1. Walter

Adult (4 years) · Male · Pug / Mixed (short coat)

Forever home wanted, meet Walter! Walter is an amazing pup! His foster raves about him so Walter is not a case where his family did not invest in him. Not sure of the circumstances, but Walter was brought into the shelter on September 11th when his owner was arrested. He sat in the shelter for well over a month under a personal property hold to allow time for his owner to reclaim him.

Fast forward to October 22nd, Walter was made available so when a foster reached out to us willing to foster, we got the freedom ride out of doggie jail Walter was so patiently waiting for.

Read more about Walter

Once in the foster's home, Walter made fast friends with the foster's resident dogs and cat! Walter is crate trained and house trained! Walter is also super friendly with everyone he meets.

Walter is a gem! If you are interested in meeting him, head over to labradorsandfriends.org to fill out an application. Walter is located in Southern California.

2. Calvin

Senior (9 years 2 months) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Forever home wanted, meet handsome, adorable and loving Calvin! Oh, to be a black dog in the shelter means being overlooked, add to that a senior too then you're destined to definitely overstay your welcome! He was originally brought into the shelter on August 10th as a stray and adopted on August 18th. Luckily for Calvin, he was at one of the rural shelters where dogs get some extra time. Calvin was also a volunteer and staff favorite, so he got lots and lots of loving.

Read more about Calvin

Due to housing issues, Calvin was surrendered to the shelter by his owner back on September 12th. The owner was kind enough to leave very helpful information about Calvin that helps us with placement. Calvin is good with all people. He lived with teenagers, small children and babies. He lived with both male and female dogs and cats! Sadly, he mostly lived outside and can be easily scared with loud noises like fireworks and thunder. Calvin seems to walk well on the leash and rides nicely in the car.

Calvin had a tumor like growth on his face that the shelter had removed. They believe it was a lipoma and has recovered nicely. We were able to get Calvin out of the shelter when it was getting close to his time to run out because a foster stepped up for him. He is being fostered with other dogs, so we'll get to know more about him. He just arrived to us on October 22nd, so as we learn more, we'll update his bio.

If you are interested in meeting Calvin, please fill out and application at labradrorsandfriends.org. Calvin is located in Southern California.

3. Canela

Puppy (3 months 4 days) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Canela!

Canela found herself at the San Jacinto shelter. You might think a cute puppy would be adopted quickly, but Canela has a bony lump on her head that the vet believes may be a birth defect. Two of her siblings, who were adopted separately, also had smaller lumps on their heads.

Despite being just a puppy, Canela was red-listed and at risk. Thankfully, a foster stepped up, and we were able to get this sweet girl to safety!

Read more about Canela

Canela is a scared little girl who is still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place. Loud noises and fast movements frighten her, so she’ll need a patient family willing to help her socialize, build confidence, and learn to trust.

She’s currently fostered with three large dogs and is doing well with them! She loves playing outside with her canine foster siblings and follows her foster mom around the yard. When she’s not outside enjoying some playtime, you’ll find her searching for a cozy spot inside the house to curl up and relax.

Her foster siblings are also helping show her that receiving love and affection from her foster mom is a wonderful thing!

We believe Canela would do best in a home with another confident dog who can help continue to show her that the world isn’t so scary.

Canela needs someone willing to give her the time, patience, and encouragement she needs to blossom. Could that be you?

If you’re interested in giving Canela the loving home she deserves, please submit an adoption application at www.labradorsandfriends.org.

Canela is located in Southern California.

4. Cr

Young (3 months 14 days) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Forever home wanted, meet Finn!! Finn and his four siblings are lucky puppies! There were a total of 6 that entered the shelter on 10/10 as owner surrenders. Normally when we see gorgeous puppies like this come into the shelter we tend to look away. We just assume the demand would be so great, they'd be adopted by members of the public. A volunteer happened to take a peek at them on the county website 4 days after they arrived. Their status changed from the morning to the late afternoon, so she inquired. Overnight, things changed dramatically. One of their siblings passed away and a test showed he was positive for parvo.

Read more about Cr

The shelter removed them from the website and sent out a 24 hour notice for a rescue to take them by 5 PM on 10/14 or they would be euthanized for being exposed to Parvo. We had them tested and they were all negative for the virus! We still opted to give them antibodies as a precaution.

Finn and his siblings developed an upper respiratory infection shortly after arriving at the fosters, but they were treated and all resolved! Finn was a little slower at fully recovering so we put him on a different antibiotic for 10 days to clear it out.

Two of Finn's siblings have already found homes and the rest are all thriving, With everything they've experienced in their young lives, they are such resilient, happy and playful puppies! Their foster mom says they are some of the best puppies she's ever cared for. They are just about potty trained and nailing pee pad training! They sleep through the night like little angels and are patient when their foster mom goes in their room in the morning to let them outside and to fix their breakfast! To think they were hours away from losing their lives is mind boggling!

