1. Flaco

Adult (2 years) · Male · Belgian Shepherd Malinois (medium coat)

Hi, I’m Flaco, and I’m looking for my forever home... again.

My name is Flaco, and I’m a handsome, approximately 2-year-old Belgian Malinois mix with a heart that’s every bit as big as my ears. Life hasn’t always gone exactly as planned for me, but I’m hoping my next chapter will be the one that lasts forever.

Read more about Flaco

Just over a year ago, my brother and I were found wandering the streets of Yuma as strays. Nobody came looking for us, and we weren’t sure what the future would hold. Thankfully, we were rescued by the wonderful people at Central Arizona Animal Rescue. They gave us safety, food, love, and a chance to find families of our own. Before long, both my brother and I were adopted, and it seemed like our happy ending had arrived.

Recently, though, I found myself back at the rescue.

My family welcomed a new baby, and as their lives became busier, they decided they no longer had enough time for me. While it was hard to lose my home, everyone at the rescue has reminded me that this isn't the end of my story. It’s simply a detour on the road to finding the family that’s truly meant for me.

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I absolutely love people. Whether we're going for a walk, hanging out in the yard, watching television, or just relaxing together, I’m happiest when I’m near my humans. I’m not looking for anything extravagant. Honestly, I just want to be part of your life.

I also enjoy the company of other dogs. I get along well with little dogs and dogs my own size, and I love having canine friends to spend time with. If your home already has a dog looking for a buddy, there’s a good chance we could become best friends. As for cats, my rescue friends just haven’t had the opportunity to test me with them yet, so that remains a mystery.

I’m told I’m house-trained, which means I understand that outside is the place to take care of business. I also know some commands and have already learned some good manners. Like many young dogs, I would love continued training and guidance. The good news is that I’m smart and eager to learn.

Speaking of smart, let’s talk a little about my breed. Belgian Malinois are known for their intelligence, loyalty, athleticism, and strong bonds with their people. We are often chosen for police work, search-and-rescue, service work, and other demanding jobs because we love having a purpose and enjoy learning new things. While I certainly have that classic Malinois intelligence, I’m also an incredibly sweet and social guy who simply enjoys being around people and canine companions. I would thrive with an active family that can include me in daily adventures, give me exercise, and continue helping me be the very best dog I can be.

What I’m really searching for is someone who won’t see me as a temporary part of their life. I want a family that understands dogs are forever. A family that will celebrate the good times, help me through the challenges, and let me spend every day knowing I belong.

I’ve already been through being lost once. I’ve already experienced coming back to rescue through no fault of my own. Now I’m ready for the happy ending I’ve been dreaming about.

Could that happy ending be with you?

If you’re looking for a loyal companion, a smart and affectionate best friend, and a dog who is ready to shower you with love and gratitude, I’d love to meet you.

To schedule an appointment to meet me, please email Central Arizona Animal Rescue at mike@caaronline.org.

I’ll be waiting with a wagging tail, hopeful eyes, and my heart wide open for the family that finally says, “Flaco, you’re home.” ❤️

2. Dusty

Young (8 months) · Chihuahua / Pug / Mixed (short coat)

Hi, My Name Is Dusty, and I'm Looking for My Forever Family

Hello there! My name is Dusty, and I'm a little Chihuahua mix with a big heart and an even bigger hope that my forever family is reading this right now.

Read more about Dusty

My story didn't start out the way every puppy deserves. I came to Central Arizona Animal Rescue along with my five sisters after being surrendered from a difficult situation. We weren't the only puppies there. We were told another litter of six puppies had already been given away at a gas station without vaccinations, microchips, spay or neuter surgeries, or any of the things that help keep dogs healthy and safe. There are reportedly even more older dogs still living in the home who haven't been fixed either. The humans at the rescue say this is what happens when animals don't receive proper medical care and responsible ownership. They were also told the owner has struggled with drug abuse, which made it even harder for all the dogs in the home to get the care they needed.

But enough about my past. I'd rather tell you about who I am today.

I'm a happy little guy who loves people, especially kids! I was raised around children and think they're pretty wonderful. Whether it's playing in the yard, snuggling on the couch, or following them around to see what adventure comes next, I'm always happy to be part of the fun.

I also have a special soft spot for adult women. They make me feel safe and comfortable. Adult men? Well, I'm still working on that. I don't dislike them at all, but sometimes I can be a little suspicious when I first meet one. Can you blame me? My early life didn't always show me that every human could be trusted. The good news is that I'm learning every day, and with patience, kindness, and a few treats, I warm up nicely.

