1. Joe

Young (8 months) · Male · Cane Corso Mastiff / Mixed (short coat) · 99 mi from Chattanooga

Joe just showed up at a family's home and stayed. After attempts to find the owner failed, it was clear he was dumped.

He’s very sweet and easy going but still a very strong dominant type dog. We would prefer someone with experience with this breed but will consider if they’ll sign up for training. Amazingly smart and dedicated dogs as long as well socialized and time is spent with them.

We're saying only older, sturdy kids because he is so large and strong.

Age: 9 months

Weight: 68 lbs

Temperament: Gets along with cats, dogs and older sturdy kids

Training: needs basic training

Vetting: neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm negative

Blondie is a stunning 9-year-old German Shepherd and Malinois mix weighing 58 lbs. 9. Lady

Adult · Female · Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 83 mi from Chattanooga

See Courtesy Posting Disclaimer *
Hi, my name is Lady. I am a 3-year-old black Lab. I am in foster in Knoxville, Tennessee, from Texoma Dog Ranch Rescue in Texas. I was stressed out at the Dog Ranch being in kennels all the time and around a lot of loud dogs, so I was lucky enough to find a foster. I am a really sweet and smart girl.
I weigh 54 pounds, and I have been spayed and fully vetted, and even have a health certificate. I will come with 3 months heartworm preventative and 3 months flea and tick control. I know some basic commands, and I am house-trained and crate-trained. And I do not get on the furniture.

Read more about Lady

I do have a little bit of a fear of men but it doesn't take me long with some understanding to start to feel comfortable. I have been in my foster home for a little over a week, and I have really started coming out of my shell... oh, and by the way, I am dog-friendly, as my foster has two little dachshunds.
I would do well in just about any home, but preferably without younger kids, as I am quite large and might accidentally bump into one. I would absolutely love a home that was active and could take me on lots of walks and hikes, as I do really good on a leash and do not pull. I really hope I can find my forever home! If somebody will just give me a chance and let me get comfortable and get over my fears, I will do great. I promise I am a kind, gentle soul and will love you forever.
I would also love a fenced in yard to play in and run Zoomies. My foster has a privacy fence which is perfect, but I think as long as your fence is 5 feet or higher I will do fine and not try to escape, I promise. Is there anyone out there that will give me a chance? I was rescued from a shelter a day before I was supposed to be euthanized due to space, so I know I have a purpose for someone out there. For more information on me please email texomadogcoordinator@gmail.com. Also applications can be found at www.texomadogrescue.com

I have moderate tartar on my teeth, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future. I have a chronic cough which has been thoroughly checked out by the vets and does not seem to be of concern, other than some medication. Just ask how this is going.

I'm a wonderful fellow looking for a family that will treasure me and with another friendly dog to hang out with. My adoption fee is $100.00, and I'm located in Kennesaw, Ga.

20. Doug

Young (1 year 9 months) · Male · Great Pyrenees / Golden Retriever / Mixed (long coat) · 82 mi from Chattanooga

Meet Doug!
Doug is a handsome 1-year-old Great Pyrenees/Golden mix with a gentle heart and a sensitive soul. Although his previous home’s DNA test labeled him as 100% Great Pyrenees, we know his mother wasn’t a Pyr—so he’s truly a unique mix!

Doug has had obedience training, but he’s still quite skittish and needs a patient, calm adopter who can help him continue building confidence. Because of his timid nature, he is not suited for homes with children under 10. He is housebroken.

He does well with other dogs and cats and would thrive in a quiet household where he can feel safe and settle in at his own pace.

21. Peachtree Connie

Young (9 months) · Female · Shepherd / Mixed · 87 mi from Chattanooga

Meet Peachtree Connie - an 8 month old, German Shepherd mix with a sweet heart, a bright mind, and a whole lot of love to give.

When she’s fully grown, Connie will be a sturdy, athletic companion at about 50–60 pounds: big enough to keep up on adventures, compact enough to snuggle close. She’s crate trained and leash trained, and she’s working hard on potty training like any good puppy her age.

Read more about Peachtree Connie

She’s very smart and picks things up quickly, especially when there’s a game of fetch involved. Toss a toy and watch her light up! She loves to play and loves even more to be with her people. Connie is a little shy at first and takes some time to warm up, but once she trusts you, she’s all in. She’s good with older children, big dogs, and cats, and she’s looking for an active home that will give her exercise, patience, and plenty of togetherness.

Give this girl a little space to bloom and she’ll reward you with loyalty, playfulness, and a devoted companion who just wants to be part of the family. If you’re ready for walks, fetch sessions, and a smart girl who’ll grow into her confidence right beside you, Peachtree Connie might be your girl.

23. Oscar

Adult (5 years 4 months) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Rhodesian Ridgeback / Mixed (short coat) · 82 mi from Chattanooga

Meet Oscar!
Oscar is a gorgeous 5-year-old Lab/Rhodesian mix with a zest for life and a heart full of love. He originally came to the rescue as a young puppy with his siblings, was adopted, and later returned when life circumstances changed—through it all, Oscar has remained the sweetest boy.

Read more about Oscar

This big, handsome guy weighs about 80 lbs and has a unique look to his lower jaw. Oscar returned to the rescue with osteomyelitis in his mandible, possibly from an old injury. This condition is an infection of the bone and was successfully treated with antibiotics. While the infection is gone, it left behind some extra bone growth on his lower jaw. This does not cause him pain, and he does not need medication or ongoing treatment—it’s simply a cosmetic quirk that makes him extra special.

Oscar is thriving now and is such a joy to work with. He is good with female dogs, cats, and kids, and best of all—he is HOUSEBROKEN! He has been neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, and heartworm tested negative.

His adoption fee is $250.

26. Gunner

Young (8 months) · Male · Mountain Cur / Mixed (short coat) · 77 mi from Chattanooga

This dog is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $200 if picked up in TN, $275 plus transport fee for out-of-state adoptions.

Read more about Gunner

Gunner believes with his whole heart that the best place in the world is wherever you happen to be. This gentle Mountain Cur mix is about 7.5 months old and weighs 45 pounds, carrying a low-medium energy level with a big, loving heart. He lives for being petted and loved on, and honestly, that would be his whole world if he could get it. He enjoys playing with his foster puppy sibling and lazily chasing a ball, and he is still a little uncoordinated during fetch, which only adds to his charm. He is quiet by nature and sleeps soundly through the night. Gunner is fully housetrained with no accidents in his foster home, and he did well riding in a crate in the car. He is learning to sit for meals and is working on putting his feet up on a retaining wall to get pets instead of jumping, since his enthusiasm for affection sometimes gets the better of him. He is also making great progress on leash walking, and is now confidently walking around the fields near his foster home.

He does well with other dogs and has shown curiosity toward the goats, though his intentions there are still a bit of a mystery. Gunner is not a good fit around chickens as he has shown stalking behavior toward them. Gunner would thrive in a home where he gets to be involved in everyday family life and stay close to his people, he truly is a velcro dog at heart. A fenced yard is strongly recommended to keep him safe and happy. If you are looking for an affectionate, gentle dog who wants nothing more than to be by your side, Gunner would love to meet you. Adopting a large dog in Chattanooga

Large dogs need room to stretch out and plenty of exercise: at least one good walk a day, and a secure yard is a bonus. Check your lease too, as some landlords limit the size or breed of dog.

Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