This litter will be larger dogs so know that going in. At their age of roughly 3.5 months, they weigh upwards of 25+ pounds.

If you are interested in meeting Finn or any of his siblings, please head over to labradorsandfriends.org to fill out an application. Finn and his siblings are located in Southern California.

8. May

Young (5 months 28 days) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat)

Foster or forever home wanted, meet May! May is yet another sweet, young pup that found herself at the Hesperia Shelter Back on September 17th. She happened to show up with another young pup named Love, we are unclear if they are related.

Neither pup had microchips, collars or tags to identify them in order to find their owners. Hesperia is a high intake, low foot traffic shelter so May's chances of making it out were slim to none. When the shelter reached out to us to ask us to help both Love and May, of course we said yes!

Love and May both had to go to boarding until we can find a foster or forever home for them. What we know about Love so far is that see is so sweet and her name fits her perfectly! We hope to learn more about Love and will update her bio when we do.

10. Hercules

Young (1 year 1 month) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Foster or forever home wanted, meet Hercules!!

If dogs could talk, we're sure Hercules would have a story to tell. Luckily for him, a lady was out late at night on October 4th doing her daily ritual of TNR (trap and release) of cats in Los Angeles. She happened upon Hercules tied to a fence on such a short lead, he was unable to move or sit down. Being an animal loving person, she reached out to friends who happen to be involved in dog rescue, and they reached out to us to see if we could take him on and try to find him a forever home.

Read more about Hercules

As soon as we saw this handsome boy and heard his story, we put a plan in place to bring him to safety. Hercules was neutered, microchipped and vaccinated prior to heading to boarding. This young man is estimated to be a little over a year old and very friendly with everyone he meets.

Being in boarding doesn't give us a lot of insight into a dog's temperament or training so we are still getting to know him. All the people that have handled him to date state he is very sweet and dog friendly.

Meet Nick Wilde!

Small in size, big in personality, and full of puppy love! Nick Wilde is a 7.5-month-old, 26-pound Lab mix with a little Pug, Chihuahua, or another small breed mixed in. Your guess is as good as ours!

Nick is as sweet and cuddly as they come. He’s friendly with dogs, kids, people, and even tortoises! He gets along wonderfully with his foster canine siblings and respects their space. He already has some great manners, too. He keeps all four paws on the ground, doesn’t jump on people, and stays off the furniture.

This little guy loves his toys and is perfectly happy entertaining himself when no one is available to play. He’s making good progress with potty training and crate training, while his leash skills could use a little more practice. Jesse is a one-year-old, 77-pound Lab mix who spent an unbelievable 473 days waiting in two loud, overwhelming shelters. As the months passed, the stress took its toll, leaving him scared and shut down.

28. Heidi

Adult (1 year 1 month) · Female · Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Heidi!

Our best guess is that this gorgeous girl is a Shepherd/Husky mix with a touch of another medium-sized breed mixed in — and whatever the recipe, it sure made one amazing dog!

Heidi is a 1-year-old sweetheart who is affectionate, intelligent, potty trained, and eager to bond with her people. She is dog-friendly with dogs of all sizes and absolutely wonderful with kids. She bonds quickly and simply wants to be close to the people she loves.

Read more about Heidi

This girl is as athletic as they come and can be a bit of an escape artist. Heidi can easily scale a 5-foot fence, so her forever family will need secure, tall fencing and a commitment to keeping this clever girl safely contained.

Heidi does have some separation anxiety, so she will do best in a home where someone is around most of the time. Another playful, confident canine companion would be a wonderful bonus, but it isn’t a deal breaker.

Her perfect family will understand that Heidi may need a little time to decompress, feel safe, and settle into her new surroundings. But once she knows she is loved and can trust her people, she gives that love right back tenfold.

Heidi is the kind of dog who wants to be your best friend, your adventure buddy, and your constant companion. She has so much love to give and is ready to find the family she can finally call her own.

29. Emma

Adult (2 years 2 months) · Female · Cattle Dog / Mixed (medium coat)

Forever Home Wanted: Meet Emma!

Emma’s story is one of survival, strength, and an incredible love for her puppies.

Emma was found as a stray in a field after being attacked by another dog. By the time she arrived at the emergency hospital, she had suffered significant injuries and severe blood loss. The trauma to one of her eyes was so extensive that her eye had to be surgically removed.

Just two days after arriving and undergoing surgery, Emma delivered eight beautiful babies — all healthy, thriving, and ready to start the next chapter of their lives.