The wonderful people at Central Arizona Animal Rescue have worked hard to give me a fresh start. I've been neutered, so I won't be contributing to the cycle of unwanted litters. I've also been vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. For the first time in my life, I'm getting the care every dog deserves.

My sisters are safe too. The rescue is working to get all five of them spayed as soon as time becomes available with their very busy veterinarian. The rescue is doing everything it can, but resources and space are limited.

That's why finding homes for dogs like me is so important.

When you adopt me, you're not just changing my life. You're helping create room for the rescue to save more dogs from situations like the one I came from. Every kennel that opens up gives another dog a chance at safety, medical care, and a better future. The rescue hopes to help as many animals as possible before the situation grows even larger and even more dogs are left without proper care.

And here's something important: even if a Chihuahua mix like me isn't exactly what you're looking for, adopting any dog from Central Arizona Animal Rescue helps. Every adoption opens a space and allows the rescue to continue helping animals in need.

So, what do you think? Could you be the family I've been dreaming about? I promise to bring love, loyalty, smiles, and plenty of Chihuahua-sized personality into your home.

If you'd like to meet me, Dusty, or any of the other wonderful dogs at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, please email mike@caaronline.org to schedule an appointment.

I'm ready for my second chance.

Maybe it's with you.

Love, Dusty

3. Porkchop

Young (7 months) · Male · Mastiff / Mixed (medium coat)

“Hi, I’m Porkchop… and I’m Ready for My Real Forever Family.”

From the heart of Porkchop himself

Hi there. My name is Porkchop, and yes—I know it’s a funny name. Everyone laughs when they hear it, and honestly, I kind of like that. I’m an 8‑month‑old mastiff mix, which means I’m a big boy with an even bigger heart. I didn’t have the easiest start in life, but I’m hoping the next part of my story is the one where I finally find the family who sees me as perfect just the way I am.

Read more about Porkchop

I was rescued when I was about four months old, standing on the side of the road with my brother. Someone was giving away puppies like we were old furniture, and one of the volunteers from Central Arizona Animal Rescue saw us and knew we needed help. I had never been to a vet, never had any puppy shots, never had anyone making sure I was safe. But that changed fast. They scooped us up, brought us in, and gave us everything we needed—vaccinations, a microchip, and eventually I was neutered. For the first time, I felt like someone cared about me.

After a little while, I got adopted. I thought that was it—I thought I had found my forever home. But after a couple of months, they brought me back. They said I was “too big.” I didn’t understand. I didn’t do anything wrong. I just grew, the way puppies do. I tried to be good, but nobody taught me how. They didn’t work with me on leash manners, so yes… I pull when I walk. And sometimes I get excited and jump up because I want attention so badly. I’m not trying to be naughty—I just didn’t have anyone showing me the rules.

So here I am again, waiting. Hoping. I’m still the same sweet boy I was the day I left, just a little older and a lot more ready to learn. I need someone who will set boundaries, teach me gently, and help me understand how to be a polite, well‑mannered dog. I’m smart, I’m eager, and I really do want to make you proud. I just need a person who won’t give up on me.

My previous owners said I am house trained, which is a pretty great start. And I’m good with other dogs, too. I like having friends. I like being part of a group. I like feeling like I belong. I’m a big, strong puppy, but inside I’m just a soft, goofy boy who wants to be loved. I adore people. I lean in for pets, I wag my whole body, and I melt when someone scratches behind my ears. I’m happiest when I’m close to someone who cares.

If you’re looking for a dog who will grow into a loyal, loving companion… someone who will follow you around, keep you company, and make you laugh with his silly mastiff expressions… I might be your guy. I’m still learning, but I promise I’m worth the effort. I’ll give you everything I have—my trust, my affection, my big goofy smile—if you give me a chance.

If you’d like to meet me, the rescue says you can email mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment. I’ll be waiting, hoping the next person who comes to see me is the one who finally says, “Porkchop, you’re home.”

Love, Porkchop

4. Crews

Adult (1 year 7 months) · Male · German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat)

“Hi, I’m Crews… and I’ve been waiting for my person.”

From the heart of Crews himself

Hi there. My name is Crews, and if you’ve got a minute, I’d really like to tell you my story. I’m a German Shepherd mix, mostly shepherd through and through—smart, loyal, eager, and full of heart. I’m about a year and a half old, still young enough to be playful and goofy, but old enough to know that what I want most in the world is a person of my own.

