with his humans and that is a great fault.
He is not aggressive in any area and do not resource guard things or humans and of course he gets along with everyone. He had a growth on his eye that has been removed and that is why his right eye looks a little hinky. He is healthy in all areas, walks great on a leash without pulling, just walks right beside you at your pace and he rides in a car without getting sick, jumps right in.
If you want to spend your days hanging out with a happy companion pet, DUKE is your guy. If you are interested in adopting DUKE, please submit an application on the website below or contact his foster mom. Thank you.

2. Amanda

Adult · Female · Poodle (Standard) (medium coat) · 14 mi from San Antonio

AMANDA is a beautiful AKC Registered Parti-Poodle, Standard. She is 5 years old and 50 pounds. This is a very well behaved dog who walks great on a leash and rides in the car without getting sick, she just looks out of the window. My 10 year old granddaughter was able to handle her on a daily basis with ease.
AMANDA lost her human mom and was rehomed along with her sister to people who just did not want to care for her so they surrendered her to our organization.
She makes a great companion and gets along with larger dogs but she should not be in a home with smaller breed dogs, other than that she plays very well with medium and large breed dogs.

I do not have any cats in my home so I do not know how she would react to them.
These pictures do not show how beautiful and kind hearted she is. I will try to take more that show how amazing she is.

4. Noodles

Adult · Male · Poodle (Standard) / Mixed (medium coat) · 14 mi from San Antonio

This very mellow fellow is the greatest mild mannered companion you would want. He knows all of his commands and very smart to learn more. NOODLES is 2 years old and 55 pounds. He was abandoned in a city park by his owners and they must have loved him at one point and spent a lot of time with him because he is very into his humans, knows commands and well behaved. Unfortunately he was very matted and needed to be shaved down to make him feel better instead of properly groomed.
He walks very well on a leash and rides in the car without getting sick. He is not high energy but he really enjoys going on walks and he does not pull the leash.

One of the pictures is what he looked like when found and before he was groomed.
NOODLES is a doodle and can be mistaken for a pure breed Standard Poodle. He is crate trained and house trained.

7. Kota

Young · Male · Labrador Retriever / German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) · 9 mi from San Antonio

Welcome Kota to CCPAL Rescue. Kota is a 1-year-old and weighs 65 pounds. He is smart, social and outgoing. He is the most active of the two in the litter. He is a bit more shy than his brother Tug. He would do great with an active and outdoorsy family wanting a companion that has the stamina and energy to go with you. He got lots of time being held as a puppy so he does love people. Our kennel staff love Kota and he is really doing good with his leash training. He will sit and makes good eye contact. His breed is Lab/German Shepherd. These were in foster care until they were vaccinated and ready to come to the rescue.

Read more about Kota

They have had lots of attention from humans which is wonderful. It creates a wonderful puppy that loves humans and their attention. These puppies are smart, soft coats and most have the lab personality with the smartness of the Malinois. Kota is a smart boy and would be great dog for a man. He would love good direction and someone that is confident. This would allow Kota to let his owner be in charge. Both dogs would be great family pets. They can go with children and should be good with them. We like the children to be 8 or older. Young dogs are best with people that are home some and not gone 8 hours every day to work. Tug will need to finish up his training, and it would be best if he gets to spend time with his human so he can bond deeply with them. He does not mess up his kennel and goes in his outside kennel to go to the bathroom. Kota is playing in his play group of 6 puppies. The boys are all bigger than the girls. He also gets to play outside in his play group and does well in a group. He has good recall when he is off leash and likes treats. These puppies have webbed feet and should be good swimmers. He is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the east Coast. His adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. 9. Hunter

Adult · Rottweiler (medium coat) · 14 mi from San Antonio

Say hello to HUNTER, a 90 pounds big ole playful and happy guy, really he is so happy and loves to play with the other dogs. HUNTER can be submissive believe it or not with his big self. But sometimes when the other dogs play too rough, HUNTER retreats away from the rough housing.
HUNTER is 5 years old and previously owned but somehow ended up on the streets of San Antonio, TX and picked up as a stray landing him in our city's very high-kill shelter. His owners did not come for him, sad. But we hope to make HUNTER have a happy ending by finding him a loving home he can relax in. He is very mellow and so obedient.
He is healthy and had a few teeth that needed to be removed that made his jaw swollen and look crooked.

Actually he still has a front tooth that sticks out and just makes him unique looking. HUNTER would make a great family pet and he is a true Rottweiler who thinks he is a lap dog.

10. Buttercup

Adult · Rottweiler · 14 mi from San Antonio

BUTTERCUP has been waiting for a home way too long to be such a smooth and friendly and playful girl. She gets along with all of the dogs and plays nicely, she is obedient and easy to train. Right now she does not know any commands except "sit & off". The only exposure she has had with cats is the outdoor cats that pass by, she is curious about them but has no aggression towards them.
BUTTERCUP is 2 years old and weighs 75 pounds and originally was picked up from the streets of San Antonio, TX and ended up in our very high-kill shelter. We rescued her from a sure death because as you know her breed is considered a bully breed. A bully she is NOT, just a playful 2 year old who wants to have fun and enjoys walking. She does not get car sick.

Adopting a large dog in San Antonio

Large dogs need room to stretch out and plenty of exercise: at least one good walk a day, and a secure yard is a bonus. Check your lease too, as some landlords limit the size or breed of dog.

Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