Read more about Emma

But Emma still had so much to overcome. She was severely emaciated, dehydrated, severely anemic, covered in ticks, mud, and dried blood. She remained hospitalized for several days while the incredible veterinary staff worked to stabilize her and keep both Emma and her newborn puppies healthy. They did an amazing job caring for this brave mama.

Today, Emma’s puppies are turning 8 weeks old. Soon, each of her babies will be posted for adoption and heading off to their own forever families.

Now it’s Emma’s turn.

After everything she has endured, we would love nothing more than to see this amazing mama find a loving forever home of her own.

Emma has already shown us that she has a playful, loving side. She does well with small dogs, lights up when she sees them, and loves to play with them.

She lost an eye, but she never lost her spirit.

Emma deserves a family who will show her that her hardest days are behind her and that the rest of her life can be filled with love, comfort, and happiness.

30. Tango

Adult (2 years 6 months) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Tango — Your New Best Friend!

Looking for a dog who is affectionate, easygoing, friendly, and just plain wonderful? Meet Tango!

Tango is an absolute love bug and professional cuddle buddy, but she also understands personal space — making her the perfect balance of affectionate and independent. She loves everyone she meets: men, women, and kids alike!

Read more about Tango

She’s dog friendly, cat safe, and chicken safe. She’d love to be friends with the cat, but when the cat says “not today,” Tango politely respects the boundary. Chickens? She notices them and will co-mingle, but surprisingly has no interest in playing with them, despite her otherwise very lab-like personality.

Tango is also incredibly easy to live with and eager to please. She takes verbal correction beautifully, seems to intuitively understand what you want, and is food motivated — making her a fantastic candidate for more advanced training.

She walks nicely on leash, loves car rides, and is equally happy going on an adventure or napping peacefully at your feet. Despite being incredibly loving of her humans, she has zero separation anxiety.

Tango rarely barks, she only speaks up when there’s something worth announcing — a knock at the door or an unfamiliar person in the yard. She’ll love your guests, but she’ll also let you know when someone unexpected arrives!

Her one tiny vice? She occasionally enjoys teaching her foster siblings to keep their school supplies put away — or she’ll nibble a rogue pencil left within reach.

Tango is the whole package: loving, confident, trainable, social, adaptable, and wonderfully easygoing. She doesn’t need a perfect home as she adapts anywhere — she’s pretty irresistible and can’t wait to find her forever home.

If you’re looking for a dog who can be your adventure buddy, your couch companion, your family dog, and your little shadow when you want one — Tango is ready to meet you.

31. Lainey

Adult (4 years 2 months) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Forever home wanted, meet Lainey. Lainey's story hit all of us hard here at the rescue. We'll never know what happened to her to cause her to be completely shut down and frozen in fear at the shelter. One of our volunteers happened to see her in her kennel at the shelter, she stayed back in the corner and would not respond to attempts to get her to come forward.

Read more about Lainey

Lainey was brought into the shelter by someone who claims she and several other dogs were obviously abandoned on a rather large multi acre property. The person that brought them in said she "cared" for them the best she could for a few months. Because the woman said to have "cared" for her for more than two weeks, she was considered an owner surrender even though she was originally abandoned and left to fend for herself.

What happened next and the reason Lainey was brought into the shelter was, she was seen digging into a chicken coop and had killed some chickens. It is unclear if other dogs were involved, we only received the information on Lainey. Poor Lainey, abandoned and starving, she saw the chickens as food and it was all about survival.

Upon intake, Lainey was noted as being scared but showed no aggression. Sadly, it was also noted that she was pregnant. Due to the current overpopulation problems at the shelters, they spay aborted her litter. Add that experience to an already shut down dog and now we have a very depressed dog.

The shelter gave Lainey three days to recover from her surgery before they did a behavior assessment. Consistent with the notes on her intake exam, Lainey showed no aggression toward the handlers or other dogs in the play group. Rather, Lainey chose to avoid contact and interaction.

Lainey could sure use a paw up to help her navigate this world that hasn't been so kind to her. She will not be an "add water and stir" kind of dog, but rather one that needs someone who will be patient and allow her to come around a little at a time, peeling back the layers of the onion.

Looking for a fun-loving, affectionate companion with a big personality? Oliver is your guy!

At just 2 years old, this playful boy is full of puppy spirit. He loves tossing toys in the air, showing off his zoomies, and splashing through puddles. He’s always finding ways to entertain himself and make you laugh!

When playtime is over, Oliver is happy to curl up beside you for snuggles. He’s potty trained, rides great in the car, and loves tagging along on adventures to parks, stores, and coffee shops.

Read more about Oliver

Oliver LOVES people! He’s a social butterfly who adores attention from adults and kids alike. He’s especially sweet and gentle with children, and the feeling is mutual!