Read more about Crews

Back in July, I was picked up as a stray. I didn’t know where I was supposed to go or who I belonged to. I kept hoping someone would come for me, someone who recognized me and called my name. But the days passed, then the weeks, and nobody ever showed up. I stayed at the pound all the way until September, watching other dogs leave with their families while I waited and wondered if anyone even remembered me.

Then something changed. One of the staff members there saw something in me—maybe my big shepherd eyes, maybe the way I pressed myself against the kennel door hoping for attention—and they reached out to Central Arizona Animal Rescue. They said I deserved a chance. And now I’m here, safe, cared for, and finally able to hope again.

I share my kennel with a female dog, and we get along just fine. I’m polite, friendly, and I don’t try to be the boss. But if I’m being honest… I’d rather be with people. I love people. I love attention. I love being close enough to lean into you and feel your hand on my head. Sometimes I get so excited that I forget my manners and try to jump up to get closer. I’m not trying to be rude—I just want to be loved. I’m learning, though. The humans here remind me that jumping isn’t polite unless I’m invited, and I’m getting better every day. I’m a shepherd, after all. We’re smart. We catch on quickly.

I’ve been neutered, I’m current on all my vaccinations, and I’ve been microchipped, so I’ll never be lost again. That part means a lot to me. After everything I’ve been through, knowing I’ll always be able to find my way home is a big comfort.

What I want now is simple: a family who sees me for who I am. I’m energetic, affectionate, and full of potential. I want someone who will help me finish learning my manners, someone who enjoys a dog who wants to be right by their side. I’d love walks, training sessions, car rides, yard time, or just hanging out while you do your thing. I don’t need perfection—I just need you.

If you’re looking for a dog who will adore you, who will try his hardest, who will grow into an incredible companion with just a little guidance, I think we might be a perfect match. I’ve waited a long time for someone to choose me. Maybe you’re the one I’ve been waiting for.

If you’d like to meet me, the rescue says you can email mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment. I’ll be here, tail wagging, hoping today is the day my forever person finally walks through the door.

Love, Crews

5. Taylon

Adult (2 years) · Male · Belgian Shepherd Malinois (medium coat)

Meet Taylon: A Quiet Survivor Searching for a Patient Forever Home

Hello, my name is Taylon, and I'm a Belgian Malinois with a story that isn't easy to tell. I'm looking for a special person who understands that some dogs need a little extra time, a little extra patience, and a lot of understanding before they can fully trust again.

Like my brother Max, my life changed forever when our owner was unexpectedly deported. He wasn't able to tell anyone that my brother, our two sisters, and I were still living inside his trailer. We were left alone for more than a week without food or water, waiting for someone to come.

Read more about Taylon

Eventually, our owner was able to make a call and let someone know about us. When Animal Control finally arrived, it was too late for our two sisters. They didn't survive. Max and I were the only ones who made it out alive.

The experience left scars that aren't always easy to see.

When we were rescued and taken to safety, I was in terrible condition. I had spent so long fighting to survive that trusting people wasn't something that came naturally anymore. The world had shown me some hard lessons, and I became cautious about everyone around me.

Today, I'm healthy and safe, but I'm still learning that humans can be trusted.

I'm a bigger boy than my brother Max, and while he's become a fan of attention and belly rubs, I'm a little more reserved. I don't immediately seek out affection, and I'm not the kind of dog who wants constant petting from everyone I meet. In fact, I'm still figuring out how to be comfortable with physical affection at all. That's why I need someone who will allow me to move at my own pace and won't expect me to become a cuddly best friend overnight.

The people caring for me have seen how far I've come. They've watched me learn to relax, accept treats, enjoy routines, and slowly open up to the humans who have earned my trust. Every day I take another small step forward.

One thing I do know is that I love feeling safe.

Like Max, I haven't been tested with small dogs or cats, so we can't say for certain how I would react to them. Any introductions would need to be handled carefully and responsibly.

What I really need is someone who understands dogs like me. Someone who sees beyond my hesitation and understands that my caution isn't stubbornness or aggression. It's simply the result of surviving circumstances no dog should ever have to endure.

I may never be the dog that rushes up to strangers demanding attention. I may never be the life of the party. But for the person willing to invest the time and patience, I have something much more meaningful to offer: genuine trust that has been earned, not given away freely.

The day I choose you as my person will be a day you'll never forget.

I'm current on all of my vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. Physically, I'm ready for my forever home. Emotionally, I'm ready for someone who will continue helping me build confidence and discover what it truly means to be loved.

