3. Puppy Otis

Young · Male · Labrador Retriever (short coat) · 48 mi from Clarksville

If you are looking for a wonderful Lab to join your family then Otis is the ONE!!! This 9 month old 32 pound Lab boy is just like a sponge for love and he would be the best friend to all!!! Otis is a breath of fresh air when you meet him. His enthusiasm for life and his true desire to be friends with all the world is so joyful to watch. He has lived a rather desperate and limited life in the early months with a person who struggled on lots of levels. Despite the chaos of the early months, Otis is a fully engaged and happy dog. A teenager is what we would classify him in regards to human years and yet he is a quick study and certainly ready to graduate to a better home life and people who can guide him to become the smart and well mannered dog he has shown that he is so far.

Read more about Puppy Otis

He is pretty good on a leash considering no real practice till now and he is housebroken and crate training beautifully. He is surrounded by young children 6 years and above and loves every minute of their attention and hugs. We see this boy being a great running mate, walking partner, trail explorer and sideline soccer cheerleader for his family participants. Otis is a Lab and looks mostly all of that with nothing else. At his current weight of 31 pounds, he is destined to become a 50 pound handsome adult that will make his way in to your heart forever. Otis is a standout and a dog for all seasons and ages in a family's life. Thank you for considering this special boy. Contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested. 13. Puppy Winnie

Puppy · Female · Hound / Border Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 48 mi from Clarksville

Some puppies are simply easy to picture in your life, and beautiful Winnie is one of those special girl puppies. Can you picture a happy little face following you into the backyard, chasing a ball, exploring every corner, and then coming back to you because being near her people is really the best part? That is Winnie. She is playful without being wild, curious without being reckless, and affectionate without needing to be glued to you every second. She is a puppy who wants to be involved in life with her family.Winnie was born July 11 as one of twelve puppies to a beautiful red, scruffy Border Terrier mix mama.

Read more about Puppy Winnie

She has been raised in a wonderful foster environment surrounded by children, other dogs, and adults who have handled, cuddled, and socialized her from the beginning. Those early experiences have helped Winnie become a confident, loving puppy who is ready to continue learning with her forever family. We think Winnie will be an especially wonderful fit for a family who enjoys being together and wants a dog who can grow up alongside them. She would love a fenced yard for those backyard adventures, a family willing to play fetch and teach her new things, and people who will appreciate her sweet, thoughtful nature. She is smart and eager to learn, so a family who enjoys training and watching a puppy discover her talents will have a lot of fun with her.Winnie is expected to grow into a beautiful 45–50 pound girl with a short coat. She is still very much a puppy, which means she is also in the “everything goes in my mouth” phase. Fingers are currently competing with chew toys for her attention, so we feel older children, 10+, would be the best fit. She will need patient adults who can give her consistent guidance and redirect that puppy enthusiasm toward appropriate toys. But underneath those puppy teeth is a girl with an enormous capacity to love. Winnie is thoughtful, affectionate, playful, and wonderfully curious. She is going to be the kind of dog who learns your routines, knows when it is time to play and when it is time to settle down, and eventually becomes the companion who seems to have always belonged there. If you are looking for a puppy who can be your backyard playmate, your adventure buddy, your student, your shadow, and eventually your best friend, Winnie may be exactly the girl you have been waiting for.Contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com

16. Hobo

Senior · Male · Labrador Retriever · 46 mi from Clarksville

HOBO HAS LOST HIS PERSON, HIS HOME, AND EVEN HIS SECOND CHANCE… BUT HE IS STILL WAITING HOBO IS PICK YOUR OWN ADOPTION FEE For nearly 14 years, Hobo belonged to Deborah. She was his person, his home, and the center of the only life he had ever known. Hobo never had to wonder where he belonged because, as long as he had Deborah, he was home. Then Deborah had to enter a nursing home, and Hobo’s whole world changed. He could not understand why his person was gone or why the life he had always known had suddenly disappeared. Deborah later passed away, and one of the things she wanted most was for her ole boy to be safe, loved, and given a home for the rest of his life.Hobo came to us carrying all those years of love and all that confusion.

Read more about Hobo

He was an old dog who had lost the one person he trusted most, and there was no way for us to explain to him that she was not coming back. Not long after coming into our care, Hobo slipped away from a transporter at an out-of-county veterinarian’s office. He was missing for more than a month. We searched, worried, and honestly feared we had lost Deborah’s ole boy forever. Somehow, Hobo survived, and when he was finally found, we were just grateful to have him back where we knew he was safe. The shelter slowly became the closest thing Hobo had to another home. He learned our voices, our routines, and which people he could trust. He grew attached to the volunteers who cared for him, and we grew even more attached to him. Then the day finally came when Hobo was adopted. We watched him leave believing that Deborah’s wish had finally come true. After everything he had survived, we thought Hobo was finally going to spend his remaining years in a real home. But only a few days later, Hobo came back. There had been an incident involving a child. Hobo bit, although he did not break the skin. Hobo is an elderly dog with arthritis and pain in his hips and back legs, and we believe that pain played a part in what happened. He was returned scared, confused, and so overwhelmed that he soiled himself in the vehicle. When he arrived back at the shelter that night, he hid beneath a tree. The volunteer with him did not have the heart to force him back into a kennel. Since the temperature was cool, Hobo was given the play yard to himself for the night. Once again, the shelter became his safe place. That may be the saddest part of Hobo’s story. He truly loves the shelter because it is where the people he trusts are, but a shelter was never supposed to become this ole boy’s forever home. After everything that happened when Hobo went missing, we wanted to give him every extra layer of protection we could. Hobo is now microchipped, and a Fi GPS tracker will be included with his adoption. Wherever Hobo’s next chapter takes him, we want to make sure he can always be found and brought safely home. What Hobo needs now is not complicated. He needs a quiet, adult home with a securely fenced yard, no young children, and no other dogs. He needs someone who understands that senior dogs can hurt, that boundaries matter, and that loving an old dog sometimes means giving him the time and space he needs.Hobo previously lived around cats with Deborah, so cats may be possible with careful introductions. He will also need his daily medication to help keep him comfortable.Hobo has already lost his person. He has already lost his home. He has already been lost on his own, found again, adopted, and returned. Please do not let the shelter be the final chapter of his story.Somewhere, there has to be someone willing to give Deborah’s ole boy the peaceful ending she wanted for him. A soft bed, a fenced yard, a quiet house, and one last person to call his own. Please share Hobo’s story. His person may never see our original post, but they might see the one you share. For adoption inquiries about Hobo, email:mason.staggs@humphreyshumane.org For after-hours inquiries, call or text:615-495-4811 Hobo’s Petfinder Listing:https://humphreyshumane.org/hobo View

25. Balsam Fir

Young (5 months 23 days) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat) · 41 mi from Clarksville

Meet Balsam! This sweet boy is a happy, playful puppy with lots of love to give! He is incredibly affectionate, loves meeting new people, and enjoys being around his humans. He also gets along great with other dogs and cats.
Balsam is an energetic pup who loves to play but is happy to settle down for a nap when he’s tired. He’s doing great with leash walking and is learning basic commands like sit. His crate training is coming along nicely, and he’s becoming much more comfortable spending time in his crate.
House training is also going well! Balsam is making great progress and has even started letting his foster know when he needs to go outside. Like any puppy, he’s still learning his manners and will need a family committed to continuing his training.
Balsam is a loving, friendly boy who will make a wonderful addition to a family ready for all the fun that comes with raising a puppy!

Bringing a dog home to your cat

Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.

Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.

Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.