If you believe that every dog deserves a second chance, and if you have the patience to let a survivor blossom in his own time, I would love the opportunity to meet you.

Some dogs are easy from day one.

Dogs like me are worth the journey.

To schedule an appointment to meet Taylon, please email:
mike@caaronline.org

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I've survived heartbreak, loss, and uncertainty. Now I'm hoping to find the one thing I've never truly had:

A forever home.

Love,
Taylon

6. Max

Adult (2 years) · Male · Belgian Shepherd Malinois (medium coat)

Meet Max: A Survivor Looking for His Forever Home

Hello, my name is Max, and I'm a handsome male Belgian Malinois looking for a second chance at the life every dog deserves. I may not come with a perfect past, but I come with a big heart, a resilient spirit, and a lot of love to give the right person.

My story didn't start out easy.

Read more about Max

I once lived in a trailer with my owner, my brother Taylon, and our two sisters. One day, our owner was unexpectedly picked up and deported. He wasn't given the opportunity to tell anyone that we were still inside the trailer. For more than a week, we were left alone without food or water, waiting for help that didn't come soon enough.

Eventually, our owner was able to make a phone call and let someone know about us. Animal Control was finally notified and came to rescue us. But by the time they arrived, our two sisters had already passed away. Only Taylon and I survived.

It's something no dog should ever have to go through.

When I was taken to the pound, I was in rough shape physically and emotionally. I had learned that the world could be scary, and I wasn't sure who I could trust. I became very suspicious of people, especially strangers. The humans caring for me now understood that healing takes time, patience, and kindness. They never gave up on me, and little by little I've started to learn that not every hand reaches out to hurt or abandon.

Today, I'm doing so much better.

Once I get to know you, I'm a sweet and affectionate guy. I absolutely love a good butt scratch and tummy rub from the people I trust. If you're looking for a dog who appreciates the simple things in life, you'll fit right in with me. Want to know the quickest way to become my friend? Bring a hot dog! I am a huge fan and will happily tell you all about it with my wagging tail.

I've also been sharing my kennel with a female German Shepherd, and we get along great. Having a canine companion around has helped me build confidence and reminds me that life can still be good. Because of my history, we aren't sure how I would do with small dogs or cats, so any introductions to other pets would need to be handled carefully and thoughtfully.

I've found that I tend to be more comfortable around men than women, although I continue to make progress every day. What I really need is someone who understands that trust is earned and that some of us survivors need a little extra time before we fully open our hearts.

The good news is that I'm ready for my next chapter. I'm current on all my vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. All the important vet work has been done. Now the only thing missing is a family of my own.

I dream about having a safe place to call home. A place where I never have to wonder where my next meal is coming from. A place where I can relax, enjoy belly rubs, chase toys, eat the occasional hot dog, and spend my days with someone who sees not just where I've been, but where I'm going.

I am not looking for pity. I am looking for a partner, a best friend, and a forever family.

If you think you might be that person, I would love the chance to meet you.

To schedule an appointment to meet Max, please email:
mike@caaronline.org

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I've survived the worst life had to throw at me. Now I'm hoping for the best.

Love,
Max

7. Chip

Adult (1 year 5 months) · Male · Unknown breed

Well… hello. My name is Chipotle, but everyone here just calls me Chip, and honestly, I like that better. It feels friendly, simple, and safe—kind of like the life I’m hoping to find next. I’m a young guy, somewhere between one and two years old, and only about 25 pounds, so I’m the perfect size for just about any home. Not too big, not too tiny… just Chip-sized.

Read more about Chip

I came from Yuma, Arizona, wandering around as a stray with no idea what to do or where to go. I kept hoping someone would recognize me, call my name, or come looking—but nobody ever did. That part was hard. It’s scary being small in a big world, especially when you don’t know what’s going to happen next.

But then the folks at Central Arizona Animal Rescue stepped in. They scooped me up, gave me a soft place to sleep, and told me I was safe now. I didn’t believe them at first. I was pretty scared—the kind of scared where you freeze up and don’t know who to trust. But little by little, I’ve started to settle in. Turns out the world isn’t quite as frightening when people are kind to you.

I’ve been neutered, I’m current on all my vaccinations, and I’ve been microchipped, so I’ll never be lost again. That part makes me feel better than you might think. Knowing someone will always be able to find me… that’s a big deal for a dog who used to have no one.

Right now, I share my kennel with two other dogs—one about my size and one who’s bigger. And guess what? We get along just fine. I’m polite, gentle, and I don’t try to be the boss. I’m the kind of dog who watches first, thinks second, and acts third. So if you already have dogs at home, I’d probably fit right in. As for cats or small children, well… I just don’t know yet. Nobody here has seen me around them, so we can’t say for sure. But I’m a sweet boy, and I try hard to be good.

I’m still learning how to be brave. New things can make me pause, and loud noises or sudden movements sometimes make me shrink back a little. But every day I get a bit more confident. Every day I learn that hands can be gentle, voices can be kind, and people can be safe. I’m not a bold, fearless dog—not yet—but I’m becoming a hopeful one.

What I really want is a family who sees me for who I am: a young dog with a soft heart, a gentle spirit, and a whole lot of love waiting to be given. I don’t need anything fancy. I don’t need a big yard or constant adventure. I just need someone patient, someone kind, someone who will let me blossom at my own pace. I’d love quiet evenings, soft blankets, calm voices, and the feeling of belonging. I’d love walks, treats, and learning new things. Mostly, I’d love you.

If you think you might be the person who can help me grow into the confident, happy dog I’m meant to be, I’d really like to meet you. The rescue folks say all you have to do is send an email to mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment.

I’ll be waiting—tail tucked at first, but ready to wag once I know you’re my person.

8. Oliver

Young (1 year) · Male · Airedale Terrier (short coat)

Hello, future family! My name is Oliver, and I'm an Airedale Terrier with a big personality, a big heart, and, if I'm being completely honest, some pretty big opinions too. I figured I'd introduce myself personally because I have a lot to say, and I don't like letting other people tell my story when I can tell it myself.

I'm a young guy, less than a year old, which means I've got all the enthusiasm, curiosity, and excitement you'd expect from a teenage dog. I'm also neutered, current on all my vaccinations, and microchipped, so I'm ready to pack my bags and head straight to my forever home.

Read more about Oliver

My journey hasn't exactly gone according to plan so far. I was picked up as a stray in Yuma, and somehow I ended up here at Central Arizona Animal Rescue. Everyone here has been wonderful, but what I really want is a family of my own. A couch to supervise. A yard to patrol. A human or two to keep in line. You know, the important stuff.

If you've never met an Airedale Terrier before, let me tell you a little about my breed. We're often called the "King of Terriers" because we're the largest of all the terrier breeds. Airedales are known for being intelligent, loyal, energetic, and full of character. We were originally bred in England to be versatile working dogs, and that spirit still runs through our veins today. We love adventures, learning new things, exploring the world, and being involved in whatever our families are doing.

Now, when people say Airedales are intelligent, what they really mean is that we're smart enough to have our own ideas about how things should be done. That's certainly true in my case. I have an opinion on just about everything. Is it time for breakfast? I have thoughts. Should we go for another walk? Definitely have thoughts. Is that squirrel acting suspicious? You bet I have thoughts, and I'm happy to share them. Loudly, if necessary.

The volunteers here say I'm full of personality, and I think that's a compliment. Life is more fun when you have a dog who keeps you entertained. Whether I'm playing, exploring, or simply making my feelings known, I promise there is never a dull moment when I'm around.

I also get along well with other dogs my size. I enjoy having canine friends, but I should probably confess something. I can be a little pushy at times. Okay, maybe more than a little. I tend to think I'd make a pretty great manager, and sometimes I try to boss other dogs around. Because of that, I do best with dogs that are confident enough to stand up for themselves. If another dog politely says, "Nice try, Oliver," we're usually just fine. If they're too timid, I may assume I've been promoted to supervisor.

As a young Airedale, I'll thrive with a family that appreciates an active, intelligent dog. I enjoy exercise, mental stimulation, training, and spending time with my people. If you're looking for a dog who will simply sit quietly in the corner all day, I'm probably not your guy. But if you want a loyal companion who's smart, funny, affectionate, adventurous, and endlessly entertaining, we might be a perfect match.

Most of all, I'm looking for a family that will love me for exactly who I am: a handsome young Airedale Terrier with a huge personality and an even bigger heart.

So what do you say? Are you ready to meet the King of Terriers?

9. Manny

Young (9 months) · Male · Boxer / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

My name is Manny, and I'm hoping that somewhere out there is a person or family looking for a best friend just like me.

Before you meet me, I'd love to tell you a little about my story.

Life didn't start out very easy for me and my brothers. We spent our early puppy months living in a van with our owner. Five of us puppies were crowded together in a small kennel that was dirty, cramped, and far from the kind of place where puppies should grow up. We were underweight, suffering from mange, and had never received proper veterinary care.

At the time, I didn't know life could be different.

Then one day, everything changed.

Read more about Manny

A kind woman from Pets to Vets, a pet transportation company, arrived to transport us to a boarding facility while our owner was hospitalized. When she saw the condition we were in, she knew we needed help. Instead of looking the other way, she became the first person to give us a real chance.

At the boarding facility, a veterinarian treated our mange and gave us our first vaccinations. For the first time, people were helping us heal. A few days later, our owner returned and took our mother home, leaving the rest of us behind.

That could have been the end of our story.

Instead, it became the beginning of a much better one.

The wonderful woman from Pets to Vets opened her heart and her home to all of us. Suddenly, we had room to run and play. We slept on clean bedding, enjoyed regular meals, and discovered what it felt like to simply be puppies. We learned that people could be gentle, caring, and trustworthy.

As time went on, caring foster families stepped up to help us while we searched for forever homes. They quickly noticed something special about my brothers and me. Even though we had spent much of our lives hungry, we never fought over food. We happily eat side by side, share bowls, and switch places during meals without a fuss. Somehow, despite a difficult beginning, we remained friendly, trusting, and full of love.

That's exactly the kind of dog I am today.

I'm a sweet, affectionate young pup who loves attention and enjoys being around people. Whether we're going for a walk, playing in the yard, or relaxing on the couch, I'm happiest when I'm spending time with my humans. I have a playful side, but I also appreciate a good nap and plenty of cuddle time.

There is one unique thing about me that people often notice right away: my tail has a bend in it from an old break. The truth is, nobody knows exactly how it happened. It's possible I was born that way, or it may have occurred sometime during my early life before I was rescued. Whatever the cause, it doesn't slow me down one bit. In fact, my tail wags just fine, and many people think it adds a little extra character to my handsome appearance!

My mange is healing beautifully, and my coat continues to grow back every day. Those lighter patches you may see in my photos are simply areas where my fur is returning. I've received veterinary care, vaccinations, a microchip, and I've already been neutered thanks to the kindness of people who wanted to give me the best possible start on my new life.

Now I'm ready to find what I've been waiting for all along: a family of my own.

I'm not looking for perfection. I don't care if your house is big or small. I don't need expensive toys or fancy treats. What matters most to me is having people who will love me, keep me safe, and make me part of their family forever.

Maybe you're looking for a hiking buddy. Maybe you're searching for a couch companion to watch movies with. Maybe your kids are hoping for a dog they can grow up with. Or maybe you simply want a loyal friend who will greet you with excitement every single time you walk through the door.

If you can offer love, patience, and a permanent place in your heart, I promise I'll do my very best to return that love every day for the rest of my life.

I've already overcome a difficult beginning. Now I'm just hoping for the happy ending every dog deserves.

10. Lucky

Young (1 year) · Female · Anatolian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Lucky – A Sweet Young Girl Looking for Her Forever Home

Hello! My name is Lucky, and even though life hasn't always gone according to plan, I'm hoping my luck is about to change. Maybe that change starts with you!

I'm about 1 year old, and I'm a happy, healthy girl who is already vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. That means I'm ready to pack my bags and move right into my forever home.

Read more about Lucky

Nobody knows exactly how my story began. I was picked up as a stray by animal control in Yuma, and sadly, no one ever came looking for me. While my past remains a mystery, I'm focusing on my future—and I'm hoping it's with a family who will love me, protect me, and give me the happy ending I've been dreaming about.

Right now, I'm staying at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, where everyone has been very kind to me. When I first arrived, I was a little shy and scared. Everything was new, and I wasn't quite sure who I could trust. But with some patience, love, and encouragement, I've started to come out of my shell.

One thing that really helped me was meeting a special dog friend here. You could even call him my boyfriend! He's shown me that people can be kind and that life doesn't have to be scary. We get along wonderfully, and thanks to his confidence and friendship, I've become much more comfortable and relaxed. Now I enjoy attention, making new friends, and exploring the world around me.

The people here think I might be an Anatolian Shepherd mix. If you're not familiar with Anatolian Shepherds, they're known for being intelligent, loyal, protective, and devoted to their families. Originally bred to guard livestock, Anatolians are independent thinkers with a calm and steady nature. They form strong bonds with their people and are known for watching over those they love. While I seem to have many of those wonderful traits, I'm actually a bit smaller than a purebred Anatolian Shepherd, making me a more manageable size for many families.

Like many young dogs, I still have plenty of energy and curiosity. At only a year old, I have my whole life ahead of me. I'd love a family that will continue helping me build confidence, teach me new things, and include me in their daily adventures. Whether we're going for walks, relaxing in the backyard, or spending quiet evenings together, I'll be happiest simply being part of a family.

Because I've had a rough start, I may need a little patience while I adjust to a new environment. But if you give me time, I promise I'll reward you with loyalty, companionship, and lots of love. Every day I become more confident, and everyone here believes I have the potential to become an amazing family dog.

I don't think my forever home needs to be perfect. It just needs to be filled with kindness, understanding, and people who will never give up on me. In return, I'll give you my heart.

Could you be the family I've been waiting for?

I'd love the chance to meet you and show you just how special I am. If you're interested in learning more about me or scheduling a visit, please email my friends at Central Arizona Animal Rescue at:

11. Ziva

Adult (3 years 1 month) · Female · German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)

Hi… my name is Ziva, and I’ve been told it’s finally my turn.

For a long time, my world was pretty small. I lived at a home where, one day, everything changed. My family packed up and left… and they didn’t take me with them. I was alone, still caring for my puppies—with no idea what would happen next. But I did what moms do: I stayed strong for them, kept them safe, and loved them with everything I had.

Read more about Ziva

Thankfully, kind people from animal control found us and made sure we were okay. Not long after, we were brought here to Central Arizona Animal Rescue, where we were given the care, safety, and comfort we needed. I got to finish raising my puppies in a warm, safe place, and one by one, they all found their own loving homes.

And now… it’s my turn to find mine.

I’m about 3 years old, a proud German Shepherd with a loyal heart and a playful spirit. Even after everything I’ve been through, I’m still a very sweet girl who just wants a person—or a family—to call my own.

One of my favorite things in the world is playing ball. If you toss it, I will chase it with everything I’ve got. Over and over again. It’s my happy place! And when the Arizona sun gets a little too hot for all that running? Don’t worry—I’ve figured out the perfect solution. I love to hop into the pool and cool off before I’m ready for another round.

I’m what you might call a “typical shepherd,” which means I like to share my thoughts. I might whine a little or “talk” to you to let you know what I think—whether it’s about playtime, snack time, or just wanting a little attention. I promise it’s all part of my charm.

I’m pretty good on a leash already, but I could use a little refresher on my manners. I’m a smart girl, though, and I really do like to learn—especially if it means spending more time with my person. A little training time together will go a long way in helping me be my very best.

When it comes to other dogs, I can do well, but I would probably be happiest with a male dog about my size who matches my energy. I like companionship, but I also appreciate having the right kind of friend who understands me. As for cats… that’s a bit of an unknown. I do have a strong prey drive—after all, I love chasing my ball—so any introductions would need to be slow and careful. Or I might do best in a home without cats altogether.

The people here have made sure I’m completely ready for my next chapter. I’m spayed, so I’ll never have to raise another litter of puppies again. I’m up to date on all my vaccinations, and I’ve been microchipped—which means no matter what, I’ll always have a way to find my way back home.

And oh, how I want a home.

I’ve spent so much of my life taking care of others, being strong, and waiting patiently. Now, I’m ready to be the one who gets chosen. I’m ready to have someone throw the ball just for me, sit beside me when I lean in for affection, and reassure me that I’ll never be left behind again.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion, a playful best friend, and a dog who will truly bond with you—I could be your girl.

All I need is a chance.

If you’d like to meet me, please email mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment with the wonderful people at Central Arizona Animal Rescue.

I’ll be right here, waiting… hoping the next person who walks in is finally my forever.

With hope and a wagging tail,
Ziva

12. Charlie

Adult (2 years 5 months) · Male · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat)

Hi there… my name is Charlie.

I’m a 2-year-old Heeler mix, and I’ve got a story to tell you. It starts when I was just a tiny puppy in Central Arizona. Back then, everything felt big and new, but I was lucky—I found a home and a family. For a while, life was pretty great. I learned how to be part of a pack, how to love my people, and how to be a good boy.

But sometimes life changes in ways we don’t understand.

Read more about Charlie

My family had to move, and when they did, there wasn’t a safe fence to keep me close anymore. Heelers like me… we’re smart, curious, and we like to explore. Without a proper place to stay safe, they made the hard decision to bring me back so I could find a home that fits me better. I don’t blame them—but starting over has been a little scary.

When I first got back here, I felt unsure about everything. New smells, new people, new sounds… it was a lot. I spent most of my time tucked away in my doghouse where I felt safe. For about a week, I didn’t really want to come out. I just needed time.

Then something amazing happened.

They introduced me to a couple of other dogs—and everything changed. It was like someone turned the lights back on in my world. I remembered how to be a dog again. I followed their lead, learned from them, and slowly started to feel brave again. Now? I absolutely love being around other dogs.

That’s actually really important for you to know about me: I need dog friends. Not just want—we’re talking need. I’m happiest and most confident when I’ve got one or two buddies to show me the ropes. I watch them to figure out what’s safe, who’s friendly, and where the fun is. Boys, girls—it doesn’t matter to me. I just want a couple of companions who will let me tag along and be part of their pack.

With people, I’m still a little shy at first. I might hang back and take my time getting to know you. But if you’re patient with me and let me warm up at my own pace, I promise I’ll try my best. Having other dogs around really helps me trust faster—they help me understand that everything’s okay.

I’ve been told I’m house trained (pretty proud of that), and I’ve already taken care of all the important stuff. I’m up to date on my vaccinations, I’ve been microchipped, and I’m neutered. That means I’m all set and ready to go home with you—no extra stops needed.

What I’m really looking for is a place where I can feel safe, understood, and included. A home with a secure yard would be wonderful, but more than anything, I need a family who understands that I might take a little time to blossom… and that I’ll do my very best once I do.

And of course… I need my dog friends.

If you think you might be the right person (or family) for me, I’d really love the chance to meet you. You can set up an appointment by emailing mike@caaronline.org.

I may start out a little quiet… but with the right pack, I promise I’ve got a whole lot of love waiting to shine.

— Charlie

13. Buddy

Adult (5 years 2 months) · Male · German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)

Hi there… my name is Buddy, and I’ve been waiting patiently to meet you.

Read more about Buddy

I’m a handsome German Shepherd, about 5 years old (at least that’s our best guess), and I’ve already had a bit of a journey in life. I spent a couple of months at the Yuma Humane Society before some very kind humans from Central Arizona Animal Rescue came and brought me somewhere safe and full of hope. No one knows exactly where I came from, but there are little clues—like how I seem comfortable around small dogs—that hint I may have once had a home. Whether I was left behind or surrendered, I’ve decided not to dwell on the past. I’m focused on finding my forever person now.

Let me tell you about me.

I’m everything you would expect from a German Shepherd. My breed has a long and proud history—we were originally developed in Germany as herding dogs, known for our intelligence, loyalty, and strong work ethic. People often say we’re one of the most devoted and versatile breeds in the world, and I like to think I live up to that reputation. I’m smart, eager to please, and deeply bonded to the people I love. Once you’re “my person,” I’m all in—your protector, your shadow, your best friend.

Right now, I share my kennel with a female shepherd, and we get along really well. I’m respectful, playful, and I enjoy companionship. I’m also a big fan of water. Give me a kiddie pool or even a muddy puddle, and I am in heaven! I’ll splash, dig, and cool myself off like it’s my full-time job. Fair warning though… sometimes my water fun turns into a mud spa session. I might come out looking less “regal shepherd” and more “happy swamp creature,” but I promise it’s all part of my charm.

I’m crate trained and do quite well on a leash. I’ll happily go on walks with you, taking in all the sights and smells of the world. I do have one small habit I need help with—I get so excited to see people that I sometimes jump up without being invited. I don’t mean to be rude; I just love attention and haven’t quite learned the proper way to ask for it. The good news? I’m smart, remember? With a little guidance and consistency, I’ll learn quickly what makes you happy, and I’ll do my best to get it right.

What I really want is connection. I’m a dog who thrives on companionship and purpose. German Shepherds aren’t meant to sit alone in a yard—we want to be part of your life, your routine, your family. Whether it’s going for walks, learning new tricks, or just lying by your side after a long day, I want to be there.

Physically, I’m ready to go home today. I’ve been neutered, I’m current on all my vaccinations, and I’ve been microchipped—so I come with everything I need to start my next chapter safely.

What I need now… is you.

If you’ve been looking for a loyal, intelligent, slightly goofy, water-loving companion who will stand by your side and give you his whole heart, I think we might be perfect for each other.

Please come meet me. I promise I’ll be worth the trip—and maybe even the occasional muddy bath.
